We just moved to Denver and live in an apartment in Stapleton so our dog goes to this park morning and night. He loves it! I actually like the sand b/c it's easier to clean off than regular dirt, especially when wet. I like the other regulars who come to the park because they are laid back and understand regular dog behavior, which may not seem regular to others who don't understand how dogs socialize. Which brings me to my major pet peeve about this park: There are some people who bring their dogs to this park and can't handle their dog getting barked at, humped, wrestled with, etc. Fighting is one thing that I can understand, but my dog is just a playful, high energy guy and is occasionally reprimanded by anal pretentious dog owners for regular dog behavior. I try to hold my tongue, but others don't and I've seen verbal lashings occur between owners. My suggestion is if you're bringing your dog here, or to any dog park for that matter, be prepared for your dog to play rough, get barked at, get humped, get chased, etc. If you can't handle it, or if your dog can't handle it, your dog is better off being walked by him or herself. read more

This dog park is a good size (4 acres) and close to downtown Denver which is great. I'm not in love with the sand...my shoes are filled with it within a few minutes and the place can be pretty stinky on a warm day. I was also appalled by how few people picked up after their dogs. This isn't the fault of the park but rather inconsiderate dog owners. If people picked up after their dogs, this place would be must nicer. Overall: pretty good, don't love the sand. read more

THe actual park was very nice. Sand for the dogs paws and no mud was great! The problem was there were a number of dog fights both days I was there. I hate to say it, but the owners weren't very good about breaking up the fights. I had to rush in to break up a fight and my dogs weren't even involved. read more

Park is awesome to wear your dog out, but we won't take ours anymore since they since this the only place we took them and they got red mange. We love to watch the dogs every day but, there seems to be a lack of respect for the neighbors, hours are sun up to sun down and people are going in with glowing balls and head lamps at all hours of the night. Also many people don't feel the need to leash their dogs from car to park, these people should keep in mind that there are little kids who live and play across the street 1- we don't want an accident, 2. We would feel very bad if our dog felt the need to jump our fence to protect them and ended up fighting with your dog to protect them, please just use a leash people! read more

Me and both my dogs go here almost every day when the weather is nice. They love this park and so do I. The people are almost fairly nice as well. There is a lot of open space and not a lot of shade, but there is some. Bringing your own poop bags and water is a must. The water fountains do not work, but it being a nice area I don't see why this is an issue. At the kids parks around the same area none of the water fountains work there as well. It is nice and convenient for me because it is almost right across from where I live. Some problems are that there isn't a spot for smaller dogs and that would be nice. I have a small dog and a big dog, and my little one has been trampled many times. Another problem is although it is a nice area, some owners are rude. With me having both a big and small dog, my bigger dog thinks she can play with all small dogs. She doesn't mean to terrify them, she thinks she is playing. This occurence has happened once when she doesn't know her own strength, she is still a puppy and still in training, and wants to play with small dogs. I got yelled at by the owner and another dog owner on not handling my dog, but I was doing everything I could to make her stay with me, so I ended up having to leash her the whole time while my little one ran around. When it is your dog doing something at this park everyone is quick to say you are a bad owner, but when it is their dog that is the problem they brush it off. But when my small dog gets trampled the owner's do not care. With a smaller dog area this would prevent those problems. My bigger dog has also been attacked by older dogs and the owners don't say a word. I suggest that if your dog is an over friendly dog and likes to play with all dogs big and small, that you do not go here. I now feel like I cannot take my dog because I defended her and the owners got mad. Everyone's animal has a flaw and people need to accept that. Today there was a german shepherd that tried to play with a smaller dog and the owner of the little dog called the park ranger saying that his dog was attacked. In this area there are more older folk that go to this dog park than young and they all have little dogs or old dogs, if something goes wrong (or so they think) they call the ranger all the time. Unless you want to be judged on how your dog acts I recommend going elsewhere or going early in the morning where there is little to no one there, like I have been doing. I don't mean to be rude or judge this park, I love it, but when my dog gets in trouble for being overly friendly, as i've seen other dogs, there is an issue. Dogs are known to play rough, they all interact differently, so if you as an owner do not understand that, then the dog park isn't for you. I feel like smaller dogs either should get there own side of the park or they shouldn't be allowed. I've been to many dog parks with my little one that did have an area for them. It makes it safer and lets the bigger dogs wrestle without trampling the little ones. I have also seen little dogs going after the big dogs because they have a complex and the big dogs are the ones that get into trouble. This problem is easily fixed without calling the ranger every second of the day complaining about a dog. If you choose to bring your small dog, you should know there are a lot of big dogs that I have seen like mine that will want to play, it is not our fault that your dog cries or whines and acts like it's being attacked. Owner's need to keep in mind also that some dogs at this park are still babies even though they may be big and they are still learning and being trained, instead of yelling at them, help teach them that it is not okay. read more

I've been bringing my dog to Stapleton for months and have never had a problem. However, in the last few weeks the park has been inundated by aggressive dogs and clueless owners. If you're dog becomes aggressive FOR ANY REASON then your dog does not belong in a dog park. Period. Recently, I watched a dog viciously attack another dog because the dog was humping him. The owner just kept saying, "Well, he doesn't like to be humped." Her attitude was if a dog humps here dog they get what they deserve." Really? It's a DOG PARK your dog is GOING TO GET HUMPED by other dogs. Other dogs have no way of knowing YOUR DOG has an issue. If you're dog cannot handle other dogs jumping, instigating, humping or any of the other normal behaviors dogs display while at a dog park then YOUR DOG is NOT SOCIALIZED and does not belong there. I don't know that we'll return to our favorite dog park if these clueless and irresponsible owners continue coming here. read more

5/22/2011- Stapleton Dog Park. I was not that impressed with what I saw at all. We took 3 Chihuhuas and 1 Poodle there. At first it was ok and after being there for only 20 minutes- my Applehead Chihuahua got chased by a middle sized Poodle owned by someone at the park. The other poodle chased and along wirh 5-6 other BIG dogs chased my lil Applehead Chihuahua and cornered him, mouthed him and almost could have ripped him apart. Noone got their dogs or called their dogs and my husband chased and rescued our Applehead Chihuahua while fighting off other dogs in the process. After the fact did other owners call and retrieve their dogs. There needs to be an area at this and other dog parks for lil dogs so this won't happen to anyone else and so there won't be any future mishaps or lawsuits. I do not recommened this Dog Park to anyone and there are other reviews that say about the same thing as far as other BIG dogs and such. Please be careful..
