This location is like many other Starbucks--overwhelmingly focused on mobile orders at the expense of in-store customers. On several recent visits, I've had issues with my iced Americano, often finding they didn't add enough cream as I ordered through the app. Despite standing right in front of the baristas and attempting to get their attention, I was ignored while they continued their conversations. When I finally spoke up, it felt like I was interrupting them, and their reactions were less than welcoming. I miss the days when baristas were friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaged with customers. It feels like the current training, workflow, and priorities are entirely geared toward processing as many mobile orders as possible, with little regard for those who come in person. How do I need to give 0 stars. We came over to Starbucks because of the hype of the new Summer drink. But everything else was a total fail. The cashier who rung us up was rude and talk to her friend through the process and then my food was thrown at me!! WTH kinda customer service is this? Also my bacon breakfast sandwich had no bacon and we went and asked for another and she was once again very rude and didn't even acknowledge what my boyfriend was trying give her the sandwich back to her just ended up throwing a new sandwich at the counter didn't even say "order was ready" just had to hope we grabbed the right sandwich. This is walking distance from my friend's place when I stay in the city. We've come here a couple of times for our morning coffee. It's a decent location, super convenient, clean and spacious. The only thing I do not like is them promoting a "drink of the week" which they are out of ingredients to make with. Please don't do this, it's heartbreaking for some of us. read more

Very disappointed in this Starbucks, I have been a loyal customer for 5 years and they started not filling up my no ice venti latte to the top, it's only about half way to 2/3rd full. Yet when I order a hot latte venti it's filled to the top. They are the only Starbucks I run into this issue with, the other locations on El Cajon, university, etc don't do this. I complained to the manager who didn't seem to rationally understand this makes no sense that the vent iced is more expensive than the venti hot yet they don't fill it to the top. I understand she doesn't make the rules but the other Starbucks don't follow this and for someone who is a loyal customer I felt she was kind of rude about it, even one of her staff said yeah guess that makes no sense. Man, what a disappointment. They missed on all levels; messed up my 2 drink order, slow, slow, slow (15 minutes)... charged me for cream? seriously? it ends up, the manager was the one that messed up my order AND the bathroom looked like a hobo lived in it; super disgusting. Zero stars. This store is always understaffed with people that are either new to this job or improperly trained. The total knowledge of their own product is minute, the staff just seemed to go through the motions to collect a check because I wasn't their friend, they put minimal effort toward greeting me and making me feel at welcome. Angry customers interrupt constantly because of the mistakes that the baristas make and they are always out of stock on products in their display case( I literally have to ask for peanut butter bars and string cheese and apple juice everytime, then the staff looks at me like I inconvenienced them. This has to be the worst Starbucks I've had the displeasure of entering. I am honestly jealous of the people that haven't experienced this horrid chain store. These employees are so self absorbed with their own lives that they have no problem ignoring or interrupting the customer while taking your order and then blaming you for their mistake. I ordered two drinks through the Starbucks app before I arrived. Once I got there I payed for my third drink in store and scanned my gift card. I received that drink first. It was set on the counter. I waited for my two mobile orders and saw customers who ordered after me and my friends receive their drinks first. My name was never called and the drinks were never set on the mobile order pickup counter. Just as I was about to ask for them I spotted them both under/behind the counter where the drinks are made. They were out of plain sight &neglected. I only got them after telling the barista they were mine. All 3 of my drinks had my name on them so I don't understand what the issue was. This location is a great neighborhood spot. I stopped in before heading for brunch at the Rabbit Hole across the street for some coffee and a pumpkin scone, and more importantly, to get some work done. I had the Grande Veranda with no room which was good and one of Starbuck's lighter coffees, if you can call it that. Had a terrible experience, at this location. I am a partner and I go in this store and have this partner charge me for this drink when I get it as my Mark-out drink. She first asks me if I worked that day which I did. But this does not matter because due to covid the drink mark outs are free. She then asks me for my store that I work at and I tell her. She acts suspicious and is RUDE and skeptical of me in her tone and body language the whole time. She then asks to see my id, and refuses to scan my partner numbers and rather have me tell them to her verbatim. (This is probably bc she doesn't think I am an actual partner) After all this RIDICULE and biased treatment, she then charges me. Looking as if she's ready to argue with me. I pay bc I do not want to cause a scene. As I watch her make my drink she skimps out on most of the flavorings and even gives me extra sweetener. (I only know this because I AM A PARTNER) OVERALL this women is the RUDEST partner I have encountered in my life and does not help create the THIRD PERSON SPACE that every partner should. If she does she have the decency to be nice to a partner I don't know how this women is possibly nice to her co-partners or even customers. Obviously I love this place, I'm here on average of 5 times per week. But what can be said about "Starbucks" without sounding redundant and trite? Instead I'll just comment on what makes this location stand out. Of course, the neighborhood. But I suppose that is an extremely biased statement. The fact that it is 2 blocks from my house probably isn't relevant to anyone reading this, either. But that *is* the most awesome part for me. The baristas here are all super friendly and nice. They go out of their way to make sure you're happy. On the very rare occasion where they get the order wrong, they replace it immediately, no questions asked, even if the drink you ordered is more expensive than the one you actually paid for. Also, on the (probably rare for non-klutzes unlike myself) occasion where you drop/spill your drink, not only do they not get mad at you for making a mess, they give you a whole new drink and insist upon your accepting it. It's a great haven to escape the heat during the summer, as they will have the AC blasting, and free wi-fi for you to sit and write yelp reviews, or whatever you do on the internet. The outside patio is also a great place to sit on a Saturday morning, sipping a latte, eating breakfast, reading, and watching the going-ons of the neighborhood. There IS the awkward guilt of seeing Lestat's right on the opposite corner and feeling like a sellout for opting for the corporation over the privately owned business... but here is the only place I know of where I can get a hot yummy breakfast for $3 and 300 calories (Reduced-fat turkey bacon & white cheddar breakfast sandwich FTW!). Parking can be a bit tricky during the rush hours (ie: morning time), especially in the pre-coffee daze that most people arrive in. Usually you can wait about 30-60 seconds in the lot and someone will walk out and you can take their spot. There's also usually parking along Adam's and around the corner on Felton where there are two green-curb spots. Just look out for the street sweeping signs, as those meter maids prey on our precaffeinated oversights for city funds. I can't believe they closed the store at 8:48pm. The store hours are until 9pm. I was unable to buy my coffee and won't have any to make in the morning at home. I'm really disappointed because I literally walked 5 blocks from my house and made it before closing time and they closed early. I will not go there anymore. Hailee and Cindy (Store Number 13640) really stood out and made the experience here for my friend and I an outstanding one. The other day, there was a man who had gotten really drunk and started going on shouting inside the shop and the two employees, Hailee and Cindy, did such an amazing job with keeping everyone safe and as well as making sure the drunk man left. This rating is for the Starbucks on Adams AV underneath the Normal Heights sign. This location has gone to the dogs. The building was originally a bank so be sure to notice the colorful painted ceiling both inside and over the front porch outside. Its too bad that they no longer display the old photograph of the lobby when it was a bank. If lost, they should get another from the SD History Center, or the Title Insurance archives and nail it to a wall. The coffee and service are the usual high quality we expect from Starbucks. My reason for the one star is simply because this location has gone to the dogs. Dogs are allowed, even encouraged, inside and some sniff the prepared food displayed for sale by the cash register. I acknowledge that dog owners love this place because there are so many dogs there -- inside and outside. I just don't like that many dogs sniff food for sale. The occasional angry bark or growl between dogs is not as offensive as dog owners allowing their dogs to sniff or lick food for sale. read more

I almost feel like I'm cheating on my girlfriend when I come to this Starbucks. Why, you ask? Well... it's right across from one of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego (Lestat's). I should be over there, rocking my usual Americano... but on a blue moon, I might dip into the 'Bucks for a similar caffeinated beverage. Friendly folks, which is pretty standard for Starbucks. I love how large it is inside, that it offers plenty of seating, and that there are many large windows to gaze out and let the sun pour in.
