We hit this Starbucks on our way back home from vacation in SB for the obligatory September 1st official pumpkin season drinks. I ordered the pumpkin spice Frappuccino, a pumpkin spice cold brew coffee and a plain pike's place coffee. I think the baristas were a bit distracted. The cashier asked if we wanted cream and sugar in the pike's coffee, we said yes and she handed us the coffee with no cream and sugar. So I had to take it back to the barista and ask for the cream and sugar. Then I noticed the person picking up their Frappuccino before me had to ask for a straw. My frap was ready and o had to ask for a straw. My mom's cold brew was ready a few minutes later and again we had to ask for a straw. I had a very pleasant experience at this Starbucks location last Tuesday evening. I asked which teas had no caffeine and the barista let me k ow to choose from the passion teas. I ended up choosing the passion tea. You then have an option to add lemonade since it can be bitter without. I obliged and it was very yummy. The barista was very nice, but unfortunately I don't remember her name. The establishment seemed clean, inviting and had fun music. I love this Starbucks. Whenever I'm in town and need to work, I come here. The food is good. The staff is great. They're very friendly and helpful. And most important, is that they have power outlets so my laptop doesn't run out of juice while I'm having breakfast and working. I've seen at 2 other Starbucks in the Santa Barbara area, they've removed the power outlets. I think this is extremely shortsighted on those locations because the success of Starbucks was built off of road warriors and remote workers. I asked for 2 Grande and 1 Trenta iced peach green tea lemonades and a Grande double shot latte. I got 3 venti Passion Tango lemonades filled up 3/4 of the way. Although the latte was correct I was confused about the Lemonades and so I walked up to the counter and told the man working there, "these drinks are supposed to be iced peach green tea lemonades" and he responded with "oh we're out of the green tea." I would've liked to know that information before spending my money on something I didn't want. Coworkers also argued about a separate topic in front of customers. Hair in my chocolate loaf. this is my second time doing this as Yelp said they thought my review was second hand. I buy via our Phone App so order would be listed on it. I continue to buy my daughter her drinks and breakfast sandwiches very often but i have NEVER gone back for any bakery goods since the disgusting incident. The La cumbria store manager was dismissive. I first spoke to a young man and then his boss, who had an asian accent. How much more detail does YELP need to know this is authentic. They can call me. I felt SBX Cumbria was so dismissive i contacted corporate general email and will talk to my contacts there when i am back in Seattle. (as Yelp can see I review places in many locations..esp Seattle and Santa Barbara). Look, if SBX had a fluke with the HAIR baked into my chocolate loaf, they needed to reassure me. I asked if they had checked with their supplier and let them know about it. I got no response. Anyways, I still go as i said...but I dont get any baked goods anymore.. SBX is losing a lot of sales with us in that department because they don't seem to want to address it. Yes, they refunded me as they should but they have not truly talked about looking into it which is what most customers would want to hear. I have no confidence it won't happen again. I would like to add an update to my previous review. I have been visiting this Starbucks 2-4 times a week in the past few months. I am extremely excited for the breakfast sandwiches offered. I'm am not endorsing the nutritional value of the sandwiches, but they are delicious! So to address my real concern of the condition of the the rest rooms, I used both since my last review and I have to say I believe they noticed my review and took some (minimal) action. There was some improvement. Starbucks is global and after years of working for Hilton, I know there are standards that should & do cross boards without a hiccup. Store full of customers and full staff but only a couple doing anything while the lines get longer and the drinks back up. I love they have the new lids, but they stop carrying straws and no new lids for the Trenta size? So how does one drink a Trenta with no straw and no sip lid. Not very well thought out. If you want a great coffee experience in the morning or afternoon, DON'T come to this Starbucks. My last 5 visits have been atrocious, thee personnel have no training in coffee beverage serving and the false attitude is very obvious. Here is a sample of the last couple customer experiences. Visit 1. No Sleeve Hot coffee with no sleeve, the coffee temperature is close to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, but the Battista is not trained to include a sleeve, in this condition I burned my hand Visit 2. Smoking I'm walking into this Starbucks and a person is smoking at front door I asked the personnel and she asked if I requested the smoker to stop, which is not my role, by state law the store needs to enforce this policy. Visit 3. Blocking front door We're opening the front door of the store, there a women standing in front of the entrance blocking us from entering, we say excuse me..she ignores us, then we ask five times..she won't move..she is blocking us, this is a condition the staff needs to become aware and help customers whom are being exposed to abusive rude customers Visit 4. Stalking There's a women in her early fifties, she has mask half drawn that when we come in the store she stands between us and the cashier, when she sees us she always stands up and harasses us with this machismo behavioral delivery. Visit 5. Out of item on app is fraud We always order same items, the app says it's out but it's available, the store supervisor says the app is wrong and she'll fix it and never does Visit 6. Standard question, "what's planned for your day" Here's the deal, I'm sitting drinking my coffee and the cashier is trained to ask "so what's planned for your day"..after she asks that to my self knowing it's scripted I find it disingenuous and ridiculous Visit 7. Non standard and offensive dialogue So we're in this store drinking coffee and for 2.5 hours a female worker is talking to a co-worker how offended she is by customers and co workers, this narrative went on for 2 hours, she delivered the toxic complaints very loud so all customers could hear it, she was very self ritious In her delivery. So Starbucks: if your trying to relax and start your day over a cup of coffee, do you think you have a desire to listen to a monologue of why the customers are bad and employees are mean? So I placed an online order and when I went to pick it up, that's always great to be able to customize and place your order on the app. So when I went to pick it up, it was already, but I did ask for a cup with ice, there three gals working behind counter. As the gal is serving the ice I notice that one gal, has her hair loose, a kind of ponytail but lots of hair coming out from it, and she keeps playing/touching it with her hand. It's just so not right!!!! Specially or someone handling food/drinks it's just unsanitary!!! honestly during Covid and all she needs to keep her hands super clean, why are sanitation rules being enforced? I think it is because we spend so much money for coffee these days (it's amusing to think about the times in the 1920's when you could buy a cuppa joe for 5 cents!) that places like Starbucks, Peets, Blue Bottle and Handlebar are judged on another level: a higher level than most places you can buy an espresso drink or a coffee. This makes sense and this rings true. My experience with this La Cumbre 'bucks has only been positive. From the manager to the Baristas and everyone in between the service and interaction between the employees and myself has been pleasant, fast, committed. There are a number of bad reviews about this place yet i have never received bad service here and i have been here maybe 100 times over the last several years. I have to be honest and say something that i have been wanting to say here on Yelp for a long time: you must take control of the service you get in a place in which you are paying good money; particularly when the people behind the counter are young people who are in the work force for the first time. I say all of this to counteract, even in a small way the bad reviews of this Starbucks in my adopted city of Santa Barbara. If i have an issue with a 6 dollar cappuccino, i speak up and they will make it over. "They" can like it, they can not like it. Not my issue. I am the customer. I am the one paying. Typing this here it does sound a little harsh but in reality, is it really? I am polite yet firm. In any event this Starbucks unit is one of my faves along with that in La Canada, Studio City and the drive thru in south Glendale. The people here are, once in a while mesmerized by the beauty of SB, the beachiness, the surfer-like paradise and the loveliness of the land but a little firmness in how you order and how you react to bad service goes a long way. Our local Starbucks and a great location due to it's precise location, if that makes sense. This store is in the La Cumbre Plaza just off State Street. Not much seating inside, but do they need it? This is Santa Barbara. Weather is almost always perfect. The abundance of seating outside is what I like about this store. It's plentiful and peaceful. Staff is super friendly and they'll get your orders right. I recently saw a woman drop her entire venti latte over one of the tall tables and it spilled all over the stools around it. A staff member immediately stopped what they were doing to help her clean it up and even made her a fresh one. Good friendly service if you ask me. It can get decently crowded early in the mornings on the weekends, but this is why Starbucks has their mobile ordering system. If you visit a Starbucks even once a month and don't have the app, you're missing out. I usually order 3-5 minutes before I arrive and my coffee is always waiting for me when I get there. The interior is cozy with dim lightening and a few high top tables not ideal for those who like to work indoors.
