Should have read the reviews before coming here on my lunch break. I tried to call in the order but no one ever answered the phone. I went through the drive thru and only had 1 car in front of me. It took a while for the car to move but I found out when I pulled up that it was Steak n Shake that asked to us to hold on. I had to repeat my order 3 times for the guy to get it right and he was very rude over the intercom. It took me 21 minutes to get my food- 27 minutes from pulling into the parking lot and leaving. Almost 30 minutes for a fast food drivethru is absolutely absurd. The food was cold and overcooked, the fries were cold and the onion rings were greasy and soft. MANANAGEMENT- you need to listen to your customers, instill better training for your staff, and work on your reputation management. We will not be back. read more

Love the food when they don't mess up on it. I used to go there often until 9 out of 10 times my order was screwed up in some way. Now if they screw up I have to go back right then to get my food. They won't put names in their book or anything to come at a later time and I wonder why that is.... Could it be that probably everyone in this area has complained about their order at least once. I guess they think someone is trying to get something for free. I'm home for the night and really don't feel like having to drive all the way back over there for them to mess up another order. Yes, I've been back before to replace a meal they messed up on and that one was screwed up too. Good food, but they seriously need to pay attention to what the customer is ordering. My family when visiting me always wanted to go to Steak and Shake. We all went there and it was terrible. Waited over an hour to get our food and then it was the wrong order. Food was cold. Waitress just put the silverware and napkins down on one end of the table (table of 7). Didn't do any set ups/ Said they were out of hotdog rolls (as one of my son-in-laws ordered a hotdog. He said ok just bring me a hotdog with no roll. Came back later and said they had no hotdogs they were all frozen. It was a nightmare. We got up and left. I don't know what has happened to this place but I have been going there over 20 years and always enjoyed our meal there. Please get some help and restore it to what we all loved!! read more

Most of the reviews on here make this place seem terrible. This place ROCKS. It is a tradition that my friends and I come here after the beach. The prices are super affordable, the food is amazing, and every time we go the service was on point(shout out to my girl Gracie because she's killing it). If you get the paper make sure you check for coupons because even though the prices are already low, they have amazing deals. ALSO how can anyone beat half price happy hour?!?!? The food was really good, but the service left something to be desired. Several of our items were missing and the waitress, although sweet, acted clueless. Although the food was good, I didn't feel the upgrade to Cajun fries (only 30 cents) wasn't worth it. It was just season salt sprinkled on top of regular fries. read more

There are some moments that truly make you question why you make such terrible decisions in life, your existence on this planet, and leave you scarred permanently. My experience at Steak 'n Shake over the past hour was certainly one of them. Bradenton, FL's Steak 'n Shake crawled out of the 8th circle of hell. Calling the service abysmal is a stark under-exaggeration of the hell that I and two friends just endured. How you ask is this possible? Let's start with the most surly, energy-sucking, and nasty servers that have the combined goal of creating the worst customer experience possible. The food order board revealed a 33 min average wait time per customer in a FAST FOOD restaurant. All of our food was served cold and with interesting interpretations of our actual order- don't quote me on this but I'm fairly sure only ketchup on a hot dog doesn't involve large quantities of only mustard and other mystery condiments. If you have a bloodhound, please spare the poor animal of being brought within a 5 mile radius of the pungent odor that infests this disgusting establishment. The bathroom (and/or kitchen) would make a water reclamation plant worker turn green in the face. I personally witnessed more than 3 tables of customers storm out of the restaurant flatly pissed off at the unbearable conditions (lack of food, being swore at by a 65 year old server raised by the Grinch that stole Christmas, a manager that doesn't wear a hair net when preparing food for customers, an elderly man waiting to receive change for 30 mins as the cash register ran out of money, to name a few). In a blind taste test it would be hard to determine if you were eating freeze dried liquid dog food or actual food suitable for human consumption- and maybe that comment is biased due to the fact that I should consider the impact of thermodynamics and cryogenics on a meal left on a filthy counter merely feet from us as servers passed by carelessly for over 45 mins. This is the sort of establishment that siphons the life out of you and inspires a hatred for all things related to Steak 'n Shake. I suppose one benefit of our experience was that it was so poor that it will make every other restaurant give the impression of an all expenses paid stay at the Ritz Carlton. I don't mean to make life decisions for you, but if you are committed to pursuing food and service-induced clinical depression then this is the restaurant for you! I apologize for having to cut my praises and enthusiasm for this congealing hell hole short, but I have to seek refuge at the nearest public restroom- my thoughts are with the brave toilets that serve the rest stops of 95N in northern Florida and Southern Georgia over these next tense hours. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and please dear Christ participate in a movement to put this restaurant out of its own misery. read more

I do enjoy going to Steak n Shake now and then. This was the first time I've been to this location and was dissapointed. It took me 37 minutes from pulling into the drive thru until I got my food, and there were only three cars in front of me. I ordered a combo that was priced at $5.99 and my total came to $7.83 which I knew wasn't right. I asked at the window why it was that and got a response that was "That's what your order adds up to." Like, oh thanks, didn't realize that. Since it was only a couple bucks more and it had already taken so long that I didn't bother any further. After looking at my receipt I see that the worker had rang it up as a sandwich, separate fries, and separate drink which made that $7.83, instead of as the combo. Not too big of a deal, just annoying. My fries were about half filled as well. read more

My family and I have made "multiple" formal complaints to the Steak n Shake Headquarters, with hopes that issues would permanently be corrected at this Bradenton location. The seating is in aged, dirty, and broken down condition. The floors through the entire restaurant are crusty and filthy, including the restrooms. Restrooms are dated and in disrepair, and often out of supplies. I witnessed for the second time today, the same employee,( who they assured me was spoken to before) wearing disposable gloves, take in and handle cash payments, and when finished touching the register and filthy money wearing the gloves, turn immediately around resuming cooking, "never" changing his gloves, handling raw food. I "never" lost sight of him doing this, so he cannot say he changed his gloves. I spoke to the restaurant manager before I paid my check and left. The employee taking in money from the customers should "never" be cooking. "EVER"! Can't this restaurant afford cooks? They should, it's a gold mine....always busy, especially peak times. Bradenton residents settle for this filthy, poorly run location because the nearest other Steak n Shake is 20 miles to Sarasota. The Manatee County Health Dept. could literally clean house there. read more

I had to put a star, but if there was an option not to I most definitely wouldn't have. Service was slow as molasses granted there were new servers and it was a busy Friday afternoon. My family and I were seated right next to the service window and we noticed that there was food sitting in the window for 10 minutes plus with no one running it out to tables...come to find out that it was our food sitting there getting cold. My husband and I used to go here every 1st of the month like clockwork! This morning we walked in and asked to be seated, I politely asked for a table, she didn't hear me because she was to busy talking to the other table. She finally heard me and said oh I can't seat you there because that area is closed. I said im sorry but we really need a table ( i broke down and said we are to freaking FAT to sit in a booth) I left crying. Both my husband and I are heavy and (are on a diet so were trying to change) but still cant comfortably sit in a booth. The woman threw my attitude so I said you just lost service and I walked out in tears, absolutely embarrassed! Like I said we go there once every month and never had this problem we always was able to be sat at a table without our explanation as to why we needed one. My husband went in to talk to the manager and the woman came up and started giving my husband AND her manager attitude. The manager was great and handled it well, asking her to take a break, he also gave us free meal tickets, and offered to buy us dinner, but I was to humiliated to go back in there to eat! While we were at Denny's this couple over heard us talking about our experience there and said they will NEVER go back to steak and shake because that was plain rude what they did to us. They also said they will tell all there friends about the treatment we got and assured us that as soon as their friends heard it they too would not want to dine in this "fine establishment" I told them I did not want "steak and shake" to loose service persay, I just want the woman to learn how to treat her guests! read more

This place is going downhill. I am/ was a regular and have seen the service/ accuracy getting worse by the day. I hate to say this because I have always loved Steak 'n Shake, but I am tired of always having to "give it a chance." One day it takes 5 minutes to get my food, then the next I wait 30 minutes to even get a drink. Today it took 35 minutes to get a burger, fries, and my chili. When the food finally came out, the fries were stale and cold, the burger was incorrectly made, but the chili, which should have came out long before, was piping hot, so I got to eat it while my food was cooked again! Unreal, something is wrong with this restaurant. Either management, the quality of servers, and/ or the cooks. Something needs to be done, or this place is going to close soon! Wouldn't be surprised to see it close down after season is over. :( read more

This was hands down the worst fast food experience we have ever had! Staff is clearly incompetent to provide a good experience. To start, the lady taking our drive through order could not get the order right. Then we had to pull ahead and wait about 15 minutes or more to get our order!!! This is NOT fast food. Finally, we see a waitress, carrying our bag of food around inside the restaurant as she is clearing tables and throwing out trash. When she finally approaches our car, she does a strange and awkward dance and complains to us about something stuck in her shirt. She hands us our bag of food that appears to be streaked with mustard and food particles from the table she had been clearing. We could not even set the bag down in the truck, it was so dirty. The fries were spilled all over the bag and our sandwiches had mustard and ketchup spilled all over the wrappers! The food was also subpar. I have always gone here growing up but haven't gone in awhile. Recently I started coming back for the birthday cake milkshake that I fell in love with. 5 stars for the milkshake but 0 for the people working there and the drive thru. I went there a couple nights ago. Waited 10 mins to get up to order . They had at least 3 employees outside talking to random people not doing their job. Then I finally got to order, came around to the window and the guy told me to pull to the side and he will bring it out. I do so and I waited there for 30 mins. While waiting I saw 2 more employees outside on their phones. Went inside to ask where our food was and came back and 15 mins later our food came. Now the food was fine but as I was drinking my milkshake I bit on something hard... IT WAS A PIECE OF PLASTIC!!! A piece of plastic in my milkshake. 03/26/17 2:30pm. I took my family and snow birds friends to Steak 'n Shake at 106 Cortez Rd E Bradenton, FL 34203 and it was TERRIBLE! The service was so bad and their employees were loud and belligerent. We were the 3rd family in line with many people behind us and all of us left the restaurant. The place was FILTHY and smell like rotten mop water and bleach. I have a Steak 'n Shake' TAKHOMACARD with money still on it and I'm going to cut it up plus once I find their corporate office they will be hearing from me. Normally I'm a very positive person and not one to complain but I hope that particular Steak 'n Shake go out of business. read more

We stopped Saturday afternoon. Waited 16 minutes to be seated. When we entered there were 8 empty but dirty tables. Employees would peak out from a back room and duck back in. After a waitress wiped a table a second time we where seated.. Our shakes were served in about 5 minutes. The burgers took another 26 minutes, The burger and fries were cold. We also noted that two tables with blacks were seated after us were served and finished before we got our order. We had too much time to watch employees argue who was going to do what. If you want to wait for cold food and listen to employees argue not my job man this is your place. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD AT A STEAK n SHAKE. Very dirty... Took awhile for our order to be taken. BIGGEST COMPLAINT... Waiter was the Worst I have ever had at your restaurant. Very unfriendly... Acted like he did not want to be there and took it out on customers. Never a Smile, Thank you... Just an Angry/Unhappy face. Chili came cold, asked for manager twice and never showed up. I've given this Steak and Shake four chances and the service remains consistently poor will each visit. The service staff seems burden with additional responsibilities that distract them from serving customers. The food is reasonably priced and consistently good though provided you get your order placed. Waiting around for a manager to cash you out at the register is another negative . read more

This place is aweful. To start our family waited forever to be seated,after asking for a booth we got seated at a half table half booth. After receiving our cold food our waitress never came back to check on us. Our children never received refills for the drinks. Our check was also left on the table as food arrived and we were never asked if we would like dessert. Then the bathroom was nasty water all over the floor. We waited about ten minutes at the front counter to pay for our meal as we are waiting the workers behind the counter are talking about how they don't get paid enough for this place. Management needs a massive overhaul. The new manager apparently didn't "know about the new 100 dollar bills" and refused to take my buddy's money. I had to end up putting it on my boss's credit card. The old guy that either owned the place or was the manager was a straight up jerk. The waitress cat, as well as the shorter dark haired guy are both excellent servers. read more

Ate at this restaurant yesterday around 2pm. The service was extremely slow and they were out of the flavor of milkshake we wanted. We did enjoy our food but 6 hours later I was very sick and, given the fact that it passed quickly, I assume it was food poisoning. All the symptoms of it anyway. To the not so bright order taker to the line not moving, I wouldn't recommend going there unless you want to wait 1 hour on a drive thru for a burger, which they claim are fast. This is the nastiest, dirtiest restaurant I have ever been in! When we were finally seated after waiting too long, the table was dirty so the waitress grabbed a rag and wiped it quickly before putting our place settings down. The floor was filthy, my silverware was dirty, when my son unrolled his paper napkin from his silverware, there was ketchup or something on it. His milkshake glass had chocolate on it and he didn't even have any chocolate in his milkshake. When our food came, my son's plate was greasy and dirty looking and his burger was flatter than a pancake. He was so disgusted he couldn't even eat. I kept trying to just eat and get out, but I finally had to tell the waitress how I felt. She told the manager who said there was no charge for our meal. We left right then and there! The waitress was nice and efficient and they were training a couple new waitresses, so that excuses the somewhat slow service, but there is no excuse for the uncleanliness!!! This place was so filthy... ( even the menus were greasy and had dried ketchup on them )!! I told the waitress we wanted 2 orders of the guacamole burgers and as I was ordering I pointed to the picture of the single guacamole burger and also pointed to the top of the menu where it said $4.00 steakburger meal. When we got our food the bill said they were $5.49 apiece. The waitress said "that's the way it comes out when they place the order and that they would fix it at the register". After we ate my friend wanted to order us shakes ( to go ) for dessert. When the waitress brought them to the table the top of the whipped cream was 1/2 inch below the rim of the Styrofoam cup and one of them had cocoa dumped on the top ( and that didn't even go with the fruit flavor of the shake ) and it looked nasty. When we went to the register I told the cashier about the price difference. She called the manager over and he said the guacamole burger wasn't on the $4.00 steakburger menu...I asked for a menu and showed him where it was ( and that menu was also very greasy )!! Unless you are completely desperate, don't stop here. My wife stopped here to pick up dinner for us on Friday night. What a joke. 15 minutes in the drive thru only to completely botch our order. So she goes inside to ask about the order. The manager, (who had two black eyes) gets an attitude with her and charges her for the missing items in the order. So there she sits for another 15 minutes until it's ready. When the food gets home, it's sloppy some cold, some hot. Fries were soggy, chili mac bowl had barely anything in the bowl and worst yet the burgers look like they were just thrown together. We threw most of it away. This is our second time going here. The first time, I called and spoke with a manager and was told to come in, ask for him by name and he would get us a free shake. Unfortunately I didn't remember his name but after a few months we decided to see if they had gotten their act together. Clearly they have not. read more

I generally like Steak n Shake, vs other fast food establishments. This one however is disgustingly filthy. Ordered 2 take out shakes on Sunday 3/5/17, and was kept waiting about 15-20 minutes, as the place was quite busy. I learned that they were also 4 employees short (called off). Waiting near the counter, I had a good view of the grill area. There was food all over the floor, which has to pose a safety issue for employees, not to mention an invitation for roaches & rodents. There was a large square silver bowl full of chopped beef left sitting out off to the left side of the grill (uncovered), food debris all over the counter tops around the grill, cheese left sitting out next to the grill area, the cook placing bread & cheese on the dirty counter tops, and wow did the grills look like they needed a cleaning. There also appeared to be a build up of grill leavings, and grease, in the area behind the grill. I can only imagine how filthy the rest of the kitchen must have been? One last point, someone left about two big plastic trays of rolls on the floor near the grill. Not only are these suppose to be immediately placed in the warmers under the grill, but their presence has to be a big OSHA no no, creating a major tripping hazard. It was almost impossible for other employees to pass between the cook at the grill, and the counter/check out area. Short handed is no excuse for any restaurant to operate like this. I don't blame the employees there for busting their behinds to try to keep pace with customer demand, I blame horribly inept and ineffective management. Oh yeah, my vanilla milk shake tasted like peanuts, and oddly my girlfriend ordered a Snickers milkshake, so obviously cleaning the mixer between milkshakes doesn't happen either. Some one from the Corporate Office needs to do a surprise walk in inspection of this location, and quickly. read more

Today our visit was not a good one at all. Order taken for Original burger with fries burger order was given to server no mustard no mayo but the rest of the toppings. Other order was chicken fingers fries and side of onion rings. After waiting almost 30 minutes our shakes had come after 10 minutes of order taken they were very soft so we ate at them by time rest of order comes they are over half gone. Chicken fingers come fries are hot chicken is barely warm. Burger is same barely warm and mayo & mustard come on side. Started eating burger could taste mayo & mustard after closer examination these two ingredients had been put on burger and half as sly been scraped off.called server over explained what had happened answer was sorry sir do not know what happened. At cash explained oh sorry sir that there was not more mayo & mustard on you burger. Bill was rung in I ask if he had taken off the coupons I had given to him. No I did not looks at order the proceeds to take them off. By this time we are so fed up with having to stand and wait at least 10minutes before someone came and showed us to a seat waiting for our food so long with the place not being busy only 4 other tables has customers it was rediculous.
