The hotel itself is CLEAN and bright and modern; both desk clerks were efficient AND FRIENDLY, the complimentary breakfast was standard buttttt they had a new fangled pancake maker which totally entertained me for way too long than I'd care to admit. Did I mention the lounge/common area was also CLEAN and bright and modern? Check out my pics. The balcony view wasn't particularly worthwhile, but the room itself delivered. The chief sources of frustration for me were a parking lot with scary big potholes and wifi that didn't work consistently. I felt that in this price range, it's reasonable to expect better. I could live with the other limitations of a historic building, and I'd much rather they spend money cooling and furnishing the rooms than the hallways so we're on the same page there. But although I didn't have such plans on this visit, I often telework at hotels and the connection fritzing out on me is a significant issue, as is the threat of the parking lot to my tires. Additionally, when I went out to search for breakfast, I left the "do not disturb" sign on my door only to return and find the door wide open. No one was in there, they were just cleaning other rooms in the hallway. This was an hour before checkout. What was that about? I liked being close to everything in this town and it's not that I wouldn't consider staying again under the right circumstances. I've given them some clear things that could have been better.

I come here after I watch my son's football games. It is an exceptionally lovely hotel. The building itself is beautiful and well-kept. Even when it's dreary outside, it's sunny inside. While the ceremony was beautiful and…read morethe venue has charm, the experience leading up to and during our wedding day was incredibly stressful due to poor communication, unfulfilled promises, and a total lack of professional coordination. We chose this intimate venue for a low-stress experience, but we felt like a low priority and were blamed for every issue. Before we paid our deposit, communication with T was fantastic. Afterward, replies went from taking hours to taking weeks. Though coordination was explicitly included, T failed to deliver: No Communication/Direction: T ignored late-night texts about the fire pit, leaving my husband to build it. On the wedding day, no one directed guests or vendors; I had to meet people in the parking lot. Timeline Failures: Our 5:00 PM ceremony started late because no one tracked the timeline or gathered the groom. T then rushed us through everything else to hit a strict 7:00 PM dinner, cutting into our photography. Poor Hospitality: In 90-degree heat, we had to make six trips to haul bags to our cottage with no help or golf cart offered. Later, staff refused to let guests (including older family) sit down or get a drink before we entered. During a rushed photo session, T inappropriately interrupted to complain about our guest book pens. The Flowers & Charms: Friday, I gave T a labeled bag. My mom explicitly asked her to attach 4 sentimental charms of my late grandparents to my bouquet. T agreed. By 3:50 PM Saturday, I had no flowers. T was entirely off-property, forcing my mom to hunt down the bouquet. When found, the charms were missing. T arrived late, blamed others, and told me to attach them myself while in my wedding dress. The groom's boutonnieres also arrived Friday and were brown and wilted by ceremony time. Blame & Broken Promises: The AC: When the AC broke in my parents' room, T instantly accused us: "You must have blown a fuse." Dances: T acted visibly annoyed by our first and parent dances, though they were explicitly scheduled. The Grounds: Promised winter hydrangeas and wildflower hills were actually zero bushes and pure dirt. Hidden Fees & Perks: T forgot our cake design details multiple times. Souvenir flutes contractually promised were never received. We were charged a surprise $21 fee for cottage breakfast delivery. When we asked to put our refund on a different card, they fought us before reluctantly writing a check. The Menu: Food quality didn't match prior menus. We were never shown the breakfast menu, yet T snapped at my husband for asking for ketchup and blamed us for not changing a menu we never saw. To top it off, our marriage certificate arrived with my name misspelled and the wrong date. T never offered a single compliment on the wedding day and didn't even say goodbye at checkout. Our wedding was beautiful solely because our 11 guests stepped up to run it. Future couples: what is promised in the sales pitch is not what is delivered. Get every syllable in writing.

She really made me feel quite welcome. I truly appreciate that. The manor itself is like something out of an old Agatha Christie movie- tons of land, beautiful inside with a hint of the past. There are even old fashioned keyholes in the door! Hercule Poirot, here I come! The leaves are falling because, well, it's fall, duh. Silly me. I'm a bit cold but not terribly so. Thankfully the sun is peeking out and it's not that cold out yet. We sat and had coffee while watching the leaves fall and feeling the cool breeze. I don't know when, but I'm coming back!

A parking fee was not disclosed during the reservation process nor disclosed to me when I checked in. Nowhere is it disclosed the hotel charges a parking fee. This is disrespectful. Upon check out the desk clerk could not print my receipt. No problem I asked the clerk to email me a receipt. 10 hours later I still don't have a receipt. I called the hotel. It took seven times to call before someone answered the phone (30 minutes of time) I was told I would be getting an emailed receipt. 3 hours later and I still don't have a receipt and no one will answer the phone at the hotel. I am disappointed in IHG. They would not resolve the issue. I'm disappointed in the staff. I'm disappointed in the ownership of this hotel. I stay in IHG hotels about 150 nights a year and I'm considering leaving IHG as a member because of my experience at the Holiday Inn express in Farmville Don't stay at this hotel stay at the Hampton Inn next door

There was dust and dirt everywhere that took an hour to clean before even being able to set up, a gross dead bug graveyard in the sitting area floor, it smelled musty, and overall was just not up to the standard they advertised. The owner nor any staff showed up at any point. We were not greeted, we were not helped, and it was just kind of a "okay good luck" situation. Also, the "AC" was on 75 on a hot May day. After paying the second half of the $550 fee, I didn't hear from the event manager other than a text asking what time I'd be in. Afterwards, nobody checked on us or the space. Never even heard from them to get a "thank you for renting our space" or "I'm sorry I wasn't available today"... To pay $550, you'd expect to get what you pay for. As a local, I will NOT be renting there for any other party I host nor trying out their B&B if the service is anything like this experience has been. Next time, we'll pay $550 for a nicer place on 151.

I was offered an early checkin and also took a late checkout, so I got a ton of time with the room. They also stored my luggage, including various baked goods, after I was done. So I got a lot of value out of the room. The question to me was how this hotel would compare to the others that are in downtown Charlottesville; would the experience be worth a bit more than the more standard Marriotts or various others. I was not convinced that it would be worth spending the extra money on.
