Thank goodness we found Happy Bark & Tails. From our first meeting, the owner, Madeline, was informative, and caring, gave us a clear idea of what to expect on our wedding day, and took the time to answer all our questions. Every step of the way, Madeline was patient, responsive, and put us at ease. We even scheduled a meet-and-greet a few weeks before the wedding with Madeline and her husband, Gabriel, who is also a co-owner of the business. We were certain that they would not only care for Oreo but treat him like their own baby. On the day of our wedding, Madeline and Gabriel arrived at our hotel and immediately took care of Oreo. They put on his cute "best dog" scarf and bow tie and handled him while my husband and I got ready for our wedding. They walked him, fed him, played with him, helped him pose for pictures with us, and treated Oreo like family. They transported him to the venue, took him back to our hotel, and stayed with him until we got back. We couldn't have asked for a better company or people to work with! They split up the dogs based on size (i'm assuming) and they all have outdoor spaces to roam around and play. Rocket is a very anxious dog but he's gotten very comfortable with coming here. He used to be timid with the staff (he's not the biggest fan of people lol) but within a month he was letting them pet him and not clinging to me as much when dropping him off. They have packages every month with good deals (like buy 10 days get one free, buy 10 days get 5 enrichment days free, etc) that I always opt for. They have great hours too, they open at 6:30 on weekdays which is perfect for my 7am start time at work. They're open until 7 but sometimes if I get out of work a little late I can call and come pick him up at like 7:15 if I need. I haven't used the onboarding services or other ones, I just drop him off in the morning and pick him up after work. I love this place and they really ease my nerves as a first-time dog mom in her 20s figuring all this out lol. I will say that I personally haven't had a bad experience with this person, but my boyfriend has mentioned that the blonde lady at the front desk has an attitude and I've seen it with other customers. I have been a loyal customer for many years and have entrusted K9 Resorts with my three pugs. Under the original owner and staff, both I and my dogs were treated like family. Unfortunately, my last three boarding experiences have been increasingly disappointing. Instead of being welcomed as a long-time customer, I have been greeted with comments such as, "Who are these dogs?" It was surprising and disheartening given our long history with the facility. The most troubling incident occurred during my most recent pickup. After I expressed that I was disappointed that no one remembers the dogs or me, the front desk employee became visibly upset. She went to retrieve my dogs, and while I was waiting in the lobby, I heard my smallest pug let out a loud yelp. Moments later, the employee came running into the lobby, yelling and holding out her arm, saying, "Look what your dog did to me," referring to what appeared to be a scratch. Furthermore I was being verbally confronted for expressing my dissatisfaction. The entire interaction was alarming and unprofessional, especially considering she was handling my three dogs at the time. I later called the location to speak with the manager, only to be told that she had resigned. I then contacted the corporate office in Berkeley Heights, where my information was taken and I was advised to contact the Regional Director. I did so, and he also took my information and told me he would investigate the incident and call me in 2 days. That was a week ago and I've heard nothing. My concern extends beyond poor customer service to the manner in which both I and my dogs were treated during this experience. I hope this matter is thoroughly investigated and that meaningful steps are taken to restore the level of professionalism and care that once made this location exceptional. It's is currently substandard. K9 Resorts has permanently lost my business. I don't trust them with my dogs and I don't like being treated poorly especially when I pay so much for their services.
