We arrived after lunchtime so we avoided the rush. You order at the counter and take a seat. Staff will bring your order to the table when it's ready. Our order was ready in about 10-minutes. Nancy and my mom ordered the cup of New England Clam Chowder ($6) and I decided on one of their specials - the Chicken Florentine Quesadilla ($14) and a medium coffee. They had 6 different coffee varieties to choose from including decaf but there were only two regular options remaining and were running low. The chowder was hot and delicious. My quesadilla was also hot and had great flavor. The only thing they could have done better is grill the tortilla shell a little longer so that it's more crispy. It was more on the limp side, but still good regardless. The staff bake up a ton of muffins and other yummy looking baked goods daily. Although we didn't try any today I would definitely return to try them next time I'm back in the area. All-in-all, a great spot to stop for breakfast, lunch, or quick snack.

I order pour over pretty much every time it's available at a coffee shop. Jacob Alejandro's pour over service is pretty much ceremonial! They serve it on a tray. The tray has the "pitcher", a glass for service, and a glass of palate cleansing jade tea in the middle. (I did have to ask what the jade tea was) The palate cleanse was the perfect start. The Costa Rican coffee was heavenly, one of those drinking experiences where even my amateur palate was engaged. It was truly nice to sit for a while and enjoy a great cup of coffee at Jacob Alejandro! Yes, they would fit in a larger city but smaller cities deserve great coffee also!

So my friend and I crossed Madison Avenue and peeked into the tinted windows. Not only were they open, but the place was bustling. The inside of Jacob Alejandro is elegant and beautifully decorated. Furniture, plants, music and wall art are arranged to set moods. It feels more like a club than a coffee house. The baristas are super friendly, helpful and patient. As I tried to make up my mind on what to order, they offered suggestions. I wound up with matcha. I think my friend had some kind of latte. I remember both beverages were delicious. There's long "conference" table with chairs in the center of the room, soft sofa with coffee tables, and stool seating along the front window. They also offer free wifi access too. The drink menu is straightforward offering hot & iced drinks including coffee, espresso, cappuccino, machiatos, lattes, tea (cup or pot to stay), iced tea and cold brew (coming soon at the time of posting). They also have a few baked goods for sale to go with your drink. I stopped by Black Cat Coffee recently for coffee. I got a Medium 12 oz Hot Coffee ($3 plus tax) which was very very hot and definitely needed a cardboard hot drink sleeve from the creamer & sweetener station. The service here was prompt. The coffee was brewed just right and no bitter taste, even drinking it black. I took advantage of the free wifi to catch up on news while enjoying my hot breakfast food I picked up from another cafe with my hot coffee.

The breakfast food is incredible, typically by Tyler-- a great cook and Chef. The breakfast burrito is out of this world. (As for it Tyler's way!) the coffee and lattes are truly very high-quality, but not overly pretentious. And if you know, then you know, when a coffee shop does it up too much and their prices are astronomical. That is not this place, they balance it perfectly by having good quality beans, roasted perfectly good quality, food, and breakfast items that makes starting your day such a treat by coming here. And lastly, the kickstart name comes from the owner's being motorcycle enthusiasts. The inside decor has a really cool and funky vibe to it with really awesome artwork and even a motorcycle inside. What's more, they tell me that small dogs are welcome. I stopped in recently after taking a stroll in the park with my West Highland Terrier. I was surprised when they told me that my little dog could come in, too. I ordered the most wonderful hot chai latte with coconut milk and a dash of cinnamon. Since I was staying, it was served up in a stoneware cup with saucer. I also ordered a potato borek, which they explained was a small Turkish-style mashed potato pie. It was good. My friend ordered a delicious large house coffee with cream. The cafe is small but inviting with exposed brick walls. There's nice furniture and interesting wall art, including a banjo hung from one wall. But my favorite is the amoeba-shaped full length mirror with the words,"You look amazing," painted above it.
