I ordered a coffee from there today and went to do homework in the far corner with the small tables. there was a homeless person passed out in a chair who had clearly not ordered or bought anything from Starbucks and was snoring extremely loud making it hard to do my work. I asked the employees if they could do something about it (which with law enforcement knowledge they can and should) and they told me they would tell him to leave. Connected to The Alex, this Starbucks was great in terms of location, hours, menu, and service. They open earlier than a lot of the surrounding businesses, so if you're planning an early start to Rushmore or the National Parks this location is best. Thank you to the staff who went out of their way to get us our order ready as soon as you all opened. We were passing though and got there right as they opened. I love going to the Alex Johnson Starbucks because the Baristas are super polite and professional great Coffee Shop to hang out.

Live down the road from the Alex, so I mobile order from this Starbucks once a week or so. Even though I just run in to grab my drink, the baristas almost always say hi/good morning. They're always busy since this location is downtown and in the hotel, but I've never had an issue with an order being made incorrectly. The few times I've ordered at the counter, the baristas are friendly, and I've seen them exercise incredible patience with the hoards of clueless tourists that come through. The layout is unique for a Starbucks, but it fits well with the decor of the rest of the hotel - warm and cozy, easy to work in or just relax for a bit. read more

Would have preferred to sit inside and enjoy our coffee, but the fly population indoors was more than I could stand. These were the kind of flies that bite. So we sat outside in 85 degree heat. I just learned that this is a licensed store, meaning it does not participate in the usual Starbucks rewards. As someone who has worked Starbucks for 5 years and has managed one myself, I walk in and see health code violations. Barista fingers in our cups, painted nails, opened coffee grinder, expired coffee, no timers going, and so much more. If it weren't for the fact I was meeting someone where for coffee, I would have left and not ordered anything. Worst Starbucks I've ever been to. Not only poor drinks, but the worst customer service I've ever had. We ordered 2 grande decaf americanos with extra room, and 2 regular americanos with extra room. We received the first two with cups completely full. When we reminded the barista that we had asked for extra room, she poured out about a quarter of the cups and handed them right back. We were flabbergasted. Since the point of asking for extra room is to get stronger coffee, we asked her to remake the coffees. The situation went downhill from there. She proceeded to give us 3 even more watery decafs, and one watery regular, but only after seeing to several other customers first. She seemed very put-upon when we asked for a new drink, and we overheard her talking snidely about us to another employee when we walked back through the coffee shop. The barista's bad attitude and lack of professionalism was awful, not at all what we would expect from a Starbucks. read more

I honestly can't say anything bad about my experience at this Starbucks. I went twice with the vouchers provided from the Hotel Alex Johnson. All employees that we encountered were friendly and efficient. My iced coffee with caramel was made correctly and quickly, although it's pretty hard to mess up. The breakfast sandwich, muffin and scones were all average. I am never impressed by Starbucks' food. read more
