Outstanding salt rising bread! Worth a drive from Pittsburg, DC, Columbus or Blacksburg JUST for this bread. I ordered a couple of loaves and they arrived well-packaged and fresh. Thank you Rising Creek for bringing me back to my childhood in Michigan when you could buy it from Awrey's. Keep up the good work! read more

Salt-rising bread. There's nothing like it. My older brother recently emailed our family recalling, "how as a kid I remembered the smell of salt-rising bread being toasted for breakfast. The strong pungent aroma was a deceitful invitation to its mildly salty cheesy taste on buttered toast. I had looked for it in the past to no avail, and it had been a long time since I had reminisced about it." He went on to say that his wife surprised him with bread bought from here, and that clinched the deal for me. I promptly ordered two loaves which arrived perfectly packaged a few days later. One went into the freezer while we sliced the other for toast slathered in butter and honey. Mmmmm. Driving to PA from NC is impractical, however, from time to time I'll place an order for salt-rising bread. Well worth the money for a quality-infused trip down memory lane. Has the dough just a rising on my "Give 'em a whirl" meter. Buy here. read more

Nice ambiance but our order was incorrect for sausage gravy and biscuits. They charged us $9.00 additional on top of the $14.95 a plate for the sausage? !!! Rip off and deceptive. Cashier never told me this in short the sausage gravy and biscuits was $19.50 EACH of us! Then they added a hidden service charge when I ordered at the register and had to clean my own table. And NO Handicap parking by the ramp?!!! Terrible. We won't be back. Nice setting but watch for hidden charges!! read more

My mom ordered two loaves of salt rising bread. She was ecstatic to find somewhere to purchase salt rising bread. It arrived today. We had some with our supper this evening. It is very dense and tasteless. My mama grew up on salt rising bread as a child. I remember my granny making it as a child. This tasted like plain dense white loaf bread. Extremely disappointed. My mom's exact quote, "well that's a waste of my $28." read more

Rising Creek Bakery has earned accolades at various times for its part in reviving the art of baking salt-rising bread. And they deserve that publicity just for that effort in pursuit of culinary history. But here's the thing -- I've since had salt-rising bread from several other bakeries. Good bakeries. And I've even tried to cultivate it myself. And yet, I can't shake the fact that the loaves being produced here are head and shoulders better than anything I've tried anywhere else. The execution here is nothing short of outstanding. This may be my favorite loaf of bread anywhere. I can't go more than about 6 months before I find myself mail-ordering a few loaves again. Please, please, just keep up the magic. And thank you for the continuing joy you bring. #ThankYouThursday2021 read more

My first visit to this bakery was during a meet-up of vintage motorcycles. The Morgantown Cafe' Racer motorcycle group meets here every second Saturday from 10-12 during the warm months of the year. We park our bikes down by the creek, and have fellowship over good food and drinks from this bakery. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Breakfast Sandwich, and it was really good. I look forward to coming back again, and trying something else, and I hope to get a loaf of "Salt-Rising" bread also . . . Cheers! P.S. For motorcyclists traveling Rt. 19 (a lovely, scenic, twisty ride), seek this place out for your next rest stop, it's a little off the beaten path, but so worth it. read more

Hannah is the new owner of Sweet Baby's Rising Creek Bakery and she's AWESOME!! We had the highly recommended Reuben. Whoa! What a fabulous sandwich! Hubby had a beautiful salad with smoked salmon. We all enjoyed a cinnamon bun, banana nut bread, and almond paste cookies. All fabulous! And the outside seating was perfect! Geese on the river and blooming flowers and trees. Don't miss this place under new management; it is SO worth it! read more

A rainy day in the region, and I wanted to try someplace new for breakfast. I drove to Mount Morris, PA to a place called Rising Creek Bakery (aptly named, as the creek was rising behind the restaurant). I loved the atmosphere of the place, from the geese outside to the welcoming dining area, the building was beyond my wildest imagination. I ordered the Omelet and an order of French Toast with bacon. I need to mention that the toast and French Toast were made from salt rising bread that is baked onsite. The omelet was stuffed full of onions, green peppers, white cheddar cheese and ham. To put it in simple terms, it was amazing! Great taste and value! The French toast was made to perfection, and the homemade bread was a real treat! I actually purchased a loaf of the salt rising bread to have at home. I will return here many times in the future to enjoy the good food, and as spring and summer arrive, the outdoor seating! A great place to have good food and enjoy some coffee! read more

I love the Rising Creek Bakery! Legitimately, this place is the best restaurant in Greene County. If you haven't stopped by their location, you're truly missing out on a thoughtful experience and a delicious meal. Honestly, the atmosphere, people, quality and quantity of food, and overall experience is amazing! I always get the berry salad with salmon. Trust me on this one, ADD THE SALMON (You can thank me later!). Don't forget to pick-up scones or macrons, because they are delicious as well! Overall, they made this review super easy, because they are doing incredible things at The Rising Creek Bakery! read more

I'm 88 years old, born in Independence ,Mo. My dad used to make salt rising bread. My brother wrote the recipe down for me but I lost everything in the Camp Fire in Paradise, California. Needless to say when I received my order from Rising Creek Bakery, the delivery truck wasn't even out of sight when I had a slice in the toaster. Best toast ever! read more

I ordered two loaves of the salt rising bread on Monday and received them on Friday. Bread was perfect and very fresh! I am sooooo happy to find this bakery. I grew up eating Salt Rising Bread in Southern California and suddenly it seem to disappear! I could find some frozen in Washington State, but it wasn't the same. I looked and looked for the bread in Florida, but no luck. I decided to look on the internet and lo and behold, there you were!!! The bread, I felt, was very inexpensive and so was the shipping. Next time I will order the three loaves. I was so happy to bite into a slice and be reminded of my childhood! The taste was exactly what I was looking for! read more

I'm so happy I made the trip here - wonderful bakery! I initially stopped for gas and then saw this place show up on my map. I grabbed coffee & some desserts to snack on for a long drive - glad I did!! Also grabbed a loaf of the rising salt bread and have been eating that at home ever since - wish I got another loaf!! read more

We have been RC customers for several years. Under the new ownership, the portions are smaller, the prices have slightly increased, and they no longer offer Specialty coffee. The owner stated that a new machine is too costly at this point. Also, when ordering my food the owner stated on the phone to another co-worker, "We are busy can they call back?" We looked forward to giving them another chance, but please take these comments in consideration. read more

Rising Creek Bakery - Lonely empty coffee cup with no food. - Bakeries Near Me - Morgantown, West Virginia

I had the Italian sandwich and a brownie with the fresh Orange Juice. The sandwich was about $10 bucks and worth it. Very good sandwich and was loaded up. Great bread. The OJ was good and was $5 which I expect from fresh on the spot. But as I left I wanted a bottle of water which they did not have any bottle water so I got a power aid. It was almost $3 for a drink from the cooler. Typically they are are about $1.50-$2 bucks anywhere else in the world. So that was a but expensive. read more

We stopped here on a road trip instead of Morgantown and we are so happy we came here. Delicious sandwiches with fresh and high quality ingredients. My husband had the Reuben and I had the Italian and they were both amazing. Highly recommend a homemade nutter butter after! Sadly this place doesn't come up on yelp when the filter is "restaurant", only shows up for "bakery".....just a note to owner to try and fix that because it's well worth stopping for a meal! read more

This is one cute bakery, their bread is exeptional. They have great breakfast options and their lunch items are just as good. Their omelette is filled with juicy veggies and their coffee is delicious. They have lots of bakery treats so you will have numerous options to choose from. And the owner is unbelievably nice, she was so involved with us and recommended some options, very nice person. I would give it more starts if I could! read more

I have looked all over for salt rising bread. I've tried making my own. Rising Creek Bakery makes the best salt rising bread...just how I remember it as a child in Kentucky. We love to take a slice and toast it with Irish butter for breakfast. read more

I'm a sucker for fresh baked bread being a baker myself, and if it's regional make that a double sucker. Love the salt rising bread angle and it is delicious. Always love the salt rising bread and tomato gravy. However, today's batch of tomato gravy was thick and lacked the normal flavor. Thought I'd pick up a cookie from the case and expected it to be nice and fresh since it is a bakery. Cookie was stale and tasted old (had to be several days old). I mentioned to the girl behind the counter that it was not fresh. She shrugged shoulders and said I don't know. Change of ownership has not been a good thing for this restaurant. Greatly disappointed. read more

Couldn't find anything to eat in Morgantown on a Subday morning. Decided to make the quick drive out to River Creek- good thing we did. Inviting atmosphere, professional kitchen. Great coffee. My wife had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich that was amazing- the onions really made it. I had tomato gravy, two eggs and toast. Also amazing once I got the eggs on the toast, and the gravy on top. Wish I lived nearby, I'm already craving that sandwich. read more

We are so excited to see how the new owner has taken the bakery back to it's origin. I had the best eggs Benedict and my husband had, what he said, was one of the best omelets he's ever had. Fantastic bakery items and food. Special ordered cheesecake and pies, and they were phenomenal.

This place reminded me of a little restaurant we went to in a town in Germany a couple of years ago. Driving through a little village and you kinda stable upon it I would imagine. I met some colleagues there for lunch. Everything is made fresh daily and the Ruben sandwich was amazingly well made and so large that I could not finish. I highly suggest this fantastic place if you find yourself even remotely close and hungry! read more

This food is amazing!!! We were pleasantly surprised with how quaint the setting was and the coffee was great!!

Death By Rising Creek - the headline read. Yea, these treats will certainly kill you - if not consumed in moderation - which is really difficult! I stop as often as possible for the Salt Rising Bread. And end up with such killers as their version of the nutter butter p-nut butter cookie. What a joyous diabetic delight! Stop if you can. There is the beaten path, off the beaten path, and then there is the Rising Creek. Find your way there if you dare! read more

Stopped here after seeing friends had stopped by and/or had talked about it and was curious. Very glad we stopped! The menu was a decent size and the bakery case was full of delicious looking options. The sitting area was small but plenty of outside options are available once the weather gets nicer. My husband tried the turkey cranberry sandwich which he said was delicious. I had the grilled cheese sandwich which was good but I should have gotten the Reuben. The salted bread was super good. The baked goods were where it was at though. My husband loved the homemade nutter butter and I had the new samoa bar. It was shortbread on the bottom with a coconut caramel on the top. Heavenly. Highly recommend!!!!!! read more

This place is super cozy, cute and extra delicious. Be sure to try the salt rising bread (SRB for those in the know). Smothered in tomato gravy, it's pretty stupendous. Sandwiches are killer, too. What an amazing place. The food quality is awesome. Found this great little gem when we were going on a hike at the Mason Dixon Historical Park. We have been back several times. Have enjoyed several of their sandwiches. And the goodies and cookies are of the cuff. We live in the south hills area of Pittsburgh and it takes about an hour to get there. It's just minutes off of I-79. Well worth the trip. This has become a regular trip for us. Do yourself a favor, check this place out. read more

Make it 22 perfect reviews. Awesome SRB!! Ok,I live in upstate any. My in laws family has been making salt rising bread for about 100 years. A passed down recipe. I personally hate it. But now a maker due to Susan Brown and her good friend. Anyways,I bought from Cuba Cheese in Ny. Biggest mistake I made for buying bread. I found Rising Creek Bakery offered it for sale and mail delivery. Great,I thought. This time I called to ask if the SRB had a nice smelly smell to it. The person on the phone told me she had to leave when they made it. I thought, awesome. I never stayed around my in laws when they got on the SRB kick. I ordered some,NOT A MISTAKE!! Smell and taste was all there. Opening the box brought smiles to all our faces. Even mine, since it was my money. SRB was around $5 a loaf. Cuba Cheese was only $3 and now I know why! No effort to make quality SRB like Rising Creek Bakery. I'm now making my own very smelly SRB. I get it right about 60% of the time. The starter is simple, and if it doesn't rise well and smell my kitchen and dinning room up,we start all over. I cannot thank Susan Brown and friends enough. They sent me a recipe to try. They emailed back pretty quickly several times while I was figuring it out. Thanks ladies. I love making a bread I cannot stand to smell or eat. Lol. No eating still, but appreciate that smell now. Richard Going to say moderate in price, the loaf is $5 something, but it takes time to make. So to me,it's not bad at all. read more
