I like this Starbuck's. The Magnificent Mile location is convenient for neighbors and business workers like myself. Since it is on a corner there are wrap around windows, which offer a ton of natural light. They have a few tables for outside sipping with trees for a bit of shade. Inside, the store is clean and well maintained. The counters are always wiped down which I appreciate very much. The staff is always friendly. The one problem I have is the lack of urgency and the missing appreciation for the art of efficiency. I want the neighbors to know that the staff works hard here to serve you. So when you get mad that your complicated drink that was actually made correctly, but you say is missing Stevia? Or a certain milk option. Make it again? Or that they made the wrong drink when you clearly made the wrong order? Note that they always remake your drink for you. Don't get mad at them. Also for the newbies there is going to be a learning curve as with any new job. I've lived next door for 10 years and I've seen how the staff gets treated. And they are respectful. This is a great location...yea yea yea I know its a chain. There are other Starbucks within 2 miles of this place that are really really busy and it takes 20 minus to get a drink, or are filled with bums and other eclectic individuals that have not showered in at least two weeks but this is not one of them. This one is run really well. One could have a debate if it is a scene or not. Who cares. It's a nice place with a awesome staff. They took a large cupboard out that was in middle of the store in the last two months so it looks like there is more room. I'm a little confused on the small portions of bakery goods otherwise known as La Boulange. I think the portions are small so that you order more of them. Genius on their part. This is THE WORST STARBUCKS I have ever been too. The baristas SUCK major donkey balls and those are pretty HUGE! But for starters as I referenced before they put your drink so far back you can't reach it then get mad when you reach to get it like wtf are you supposed to do they are not pushing your drink forward so you can get it. Then there are a number non service dogs in the place and she tells me I can't bring my dog in the place didn't ask me IF it was a service dog but just felt to say something because he's a big dog NOT to mention I never been told he couldn't come into ANY Starbucks including that one were I have been already over 4xs. I've been living across the street from this location for more than 5 years. I use to go here daily but as of the last few months-year, I have been highly disappointed with all my orders. I'm not sure if this location has new management or has gone through changes but the QUALITY of the beverages has SIGNIFICANTLY DECLINED! Usually drinks are very watered down and just not tasty. Today I ordered and iced matcha latte I even added more scoops to my order and it was still disappointing and Tasteless. Years ago Starbucks had really great classic scones. Just walked in for a blueberry scone. Smaller, square cakeu texture with way too much oil or butter in it. This is in a really convenient location just north of Chicago Ave. There was not anything very distinctive about this Starbucks...just that it's a Starbucks and they serve HIGH POWERED COFFEE!!!! Had a really nice ambiance, very quick service and the normal starbucks taste. read more

This is by far the best Starbucks I've ever been to (and I've been to many)! I live right by here, so I pretty much go there everyday. They know me by first name basis and know exactly what drink I want. They have such amazing customer service that I compare other Starbucks to this one! This Starbucks definitely has the right people working, you can tell that they love working there and are totally focused on what Starbucks stands for! I'm moving in a couple months, and I'm pretty sad that this won't be the nearest Starbucks to me. Until then, I'll be enjoying my daily visits. I live next door so I guess you can say I am very familiar with this Starbucks. *** Not all Starbucks are created equal! *** This location perplexes me and I really want to like it for the convenience factor, but I can't. I think they are either understaffed or inefficient. It is very common that the cashier is also the one making the drinks which just slows everything down. Also, they don't have set hours. They close whenever they deem it's "not busy" so I've seen them close as early as 7 pm. Honestly, if you can walk 2 extra blocks, you can find a better Starbucks. Or if you're feeling really fancy, go across the street to the other coffee/bakery store. read more

This Starbucks is right downtown, close to Michigan Avenue. The staff are very friendly, and service was prompt. The best part was sitting near the window, doing some people watching. We were excited about the remodel of our favorite neighborhood Starbucks but highly disappointed in the result. The staff is as wonderful as always but the atmosphere is stark and noisy. The music is grates on your nerves and is too loud. The acoustics cause the equipment to echo throughout. There is far less seating and a design that gives you the feeling they want you in and out. Looks like we will now cross the street to Le Pain Quotidien for our daily outings we use to come here everyday. So sad read more

This location is a fine example of how one store sticks out in a chain of sleepy clones. The coffee is always good as well as the baked goods. The menu board is a little hard to see and the seating is not really all that cozy. The customer service here is excellent and very fast even when the line is long. I go here about 10-15 times a month and have never had a problem. To all you oh so haters of Starbucks: get over yourselves. Guess what? Stop bitching about having to pay premium and go where you profess the coffee always to be better. Is it better because it's cheaper? Most of you don't know an arabica bean from a robusta bean. Arrived on A Freezing Sunday morning, lobby was packed, bar was congested and the espresso machines were churning.. The line was minimal, and I was pleasantly Greeted by three coffee masters. Maddy, Tyler and the GM Kat... Very friendly crew that knew what they were doing. Tyler shouted out the drinks at the bar with confidence. Only a couple people in front of me, I received my drink three min after ordering. Not bad at all for a Triple Grande Soy Caramel macchiato. This is right around the corner from one of my doctor's offices, so my parents and I usually make this a group trip and hang out at Starbucks until my appt. time. Even though I'm a pretty seasoned Starbucks person, I always forget what I want when I go there. Being with my mom is more confusing as she has no idea what a "venti" is, nor does she understand any of the lingo. Therefore, her and I were complete tourists trying to figure out what to order. However, Kenyarah (the cashier) was such a sweetheart, patiently waiting for me to translate Starbuckeese to my mom while a line of people started to build up. I quite like this location -they seem to prepare our order more quickly than other locations I've visited. I've never waited for more than 2-3 minutes! I like this location about as much as a CTA train station: I go, get what I need, and I don't linger. If I stay longer than five minutes, I'll get one of the following: A stroller runs over my foot, a homeless guy plops down beside me and asks me for a bite/drink, I get an earful from the nearby table full of gossipy nannies. I dislike Starbucks coffee. There, I said it. I've always disliked it. I'm not a commercialism anarchist, franchises have no emotional impact on me whatsoever. About every couple of months, say six, I am desperate for a coffee and find myself in line cringing after she says my total for a regular coffee. I take a sip, and as usual, it tastes like over-roasted sludge that has been sitting in a damp moldy warehouse. Then again six months later, I find myself there again and cursing my decision after the first sip of bitter crap. It's really sad that this country doesn't know what good coffee tastes like because they have been drinking this for the past 10 years. Take yourself to McDonalds, Seattle's Best, Dunkin' Donuts, Einstein Bagel's, or any of the other establishments in the city that offer way better, cheaper and tastier coffee. read more
