Wow, I can see why they didn't have sick care for such a long time. I ordered a hotdog with mustard no ketchup I got a hotdog with ketchup. Wow. This was ridiculously bad - maybe unsafe. Kiosk order only. Got the traditional double steak burger combo with cup of chili on side. Hit the confirm button, and headed for a seat. Before I could sit down, I had my first human interaction. "198" called out loudly, basket thrown on counter and human disappeared somewhere back there. Picked up my basket. First attempted bite in the cold steak burger split the ridiculously stale bun down the middle. I wish I had a thermometer, but the chili (remember it was served almost instantly after order) could not have been above 90 degrees. How long had it been sitting in that pot so far below the accepted 140? I eat at Steak and Shake quite a bit (never before and never again at this one) so I looked around to tell someone how bad it was. Nobody in site! I got a quick glimpse of the grill cook, but he disappeared as I approached. Something is wrong here. Maybe it's today only? I doubt it. Just left. I was in there with my RCA 10" Android Tablet. I was seated at a 2 person booth. I sat there playing games on my tablet for 24 minutes before I was asked, "Have you been waited on?" I told her no because I had not been waited on. 10 minutes later, I went to the counter & aked if any of management was working. A lady in plain clothes followed by a waitress, who told the Manager how long I had been setting there. The waitress asked what I wanted to drink. I told her sweet tea. She had to me before I got back to my booth & then took my order. I finally got my order, the food was fine. I paid my bill after leaving a $2.00 tip. I got my tea for free. Big deal. We have eaten here many times. Normally the service is all right, but not tonight. It took us at least 15 minutes to be seated and then we were put at an out-of-the-way table. It was another 15 minutes before someone took our order. (I timed them.) Food is always good, but service means something, too! I felt as if our waitress was trying, but it still fell short since there were a few errors with our order. To me, there is something wrong when the wait staff don't at least greet you when you walk in. They were busy, but I felt as though it should have been manageable. While we were standing there, it seemed as though the waitresses passing by were deliberately not looking at us, as if trying to ignore we were there. It also took a long time to pay for our meal. When Steak -n- Shake first opened in Bedford, they had a very good manager. It's apparent he's no longer there, since the service has fallen off so much. read more

What can I say..... It's a steak and shake..... The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the burger was decent. I ordered a Frisco melt and a cup of chili.... The chili was barely warm but still tasted ok.... The burger was really good.... Fries were soggy and cold.... My lady said her food was pretty good but her stomach started hurting before we even stood up to leave. Service sucked..... The waitress dropped our check off when she brought our food.... And never returned! We were left without any chance of a refill and had to order (and wait for) the shakes we wanted at the register when we paid. Place isn't busy either. This particular Steak and Shake has the worst management I've ever seen. I come here once a week for breakfast with friends. There is normally a wait to be seated, because nobody is assigned to seat people, yet the "wait to be seated" sign is always up. Today, we were seated in record time, as a waitress who recognized us saw us at the door. The food is just OK. Eggs are always runny, no matter how you say you want them cooked, couldn't find thinner bacon if you tried. The wait staff is good, and keep up with refills on coffee, and check back to see if we need anything else. Then, the real challenge comes. You want to pay, and leave. Wait, wait, wait.... manager will look at you from back room, but make no effort to come to the register. Apparently, only one or two can use the register.... a waiter goes back to get the manager to check me out. She acts like she's never seen me before. Then, I give her my coupons, and she will only take one.... Not sure why, as I have used two coupons before, and nobody ever said a word. The coupon does not have any restrictions listed. But, according to the "manager" lady, I could not use them today. I will miss my friends at the breakfast club, but, I'm tired of feeling like I'm putting someone out by wanting to pay for my meal. And, today, I felt they made an effort to tick me off. I complained once before, so I guess they wish I'd just go away. So, that's exactly what I will do. Place was very busy, took them five minutes to finally seat me, one person. Service and food was great quality. After my meal when upfront to pay and finally had to ask three different people if I could pay because they just kept looking and walking by. First off, taking time out of my day to write a review is something that I have never done. This place is the FILTHIEST RESTURANT that I have ever eaten in my 55 years here on planet earth. The floors look as if they haven't been swept or moped in a month or more. The dividers between the booths were disgusting. The mens bathroom was also deplorable, not being cleaned since God only knows. The whole place was a nasty mess. It's the managers job to get the employees to clean this place. Don't they care that the resturant is disgusting? Maybe they themselves live in squander in their own home. I'll never eat there again. read more
