This is not a good salon for acrylic nails. There seems to be an air of arrogance in that Ann thinks she's great, but her idea of the proper application of acrylic nail fill-ins is skewed. She made a small hump in front of the cuticle, a hideous look. When I asked her to take the acrylic all the way back to my cuticle and make it look like a natural nail, she refused and said you can't do that. On top of all that, my new nails were lifting at the tip, and because she didn't bring the acrylic out far enough on the sides to cover my natural nail, they were catching on knit clothes. Serena did my nails the same way. If you want a good acrylic nail job, this isn't the place. I love going there, the staff is really friendly and accepting of everything and everyone. I was afraid at first of what people might thought when they saw me walking in the door, I was completely wrong, Ashley took me in and we just started a conversation, like I was a friend that have not been seen in a long time. THEY SHOULD BE CALLED BURNING SALON!!!! Came in on my 2nd wedding anniversary (since my regular salon was booked) for an eyebrow wax and pedicure. All throughout the eyebrow waxing, the waxing lady kept on dabbing my brows with alcohol cotton-soaked balls that stung me to tears. I have been used to waxing, but this was the first time that I had to literally ask her to stop so I can recover from the pain. She constantly reassured me "I know it stings a bit" and would stop now and then. She then asked me to check my eyebrows before trimming it and that's when I saw BURN MARKS ON BOTH BROW LINES. In shock and panic, I told her my face was burned. That's when she said "Oh my gosh, I just saw it now when you told me. Could it be your skin is sensitive? ". How can she not see my skin was already burned / damaged when her eyes were literally just 2 inches from my face??? Ladies, if you have ever had an eyebrow wax you know how close they get to your face...what she was telling me of not seeing it was a total lie!!!! I asked her for soothing gel and kept on applying it on my BURNT SKIN. She asked me if I wanted her to finish the job - I AM NOT CRAZY - so I politely said just leave it as is. She didn't charge for the eyebrow wax since she "felt bad" so I just paid for the pedicure. That's great don't you think. How kind of her. Meanwhile my face and 2nd wedding anniversary plans were ruined. I had to be medically treated and looked worse than a raccoon for weeks. Oh and the irony of it all, the waxing lady who worked on me is the owner!!!! She even jokingly told me "It's your second anniversary? What a great impression I made on you". If you want to save yourself a trip from the doctor, STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! P.S. This place doesn't even merit one star, I just had to put one in to post the review. read more

This nail salon is great! I've used Yelp for a long time now, but I have never left a review. The young lady who did my nails was outgoing and very friendly. She even showed me a new way to shape your nails! (Ask for almond shape!) My acrylic nails were painted with precision as well. Could not have asked for a better experience. I have been a patron of Star Nails for at least 10 years now. My experience has been so good that I refer all my friends to them and they all say how good the staff was to them and how pleased they were with their service. I have also personally taken groups of girl friends there in the evening to have a girls evening of spoiling and they sure do spoil us. I get so many compliments on my nails and in the summer I have art work done on my toes and I get stopped all the time by people saying how cool it looks and where to go. Came in for a 5:00 appointment 2 minutes early and they didn't prepare for me. They had two customers who were being helped and 2 technicians who were working yet I had an appointment and they were not ready for me at all. They asked me to select my color and then had me sit there and wait with no indication if they were going to take me for my appointment or not. After 15 minutes of waiting I left for another nail salon down the street. It's one thing to be late for an appointment but another to not even let me soak my feet as I wait. I will never go back here and continue to go to the nail salon I should have stayed loyal too. read more

EXCELLENT Salon! I have been going here for 14 years and have always been well taken care of! The prices are extremely reasonable and the quality is very high! Most other salons charge more and don't do nearly as good of a job! They know me well and are always willing to accommodate my schedule to squeeze me in for an appointment, sometimes at the last minute. Ann and Ashley who have been there for years are so sweet and always make you feel like family! I would never go anywhere else...STAR NAILS is best place in Hyde Park if you want quality service with an extremely reasonable cost! I lived in Hyde Park 14 years ago when I first started going here and now drive 30+ minutes each way to come back...it's worth the drive! I have been here a couple of times and on both occasions were not impressed. I always schedule for an appointment but I always have to wait at least 15 minutes. The aesthicians and manicurists are more into their soap opera shows than doing their job. I thought at first it was nice to have a TV but later realized that it would bite me in the nails. First time I went my pedicure was so-so an i had a couple of knicks and cuts. I felt like I was being rushed and was in-between the TV OR the constant phone answering. No receptioninst so the manicurist was the one talking the calls while scrubbing your feet. If you're okay with someone constatnly watching TV or answering the phone while you painfully look at your feet then this is your place. read more

I have been going to Star nails twice a month for about 5 years. The atmosphere is friendly, the quality is high and what a good value! I have been to other salons and I have never been anywhere that the staff works any harder to make sure you are happy when you walk out the door. They are GREAT!!! read more

I had such a bad experience with this salon! I looked at their reviews on yelp and though well people could be unfair sometimes, let's give them a chance! I had a pedicure and a french manicure there and my manicure flaked away in 24 hours and i went back they repaired them but again they came off! I believe they use cheap materials although they don't charge low! I paid 56 dollars for these two services! I wouldn't recommend this place honestly! read more
