The coleslaw was devine and clearly homemade, and as I looked at the sandwich fillings spread out behind the sparkling sneeze guard, I suspected that they were all homemade and of the same standard. No fat encrusted subway bacon here! It has a little breakfast bar at the back to sit in, and aside from the nervousness of the server, both the people working there were very friendly considering I was only there for two tics. My wrap must have been one of the best - and affordable hurried lunch rolls I've had in town - definitely will go back.

They did apologise but the drinks did still take an awfully long time to arrive. They have a range of cakes which changes daily and they normally have something quite unusual - recently I have tried a pistachio and rose cake, white chocolate, apple and pear cake and victoria sponge - I can recommend all three! They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Recently refurbished, they have split the main bar away from the Bistro to allow children to enter and reduce the noise. Good plan! The menu has been overhauled and they don't have as many dishes on the menu as before which is a lot better for the kitchen ensuring quality over quantity. I ordered King Prawns with Calamari, my mom Haggis Fritters and my sister in law Black Pudding in Breadcrumbs with a Chilli Sauce. No complaints. They were tasty and well presented. We then ordered Balmoral Chicken, Fish & Chips and a Chicken Burger. Portions are extremely good for the price, food was cooked fresh to order and of a good quality. There was only 1 staff member within the bistro when I was in looking after 4 tables, which was okay but we did have to wait at times to be served; not her fault though. The dishes are a little expensive for a Bar Bistro in Erskine, but you'd expect to pay more if you dined in Glasgow for the quality and size of the portions. Our bill for 2 courses and numerous drinks for 3 people came to around £56. Not THAT bad when you think of it. All in all, the Whuppity Scourie is much better than it's predecessors and I hope it's hear to stay.

The Cobb salad is possibly even more filling than the burgers are. Last night I opted for the chicken, bacon and tomato sandwich which I got with a pint of Shipyard APA. They usually have a fair few nice beers on tap. For the first time since I've been coming here my meal wasn't completely perfect. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it wasn't the same standard I've been used to. The ciabatta it was served in was kind of tough and the dressing in the sandwich was lacking flavour, whilst the burnt flavour from the chargrilled chicken was just slightly overpowering. The salad was coated in a seriously salty dressing. The fries were great, so it isn't all bad, but all in all I would avoid this menu option in future. It won't put me off returning, though. My partner's burger was perfect - I'll just stick with those in future. In the past I've also tried other menu options which have always been great. I really recommend paying a little more and ordering something off the daily specials board because it's always a treat. Plus, it's just a lovely space to sit in - the staff are great and they don't bother you too much, the restaurant is comfy, the music is always good and never too loud. So if not for last night's meal, they'd get 5 stars out of 5. As it is I have to stick to 4, but I hope to get the chance to upgrade this rating very soon.
