A fantastic Starbucks!! So cozy and nice decor inside. The baristas were friendly and welcoming. I got a PSL (because I'm basic) and the pesto egg mozzarella breakfast sandwich. Slow so so so slow. Not the staffs fault they are just permanently understaffed. If you are not ordering ahead don't bother coming in.

I've been to this location before on a weekend, and the coffee and the service were much better. But this morning the Americano tasted off, was a weird/bitter taste. I don't know if the machine wasn't clean or what. And the barista, completed my order and then let it sit next to him while he completed three other drinks before he put my drink on the counter. This would have made sense in the morning rush if he wasn't within arms reach of the pickup counter or if he didn't have to run around to do those drinks. They need a better system if they're going to take online orders in the morning on a weekday. read more

I went to this place to use the bathroom. There was about 20 people in line. I went in the front and asked quickly for the bathroom key and this lady has the audacity to say "wait your turn and wait like everyone else" while I was about drop in brick in there toliot. I stand there, and say do you wanna have to clean up? And she just walks away. I had to dart into the restroom after someone just came out to save myself and the people in the Starbucks. This Starbucks is always busy with remote orders. I get it. But I stood at the counter for a full 3 minutes with four staff moving back and forth past me. Not one looked at me. Not one said, "we'll be with you in a minute," or "sorry, we have a lot of orders ahead of you," or ANYTHING. Terrible customer service. I did a mobile order around 4pm and by 4:07pm my order was ready to be picked up. It was fairly quiet which is always a pleasant surprise at this location. I like the fact that this Starbucks location changed their lids and now have a strawless lid which means no more plastic straws! Yay! But of course I forgot to put my reusable straw in my purse this morning.... So I had to waIt until I got home to drink my drinks. Oh well. When I stirred this and took a sip I did not taste any coffee what so ever. This was $9.15, with 2 shots of espresso and didn't get what I paid for. I wish I could say this is the first time the Melrose Starbucks has taken a ridiculously long time to fill my order, but it's become a pattern and I will never order from this location again. 25 minutes to make a Frappuccino?? Ridiculous. And while we sat there waiting and waiting I saw at least three drink orders have to be redone because they weren't what the customer had ordered. Maybe the prep time would be more reasonable if people made the drinks correct the first time. The store manager needs to do some soul searching and figure out a better way to run the store. I feel kind of silly reviewing a Starbucks, but here we go! I'd avoid this location. I went here after going to the oral surgeon and getting some stitches removed from a recent surgery, so I wasn't so hot on hot drinks. I ordered a venti iced green tea latte with almond milk. Drink came out hot. I got back in line, waited a bit, told them I had ordered it iced. Cashier (different one this time) peered at the order sticker on the drink, nodded and said "okay, I'll take care of this." After five minutes, they called my drink out. Hot drink again. At that point, I was going to be late for something, still didn't desire/could not drink a hot drink, and walked out of the establishment. I watched the baristas on the bar for a bit. They had two baristas on bar, one barista in the back taking care of the drip coffee, and two other people doing some sort of barbacking. The (head??) barista kept shouting at the other baristas "I'm not mad at you" over and over during my visit. Lots of crumbs everywhere. Just seemed like a mismanaged disaster. I have been in many Starbucks Dedham, Lynnfield and I am in a customer service business. They were horrible when I came in after 4:30. There were 6 people working in the store. The person with a beard waited on us and he was horrible... never said hello or welcome had a blank stare on his face. The others were not friendly and seemed disinterested. The Dedham and Lynnfield locations are excellent and should be commended for their friendliness and serving the customer well. Some interesting sounds coming from the back of the restaurant, moaning sounds not appropriate the whole restaurant heard it. I'm hoping to come back someday soon and to see happy, friendly team.....the bathrooms were gross and dirty too, there are 3 employees standing around talking. read more

Pick-up area is now away from seating. Covid took care of that issue. The overall Starbucks interior makeover to open up the space I like, it just feels clinically cold. Not this locations fault, it's a direction the company is taking. At least you don't trip over chairs and strollers anymore, but it's not a place to comfortably hang out and drink coffee (maybe this is on purpose?) Orders are usually correct. Just wish they would select when the order is ready in the mobile app. I live so close I don't head over until I'm notified since there's usually a big looming crowd in the morning. read more

This place is so dirty. There are food particles and beverage remnants everywhere, it really wouldn't hurt to just wipe down the place occasionally. I've been there three days in a row now and was hoping it was just a one off experience; Well, no, please applaud these folks for consistency. My little boy had to use the bathroom and they were so nasty (dried poop all over the seat). We just ended up leaving and he held it on the way home. I generally like Starbucks and want to like this one, but they need to get their act together fast. This Starbucks is pretty good. The only issue that I find with it is a fault of the location. Downtown Melrose can have very slow and backed up traffic at times. There is also limited parking. The staff can be a bit slow at times, but it's not really a big deal for me as I'm usually here on my free time during the weekends. I could see it being an issue for those who are in a hurry or between shifts at work. There is a lot of open space at the location, which is good. The only issue is the open space doesn't necessarily translate to as much seating as I'd expect. If you can find a spot to sit it's great to have the personal space, but I often find myself not able to take a seat. read more

I don't review things but this was just awful. Maybe I'm spoiled from mostly going to Starbucks in downtown Boston, but this was absolutely the slowest service ever. On top of that, I watched as my matcha latte shot out of the top of the blender. About half was left so they poured that into my cup and filled the rest with milk. I would've been fine waiting for it to be remade or even just taken what was left in the blender, but I wasn't even acknowledged. It tasted pretty much like nothing and the lid also didn't fit. I just threw it away because I was already later than I wanted to be after waiting. I could tell the staff were trying and the barista on cold bar kept panicking and it wasn't busy. Please either put more staff on to help them as they learn or help them learn to manage the line better. It's not fair to them because I'm sure they're yelled at all day. I can tell from the other reviews this is pretty common. read more

How long does it take 4+ employees to take orders and serve customers? Not sure, but this Starbucks is certainly challenging the average wait times for THE LONGEST. We went in and waited an exceptionally long period of time. So long, in fact, that people were storming out of the store. And, if you try on-the-go ordering, they have their menu so outdated it says everyday items are out of stock. This store needs some more training. I'm wracking my brain trying to understand why the owner of this location has yet to staff up. This is the SLOWEST, most inefficient Starbucks I have ever been in, and I've been to a lot. Every time I enter a Starbucks during the morning rush, they have 6-8 people behind the counter, and they're all moving at light speed. This one has 3-4, and the same person running the register is also making drinks as he/she takes orders. It's incredible! Not only do they not have enough staff, but the ones they have move at the pace of a snail. It is honestly the most frustrating experience every time I walk in that door. I only go there because it's the only one on my way into work. Please think about your customers and do something about the staffing situation... read more

This location is only receiving 3 stars because they serve Starbucks coffee. Otherwise I would give them 0 stars because there is always a line and the staff struggle to keep the line moving. If you have 45 minutes and no where to go then this location is for you. Otherwise I highly recommend driving a little further for quicker service. read more

UPDATE: It is now a year later from my original posting and the service is still awful! I went in today to get a coffee and sat down for a while. The coffee did not have enough ice so as my coffee dwindled, I went up and asked for some more ice in a cup. The older man behind the counter literally looked up and gave me a look of disdain, did not say a word and went back to what he was doing. Then a girl who was working back there said, "I can get that." It was as if I was completely inconveniencing him. I am so disconcerted about this Starbucks that I left angry! I have gone to this location a few times. I have been very disappointed every single time! The staff is NOT friendly at all. They've made me wait while goofing around or just what appeared to be cleaning behind the counter instead of serving. Just because I was the only person in line doesn't mean that I should be ignored and served without urgency. The only available table was dirty. I have been coming to this Starbucks for a couple of years and I have always had friendly and attentive service. Today, that was not the case. The older gentleman who took my order was very rude. I Order a hazelnut coffee. He poured me a hazelnut iced coffee. I felt I was polite enough when I told him I said coffee not an iced coffee. He snapped back at me and said "this is coffee" and just continued to be rude for the rest of my oder. The saving grace to this incident was the barista. She spoke to me and assured me that something would be done about how rude he was I just want to give her a big Thanks you she was great. I am not down with Starbucks lingo. I refuse to participate. This is America, speak English darnit. I do not know the difference between a frapachino and a mochachino. I do not want to learn. I just feel dirty ordering a tall, skinny, vanilla anything with extra whipped cream. Please give me a medium light, latte. Despite my refusal to embrace the Starbucks lingo, several of my friends nurse pretty severe caffeine addictions, and I find myself in Starbucks Melrose at least once a week lately. There is typically much confusion about my order due to my stubbornness and they handle it with grace and fun. The staff is super friendly and attentive. My friends feel as though Starbucks is their own personal chemistry lab, and order really complicated drinks not on the menu. The employees just roll with it. There's only so much you can write about a chain, so I'll focus on differences among them. Parking - overall negative - this location is on a main street (literally, main st.) and there's parking along the street but you'll almost never get a space. There is a small lot behind the buildings that you get to by taking the first right (looks like a little alley) directly next to the Starbucks. Sometimes you may even have difficulty parking there, but usually you can circle around and someone has left by the time you get back to it. Location - Melrose is beautiful, suburban and clean. The main street it's on is well lit and lined with many shops incase you feel like taking your drink to go and walking around. You'll see mostly young professionals and/or families with small children. Ambience - there is local artwork on the walls, photography or mixed media, it changes after a while. A fair amount of comfortable seating with tables. Outdoor seating yes... but only a table or two and they're right next to the door so not the best place if that's a priority for you. read more

This is a nice but older Starbucks which is about to get a re-fit. It's well managed by Liam and for the most part the baristas / staff are cheery and upbeat (Taylor, Zeus) but there are one or two who need to be more gracious to their patrons. Not everyone has the name tag visible so it's not always easy to know who's great and who's not. The other day I ordered a breakfast sandwich and there was a slight issue with the oven and the guy behind the counter was most apologetic and gave me and another customer a voucher towards a free drink (and quite a generous voucher at that). Probably the only con of this place is parking. Located on a busy street, yanno, Main St - parking is behind the building in a weird alleyway kind of place. But the street is thriving and the people are friendly so why not just take a stroll whether you're from Melrose, Malden, Stoneham, or I don't know, anywhere reasonably walking distance. The place is great, amazing vibes when you walk in with spacious seating and homey setting. Everyone is friendly and everyone just wants to be your friend. The baristas are friendly and overall, just a great place to be. Personal favorites are: caramel/hazelnut macchiato, any type of frap, and the refreshers. There's always a line, but it moves. I don't understand the negative reviews of the staff. It's a coffee shop. In fact it's the friendliest Starbucks I know of. This is one of the most poorly run stores I've ever been in to. The other reviews that mention the slow service are spot on. They have two registers but refuse to use both most mornings. The line can be out the door and they don't sense any urgency what-so-ever. I also have grown extremely tired of their constant rotating of their bold roast coffees. When a person is looking for a bold roast such as their French Roast, they aren't looking to experiment with lighter roasts. They're currently using their "Tribute roast" which tastes like watered down dunkin donuts coffee. So today, I asked if they had French press, the barista didn't know. (Great, way to know the product you're supposed to have at least some basic knowledge!) So she called to the back room and another staff member answered "why?, for fun?". ...I was in a coffee shop and this dope thinks it's odd to ask for French Roast? The whole reason I asked was because the website claims they have it. ?? The overall experince here is terrible. Fight for a parking space and wait forever to get a simple cup of coffee. After today's visit, I'd sooner drink from a puddle than visit that store ever again and it's in walking distance of my home. read more
