We fully recognize that our request was unorthodox -- we were three women traveling through Salem on a Sunday, caught in a bind when all the luggage storage options in town were unexpectedly closed. We only needed a safe place to leave our bags for two hours while we visited the Witch Museum. We were willing to pay, buy food and drinks, and even open our luggage to show we weren't carrying anything dangerous. We weren't demanding, just asking for a bit of grace & empathy in a stressful moment. Instead, Marie came out stomping, yelling, and treating us like a problem to get rid of. She spoke to us with utter disrespect, then slammed the door in our faces -- when a simple, "I'm sorry, we can't allow that," would have sufficed. The situation didn't call for hostility, and it was genuinely shocking to be treated so poorly when we were clearly in distressed and trying to be respectful. Thankfully, not everyone in the store was like that. The barista, Saniya, was a total angel. She showed compassion, patience, and understanding -- everything that Marie did not. Saniya saw our humanity and tried to help, even though her manager made it clear that kindness and customer service was not a priority in that moment. We understand that rules exist, but when people are clearly struggling and offering to compensate you for a small favor, you'd hope the person in charge could show some decency. Instead, Marie reminded us just how much people lack compassion when in power. But Saniya reminded us that there's still good out there, too. Thank you, Saniya and other male barista were truly be the type of humans that Starbucks should hire and promote. You were the light in a really disappointing situation. I ordered an iced decaf coconut flavor oat milk latte, and it was absolutely delicious. When the coconut flavoring ran out just before I ordered , the staff happily went to the back and opened a new bottle so they could make exactly what I requested. They were fun, friendly, and seemed happy to help. That small act of care made me feel welcomed and valued as a customer. The latte itself was smooth, flavorful, and perfectly cold, exactly what I needed while walking around Salem on a steamy summer day. Front Street serves Jim's Organic Coffee, and the quality came through in every sip. I also loved the coffeehouse's cozy, lived-in atmosphere and its visible LGBTQ inclusivity. It felt like a place created for community: warm, expressive, relaxed, and welcoming to everyone. That matters to me just as much as a great cup of coffee. We call and right away the guy on the other line thinks we are lying. He insists (with an attitude) that he made the sandwiches right. He then says that it was someone else who messes up. We remind him that he was distracted and had to repeat our order. We ask for a refund and says that we will have to bring him the sandwich so he can see, because he doesn't believe us. He also says that Maritza left for the day so we will have to come back tomorrow. We finish our work at school and on our way back, go inside and there is no one there. "Hello!??! Hello?!! " nothing. We are about to leave and the guy comes in from the outside. We show him the sandwich (he then hangs up on his personal call... apparently he is a social butterfly) . He then says that we should have made sure that he made the sandwiches right. He eventually called Maritza and returned the money in cash. By that point we had some awkward turtle moments because a few customers had come in to witness this made speaking to us, so rudely. I cannot cannot believe that we are in a situation where COVD-19 is hurting businesses, and you would consider treating a customer in such a poor manner. We just wanted to grab breakfast and go. If I wanted someone to be rude to me, I would call my sister, who charges nothing for her tude. Never again, Mellos.

It also doesn't help that the music inside is so loud that the staff can barely hear a customer placing an order. Turning it down even a little would go a long way toward improving communication and avoiding mistakes. This location has potential, but between the unwelcoming attitude, in my opinion the wrong side of route 114, the loud environment, and the regular order errors, it really needs serious improvement before it becomes a place worth returning to. Several other AJ locations seem to be slipping the last year or so. Maybe expansion happened too fast or they just want to be like other coffee shops that couldn't care less what drink they give to you.
