This wonderland is where trees meet really good Carrboro coffee and baked goods! We had: best herbal tea, Ginger soda Cold Brew- both refreshing and oh so good! And a gluten free + vegan macaron that tasted like coconut, plus banana with chocolate chips! A perfect pairing. If the drink and food aren't worth my 1.5 hour drive, throw in a beautiful backdrop setting of forest, trees, birds, a couple bunnies, dogs and their owners. Along with some coffee lovers who attended the Caffeine Crawl. Cafe Driade was stop 2 on the route. And, it'd definitely worth the drive! We already have plans to return. I didn't have the best experience here. Staff was very serious about the line formation. Initially I ordered a drink that was not available but on the menu. Then My drink was made incorrectly and when I asked for a remake it was not welcomed kindly. The outside seating is ample and gorgeous and fantastic, great place to meet and catch up. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in the Durham / Chapel Hill Area, and a space I think is really quite unique to this are (have never seen something similar elsewhere). The coffee shop itself is a tiny building in the middle of a beautiful wooded area, with lots of seating scattered throughout the trees & other garden area (limited seating inside, so come when the weather is good). There are also stairs down the back to another patio to sit on a little way down the hill, and then little paths along the hill which eventually connect up with a walking path at the bottom. It's a lovely place to come for a date or meet up with a friend--you can sit and drink your coffee for a bit, and then explore a bit. I've always come here to sit & sketch before, or just watch everyone's dogs. The coffee itself is well-crafted and delicious. I have come here many times, and my favorite drink is the ginger beer cold brew (so yummy). Their americano is also excellent, however. I have also enjoyed the Brown Sugar latte & Harvest Spice Latte when I am looking for something a bit sweeter. They've also got a yummy vegan (and gluten free) pumpkin bar which is big enough to share. On weekends, during midmorning and early afternoon, it can get quite busy, often with a line out the door (you may need to wait for 15-20 minutes, and sometimes it can be hard to find a place to park). However, if you do find a spot to park & are willing to wait, I have never had any trouble finding a place to sit (there's just SO many tables!). read more

Nestled within a beautiful wooded area, this is such a special coffee spot that is well worth the drive from Durham. I got the Harvest Spice Latte hot (2 shots espresso, steamed milk & house-made pumpkin spice syrup made with real pumpkin puree, raw sugar & pumpkin spice) and a Morning Bun. The latte was tasty admittedly, but not sure I got the pumpkin essence clearly. I was impressed that even with the bun not being warm, it was still flaky and enjoyable. There's a good amount of parking, lots of outdoor seating, some inside seating. Definitely recommend walking on the adjacent trail afterwards. I've been wanting to come here for a while and my first time did not disappoint! The location is as beautiful as everyone makes it out to be and they have plenty of seating options. I love that the cafe connects to walking trails, and my friends and I had a lot of fun exploring the area. Ordering did take a bit of time because there was a long line and their mobile ordering was down, but the baristas were efficient and the drinks came out quick. The workers were friendly, calm, and in good spirits despite the never ending line, so kudos to them for that. l ordered an almond milk latte and a vegan pumpkin bar which were both delicious and paired together perfectly. Cute location, love that it's right off a walking trail and you can meet up with people for coffee and a walk. There's also a small parking lot that's relatively private. My biggest gripe is MAN it is expensive. $6 for a latte or similar coffee seems a lot. So I opted for a hot chocolate which was ok- for like $4 instead. The baristas are always nice and pretty quick but I can't come here too often because it's just expensive. I'll have to look into $4-5 options for coffee next time. They have a great back seating area with a pretty forest view so it's really nice to sit and sip or take your drink and walk! read more

My first visit was quite disappointing and disturbing. The atmosphere is charming and unique. BUT a barista, (description for proper identification- a young female, small in stature with a shaved head under her uniform cap) is aggressively hostile. After ordering at the indoor counter by another pleasant Staff member who gave me my pastry and told me the drink would be picked up outside, with no other instructions, it was brought by the aforementioned bitter barista and in this case, plopped with a resentment, at a bare plastic table with no lids, no sugar, creamers, stirring sticks, anything but right around the corner from it, inside by the actual counter are vessels with various items powders squeeze bottles with syrup, no signage, just various containers. I picked up the syrup bottle to put the sweetener in my coffee. When I put it down, she grabbed it from the aggressively from that table and made a point of slamming it down behind another counter. I said to her after tasting my decaf that I wasn't finished with it she said "that's not a station". I said it looks like it and she said "yeah it's not" and when I asked where when we get those things, she flipped me off because told her , "you could be helpful but you're not". Her response was to flip me off. The coffee may be good , but the service is definitely not. Looks like Management needs HR to step in. read more

Pretty cool place that's tucked into a hillside with outdoor seating. The inside is small with just a few places to sit. The menu is not overly large and complex but has enough drinks, they also have pastries/food (however there was no food when we went, maybe they only have a small amount per day?) the coffee/drinks we got were decent, I'd like to try the hot coffee next time. Beautiful hidden spot with great views, and connected to a trail in the back. Pet friendly spot. First time coming here. I ordered a latte with a chocolate croissant. They have Carrboro Coffee for sale here as well. Service was friendly and fast. Plenty of space to sit outdoors and a bit smaller inside, but it had tables as well. The sugar, water, and extras like napkins, etc are all outside in the back, which is great because it makes you explore their beautiful location and the woods. That's also where the trail is located. I did venture down the trail to a paved path and asked walkers where did the trail go to. They said 2.5 miles to Umstead Park and a short distance to the Community Center. I honestly buy a cappuccino here, because they have never messed it up once. It's always strong and good and flavorful. There are a few other places I like to go to, but the consistency isn't always 100%. It's usually about 80% at best. I only order cappuccinos and Without fail they make it wonderful. Then there is the outdoor seating/ambience of this place, and it is well known that there are a few like it. A lot of walking trails and random forest-based seating arrangements make this quite a lovely spot to enjoy one's coffee experience. My only gripe would be the restrooms. They could do with a few more. Overall, wonderful place for coffee. Oh, another gripe, though the coffee does take a good 20 minutes to make, which is weird. read more

Overpriced for what it is. It was absolutely freezing in there with temperatures in the 40s outside. Only one of the heaters in the plastic (!) enclosed space outside was working, so that was not an alternative. Four staff behind the counter, chitchatting, with at least one of them having an attitude: No obvious spot to put my empty cup, which I did not just want to leave on the table. I put it at the table next to the counter and she snapped that the bussing station was actually outside. Seriously!? I have to take my cup, walk out the back door, and put it there somewhere? And, guess what? She grabbed my cup and put it behind the counter, which was a shorter way for cup to travel. When I said, that wasn't obvious, she quipped so that I "would know next time". I doubt there will be a next time. At those prices, staff could actually be friendlier. they also wanted to charge me $1 for a tiny pump of syrup. No, thank you! There's a little shop you can order from and once you get your drinks you can find a secluded table along a little nature train surrounded by beautiful trees absolutely engulfed in nature. I saw people on dates, people with their dogs, and people studying and it was just such a cute vibe I wanna take Radar here. I came with two friends on a weekday morning after hearing great things about this cafe. Finding the building was a bit challenging since it's hidden away, but it only added to its charm. I ordered the brown sugar oat milk latte and one of my friends ordered the pink matcha latte (hot). The brown sugar oat latte was delicious - but I added a little simple syrup because I like things sweet. The pink matcha latte was very cute in presentation and tasted slightly sweet and tangy. This cute cafe is seated off of Franklin st and nestled in the forest. I ordered the brown sugar oat latte iced and it was delicious! However, it was $7.48 for 12oz and that was prior to tipping. It was definitely on the pricier end even for chapel hill. For visitors, I would say definitely check out the Bolin creek greenway trail that's behind the cafe it's a nice place to take a walk with your coffee. Or even to read a good book. read more

This is more expensive than I would expect to pay in California, except you're in the woods in North Carolina, not on the beach of Malibu about to enjoy some lobster. If I want just as good quality I go to gray squirrel, also cheaper slightly further away. If I could invest in them I would because their profit margins are probably exorbitant. There is some seating available inside but the outdoor area is truly superb with benches, tables and chairs scattered all around. This place is amazing! I love their coffee beans and the oat milk that they serve. They had lots of different varieties but the thing that really blew me away was the location. They are connected to the Greenway so we were able to get a drink and they had a wonderful path to access the greenway and so we were able to walk and talk and make an event out of just getting coffee. Everyone was amazing when we were getting our coffee drinks and it was super fast. There were multiple different sections of the building so you could sit outside or inside or in an in between room. Came here with my wife a few weeks back and really enjoyed my beverage! We arrived at Driade in the early morning so we could grab some caffeine before heading out for the day. Unfortunately we were a little TOO early because it was still closed when we arrived, but we only had to sit around for a few minutes before they undid the rope guarding the entrance and let us in :) It was a cold day, so I was happy to see that they had heaters available for the outdoor space. Granted, it was still a little chilly, but maybe the heaters hadn't fully booted up yet. The indoor area was still closed to the public when we went (rules related to COVID safety, I believe - I imagine this restriction will go away in the near future if it's not already gone) so we huddled under the heat and waited for our beverages. It didn't take too long before our drinks were brought out to us, and we were very pleased with them! My wife absolutely loved her latte (she described it as the best she's ever had - pretty high praise!) and I really enjoyed my matcha latte as well. I wandered around a bit and noticed that there's a really cool trail (and beautiful view!) at the back of the building, so I may go exploring down there if I'm in the area again. I contemplated buying a t-shirt but it was a little expensive ($20) and I wasn't a huge fan of the design. Overall, would definitely come back! read more
