My sister and I had the best experience at this Starbucks today! :) The gal who took our order (I wanna say her name was Maritza, if not very close to it) was super quick and efficient in doing so and was also friendly. She also took the time to read the order back which is always appreciated. My sister has been a Starbucks partner for about 18 years or so and we can admittedly be particular about our drinks because we are a Starbucks family through and through haha! I didn't catch the baristas name with the cute short haircut and happy vibe but our drinks came out not only aesthetically pleasing but made perfectly AND had the most darling little drawings on the cups as well. Love the staff at this Starbucks! They are very friendly and make you feel valued. I usually get the brown sugar cortado which has three shots of espresso and is so delicious. There is no seating inside but has a fantastic outside seating at this location. This Starbucks is located on Adams Ave in the heart of Kensington. Parking can get tough, but is very walkable if you live in the neighborhood. read more

My husband and I have been going to Starbucks since it first opened many years ago. We've been to many of them in San Diego, but the one on Adams Ave. in Kensington is by far our favorite! We love the outdoor eating area and feel it's the nicest one we've ever been to. There's always plenty of seating and we're comfortable there during the summer and winter. We've come to know the people who work there and find them knowledgeable and friendly. They call both of us by name every time we go in and never fail to make us feel special and welcome. I lived in Kensington for over 10 years before moving and this was my home away from home. I studied here as a student in college, walked here daily to induce labor, later brought my baby back for coffee before I would push him in the swing across the street for HOURS. This store was my steady in my ever changing seasons of life and I never had a bad experience. The team knew me and my whole families orders. Wrote cute notes on our cups long before it was policy and always made us feel welcome. We miss this store so much and have stopped back in multiple times since our NorCal move. This review is strictly regarding the lack of customer service present by the two ladies in there during my visit. Both were so deeply enthralled in whatever conversation they were having that I wasn't greeted, nor asked if I needed anything. I was browsing the food display while waiting for my order with intent to grab something for my little humans and neither came to ask if I needed assistance, so I chose not to spend anymore money, especially when I realized they didn't even bat an eyelash at me being in the store. I was the only person in there, but apparently I'm invisible. Which is ironic as I'm a highly melanated person. I vocalized my frustration and got a fake ass apology. My drink also tastes like shit and was made horribly. It'd be great if y'all actually hired people that care about the customer experience. read more

I visit this Starbucks multiple times a week and spend a significant amount of money here. Today, I placed an online order and unknowingly selected a hot Café Americano instead of my usual Iced Americano. I didn't realize the mistake until I went to pick it up and mentioned that it was supposed to be iced. At that moment, a completely different employee--whose name is either Ben or Bec, who wasn't the one I was talking to also someone I've never seen at this location before--responded in a very unwelcoming and unfriendly manner. Rather than offering a simple acknowledgment, they told me I should make sure to double-check my order, but it was the tone and attitude behind their words that made the interaction feel unnecessarily harsh. I completely own the mistake, and I genuinely appreciated them remaking my drink as iced. However, in the service industry, small mix-ups happen, and the way this individual handled it was disappointing. This individual just seems unhappy, and it showed in their customer interaction. Kindness is key, and the way you communicate--especially your tone--makes all the difference. I hope this feedback encourages a more positive and welcoming approach in the future. read more

This WAS a neighborhood gathering spot and a nice place to escape the office or the heat to work remotely for a bit. It is now a 'get your coffee and get out' spot with NO indoor seating. The patio outside feels strange because of the shaded ceiling. Kind of a cooped up feeling. After growing up in the neighborhood for the past 50 years, sad to see this no longer be a welcoming place to spend time with others, to read, or get a little work done. The employee I spoke to said everyone hates it, but the staff like it because more storage space in the back for stuff. Sitting on their patio writing this and it's HOT outside. Corporate greed BLOWS. Feels like a middle-finger to the neighborhood. read more

Agree with the other reviews about the remodel. It went from a neighborhood cafe to an "airport Starbucks" with zero memorable ambiance. And even the little room inside is awkwardly arranged so it's everyone has to reshuffle everytime someone comes in. There is seating outdoors, but very little sun shade, so you're always struggling to avoid sun glare. Also there is no trash/recycling outdoors, so you have to fight your way back inside to throw anything away. read more

Starbucks opened in Kensington posing as a coffee shop tearoom come sit yourself down in our venue ! Lisa and Tanya are amazing! i never write reviews but the vibrant energy exuberated by lisa made my morning and tanya is just so equally sweet: there is also an older gentleman who works here who always has the biggest smile on his face too and is so hard working. lisa was climbing ladders dusting off shelves in between making some great recommendations that made customers brighten up. i appreciate you guys being here and really think this upcoming generation could take a lot away from simply observing their customer service and work ethic. read more

This is a good Starbucks. I stopped by here, after eating at the Burger Lounge next door, to pick up a grande iced green tea and a morning bun. The only "bad" thing and it's not really their fault is that I tried to order a Pink Drink on the app and it said it was sold out. You know, typically, I couldn't foresee myself giving Starbucks more than a 3 star rating... just based on the fact that they're the Wal Mart of coffee. They treat their employees just fine, but their thoughts on world domination freak me out a tad. There are two coffee shops in Kensington... and they just so happen to be right across the street from each other. One is Starbucks, and the other is an indie coffee shop that always seems to have a different name. 99 times out of 100, I'd support mom and pop... but not in this instance. That place across the street toes the border of "eh" and "fuck no." I say that because the employees there suck, frankly. They have the demeanor of someone about to get a root canal, and it hardly creates a welcoming environment. I could actually see myself hanging at this Starbucks, funny enough. It's got a REALLY comfortable environment with comfy chairs, couches and tables inside, as well as a nice scene on the patio. Covered by trees, umbrellas and patio chairs with cushions... I could easily slip into a euphoric, coffee-enduced zone and pound away on my keyboard for hours on end. Plus, the employees are terrific. Professional, and very friendly. I know I wrote a review of the other joint... and in that review, I stated that I wouldn't patronize the 'Bucks across the way in an attempt to support the "little guy," but I gotta draw the line somewhere. Bring the coffee snob that I am, refuse to drink coffee at Starbucks. I mean, there are dozens of local coffee shops and micro-roasters all over the area that serve much better tasting coffee beans. But if a friend insists to meet up at one, this is usually the one we pick as they have their "Reserve" selection of single origin beans that are up to par with what you'd expect at your local spots! And this location always has plenty of seating and a large sized patio. It's not overly crowded like the other ones and has that ambiance that Starbucks was once known for back in the day! They're one of the few locations with a clover machine so it'll make your cuppa joe taste much better than any drip machine. read more

I know you think that dogs don't belong, but I'm too loved to be tied up outside AND just a month ago, dogs were still allowed to be carried in. I weigh 9 freaking pounds, and what if my dad had a purse that I was in ... is that different somehow? I've heard the lame "DM or Health Department won't allow it" excuse before, but your policies supposedly changed a couple of years ago and it was allowed. No need to be a dick about your change in policies. Secondly, one small pleasure I have in my few short remaining years is getting whipped topping licks off my daddy's mocha. You said you'd bring his drink outside to us when you kicked us out, and then it sat there for over 5 minutes at the bar. My daddy called the store and let you know that you forgot. This location does not have a drive-thru. They have 30min street parking or a very small parking lot in the back with an extremely narrow passage, with speed bumps, definitely not lowered car friendly. It gets busy in here, especially in the mornings. But the staff was friendly and automatically helped me make my bill cheaper, without even asking, so that was a plus.
