I frequent here often because I work at UNC and usually order ahead but there is no option for hot water on the app when I want to bring my own tea. Today however, I only wanted hot water. After standing in line for about 5 minutes, one of the baristas calls out that there will be a 40 minute wait for certain items. Drip coffee and food being mentioned. Once again, I just wanted hot water. So I asked, to clarify, and one of the baristas had an attitude while answering my question. First of all, I asked just to clarify. I understand yall are busy, but there was no reason to come at me that way and while doing so saying that hot water is the same as drip coffee. I don't drink drip coffee. So how am I suppose to know that? Completely turned me off from this location and the service provided. If it's too busy after the holidays and there aren't enough employees, just shut the place down and call it a day rather than taking your frustrations out on customers. read more

Wow this place is hands down one of the busiest Starbucks I have ever been to. I was in the hospital with my son for almost a week and came down here every morning. There were at least 20 finished coffee cups in the counter at all time. This crew was pumping them out as fast as they could. I am truly impressed at the production of these workers. 5 stars for the work ethic. My drink was messed up one time, but they happily fixed it and did so quickly. This is the Starbucks for UNC Medical Center / UNC Hospitals. It's located in between the Neurosciences Hospital and the Cancer Hospital, conveniently-situated where the main entrances to the hospital complex are, in/near the lobby. My wife, who regularly works at UNC Hospitals, is a regular here. Because it's open 24/7, it's a great place for my wife to come during overnight shifts for food and caffeine. My wife's favorite caffeinated beverages to order are the Caffe Americano and Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew. My wife likes the Caffe Americano because it's smooth and doesn't taste burnt like Starbucks' drip coffee. She likes the Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew because it's not too sweet and she enjoys the various textures of the cream and foam. It's smooth, refreshing, cold, and strong. In general, cold brew coffee tastes more complex than drip coffee. I came to this Starbucks with my wife and we got a couple Pink Drinks which are Strawberry Acai Refreshers Beverages with coconut milk added. They were delicious. Sweet, but not overly sweet, a little bit creamy, icy cold, and refreshing. I recommend it. We also got a couple Evolution Fresh bottled juices - one Orange and one Organic Super Fruit Greens. Both were terrific. The juices were cold-pressed, organic, and 100% juice with no added sweeteners or artificial flavors. They were healthy and nutritious and tasted great. The green juice contained orange, mango, pineapple, cucumber, spinach, romaine, and kale. Good stuff. If you use FreedomPay, you get a discount on most food and beverage at Starbucks. FreedomPay is an optional cashless payment system used at UNC Hospitals' cafes. One of my wife's favorite things to get at this Starbucks, because of the FreedomPay discount, are the sous vide egg bites. She rarely gets the egg bites, otherwise. OK, yes I know it's a Starbucks. But this actually quite sizable location of Starbucks nestled in the UNC Hospitals complex between the North Carolina Women's Hospital and NC Cancer Hospital is like a wonderful oasis of comfort for patients and visitors. Plenty of seating area, nice and clean, and from the times I have visited them the service has been friendly and quick for a Starbucks type drink (made to order). They take Starbucks cards like all other locations, and have an ATM station just at the entrance as well. But the bonus that makes me give them five stars here is that I am told they are open 24/7 to serve the hospital complex. I think that rocks, because at a medical center you want that kind of Starbucks comfort at any time the need strikes. Bottom line: Wonderful, clean, and spacious Starbucks to serve the UNC Hospitals complex. Good drinks and service as you would expect. The aspect I am told they are 24/7 makes it five star material. What makes this 24 hour Starbucks stand out is the great energy from the staff! It really makes your morning to have such great staff even after waiting in their long morning lines. The only thing I wish this starbucks had is a separate line for people who are not getting drinks. This may be a lot to ask for since other locations don't do this normally, so 5 stars from me! Try the upstairs for a quiet study space. However, the lighting is very dim so not the best place to read. But love this place overall! read more

This Starbucks is a welcomed little gem if you're at the hospital! Nestled between the Women's Center and the Cancer Center, it's easy to get to from most areas of the hospital. The inside is fairly standard. There's a decent amount of seating and the customer flow is ok. They are staffed well and seemed to get through the orders quicker than I've seen at other Starbucks. To me, the best part was the courtyard. I'm pretty sure it's actually part of the hospital but, there is a nice outside seating area adjacent to the store. Tons of seating including tables and umbrellas. It's a great place to enjoy your favorite beverage, snack, and the beautiful Chapel Hill weather! read more

Have been going here the past few days during our hospital stay and I have never been treated more rudely by baristas before. They act like they don't want to be at work and get irritated when you get anything extra. Drinks often come out wrong and when asked to fix it they are just as rude. I'm a huge fan of this Starbucks. First things first.... they are open 24 hours! Say whaaa???? I come here a lot (way too much) and the staff is always sooooooooo friendly. My drinks are always made to perfection and in the rare case I try something new and am not fond of it they don't give me a hard time about making it over. I'm a Starbucks snob so my orders are always customized (obnoxious) and they don't care about that either. There is plenty of inside seating including an upstairs lounging area although most people grab and go or sit outside (weather permitting) because it's open and beautiful out there. They have everything any other Starbucks has, new flavors, snacks, bottled drinks, etc. You can collect stars here but cannot redeem them and they do not participate in any of those promotions giving out free food/drinks (understandably so). The line is 9.8 times out of ten going to be loooong but they get people in and out and move impressively quick under the circumstances. I mean you either like Starbucks or you don't so this basically comes done to preparation and customer service and they have consistently been A1. I don't look at reviews when [if] visiting these places because typically you know what to expect. However, the Starbucks at UNC's hospital needs some recognition. Whether you're at the hospital for work, a happy occasion or a somber visit, it's good to know that there's a place to stop to 'get away' from the hospital setting. Although hospitals server many purposes, they are not a place that many people ever want to visit. This Starbucks is a great place to get the drinks that you expect while getting away from the long hallways, florescent lights and constant beeping. So, whether the waiting room is full and you're looking for a place to get away or you just need something that feels normal, just know that there's a cozy little Starbucks tucked away on the first floor of the hospital, right next to the cancer unit. They've got all the treats [drinks, sweet, sodas and waters] that a typical location has with a lovely courtyard outside. Free wifi, wall outlets and comfy [non-hospital] chairs to take a breath in. They've even got an upstairs area for long-term sitters, although note that it's not open on the weekends. Also, if you come here on the weekends, it's much quieter and slower. During the week, especially in the mornings, you'll have a 24-7 line getting drinks [everyone from patients, physicians, nurses, techs, the list goes on and on]. Plus, they do a great job getting people through the line, with three registers opened and fast drinks. It's everything you get from a typical Starbucks but you get the hospital location. read more

Another Starbucks. This one is located in UNC's Cancer Center and is one of the best that I've been to. When you end up getting stuck waiting at a hospital, you need caffeine--for both to stay alert and to relieve stress. This Starbucks is there for you 24/7. And don't be frustrated at the super long line that is almost always there--it moves quick. The staff here is the most efficient I have ever encountered. Other than that, it's your typical Starbucks. Free WiFi, nice seating area, and all the goodies you can find at a solo Starbucks location. Not totally related to this location, but there are rooms available if you go up the stairs located within the Starbucks that you can apparently reserve for meetings...which may be something to look into since there's a lot of chattering going on. read more

It was nice to discover a Starbucks nestled between the Women's and Cancer hospitals at UNC Hospital. Same great coffee choices, snacks and mugs found at other Starbucks. There was ample seating both down as well as upstairs. There is plenty of outlets near tables for charging electronics. The shop opens out into an outdoor courtyard with seating that must be nice during warm weather. My only complaint is that the music playing was loud and annoying. read more

Not only did they forget to give me part of my order, but when I asked for it, the lady at the cash register was so entirely rude, she refused to admit her mistake and made me order it again (AND PAY). If that wasn't bad enough, while waiting for my drink (that only felt like I was there for eternity) THE BARISTA ANSWERED HIS PHONE CALL! I have never seen such a horrid customer service by their employee Amber in the UNC Starbucks location...there was a man asking his friend "hey what is that" in reference to the drink the man had ordered. He replied "I don't know it never has looked like this before." Mind you he didn't say a word to the person that had prepared it, her name is Amber. Miss Amber then spun around interrupting their conversation and said in a snappy tone "well that's not what you ordered". She then carried on and displayed the most hostile rude unprofessional conduct I have ever seen in any type of customer service...continuing to verbally attack this customer who wasn't even speaking to her or even about her...he simply answered a question someone had asked him. Amber continued to on to he point that I had to get off my phone while receiving information on a something rather important That is how disruptive Miss Amber was...This continued on for about 8 min and I had to to intervene because it was that point people were backing away from he sales counter. I don't work for Starbucks but Miss Amber was causing a hostile scene...the man asked to speak to the manager and Amber even disregarded the manager even yelling at the manager in front of customers...if I ever did that at my job I would be immediately terminated and most likely escorted off the property....I have never had a problem at the UNC Starbucks and it was not the business itself but one terrible horrid employee that ruined everything that night....this is all while sick patients family members watched and listed to her display....disgusting read more

Fantastic Starbucks location! Large enough to accommodate UNC Hospital and wait time for such a busy location is quite short! Even though it's in the hospital it offers a full menu including food items. Drinks have always been prepared with excellence. Awesome for both employees and patients to take advantage of. read more

I used to frequent this location when I worked at the hospital. It's a great break spot and sort due those just visiting...

I only ever come to this Starbucks in the early Morning hrs around 12am-2am so I can only rate them off their night shift crew. my fiancee works 3rd shift at the hospital. I'll come and visit him on his break and sometimes we get coffee together. The employees, including the manager, are always so rude to me and him! You would think with all the stress and restlessness of a hospital they would have a friendly staff to work their coffee shop. He has stopped going and just drinks the coffee that is provided on his floor. They really need to get friendlier people on their night shift read more
