We asked for water when we first sat down. Then the waitress said they didn't have fish tacos OR fish and chips. We asked her for water AGAIN. Then she went behind the bar and started texting on her phone. I went to the bar and asked for water. It was brought right out by someone else. I had asked that the salmon I ordered be undercooked because I hate dry fish. It came out charred with a sauce on top, the broccoli was so undercooked I couldn't eat it, so I didn't eat dinner. The music was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation with our friends from out of town. Husband had meatloaf that was also extremely dry. Won't bother coming downtown to eat there ever again. The Surprise location has been consistently good with the food. Service sometimes suffers, but we don't have to drive downtown. Last time at Surprise we wanted a drink at the outdoor bar, and the bartender was also on her phone showing people things. We left. If you're not going to do the job you were hired for, please find something else to do. read more

I arrange a group lunch and came unannounced. 20 people upon opening. After a "you mean 20?" I was directed to two large tables at the back. Separate checks? No problem. The food came out at the same time and the service was flawless. The food was of course amazing. This was my first visit. I had the Cream of Pea soup of the day. I then envied over the fish and chips. It looked SO GOOD. Next time perhaps. The time to pay the bills went perfectly, which is hard with 20+ guests. For my first visit I'm now a fan. As a fan of craft breweries, this one was high on my list. However, it ended up being a little bit of a letdown. The beer selection is good and I enjoyed my flight. That is for sure the reason I'd go back. I especially liked the Blueberry Ale. But the ambiance, food, and service are not what they are at other breweries. We got the buffalo chicken dip appetizer. It was okay but I feel like the chips it came with weren't that great. Also, for $12, it's overpriced. Also overpriced are the Cauliflower Wings ($14!!!). That is a massive upcharge for something it takes $1 or less to make. The burger wasn't good and I only ate half of it. I ordered the State 46 Burger with no bacon and they still put the sriracha glaze on the burger (note that the menu says "sriracha glazed bacon" so I assumed by taking out the bacon, the glaze also wouldn't be placed on the burger). The patty itself was overdone and not very flavorful. Fries were alright. All told, I would go back, but I'd probably just stick to beer and go elsewhere for food. For one beer flight, one coke, two entrees and an appetizer, this place was $85 after tip. Not worth it in my opinion. read more

Happy hour 3-5pm... they don't talk about it though. Several dollars off flights and beers, and a couple dollars off of appetizers. I tried a flight and my guest tried this cactus cocktail ( I forgot the name) My flight had the highest percentage beers this brewery offers. I like to drink high percentage beers so I don't have to drink as much. This place is chill and a cool vibe. The interior is beautiful and seems fun if you bring more people. The food for the most part is usually really good. I've only ate here twice so far. The first time was good from what i can remember. We ordered the brisket sandwich and the chicken sandwich with a hot sauce on the side. Second time we ordered the chicken sandwich again and the beer cheese burger as well as the chipotle hibiscus glazed wings. The wings were phenomenal. Burger was also really good. The chicken this time was very very off. It looked like it was cooked but the texture threw me off completely i was so scared to take more than one or two bites total. My husband braved it and ate more than half since we always split our sandwiches/burgers. We had gone on a Thursday night before the bill burr show so when we had first got in there was zero wait for a table or bar space. But by the time we were finished with our food and we're ready to check out there was a mass amount of people congregating the bar area. I felt really bad for the guy behind the bar with how many people were trying to wave him down. It was crazy. Very popular place to be i guess on a Thursday night. I'd definitely love to go back for more wings another night of the week when it's less crazy. The mango wheat and the cherry sour are always so good with their food. My three positives and a negative because the world needs more positivity: + location, location, location- this is within walking distance to the Arizona financial theater. Take note to get here well in advance of your show as you will not be the only people with the same brilliant idea + hubby was beyond delighted with the beer selection. We will return just for this reason. My guava margarita was scrumptious + thanks to our very nice server, Joanie, I was able to sub grilled veggies for coleslaw. Thanks to wise menu planners, hubby was able to sub a beyond burger on his Sonoran. He gave it two thumbs up. My fish and chips was ok; there was a strange cinnamon hint in the batter. What a fantastic brewpub in DTPHX! First off, the spray paint art is just awesome! I also like the cool industrial vibe. They offer several of their own beer options as well as other local beers. You can do taster flights, but they charge you by the beer rather than a flat price for a set number of beers. All of beers I had were great, especially their Hell Bitch and the Beer Shop's FYITM. They have a diverse menu, but their small, shareable apps are where it's at! Absolutely LOVED the avocado ceviche! The fish tacos were also good. Our least favs were the 48 fries and meatballs. Too much beer cheese (which I didn't think was possible) made the fries soggy so you couldn't appreciate the beer batter or crunch. The service was great and our waiter Jon was a dream! He was just beyond abfab and made our first visit here so memorable! Next time I'm in the 48th state, I'll be sure to pay food & beer homage once again! read more

I am so glad I found this place during a weekend visit to downtown Phoenix! Wherever we go, I am always quick to find local breweries (extra points if they have food) because my man is a craft brew snob. This place was luckily only about half a mile from the Hyatt where we were staying. We were seated at the bar right away but could've easily been seated at a table as it was a quiet Friday evening. The menu had so many great options- I had to ask our server to help me narrow it down. She luckily helped me choose the half grilled cheese and tomato bisque. It was the perfect winter meal! The tomato bisque was perfectly flavored and medium thick. The grilled cheese was on super thick bread and buttery. Now for the adult beverages! People, I rarely have been to a brewery where I wanted to order a flight because so many sounded good. I went with the Chingona, the white sangria cider, the mango wheat, and the blood orange lager. All amazing but my fave were the last three. The chingona tasted like a stout which caught me off guard. Amazing food, iconic brews, friendly staff, beautiful space-a must when in PHX! read more

Fantastic servers and great beer ... fun atmosphere. That's all before the food which deserves 4.5 stars. Our table had tater tots (tochos), beer cheese pretzel, both awesome apps. The chicken wings and steak salad also got two thumbs up. The only mediocre thing we had were the meatballs ... good meatballs but really mediocre sauce so nothing special. Great beer, decent food and okay service. My party was the only party there and our food took quite a while to arrive. I was impressed when the server asked if we wanted to put the kids food in first but it all came out at the same time and the kids foods plates were so hot to touch. My veggie wrap was missing key ingredients that were designated on the menu. No avocado and when I asked for it on the side it was the worst most brown piece of avo I've ever had. Definitely not kid friendly either.. they had 1 booster and 1 high chair for the entire restaurant AND no changing table for a kiddo in the bathroom (which isn't surprising). I was on a mission to try out another spot in DT Phoenix, I am over the moon with this place!! I was greeted and approached upon entry (huge plus) the GM , Art was a delight with his suggestions of food and drinks which obviously assisted in my final selection! So like a fat kid I orders the cevehie and chicken wings! I started with the mango beer and loved that Art read my mind and brought me a sample of the blueberry which became my beverage of choice for the remainder of my experience. The ambiance , the food, the beverages and service were well worth my over share on my social outlets and I will be back!! The bar doesn't close until 1 or later. The bartender served drinks at 12 a.m. then the manager comes around and kicks everyone out. Did not let people finish their drinks. So we went to State 48 on Friday, November 3 because we were going to pregame it for a concert we were going to. We met our cousins there who were originally going to sit at the bar and so we followed them and then we ended up grabbing a table that was big enough to set us all. My other cousins were in the bathroom and when they came out they got yelled out by the manager because we sat ourselves. I understand that we should have ask for the table after we decided to get a table. But nevertheless patrons should not be yelled at by any staff member. He was rude and not professional. I drove up from the borderland to spend a day in Phoenix, hike at sunrise and sunset, and drink beer in between. This was my first stop after hiking with my dogs up the Mormon Trail to Fat Man's Pass in South Mountain Park. After squeezing through the narrow pass I rewarded myself with some very good wheat ales here. The outdoor seating on the west side is narrow and hogs the sidewalk. It's shaded during the morning hours. Perhaps building the patio was an afterthought, but the only thing I didn't like about the patio were the homeless people pulling their belongings behind them. Some came within inches of me, but luckily the dogs weren't a nuisance to anyone. I was the only one on the patio during my 90-minute stay. The inside got busy by the time I left. I was the first customer of the day when I stopped in yesterday at opening and got nothing but stellar service. I started out with a pint of Mango Wheat, then had tasters of the pineapple pilsner, blueberry ale and orange blossom triple. All were very flavorful. I did not order food since I had eaten a late breakfast and was not hungry. There are a lot of beers on tap from all varieties, so any beer aficionado will find something to please their palate. I appreciate the free parking right on the building's east side, another reason to stop in at this location. There are parking meters right on the street. read more

My favorite place during our trip to Phoenix. We are fruity beer lovers and were ecstatic that we could enjoy a flight full of them! Normally we are lucky to find one or two so if you enjoy them as well this will be a great place for you. The service from the bartender was amazing, great guy! This place is perfect for a work lunch, happy hour brews, quick bite or even larger groups. The space has something for everyone. What a cool brewery! It has this amazing "old steakhouse" feel from the mid century era with the big leather chairs and dark wood accents everywhere. There's a large private room that would be fun for a group dinner with friends! We came here for a nonprofit committee happy hour and sat at a long table in the bar. Everyone enjoyed their beer and they even have a nice selection of wine on the menu (the owners are italian so awesome red wine choices!). A few people in our group ordered food (me included with the ceviche) and it was all fresh and delicious! The whole feel and decor of this place is great! The art-graffiti on the bar wall is pretty awesome too! The only negative I have of this place is that parking is super hard! Wish there were more spots! But we will be back! read more

Probably the best food option if you wanna grab something to eat before an event at the Van Buren. Most recently came here before the Gryffin concert and had a good time. It is located right across the street, no more than a three minute walk away. Atmosphere inside is great, although service can be a little slow at times (my only complaint about the place). There's lots of seating inside and outside if the weather and temperature permits. We ended up having our meal inside but then went outside to the patio area to chill. If there was one maxim I'd use to describe the food here it would be 'large portions.' I ordered a hamburger and it was huge. My friend had eaten beforehand and decided to try the cheesecake dessert and it was equally large. She couldn't even finish, but no complaints here, better more food than less. Burger flavor itself was awesome, with the bacon being a highlight. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to try more of their beer. I'll definitely make that a priority next time I stop by. read more

Wow, I did not know this was in DTPX. It's great to see night life in Phoenix. The parking lot is super lit! I loved the art on the wall, I kept looking at it throughout the night. The place was very cozy, it I was surprised to see different styles of chairs. The servers were very friendly and recommend many beers. We ordered some pretzels, which were right, fluffy in the inside and a little toasty on the outside. We also ordered two burgers, I got the Steakhouse burger and the fries were perfectly seasoned.
