This was the worst manicure I've ever received in my life, and I do not give 1 star reviews haphazardly. First, my nail technician appeared to be the owners daughter. She came in dressed like any teenager would be on a Saturday afternoon and was texting and seemed irritated that she had to help out. I am not sure if she is licensed or not, based on her abilities and degree of professionalism. For my manicure, she chopped off all my nails and filed them really short. Her reasoning being that I had one that was shorter and flat so she grinded them down to nubs. Next, the paint I selected was supposed to be a grayish purple and it turned out to be an ugly purple. I was in a rush so I just had her finish the manicure. The results were AWFUL. I can see my nail underneath the two coats she did, it is patchy and streaky. The top coat was not put on appropriately and also has streak marks. For $33 this was such a joke for a gel manicure. I'll never go back and I will advise everyone to stay far away. Update: the owners and their friends/relatives all voted this post as "funny" and tried to put comments on it saying I was lying and this was all my fault because I rushed them (45 min for a manicure doesn't seem rushed to me). I think it speaks volumes about their business that instead of trying to treat customers with bad experience better, they instead try to bash them and treat them worse. read more

Stopped in today for the first time in years! Immediately greeted by the girls and asked to wash my hands upon entry (which I liked!) signed in via the iPad system that was super easy. Everything was SO CLEAN and sanitized (especially with Covid!) Picked a color from the hundreds of gel options and even had my tech ask if I needed help finding a color. Had an amazing pedicure from Jeanie. Literally have no complaints :) Give them a chance, I promise! read more

Tried it for the first time a few days ago. The most memorable moment? As soon as I walked in, I was told in a very detached- almost unfriendly- manner that they don't accept walk-ins but this time they'll serve me (the entire salon was empty except for one client). The nail technician was definitely very good and knew what she was doing, but there was no chit chat. It was like being at the dentist's, although slightly less painful, lol. Then I was given my used nail filer, buffer and gloves and advised to bring them with me at every visit. Hmmm. Not very hygienic, I thought. On top of that , I was told I'll be charged some amount if I lose this bag of filth and they have to provide me with a new one! At the end, as I thought of giving them another chance and went to the counter to make an appointment, I was told I have to pay $15 deposit and I'll get only one free reschedule after which I may be charged. I was too amused to listen to anymore if and thens after that. I think my dentist's office has better interpersonal skills then this establishment. As you can imagine, I don't see the need to go back. read more

Absolutely horrible. I called 2 weeks ago to confirm an appointment for a mani/pedi with gel and a full set and called to confirm a week ago. I went in for my appointment yesterday and there was no record of my appointment. I waited to get everything done for 3 hours before I was finally able to get my fingers done. My appointment was supposed to be at 1:00PM and I was finally taken into consideration at 3. I left at 4:38. My natural toe and finger nails were filed down to the nub where it hurt. They just tried to get everything done quickly with horrible quality. The acrylics were also filed down extremely thin and one broke this morning. The gel on one nail is coming off as well. I do not recommend anyone going there Update I just received a DM on instagram from the owner about how I have no right to this review and chewing me out that they have right to refuse me. Also she said how it was my fault that my nail broke. The people that went and fixed my broken nail even said they did a horrible job. But last time I check I have a right to freedom of press. And I will NOT EVER being going back to such a horrible and disrespectful business. All who want great nails steer clear of them read more

So I had a full set and FOUR NAILS BROKE in one week!!! I got my nails done for my bday and was happy when I got a gift certificate to go back at first. I went today and they were booked so I asked to set an appt. They told me they could get me in Tuesday. I asked to see what else they had avail. And they were argumentative and refused to assist me with scheduling what was good for me. I asked if the purchaser can get a refund and they said no. They are so rude and mean and my feelings were so hurt!!!! ALLL OF THEIR REVIEWS ARE BY THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES!!! THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED!!! read more

I visited this place when I went down to Indiana for vacation, and I loved the results! I did acrylic UV gel, and thr acryilcs stayed on for really long time without feeling patchy. I messed it up a little bit by moving my stuff around while I was drying my nails, but my nail technician was so nice about it and re-did my nails. I love this place, and will definitely visit again whenever I go to Indiana! read more

Always happy with my service here. I've been to several other nail salons in west Lafayette and lafayette, and this place is by far the best. The girl I had this time was so helpful, professional, and speedy with my dip manicure. She was constantly checking in with me to make sure I was comfortable and to make sure I liked the shape, color, etc. two weeks later my nails are still looking great, as always. read more

Rude, long wait and they drew blood! I asked them to slow down and take it easy. They told me I could wait for the next tech. I left.

By far the rudest salon workers I've ever encountered. My nail broke within 3 days of leaving and there was no sorry or I'll fix it. I was addressed rudely and even when I told them I have the $3 to pay for the nail to be fixed in my hand he is still addressing me in manner as though I'm trying to get something for free. I have no reason to beg for a$3 nail fix, I've spent more than $100 here in a month prior to this. I can pay for my nails to be fixed but the least that can be done is an apology for the service before and try to make sure I come back. The manager James and nail tech Vinny think someone is out to con them but are losing people that are helping them. There are nail salons all around west lafayette, this shouldn't even be anyone's last resort. I even told them I'm not coming back because of the horrible service and him being rude he says that's fine there are other nail salons. I see that's why they only have 3 people being serviced on a Saturday afternoon. LOOK AT THE REVIEWS THAT ARENT EVEN RECOMMENDED ALL BAD. I was called a liar about not being left over nail polish from last time underneath as well. I've posted pictures, you tell me. ALSO: first time I came service was great! But it was because they were being watched it seemed like it was a group that either owned the salon or looking to own it and everyone was pleasant and taking customers way past closing. That was the only time I got an excellent job done on my toes and nails. read more

Wow... worst service ever!!! I have been going to star nails for a while now. I just got my nails done a day ago and one of the broke a little in corner! They cut my cuticle while fixing it causing it to now look all bloody. Then as I leave they tell me it will be $3 to fix ONE nail. Absolutely ridiculous. They blamed me for breaking the nail when I hadn't hit it or anything just noticed the chip. I will never be returning here because of there terrible customer service. read more

Pros: friendly, nail polish lasts well (especially for pedicures), clean, great polish selection Cons: wait time is rarely accurate (I don't think we have the same definition of "five minutes"), you have to buy a new file and buffer for $1 each time you go if you forget to bring your own I've been coming to Star for so long, and I remember when they had very few staff members. I have been happy to see their business grow in the recent years. I usually don't come in without an appointment. I call (usually same day) to make an appointment, knowing that it may or may not be kept when I arrive. I'm sure they have some many people make appointments and not show so they have to overbook themselves to be safe. I haven't really ever had a bad experience here. The massage chairs are comfy, the staff is friendly and the polish really lasts (I'm checking out my three week old pedi and it still looks new). This is my favorite place to stop in town- just remember to bring your own file and buffer unless you want to pay an extra buck (I always forget mine so I have about 6 little baggies of the files they sell you). read more

I happened to stop here as a last result, but was happily surprised. I came in for a no chip gel fill on my stiletto shaped nails. Right away I was helped and my nails were worked on by a nail tech named Tony. Tony did a great job and although I don't live in Indiana, but come here often, I would go back to him again. My fill was $36 and I was pleased with the price as that is roughly what I pay when I'm back home in Illinois at my go to salon. I was charged a dollar extra for a brand new nail file and buffer. I didn't know I'd have to purchase that, but I didn't mind for $1. If I need a fill next time I'm in town, I will be back at this place. read more

Would never go back. Very, very rude. I experienced horrible customer service. When I nicely inquired about a price discrepancy I was responded to with sarcasm and hostility. I also overheard staff make negative comments about other clients. Thank you for your yelp response, but I was not offered a refund of any kind. In fact that is why I called after I left to try and give your business a second chance to make it right. Also you have quotes around statements I absolutely did not make, but I did inform you as a courtesy that I would be writing a yelp review. I think your written response on here speaks for itself. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE AND QUALITY OF WORK This is the most absolute worst salon I have ever been to in my life they used to be good but they have completely gone down the hill their service is horrible they scream at the customers they don't care whether they did it right or if they did it wrong you just need to pay them when you tell them there's a problem they scream and yell at you even more and tell you to get out of their shop this is not how you treat your customers and I can guarantee you that if they keep treating your customers like this and doing crappy work that of a preschooler they're not going to stay in business much longer they used to be an awesome salon and they put their customers first I don't know what happened to that but it's completely gone never go back nor will I ever recommend this place to anybody 3/21/18 response to James First lets set the record straight not ONE time did i EVER make a RACIST remark!!! When i first entered yes i asked for a mani/pedi but had explained i would love to have nails for vacation but wasn't sure if i wanted to deal with taking them off when back from vacation and decided it was biggie this was all PRIOR to even righting my name in the book. So You're Tech KNEW what i wanted from the start!!!!!!!!!!!. Second - Her work that was a 45.00 pedicure was HORRIBLE she asked if she could trim the nails i said yes NOT cut them down to the nail bed. Yes i questioned the way some of the polish was on the nail because only 3/4 of the nail was painted and i asked her to touch them up in areas missing polish. This is when you chime in SCREAMING across the store no i could not understand 1/2 of what you were saying and PER you're family member your English was not very good but there is NOTHING RACIST abt that. You acted like a 2yr old having a tantrum because someone questioned you're companies work. You made The 2 other people in the salon besides me very uncomfortable as you're Tech was also screaming for the customers to come see her job and how i wasn't happy with it and she did just fine. I paid extra to have the dead skin taken off my heels i had to point out it was all still there and you sir were doing what STILL SCREAMING AT ME BECAUSE I WANTED THEM FIXED. you told me to get out of your store. At this point i had enough and paid the 45.00 for the crappy nail job and left never at any point did i say i wasn't going to pay for the service. You're customer service skills are far below par and yes you had a great shop at one point and i loved the Quality work you did but that is not the case yesterday, at no point was i rude or disrespectful until you began to scream at me. LASTLY, you're Tech she was screaming and crying like a toddler for sympathy and attention and then began wailing as i told her she didn't need to go any farther that i felt so uncomfortable being yelled at that i just wanted to pay for the service and leave. Maybe ask the nice young lady trying to diffuse the situation I WAS ALSO IN TEARS BECAUSE OF HOW YOU WERE TREATING ME!!!!!!!!! I feel you owe me an apology. We all have bad days and maybe this was yours but it was unacceptable and then to say i said Racist things is completely inexcusable and if that was the case why would i ever have come in for a pedicure. I am more than happy to remove this review if you apologize for you're actions. read more

James did a beautiful job on my nails highly recommend him he was great and my nails look wonderful. Tiffany however, was extremely mean to me and made me cry during my visit. I had asked if I could get a discount since they didn't need to use acetone to take my acrylics off since they were done very badly somewhere else and just fell off when she trimmed my nails. She said no and proceeded to yell at me so I said it was fine I would pay and then paid and she proceeded to yell at me after until I cried saying she didn't care if I come back. Very unfortunate because I loved my nails and would happily come back to James however I'm scared of her. If you are going to come here make an appointment with James. read more

Best pedicure I have had in a long time! Yuki did a wonderful job! Would highly recommend

Literally the best pedicure I've ever had. First off, they're so polite it's insane. They apologized that I'd have to wait and it was less than 5 minutes, which is NOTHING. The whole place is super clean, and my clean freak self was so calm throughout. Then the actual pedicure was just amazing. The massage I got, the attention to detail. I'm a runner, and she realized it and asked if I wanted all my callous removed or if I wanted a more focused calf massage. Long winded, I know, but dang it was good and I'm never going anywhere else read more

It's been a week since I got my nails done from here and the paint is coming off three of my nails. Keep in mind, I got a gel manicure over my acrylic nails. Also, one of my nails fell off. This was my first time here and I will not be coming back. The technician was also very critical of my nails and the condition they were in. Definitely not somewhere to go if you want to feel good about your nails, and want ones that last longer than one week. read more

The minute we came in we were greeted and asked nicely to pick a color and wait. There color selection is wonderful, and there place is very clean and tidy. Just left absolutely the worst manicures my daughter and I have ever had. The ordeal began with a speedy pedicure. I was shocked that they could finish in less than 20 minutes. It's no wonder that they cut us both while trimming our cuticles... And he only put one coat of polish on. When we asked for a second coat, he grudgingly complied. But then we had to beg for a top coat... But the worst part of the ordeal was my daughter's manicure. They were in a huge hurry and didn't take the time to do a good job. When my daughter complained, two women came over to tell her that they wanted her to be happy because they "cherished their customers". So, my daughter abandoned her original plan and chose a new color that would be a little more forgiving of a sloppy job. They began to remove her shellac to make her happy and as they were working on her, another woman walked by to make sure she understood that they would charge an additional $10 because she "changed her mind." In the end, she allowed them to finish the bad job and we left. Even with the hassles, we were in and out in one hour. So Purdue mothers, BEWARE!!! Don't go to this salon to treat your daughters. This is not an enjoyable salon, it is a place where they crank you in and out. There was nothing positive I can say about this experience. And the worst part is that no one seemed to care. P.s. I tried to leave no stars but Yelp wouldn't allow it. I would give a negative rating, if possible. read more

I don't know the last time I saw my natural nails. Im a pretty seasoned customer! This is the second time I have received poor quality from this establishment. Second worse pedicure if my life yesterday. First I walked and, told them I need a pedi, they tell me 10 minute wait. Okay, no problem. After about 10 minutes, they took me to a chair to let me soak. I sat there soaking for 45 minutes while they every technician took a new walk in. Eventually, Tiffany came over and thanked me for waiting. Then gave me the fastest pedicure I have ever had. Now, I have been to this location many times and got "adequate" pedis. They got the job done. But this service was far different than what I've had in the past. Additionally, because she was in such a hurry, she cut the side of my toe which is now throbbing today. Because all of my other experiences have been "adequate", I will not be back. read more

What a rip off. It states $26 for a pedicure but that's not an option when they show you the menu and insist on selecting from there. Then they charge you an extra dollar for a cheap buffer and nail file. No foot massage. Color application on toes was sloppy. Get like my toes were getting massacred with the clipper. When I asked if lotion was included, the tech put a small drop on both shins. Also, she asked if I read English while looking at the menu as if I didn't understand. Waste of $30 plus. read more

I have been to MANY places in town. This salon is the best. They are clean and make an effort to talk to you. They are usually very busy, so that's a good sign. I would call in and make an appointment if you can. I am Vietnamese, but do not always let people know. I can pass for other nationalities. When I go into a salon, I listen to what is being said as many nail salons are owned by Vietnamese people. Many salons do talk about their clients in a very bad way. I can say that outside of telling each other "Hey she likes her nails done this way..." or the such, you are not being talked about. They more discuss techniques, TV gossip, etc. This is the only place I will go to now. read more

I will not be going back! I got a pedicure at the end of summer last year. After taking the polish off I noticed my big toes had some discolorations under the nail. I didn't know why. I came here a couple weeks ago and got a pedicure and had to get one nail fixed. Tiffany did my pedicure. She started digging under my big toe nails. She asked where I got my last pedicure. I said here. She asked by who, I said I think by the guy who isn't here right now, she said Vinny? I said I think so. Well she said I have a fungus under my nails. I asked if it was from there. She said no, when you're sick and go to the doctor, the doctor doesn't make you sick. Well, I'm not saying I got it from there but I won't take my chances. As she was digging under my nails she had one of the other young guys watching. She kept talking to him about it. I have no idea what was being said. I felt very uncomfortable sitting there while she was digging stuff out of my toes. She cut one nail way to short, and a few of the other nails weren't cut right. She didn't even offer a discount. I have no problem paying for these treats, my nails. But if there was a chance I got the fungus from there then I would think they'd give a discount. I will not be going back! I did go in today for a fill, Jimmy did a nice job before and I will not have Vinny touch my nails. Well Jimmy was busy so I left. Again I am not saying I got the fungus from there but I won't risk it. read more
