Our BMW 530I had a cooling leak at the turbo connections. I had taken the car to another shop who charged $200 just to diagnose the problem, and claimed they would have to remove the turbo to do the repair. I felt their repair estimate was too high, so I contacted Drew at Startech. He said to bring the car in and he would look at it for no charge, so I did. I was shocked at the difference in his estimate. He replaced both cooling lines for much less, without having to pull the turbo. I was very impressed with this shop. Brought my VW Jetta in for a check engine light. Husband had given it a full tune up and it was still having an issue. They could not locate a specific problem (of course the car never acts up when being seen) but they did recommend my husband change a part out that he put in with a better name brand one. I like to drive my cars for a long time. And no ... I don't always get "good news" when I bring one in for repair. But ... My wife's A/C compressor went out and we took it in to have it replaced. The estimate was $1208.00. My wife paid the bill when she picked the car up yesterday. This morning, she got a call from Star Tech explaining that they didn't end up using some of the parts they originally included in the estimate, and were refunding her $268 for the unused parts. Have had an issue with my MINI S for a while, and the first auto shop couldn't locate it. Star Tech scheduled me in for a inspection and let me drop my car off the day before since I could not miss work the day of inspection. They found the warped rotors right away that was causing the vibration and noises when breaking. Their quote was fair and the only reason we did not go through with the service is because we want to buy upgraded custom rotors rather than the stock and install ourselves. They dealt with my multiple calls with questions and answered each one. There is an inspection charge but they let me take the car back without charging any fee. Professional, honest, shops are hard to find. We will be back next time we are in need of a repair. read more

SAVE YOUR TIME, SAVE YOUR MONEY! I took my mothers E500 Benz in for a service, and they recommended new brakes. I compared the price to the MB dealership, the same, but because it's close I let them do it. 2 days after a $1600 brake job the "check brake" light comes on (fluid? brakes?), who knows.... I called to say the service light came on, and said I need to be able to drop by, have them check it, add fluid (if needed), and run... I expressed it was a serious inconvenience to do this, since they should have reset the light, or, changed the fluid when they charged me $1600 for the brakes. The woman agreed, and said I could swing by the next few days, and they'll look at it right away. I drove in, and the woman at the front office told me I'd have to make an appointment. Seriously? "I'm here because your tech forgot to reset the sensor, or, it needs new fluid", and I explained I already called, and she said swing by and they'd look at it quickly why I wait. NOPE, you gotta make an appointment. This would NEVER happen at the MB dealership, I wasted 30 minutes in traffic bringing it back, and another 30 minutes to get home, told to make an appointment for what was their mistake. I received a call an hour later, telling me the first woman, didn't tell anyone there I could swing by. To which I replied, I suppose that's my fault too. Save your money, go to the BRAND dealership, or another LUXE / IMPORT shop in vacaville, these people are idiots. read more

I will keep this review short and simple - this is a family owned, family run business for over 30 years. They specialize in European cars (as told by the name of the company). I have a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta that I purchased at the Volkswagen dealership in Vacaville. I've been faithfully taking my car to the dealership for major mileage services (and some oil changes) since I purchased the car. I finally get fed up with having to decipher the jargon and sales pitches at the dealership - I've gotten to a point where I want to take care of my car, but I don't want to be changing fluids / belts / filters unnecessarily either. I came to Star Tech European based on a recommendation from a co-worker. And when I checked out their Yelp reviews, it further bolstered my confidence. Now I can say for sure - they are running a great operation. I was due for my 90K mile service for my Jetta. The dealership quoted me $500 - $600 for the service. Even a local independent shop quoted me between $250 - $350. When I called up Star Tech, I told the female owner my dilemma - if my car actually needed repairs or preventative services, I was happy to get them and pay for them. But if my brake fluid didn't need to be flushed, if my pollen filter didn't need to be changed, I didn't want to do those things just because. The owner assured me that they would definitely change my oil, and then they would thoroughly inspect everything else. Before doing any repairs / replacing anything, they would call and talk to me about it first. The price for all of this was $140. As a basis for comparison, I usually pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $80 for a synthetic oil change at the dealership. Turns out that all my car needed at 90K miles was an oil change. They also rotated and filled my tires at my request. So in one sense, I ended up paying $140 for an oil change and tire rotation. On the other hand, I saved myself somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 - $500, which is what I would have paid for all the bells and whistles at another shop or the dealership. Star Tech European has earned my trust, and I will continue to visit them approximately every 7,500 miles. Thanks for restoring my faith in the car repair industry! read more

I had a comically similar experience to Jeff M. Driving my 2003 BMW 330xi from San Jose to Sacramento. About halfway there, the alternator warning light goes off. The ol' girl made it about another 40 miles on just the battery, but then she started falling asleep. I pulled it off the highway and managed to get it into a parking spot in a hotel lot just as the engine was starting to misfire. Had my girlfriend pick me up and came back on Monday with a tow truck to get me to Star Tech. They got me patched up and back on the road Tuesday. 500 miles later car is having no problems. Very nice, clean shop. Claire runs the front of the shop and is very amicable. And fair prices for the work performed. They tried to get me out the door as fast as possible since they knew I was from out of town. All of that is good for 4 stars. Why the 5 stars? I had them look the car over for anything else it might need while it was i the shop. I gotten an excellent report of things I might want to keep an eye on, but didn't need to repair. I heard lines that I hardly ever hear anymore like "and we won't charge you labor for that belt/airfilter since we were in there doing the alternator anyway". I am seriously considering timing my BMW service with my visits to Sacramento just so I can bring my car here. read more

Brought my 99 slk230 to Star Tech European after finding out I had a bad transmission that needed replacement. I got three different estimates, all of them were ridiculously high. One business (not to be named) recommend I junk the car. We love our Mercedes and didn't want to junk it although it's got high mileage. After reaching out to Star Tech European and talking with Josh, I was given an estimate and was told that I was looking at a 1 week repair. They completed the work less than a week, repair costs were much more reasonable than the other estimates and best of all they were really nice people. Keep up the good work Star Tech!
