They say good help is hard to find... After visiting this store today, I agree. I was met with the most sour barista, who might have been having a bad month, I give him my order-he sighs loud enough for everyone to hear. Proceeded to berate me for not ordering it online. Tells me, it's much easier had you ordered this on line. So I tell him, "well I didn't since I just got the order. I get an eye roll and a what size? There are no sizes listed. Then "we don't have these sandwiches " No apology, no suggestions. Then another barista come to "help" him, only to give me an additional dose of attitude. She says, "this is going to take a long time to make". So I tell them "I can go to another place if you like". No answer The barista, Derek, continues to complain about the order, it's too large, it's too complicated... 8 drinks and 4 sandwiches. I genuinely felt like they didn't need my business, so to reward them, I will never go there again. Neither will my clients-after hearing the drama I had to endure. Whenever we visit Maui (go back "home" for me) this is our "go to" Starbucks. The Upcountry Starbucks adjacent to Foodland is closest to my parents hale; but, we drive down the hill to go to this location since we are always downtown anyway. This Starbucks is much better than the Maui Marketplace location down the street, IMO. The baristas are friendlier and make an effort to make the drinks correctly. The downside is that they all use paper cups (except the airport and hotel locations) so none of the drinks are aesthetically pleasing. If I am paying ~$7.00+ per drink; I want my drinks to look "purty" and appealing. read more

Visited Hookele this afternoon, it's really slow in the inside but everyone was too occupied getting the order f4om drive thru. When I walked in it took a while before she took my order. I had a really disappointing experience today (June 25th) around 12 noon at the Starbucks drive-thru in Maui. I ordered a coffee, and shortly after, my 12-year-old daughter urgently needed to use the restroom. I parked and went inside with her, only to find out the bathroom required a code. When I asked the tall young cashier for the code, he refused to give it to me and said I had to place an order inside the store to access the restroom--even though I had literally just purchased something moments earlier in the drive-thru. I was shocked. Denying a child access to a restroom over something like this is absurd and completely lacking in compassion. Starbucks is supposed to be known for its customer service, but this experience said otherwise. Very disappointing. Do better, Starbucks. read more

I've recently been on a Starbucks kick and have been going to various Starbucks in the morning for my cup of Joe. Yesterday while I was working on Maui, I decided to stop by this Starbucks located in the Puunene Shopping Center, as I was doing a job at a bank that was near by. What can I say about this Starbucks? I thought this Starbucks was new looking, clean, and the inside decor of the coffee shop was very modern looking. As I entered the coffee shop, I basically came in here for a large dark roast coffee........... and since I was getting my coffee on, I just so happened to see a coffee cake that was on display, so I told the clerk to throw that coffee cake in with my order. Service - Fast friendly service, and the clerk even asked me if I would like to have my coffee cake heated up. NICE! I thought it was very thoughtful of the clerk to ask. Joe - When I come to Starbucks, I know exactly what I'm gonna get...........I'm not a fancy coffee drinker, I just like my plain ol' hot dark roasted coffee..........simple, and that's how I like to get my morning started. I'm not into Latte, Cold Brews, Ice Coffee, or Espresso's, but if you're into that............Starbucks probably has something for everyone. When hungry, it's nice to know that Starbucks has sandwiches, cookies, & pastries here. As for my Coffee Cake.........it was just okay, I've had better at other places, but of course I didn't come here to eat coffee cake, I just ended up getting it because it was displayed so nicely, and it didn't hurt to have something go with my dark roasted coffee. One nice thing about this particular Starbucks location at the Puunene Shopping Center.............if you're too lazy to get out of your car, this coffee house location actually has a drive though! Was in need of a strong pick me up after my shift. Super tired and needing to jump into studying, I came in really jumbled and very indecisive about what to give me a boost. Skye, the lovely gentleman at the counter, was absolutely wonderful!! He noticed that I was puzzled and gave me recommendations! The Iced Chestnut Latte that he recommended was fantastic - got me through my long study session! The overall ambiance and customer service was great coming from all of the workers, but Skye really stood out and made my day. 5+ stars indeed! read more

Needed a coffee shop to post up in & get some work done. This is the shiny new Starbucks in town & they were open on a Sunday evening, so I stopped by to check out the new digs. Walked in and my oh my, this Starbucks is so different than all the other locations & I mean that in a good way. The interior is so chic and modern; a total eyepleaser. At the center of it all is a communal, wood table that seats 8 and other tables and chairs are dispersed around and to the side it. Outside seating is available on their outdoor patio as well. Although I liked the aesthetics of it all, after sitting down for HOURS, I did wish they had at least a few chairs with comfy cushions. The wooden chairs started to get uncomfortable, but that's probably what they intended. Didn't deter me from staying for as long as I did though and thanks to their free wi-fi, I got a bunch of work done without distractions. So why 3 stars? I came here for the coffee first and foremost and that was a bust. I ordered my usual white chocolate mocha frappuccino and although I got it really fast (there was no on else in line), it didn't taste that great... quite terrible actually. It was really icey and not much flavor. I would've rather waited longer for my drink to be made right vs. fast but mediocre. Alas, I had work to do and didn't have time to waste, so I still drank my drink, but definitely wasn't in a hurry to finish it off. I'll still be back though just because of the convenience and the fact that they are open really late for a Sunday evening (10pm)! Big plus. Maui's newest Starbucks with drive thru opened in the Puunene Shopping Center. ATMOSPHERE: The inside is quaint & modern. A high top communal table sits in the middle with surrounding low tops and unprotected outdoor tables. FACT: Kahului was supposed to have a Starbucks with drive thru on Puunene next door to McD's years ago but plans fell through. Now, an Auto Zone is taking its place. OVERALL: I'm not a Starbucks addict but I do have a few favorites especially around the holidays. Having a drive thru store is a terrific idea as you don't need to get out of your vehicle. read more

I get it. New place still working out it's kinks. Great interior decor, looks kinda like the one from Grand Canyon. Anyway, I'm leaving a review hoping it'll catch their attention. I've rolled through the drive through many times to be rejected of matcha or the morning muffin. Half the time if they do, they don't fill my cup all the way or they forget to put caramel walls. Or my iced green tea latte with caramel walls is too foamy. I'd rather wait in line inside target Starbucks and get a more decent one. Couple few workers outweigh the few rude ones. Definitely my go to Starbucks when I'm in the area. I love how fast the service is and how friendly the staff is. The fact that I don't have to get out of the car is a bonus. One problem I do have with this location is that there lattes don't have the same flavor as compared to other locations which is weird. When I come here I always get there tea and blended drinks. Most people are used to going to the other "Starbucks" in this same shopping complex which is the one in Target (which we all know isn't a REAL Starbucks since you can't use your Starbucks card and the people who go to Starbucks in Target just buy non-coffee Frappuccinos anyway ). Anywhoo, so I know this place is brand spanking new but it is nice. I usually use the Starbucks app anyway so that I don't need to wait but his place seems well staffed anyway. This is the only Starbucks on Maui (that I know of) that has nitro cold brew. I like this new Starbucks because it's clean and seems to have an ergonomic set up inside. Used the drive through this afternoon to grab a coffee and a puppaccino after shopping at Lowes across the road. I use this Starbucks as it is the place to grab a drink on shopping expeditions since it is perfectly placed for the big box shops on Maui. Drive through usually gets everything right first time and are very friendly. If you walk in they are just as friendly. I sometimes sit outside with my pups on the patio, keeping the feral chickens company, under the shade of the umbrellas. If I'm pupless I sit inside, however all the chairs inside and outside are really uncomfortable, so I don't sit for long! read more

Frequented this spot many times mainly because it's on my way to work. The storefront is clean and the employees are friendly. They have a wonderful outdoor patio area to enjoy on a nice breezy sunny day. And of course you can opt to stay indoors to enjoy the air conditioning. The open floor format is has a much better flow than other Starbucks establishments I've been to. If you don't feel like leaving your car, they do offer their drive thru service. I've used this quite a few times and have no complaints. No fudged orders and the line moves quite quickly. I've mainly utilized the mobile service and there was only a few times that I can count on one hand when I've had to wait for my order. 98% of the time my order is waiting for me. ** I LOVE THAT APP ** From their fraps to lattes, bakery items and cold brew on tap. The outside seating area is nice but sometimes it gets way to windy, but that's just the location overall. The drive thru is pretty fast even when it's during the morning rush. The customer service was on point, they greeted every person who came in, the barista was quick and thorough and the drinks tasted great and were up to quality standards, also the counters were clean. I've been to many different Starbucks, this easily made it into my my top 5 stores.
