Star Body Works - Body Shops Near Me - Medford, Oregon

Based on my interaction with Star Body Works, I question their ability to repair Teslas at an affordable cost. I dinged my rear door a few weeks ago - nothing major, but body work can be expensive. Tesla in the Bay Area gave me an estimate for $4,200. I thought surely the job would be cheaper in Southern Oregon since body shops don't have a captive market like Tesla, and Southern Oregon labor rates should be dramatically lower than the bay area. I guess I was wrong since Star's estimate was 50% more expensive than Tesla San Jose. Why? Star's estimate included significantly more labor hours, including for portions of the car nowhere near the site of the damage. That's a head scratcher. In addition, I suppose it's possible Tesla has access to technologies not available to Star, but this is body work on a rear door we're talking about - nothing requiring exotic technologies. Anyway, lesson learned. I'll take my Tesla down to the bay area for the work with the satisfaction that the work is being done by the manufacturer and I'll save over $2K in the process. Oh, one more thing. Star Body Works posts in public view their labor rates. Bonus points for transparency. That said, they have two sets of published rates - one set of rates for normal cars and one set for "Luxury & EV cars" which are about 35% more expensive than the non-luxury cars. Why? If these cars are more complex Star should simply use more labor hours than the simpler cars. Why charge a substantially higher labor rate for paint, body, mechanical, etc.? This makes no sense. These guys might be great. I'll never know. But if you own a Tesla (or perhaps a "luxury vehicle") you might want to look around for a quality job at competitive rates. read more

I have a lifetime warranty on the paint on my 2002 Ford pickup. It recently failed and I asked Star if my warranty was still good. They said that it was and made the necessary repairs. Extimates had originally been between $2000 to $3500. They advised that as long as I owned the pickup, their job was guaranteed. I as very pleased with their work and also that I'm not out any money for the repairs. Several years ago I had Star paint a Corvette. The job was good with the exception of one area that was off color. I brought this to their attention and they immediately corrected the flaw. I had my truck repaired at Star Body Works. I will never do business with them again nor would I recommend them. When I returned with my truck and spoke of my concerns and I was treated to a condescending gentleman who had practiced his lines for years. He tried to pawn the issues off on the insurance company. I had already talked with the insurance company who stated too much time had passed. Start Body has no intention to live up to their so called warranty. Within 2 years of being repaired I had to replace the majority of coolant system including a radiator. To my disbelief AAA Insurance uses them as a vendor. They replace parts with non original equipment that does not last. Hence, 2 years down the road you will be replacing them again at your cost. I wouldn't take my kids toy car to be repaired there! read more

Got sideswiped in February. Because the other driver has USAA and "couldn't get in touch with her" we gave up and just took it in ourselves on September 12. Here we are, 5 weeks later, still waiting for the relatively minor repairs. There is no communication from Star. We have to call them for updates. Three weeks ago they were "going to send it to the tech by end of week." We called a week later. The excuse then was they "had to reorder a part." Called today. It was ready last week. So thanks for that, guys. This is the third and final time we use this company. read more

I gotta tip my hat to Marco and his crew. My truck was in really bad shape. The body work was excellent and was done way sooner then the estimated time. My truck had damaged the entire left side from an accident and the folks at Star Body Works have been amazing with their quality work. Got both left doors replace, new paint job, new rear number and step bars. After insurance covered it, all I was left to pay was for the unrelated damages which was the best advice Marco gave me and best decision I made. Well worth it. You want excellent and great service. I highly suggest my friends in the Medford area stay clear of this Body shop. On 3/15/21 my vehicle was towed to Star Body Works. On 3/22/21 I received a call about the final estimate and I was told the AC Compressor, Radiator, Grill, Bumper, Left Corner Panel, and Right Corner Panel needed to be replaced. On 4/1/21 I was called to pickup my vehicle and when I arrived I was surprised to see my car was not in good repair. The bumper was not properly installed, the paint color did not match the car, and the paint had dirt throughout on the hood, bumper, and both corners of the car. I was very concerned and upset as the body shop did not do quality work nor did they do a quality inspection before calling me to pickup my car. They were very apologetic and promised to get it fixed. On 4/6 or 4/7 the body shop called me to come down and look at a new bumper to see if the one they put on was defective. When I arrived we determined the new and installed bumper were the same. I also noticed that the installed bumper looked correct this time and I made a comment to the warranty manager who told me they hadn't touched it. I disputed his statement because the spacing and alignment was completely different from when I had seen it on 4/1/21. The warranty manager said well they might have readjusted it. Before leaving I asked when I could expect my vehicle to be finished and I was told most likely Monday 4/11/21. On 4/9/21 I called the body shop because I noticed, via the Toyota App, that someone had taken my car on a drive 3 different times. On the 3rd drive the app reported excessive acceleration, harsh braking, and harsh cornering. I was even more upset due to all of the issues I have already experience with this shop. I called the shop at 2:11pm and spoke with a new associate at the front counter who transferred me to Marco who was the USAA adjuster overseeing my repair. I left a voicemail as nobody answered my call. I call the shop again at 2:56 and asked to speak to a manger about the issue and was told no manager was on site. I told the guy, same associate from the first call, that one of two things would happen. He would get me a manager to talk to or I would be down in 10-15 minutes to pickup my car and take it to another body shop who could properly repair my car. The associate put me on hold and came back stating the manager had told him the drives were done to test my seatbelt. I told the associate it was only body work being completed and that his explanation did not make sense. I questioned the other drives performed and he placed me on hold again to speak with the manager. When the associate returned he told me the manager stated they were performing recalibration of collision sensors and that the drives were done to test the sensors. I still was not satisfied with the explanation and the fact that the manager would not take my call. I told the associate that when my repair was done I wanted reports for every test performed and time frames with routes for when my car left, returned, and where it was driven. I also told the associate I wanted invoices to prove that every part used in repair came directly from Toyota. Monday 4/12/21 and the repairs are still unfinished. The communication has been very poor after 4/1/21. On 4/13/21 Marco called me to let me know he looked over the repairs but there was a sensor error and they needed to recalibrate and test before I could pickup my vehicle. Today 4/14/21 at 1:37pm I was called by Star Body to notify me my vehicle was ready. I arrived to inspect my vehicle only to see compound left all over the hood and they had to take it back to remove it. There were scratches in the hood of the car, the trim on the side panels and bumpers are all scratched up and there is still dirt in the paint on the bumper. The paint color on the hood of the car does not match the side panels and there are paint blotches around the parking sensors and the side panels where the trim is. The hood of the car and the side panels are not aligned properly on both sides of the car. Star Body stated they could keep it and I explained that I would be taking it to another shop to properly complete repairs. I stopped by New Stage Collision and got a quote for almost $2,000 to fix the poor work that Star Body did to my vehicle. My vehicle was driven over 20 miles while it was in the shop. read more

After someone hit my brand new car, I was in a terrible mood for days. The folks at Star Body Works were kind, accommodating, and easy to work with. They let me do the estimate via a phone app, making it very convenient. After I dropped my car off for repairs, they stayed in frequent communication with me, giving me regular phone call updates and sending me text messages with ETAs and other helpful info. I also loved the fact that they're literally located next door to Enterprise Car Rental, which made the car rental piece so easy. I just picked up my car. It looks brand new. It sparkled inside and out. I crashed my car into a pole totally jacking up the entire front side, bad. I first got a quote by another local body shop but the guy looking at my car looked afraid to take on such a job and he seemed to indicate that parts would take a LONG time. I didn't feel great confidence there! My Chevy dealer recommended STAR and said they take all their vehicles there. It took longer than normal to get parts but that was due to Covid crap with distributors. Once parts arrived, the team there busted and my car was done within days. After insurance stopped paying for a rental, Jeff at STAR took action and they got me a loner car. I'm not saying they will give loners for all customers, I'm not sure, but what I felt from start to finish was that everyone working there were (1) professionals, (2) they were working FOR me, and (3) they did a fantastic job making my car look brand new. If I could give them ZERO stars I would ! I dropped my car off on July 13th, I had to use a 2003 loaner car with about a dozen dings and scratches. I didn't mind because I used the car less than 300 miles in 26 days. ( I live about 15 miles from town). When I picked up my car and returned the 15 year old loaner, I was told I had made $1,000 worth of damage to the car. I never wrecked the car or did anything to it. We had our car taken here from Brookings which is 2 1/2 hrs away. They did an excellent job on the repair of our 2005 Toyota Tundra. Not only that but while they were waiting for a part I had made an appointment to get a recall item taken care of at the dealer and they took the truck over to the dealer got the recall taken care of so we didn't have to make an extra trip. Great from beginning to finish. I had $6,000 in rear end damage due to an accident and they had it looking brand new in a 3 weeks time. A few miscellaneous dents were buffed out, free of charge and I was given a gift card for 6 weeks worth's of car washes upon finishing, so they could insure the paint was curing properly. They communicated extensively with the insurance company and texted me multiple times per week with updates. Picked me up when the car was finished and were great all around. read more

I moved here from the Bay Area and had changed my license plates only to find out one of my license plate bolts is rusted in and can't be removed. My dad's been in the auto business for 20+ years and told me it's a quick 20-30 minute job. Mechanics in the bay area usually provide this service for free, but running around, I had found Star Body works to be the only 4+ star place around. Told me it was rusted in and it'd take less than an hour to fix, 100%. Then I came back inside and the mechanic said it'd be a 2-3 job. To drill and tab. And they charge $56/h so I was looking at ~$150 to put on my license plate after spending $300 at the dmv to change my damn plates. The cashier gave me an option to do it myself or make an appointment. Ended up making a deal they'd do it between cars but saying it'd be more than an hours worth of work because they want to try to remove it without drilling and tabbing to charge more money. Ended up paying $56, waited 4 hours for a bolt to be removed knowing its a 20 minute job. They gave my car a complementary car wash which cleaned some of my car but did a poor job..? And they gave me a coupon for 3 free car washes. All in all, it was a hassle to talk to one person give you an estimate and someone else gave you a different estimate. Kind of stupid in theory you have to pay $56 to put a license plate on your car. I won't be coming here again. read more

This is the second time in two years I have used Star for repairs. Their work is excellent quality, both times completed early with frequent updates so I was never wondering. The technician even went above and beyond and made a small repair to an unrelated item I had inquired about... taking him just a few minutes and thoroughly impressing me and making my day!! Sarah and Randi provided exceptional customer service, returning calls promptly, explaining everything, and answering all of my many questions with a smile. Sarah went out of her way to make the car rental process with Enterprise smooth and help with a special need I had... and Sarah at Enterprise worked seamlessly with her. My worries were all for naught because the rental went quickly and perfectly, with the special need met. Our vehicle was then completed early. Talk about the run around was in a minor fender bender and they decided to total out my vehicle for 400 dollars worth of parts, wanted to charge 2,000 for labor and 2,000 for paint i would not recommend this body shop and not to mention trying to get a straight answer from anyone talk about a pain in the butt and don't forget that when you sign a paper to give them permission to check the car out you are also giving them permission to literally take the inside and out side of your car apart and then for them to put it back together is a nother pain in the butt talk about the worst month of my life getting the run around.Worst experience of my life. read more

Had my car towed to and repaired by star. From start to finish, everyone I spoke with was an absolute professional. I felt like they always had my best interests in mind and they provided me with a few options and all the info I needed to make my own informed decision (needed to replace my engine and they found me a variety of options from new to refurbished). While my car was in the shop they did an interior detail and buffed some scratches and the headlights. I got my car back looking and feeling new. read more

Star Auto Body in Grants Pass recently fixed my nissan. The guys in the shop did an excellent job, the front office was like dealing with a failed used car salesman. From the onset, the estimator "Robert", was under the assumption that I was going to repair the car myself, and only wanted an estimate to charge my friend who hit me. At least 4 times I emphasized that I wanted an estimate to repair the car completely. I had no intentions of repairing it myself. After dropping the car off and waiting a week, I called for an update, they had not started on my car yet. Again I was asked if I wanted to paint it myself, and stated no. I was then called back and told they could not match the paint, even though I provided them with paint codes from APS who was their supplier. I then provided them with the leftover paint I had which they used to paint the damaged area. I was still charged $250 for paint even though I provided it. Plus the estimate went up almost a $100 for unknown reasons. I was asked at least 3 times how I would be paying. I told them the friend that had hit me gave me a blank check. I was told that would be fine by Robert. When I arrived to pick up my car, I filled out the check, and gave it to Robert. I took my son out to his car, and he got in and started it. Robert came running out, and said is this your name on the check? I said no, it is from the guy who hit me, which I have told you at least 3 times. He then treated me like a criminal and said he could not let me take my car, and they could not accept the check. A day my son was looking forward to became a nightmare as this idiot treated us like car thieves. I paid for the repairs on site and had my friend write me another check. Nothing like dealing with professionals. I will do my best to tell everyone I run into what a cluster f**** this place is till the day I die. read more
