Excellent service and food. The staff were extremely friendly and although the prices are a little high they were worth it.

I've just moved here and as an avid cook I wanted to befriend a good local butcher…read more Well, these guys didn't disappoint. From having a 5 min healthy discussion on preferences of wing-tip sirloin and ribs of beef I was given a sneeky peep round the back. These guys provide the beef for the best steak places in Glasgow. I'd eaten at one of them earlier in the week and my eyes were bulging at the trays of chateaubriands and rib in sirloins. So, as you'd expect, their meat is very well sourced and as good as you're going to get anywhere. I took a1kg 1rib Angus and pan roasted it in butter and wilted rosemary to get a good sear, then a quick 15 mins in the oven. I had it sat on some roasted beetroot puree with a port, wine and fresh beef stock reduction and the beef was some of the best I've ever eaten. Superb quality and ageing. Week after I wanted a lamb rump as I had the hunger for some dauphinoise. They were happy just to prep some up straight away, no fuss. The lamb was delicious........as was the dauph ;) ........and the sausages. Get the Italian fennel ones and slow cook cook them in your tomato sauce for pasta. Very, very impressive. Prices are as you'd expect for meat of this quality. Look on the window for weekly £10 deals. Steak and chicken. Well worth it.

Walk by often enough, but was compelled to go in today noticing the £10 offer which includes 2 sirloin steaks, 2 pork loins, 4 steak lorne sausages and 4 pork sausages. And if that doesn't make you want to go as well, you're either a vegetarian, or just plain ole crazy (yes, those are different). Nice decor, welcoming, with a good layout and professional staff. Excellent selection of all sorts, including lamb burgers that are absolutely getting destroyed next visit. Delighted with my purchase today and will return. Enough said.

With its bright and colourful signage its pretty hard to miss this place located just of the hustle and bustle of Dumbarton Road. With a big ol selection of genuine Polish goods and a fresh welcoming interior its clear this place does a good trade with the local Polish community and those with adventurous tastes alike. Never averse to trying out new grub i always pick up something when I'm in for a wander, my favorite is trying out the different chocolate bars, a real cultural connoisseur am i!!

Aptly situated in an area which includes Polish Taste deli and St Simon's Parish Church, it has an extensive range of stock, much of which looks like it has been named by randomly picking eight scrabble letters from the bag. One disappointment is that, although this place is supposedly licensed, no alcohol from the country is on sale here and indeed a fridge which is labelled "Fresh Beer" actually holds a range of Polish meats. Nevertheless, Polski Supermarket has earned another thumbs up thanks to the range of Polish magazines, newspapers and books it has for sale. This is something I haven't noticed anywhere else and ensures it's an extremely handy resource for Glasgow's extensive Polish community.

It is like a Tesco Extra dedicated to Oriental Foods. Need it and you will find it. We used to go to Chun Wing at Dobbies Loan but this place puts it to shame. There are only two cities that have a See Woo, London and Glasgow. Mainly staffed by Chinese and Poles, they can generally point in the right direction if you know what you want. The selection is impressive. Dry goods, frozen, seafood, noodles and spices, you will not find anything that matches this place till you hit London. Just go and wander, if nothing else to find out what things people will eat and insist on being imported for their consumption. Durian fruit or Shrimp Chips - everything is a gastronomic adventure. Think of it as a chance to experience something completely new and you just have to wander a little bit past the M8.

I get a bit like a kid in a candy store who happily throws the whole section of Japanese foods into the trolley, as well as endless packets of noodles. The supermarket is nothing fancy - bare concrete floors and a slightly odd layout can be confusing (I always worry I've missed something amazing). Over the past few visits we've managed to get some really good stuff though - they stock kewpie (delicious Japanese mayonnaise), cheap steaming baskets for cooking at home, frozen dumplings when you need a lazy dinner as well as a huge range of cheap herbs and spices. You'll never pay supermarket price again. I only wise they had more of a Japanese selection - but they do have a good mix of Asian food, as well as some European too. This is definitely a love-it or hate-it place, I can see that it might put some unadventurous people off, but if you like trying something different, have a look here and see what you can find!

I never really noticed just how big a deal cheese becomes at Xmas until I saw the queues here, and it prompted me to give it a try myself. I went for the unusual combination of French saucisson and a nice bit of Wensleydale, and after it I can safely say that despite the sometimes stomach turning smell, I'll definitely be back.

You can smell it before you even get in the door, but don't let that stop you!…read more I love cheese, and, I should probably put that on my CV somewhere. I. LOVE. CHEESE. Even the stinky ones. Here's a few tips about Mellis's. First, be sure to talk to the staff and tell them what you're looking for. There's a couple of benefits of doing this. First of all, they'll help you find something suited to your taste. Secondly, they'll help you find something that goes with the meal or wine you'll be having. They're very knowledgeable about their cheeses, so trust them. If they suggest something you're not used to, don't say no just because you don't like blue cheese (or whatever). They won't have you try something they don't think you'll like. Which brings me to my second point: If you're going to dinner at a friend's (which I often do); tell them what's for dinner, or if you're not sure, tell them what wine you're bringing as well. The staff will ask some questions to get a better idea of what you want. Do you want something melty? Something soft? Or maybe a cheddar? Then, not only will they help you pick a cheese which will go with your meal, but they'll help you pick a second cheese that will go with the first. If you tell them where you're going, or what you're planning to have the cheese with, they'll get out their little pear knife, and have you taste different ones until you find the ones you like. You'll never choose blindly, and that's a good thing. Here's another tip: If you're just wanting to buy something for the sake of having it and not a special occasion, look behind you. There's a little display of discounts there, which are usually on sale. I once bought a pot of really melty, stinky stuff and it was divine. And cheap. And once, when I went in with my gift certificate (they won't give you change, so you have to use it all), they gave me a half a dozen eggs for 20p just so that I could use my gift certificate up to the penny. Now that's service! Parma ham and other meats are sliced right in front of you, so that you can choose the thickness and amount that you want, which is way way wayyyy better than buying a pre-packaged selection from the supermarket. And hand-made oatcakes? Pretty cheap for oatcakes and so delish they can be eaten on their own. I love cheese. And I also love I J Mellis.
