If you've never heard of Starbread or had senorita bread before, you're missing out. Truly. You probably don't have any Filipino friends to put you on or aren't from the Bay Area, but I'm here to let you in on this little secret. Senorita bread originated here in the Bay Area as a Filipino pastry from a family who first opened up shop in Vallejo and it is a simple but probably the most delicious pastry to ever exist or end up on the potluck table at work or with friends. It's just baked bread coated in a warm buttery sugar glaze. I grew up in Newark across the bay and I had one of the few locations right in my hometown so I always got myself a box. I was devastated when it closed during the pandemic but I am no longer sad after moving up to south city and having a Starbread bakery close by again. The bakery is no trills like your typical Asian bakeries (think Chinese or Vietnamese) and they do have other things you can buy but the main thing is **senorita bread** 10 is plenty but 20 is $12 and is a steal. You come in to order and it comes out piping hot 1-5 minutes later. Definitely grab it for your next potluck with friends or solo dolo at home. I've had Starbread before in my hometown and was super excited to introduce my friends to it when we saw a spot in Pacifica. Came around 5:45pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty as expected. There weren't many pastries left (which is expected since this place is super yummy and we can late in the day). With that said, we ordered our 5pc of seniorita bread and it came out piping hot within a few minutes. This spot doesn't have any seating so it's just grab and go. We ate our bread in the car and finished within 5 minutes. I will note that I think the batch I got was a bit on the soggy side and didn't really hold its shape. Definitely more expensive than Starbread in Daly City on King Dr. Today I bought 30 pieces for $21 vs $18 at the other location. I didn't take a picture of the full price list, I assume other sizes also cost more here. It doesn't look like the usual proper shop/bakery. The shop is spare, looks like they focus on selling their star product: senorita breads. The couple of times I visited, the store seemed to be operated always by one employee only who ran the register as well as the oven in the back. So, understandably no customer service, just converse to get customers' orders filled. No receipt for cash purchase, ever, and cash register may never be fixed. Get a bigger box than you think because they go down fast, and then sit there like a fat warm lump of sticky regret in your carb coma after. I like showing up at potlucks and parties with a box - it'll be the first to go, especially because it's so good warm. This is a convenient location when going to the beach! Grab some coffee from starbucks and a box of starbread, and go enjoy the breezy Pacifica/HMB sand. They also sell various filipino snacks and desserts here. I tried the empanadas. The chicken/pork/beef seemed to have a similar savory seasoning and bits of carrot/corn/peas, and the ground meat. They were good, BUT they were insanely salty the day I tried them (all 3 fillings). 10 years ago my youngest son played on a travel baseball team with a boy who lived near a Starbread Bakery. The sweet girl behind the counter gave us such great service and when I commented on Alex's cut of his tbumb, she sweetly included two band aids with our order. This was patient and spectacular customer service! Our order was as follows: , five lumpia, 20 Seniorita Bread, a chicken and a beef empensda and a ham and cheese pastry. I got one bite of the chicken empenada, one lumpia and four glorious pillowy, yeasty, sweet and buttery Senioritas. Everything was fantastic, but Starbread is all about the Senorita Bread,. Starbread is located at the far Southern end of Daly City making it a bit of drive from San Francisco, but at least via Skyline there is minimal traffic. Upon reaching the commercial plaza it's pretty simple to order your desired number of Señorita Breads, though they also have other items like empanadas . I waited to sample my haul till I returned home, and found myself surprised at how sweet the Señorita breads were. Located across from Classic Bowl, there's a couple of 20 minutes green zone parking spaces right out front of the bakery. But I have to confess. We asked for the 20 piece at $10 a box. Anything else we're asked. We are ignorant when it comes to Filipino desserts so we passed. However I notice ziplock quart size bags & bags of chicharrones. We'll buy a bag. $7.50 a bag. The senorita bread is very addictive. Larger and firmer than lady fingers, it's easy to eat one after another. Just enough butter and sugar. Get there early before the lumpias sell out. The drive to Linda Mar shopping in Pacifica is breathtaking with plenty of parking. I'm happy there's a Starbread within driving distance when I visit moms in SF. I don't have to go to the East Bay. And why go to Daly City when there's a location in Pacifica. I'd much rather take the scenic route. It's a one-stop shop here. This Starbread was located in a strip mall area with other stores, so the parking is a bit on the squished side. However we easily found parking, and there is space for street parking too if need be. The service was kind of a miss...we stood in line waiting to order and we weren't sure what the etiquette was for ordering. The guy in front of us ordered, but there were other people waiting and another gal cutting in front of us to ask about her order. It was odd because the lola's behind the counter didnt even ask us what we wanted or cue us with a "NEXT." Either way, we stepped up to the panel and asked for our box. Btw theres no special deal for buying in bulk, so no matter how many breads you buy, its all the same unit price. The quality of the breads are unparalleled when hot and fresh. Thankfully, this year I found out on Facebook they are opened up again in a location not far from their original. We came here early - Memorial Day weekend. The line was thankfully short. Social distancing was in full effect, face masks were required to enter and there were stickers on the ground to let you know where you should stand. Unfortunately all the other sweet items were stale, old tasting or allergy unfriendly. 3 boxes lengua de gato (0/5) The Filipino butter cookie Lengua de Gato was stale, not buttery and overall bad tasting. 1 container ube Halaya (0/5) The Filipino dessert was bland and disappointing. 3 packs of Pastillas de Leche (0/5) one tub of vanilla, one tub of chocolate, one tub of ube and all were a fail. Pastilles de Leche is supposed to be a soft, sweet milk candy. This version is definitely zero out of five stars as it was hard and old tasting. 1 container Yema (0/5) asked if there were nuts and assured there was none. When we got home to SJ we could tell there were nuts. 2 empanadas (0/5) dry and tasteless.
