My girlfriend has been coming to this nail salon for over 20years on and off and I usually treat her, however their prices are going up and the nails do not last. The last two very rushed pedicures she got lasted 2 days before chipping and they cut her toenails uneven and crooked. The prices online do not reflect the real prices in salon so we were surprised at price. Her last dip manicure with tips lifted after less than a week. When she came back to let them know, they treated her as if it were her fault and a one time courtesy to fix. They recently received a small remodel inside which benefited the technicians mostly with better organization of their products etc. and was done by owners husband. Of course after this remodel all prices went up again another $5. I feel customers shouldn't have to pay for their upgrades especially when service stays the same. They tried to say it was the first time they raised the prices in 20 years but that was false information because the prices have gone up before in that time as regular manis used to be $10 then $12 then $15 and now $20 or even more. Now I have to pay $55 with tip for her to get a regular gel polish on her own nails which does not add strength and lasted a week and a half last time and is easier with UV cure imo. That's like paying $4-$5 everyday you wake up just to look at your nails with color and nothing special. She used to come here for the decent prices and because the girls working here have great personality and are good people, but we have to look elsewhere now and they have lost our service. I absolutely hate writing negative reviews, but my experience at Star Nails needs to be shared. I had a pedicure and a dip powder manicure about 10 days ago. Both services were incredibly rushed, and the technician only filed my nails and threw on the powder, no cuticle shaping or any other typical manicuring. I was rushed out so quickly that I had to ask the next customer who was shown to my chair if I could get my shoes and purse. I chalked it up to a busy day and tried to not be upset. Then 7 days later, the dip manicure started to lift at the base. Not just one nail, 8 of them. Every time I've had a dip powder manicure, it has lasted 3+ weeks. Then on day 10 one popped off like it was a press on. That should not happen with this type of manicure! I am very, very disappointed with the quality of this service. read more

Start to finish I was in there for 35 mins, and that included 12 min under the dryer. No doubt, they were busy on Friday afternoon, but don't overbook your three person staff. I had to finish rubbing in the lotion for my 20 second massage... come on. She quickly ran through my manicure. No clean up around the edges. I can see spots where it will eventually peel from the nail... great. (By the way, I'm still in the parking lot. I just had to get this review up on Yelp.) Pros: decent selection of colors, convenient on Fri, good prices Cons: small space, limited parking, cramped chairs, maybe sanitized nail tools (?), fresh towel for every hand wash I probably won't be back. read more

Lynn is great, she does an amazing job. My husband went to Kathy and she also does an amazing job. I went to this salon today for the first time. I'm new to the area and a friend of mine recommended it. I walked in around 1:30 without an appointment and they took me right away. Initially I had planned on getting a gel manicure and a pedicure. The nail tech Cathy recommended trying the dip powder, which I'd never tried before. I agreed but I'm not sure it's right for me. Normally I get the gel manicures with Essie gel because I like the colors better (solid, opaque). The SNS swatches they had at the salon weren't quite my taste (most have shimmer or glitter in them). Also, I'm not sure if this is common for dip powder, but I noticed after I got home that there appears to be a few bumps and places where the polish looks like one of the layers wasn't completely dry and it was running. It's not real noticeable and that's why I didn't see it until later in the day (photos attached). I chose a color that I thought I liked (#17 I think) and Cathy tried to find a matching polish for my pedicure. She ended up mixing two colors but after looking at it in natural light it really wasn't that close. I have to give her credit for trying though. She was really nice and I would definitely go back to her again. I think it will take some trial and error but I plan on going back in a few weeks, but probably for a gel or regular manicure instead. read more

Full disclosure: My last visit there was right before the COVID nightmare shutdown. Unfortunately, I haven't been back since because of the school/shutdown/schedule, but hope to go back soon! I discovered Star Nails because my son started school in Olney. When he had strength and conditioning training, I had a couple hours of time to kill. I decided to take advantage of it and do things I normally have difficulty finding time for. That's how I came across Star Nails. I called to see if they had availability and that was the beginning of me having beautiful manicured hands on a fairly regular basis! It is a small and very friendly salon where the majority of business seems to be "regulars." The staff seems very tight and close which I also appreciate because it shows loyalty. I love that they always seem to remember me even when a decent amount of time has passed between visits. I have brought my daughter with me on occasion, and even my son once. They still remember both of them and ask about them. It shows that they care about their clients - I love that! Finally, they are always pleasant and easy to work with. They seem to always try to accommodate their clients needs. Another plus is that they offer a small cash discount! All of the technicians are very good at what they do...I just always go to Linh and I'm usually thrilled with my nails! She does French freehand and it is perfect! I have been coming here since middle school, way over a decade ago. They changed management a while ago and i love the new owner, posh spice, she's so cute. I cant remember her name but she has the victoria beckham haircut. I wont let anyone but Annie touch my eyebrows. She is the best. They just got new massage pedicure chairs. And $35 for a basic mani/ pedi??? Not bad at all. Ive never walked out without feeling and looking great. Be patient and respectful and they'll get you in and out. But who wants to rush getting pampered. My fave person to do my nails is the owners mom. But you better tip!!! Because these ladies deserve it. And they can add your tip to your total and charge it. How rare is that? Ill never let a white girl at some ritzy salon touch my nails. Huge rip off. I don't even live near here anymore, but everytime I come to visit I try to make it in. I was at this salon for almost 2 hours for a dip mani. My nail tech struggled to file a consistent shape and get the dip even. She put the base coats and dip powder on my skin on the sides of my nails and cuticle. I asked multiple times to file that down because I knew as it grew out it would peel up. I was tempted to ask her to just remove it before I left but just wanted to get out of that salon. Here it is just a week after the manicure and the top of the polish is peeling up and gets stuck in my hair. I debated for awhile whether or not I should write a review but here goes: I personally did not like Star Nails. I found the staff to be courteous and friendly but overall I did not quite enjoy my time there and do not think I will be going back. The first thing I noticed was the fact that they did not have any brush on glitters for nail designs, which was exactly what I wanted but could not get. Their selection for gel nail polish glitters was also not very large. I do think my nails were rushed, as I do not think my gel manicure had enough layers to it before it was considered done. The day after one of my nails chipped, which has never happened to me before with a gel manicure. I went with my sister as well and a jewel she had on her gel manicure also fell off the day after, which to me was surprising because with a gel manicure I had before (at a different nail salon), the jewels stayed in place for over a week. I also was not particularly fond of the cleanliness of the entire salon. When I was told to come sit at a nail station I found someone else's nail clippings left on the counter. My sister enjoyed the salon, but I strongly think that for this same price range your money would be better spent somewhere else. read more
