Durar is located in downtown Morgantown, and it's the only Yemeni coffee shop in the area. They offer a number of other desserts, including a variety of cheesecake in unusual flavors, like pistachio, kunafa and lotus. They also have croissants, bagels, milk cakes and danishes. Of course, Durar has coffee. They serve Yemeni coffee, which has spices like cardamom and clove in it. if you're dining in, you can get it presented to you nicely on a tray, with real cups and a carafe. They also have espressos, lattes, iced coffee and hot chocolate. It took quite a while to get my honeycomb bread, but they were super busy, which I liked to see, so it didn't bother me. The honeycomb bread was worth the wait, for sure.

That said, the overall vibe felt a bit forced to me, almost like it was trying too hard to create a certain atmosphere instead of feeling naturally welcoming. That's obviously a personal impression, but it stood out. I also tried one of the lemon baked goods and was disappointed. It was dry and not especially flavorful or appealing, which was a letdown because it looked promising. No regrets. The iced coffee was great! I always forget about iced coffee when I'm at a coffee shop, because I just usually order a hot black coffee. I'm so stuck in my ways, sometimes! But iced coffee was a good choice in this situation, and it came with a little vanilla cream, which was unexpected but a nice indulgence. The Grind is located right across the street from West Virginia University. It was packed when I visited, and I imagine it is almost always packed, because of its location. But the people who work here are very efficient and friendly, and my iced coffee was ready lickety-split. I got my coffee to go, but there are some tables inside the coffee shop to sit and relax, if you wanted to. One of my favorite things about The Grind is that they have a confession box in the restroom. I left a little confession in the box, because it promised that the box was "a safe place to share what you can never tell a soul," and I felt that I could trust this random coffee shop in West Virginia with my whole heart. Salt-rising bread. There's nothing like it…read more My older brother recently emailed our family recalling, "how as a kid I remembered the smell of salt-rising bread being toasted for breakfast. The strong pungent aroma was a deceitful invitation to its mildly salty cheesy taste on buttered toast. I had looked for it in the past to no avail, and it had been a long time since I had reminisced about it." He went on to say that his wife surprised him with bread bought from here, and that clinched the deal for me. I promptly ordered two loaves which arrived perfectly packaged a few days later. One went into the freezer while we sliced the other for toast slathered in butter and honey. Mmmmm. Driving to PA from NC is impractical, however, from time to time I'll place an order for salt-rising bread. Well worth the money for a quality-infused trip down memory lane.
