My experience with driving instructor Nancy was excellent. She was very thorough with the theory and practical aspects of driving any student should know about. Her instruction style is gentle and polite. She put me through the driving practice professionally. At each step correcting the mistakes and informing the consequences of each error. Her emphasis, more than passing the test was making me a responsible, law abiding and hence a safe driver. She took care of the car's maintenance and cleanliness. She was always cheerful. After I passed the test she was more happy than me. Woman of great character I highly recommend her as a driving instructor. I will be indebted to her for teaching me DMVs rules and practices. This place is a scam. I was skeptical when they didn't require payment up front and unfortunately my fears were validated when Nancy didn't show up or even call for my son's appointment. When we called to find out what happened Nancy gave a clearly dishonest bull@#%t story about having two people with the same first name and didn't know who had the appointment. It was all very fishy, especially how quick she was to suggest we go to someone else and straight up refused to compensate us in anyway for waiting around all day. The only thing Nancy was honest about is when she said " There are hundreds of companies more professional than hers that we can call." Unfortunately, there aren't negative stars. Anything less than 4 stars is just inaccurate! They are a smaller local Burbank business, which I love, that truly has taken care of my daughter's behind the wheel training. Nancy answers the calls and explains the process, prices and schedules the behind the wheel with instructor, Narses. Because they are known by other Burbank High Schoolers as the go-to, it can be difficult to get your time scheduled. Not a big deal if you call at least a week or 2 in advance to schedule your trainings! Now agreed, Nancy is a little difficult to communicate with, gets agitated easily with scheduling conflicts and can be a little rude over the phone (example yelled at my daughter because of a conflict of where to pick her up). She just needs to learn to be more professional over the phone---Nancy, please relax!!! Hence the 1 star knock off. However, their saving grace isn't Nancy but the driving instructor, Narses. I can't speak to the previous Yelper's comment but from our experience HE IS AMAZING! He truly took the time to explain in detail the basics and then some. He was never rude, grumpy or miserable. On the contrary. My daughter said he was patient, thorough and sweet. He even offered to buy her lunch (drive-thru) when she was starving from getting picked up right after school and practice. He does go out of his way to explain the do's and don'ts as well as offering a free brief brush up lesson right before her DMV exam. So for Narces, he gets 5 stars! I found this driving school after previously having a bad and unprofessional experience with Roland's driving school. Nancy is who you speak to on the phone, she was always very helpful. I had an appointment once when it was raining and she called to ask if I wanted to drive or cancel because of the weather. Nerses is the owner and was my instructor throughout all my sessions. Nerses was very kind and patient and answered every question I had. If I did not understand something he would make sure to explain it to me. I started off being afraid of driving and did not think I would ever learn, but Nerses made it so easy! I passed my driving test on the first time thanks to Star Driving School! I have already recommended this school to family and friends and would recommend it to anyone else looking for a good driving school. It is really unfortunate, but this place no longer offers traffic school for citations, and I'm very sad about it. I had a violation I needed to take care of with traffic school, and upon calling them to see when they would offer their next traffic school class, was told that they do not offer traffic school. I do not know why they no longer offer this service (I did not ask), but I wanted to leave an update here on yelp to let other people . I completely enjoyed this traffic school. It was interesting in the beginning because I was the only one in the class that day, which Nerses (the owner) says rarely happens. However, he was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. He explained the material perfectly and answered all of my questions very well. From the time I contacted them they were professional, friendly, answered all my questions on the phone without rushing me and they are flexible with no minimum number of hours. Nancy, who answers the phone and booked the appointments is lovely, friendly and helpful. When I asked her how many lesson I might need she said leave it to the instructor as he will advise you based on your ability instead of trying to get me to comitt to more hours and part with more money. Do not let the 4.5 stars turn you off. The fact that Star818 has any less than 5 stars is downright criminal. Let me just start this off by saying that Star818's rates are cheaper than those of its competitors, but the quality of instruction is miles ahead of the competition. They are a family business and have been established in the Burbank/Glendale area for more than 20 years. They have driving down to a science, and are enthusiastic about passing on their knowledge to you. Other schools drag out their lessons, covering in a single two-hour session what Star818 would cover in fifteen minutes. I had previously received instruction from a competitor (who is also on Yelp with 5 stars), but was disappointed with the instruction I received. At the time I didn't know that I was receiving sub-par instruction, and it was only after I had received instruction at Star818 did I notice the difference. At Star818, my instructor, Nancy, was extremely patient with me. She explained the techniques of a good driver and explained very carefully the reasoning behind various maneuvers and traffic laws. She had smoothed out bad habits I had accumulated under the other driving school I took lessons from, and made sure that every small mistake was corrected. She's very observant and meticulous, and catches every little mistake you might make. Then she makes sure that you never make that mistake ever again. Her teaching more or less guarantees that you pass your behind-the-wheel driving test on the first try. At the previous school I had received instruction from, I was taught how to go down straights and occasionally make some turns for two hours. At Star818, in two hours I learned all of that, and how to make good turns, U-turns, and even experienced the DMV driving test course. My second session at Star818 covered parking, lane changing, and small mistakes I made. Additionally, I went over the DMV test course at least three times during the second session. My third and last session went over solidifying my foundation, and comfortably and confidently driving the DMV test course, and just driving in general. Again, Star818 is a family business, so not only are their rates lower, they can also negotiate with you and they don't beat around the bush. They are very dedicated to their craft. You get what you pay for, they WANT you to pass. They do all they can to help you pass, and if you ask, they'll even tell you the rough percentage chance of you passing. Star818 is by far the best driving school in the Glendale/Burbank area. They have been established for over 20 years, and quite frankly I think that makes the other, newer, driving schools jealous, hence some of the nonsensical 1 star reviews on their Yelp Page. Nancy might be a little hard to understand over the phone, but she is incredibly patient and accommodating. It's because she's from somewhere with heavy Russian influence that she may sound peeved, but trust me she it not. I called to make a three-day appointment the night before the first session, and she managed to fit me in. She was even willing to ask other students if their schedules could be moved around a little bit, a notion I respectfully declined, but nonetheless demanded my respect. She is very compassionate, and I cannot recommend Star818 more than enough. Their lessons are comprehensive and easy to understand and their rates are cheap. I literally only had four days to prepare for my test because I procrastinated, and was under a tight schedule. In about thirty minutes I will take my test, and I have the utmost confidence in my ability to pass. read more

Student driver at this school just clipped my mirror, fled the scene, and then decided to come back. The driver and the instructor both looked at me when it happened but decided to keep going and pretend it didn't. When they came back to the scene they acted like they didn't know they hit me.
