DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE is my advice to you. My Pomsky's first time to this park today was also her last. She is the most playful and loving dog you'll ever come across and is as submissive as they come. Today as she ran past one dog she was viciously attacked. At first I thought she may have just gotten a bruise after checking her over and seeing no blood. It was hours later that I noticed the dog bite. Rushed her to the vet where they treated her for a very deep & serious puncture wound ($1400). Wish I would have stuck around and gotten the irresponsible dog owners info. Point being, the dog who attacked mine probably goes to that park frequently and will most likely repeat the behavior. Take extreme caution here. We will go elsewhere for now on. I've attached a photo of our 1.5 year old dog at the vet hospital, lest you think I'm overreacting. read more

Not a great park. Besides the physical park (all sand, very little shade, and no water) the real issue is the humans. Too many people with aggressive dogs and the humans do very little to prevent or correct their dogs from fighting. And the number of people who watch their dogs go to the bathroom but won't pick up after them is really sad. It's nice to have a neighborhood off-leash park, but if some of the humans don't start changing their habits, we'll lose the park. read more

This is A HUGE dog park! Lots of space for your little furry friends to roam. The pros: Like I mentioned, the size is huge. Lots of space to fit lots of puppies. The location is pretty convenient and accessible as well. Street parking is available, although most people here live in the surrounding neighborhoods, and just walk from their homes. The cons: ALL sand, no grass. It would be nice to have somewhat of a mixture. I have a small dog (10lbs) and it's really hard for her to navigate so much sand. It also gets in your shoes, on your clothes, and onto whatever else your dog touches (or gets into) next. It's also great at hiding dog poop, so be on the lookout for those landmines! It would also behoove you to bring your own water, as the water fountains/pipes are cut off right now (they say they turn them off during the winter months). Also, bring your own poop bags (as you always should as a precaution anyway), as this park does not keep them in stock. It does have dispensers for them, though. One last point is that people tend to just let their dogs off the leash and go free; which is what a dog park is for. But beware if you have a smaller dog, as the other dogs' owners are usually too entranced in conversation to keep their 100lb dog from bullying or bulldozing your 10lb one. It definitely may take my dog a little to get adjusted to this park. Overall, a pretty decent dog park, but could use some improvement in a few areas. read more

What a terrific dog park for this area in Denver! It's huge and has a little bit of everything. I like that it was made of sand even though my dog got pretty dusty at least it is easy and cheap for the city to maintain and drought tolerant. There are patches of grass as well as semi mature trees that provide shade in the summer months. They also have benches with man-made coverings sort of like a bus stop. Water fountains for humans and dogs available. I didn't really walk outside of the dog park but I think the only bathroom for humans currently is a porta potty which was in the parking lot. Great stop for us to stop as we traveled through Denver with our dog. read more

Once we landed in Denver, my boyfriend and I had our priorities down. First we got lunch. Then we headed straight for the dog park so our husky could wear himself out before we checked into our hotel. Stapleton Dog Park was nearby, and the size of land was astounding! Coming from San Francisco, that's not saying much. There's plenty of parking and place for the pups to play. It's basically one giant dirt lot... With some fire hydrants to pee on. There are benches for humans, but everyone seems to mostly stand. Speaking of the humans, they don't seem to be conversational here, and I assumed that was the Denver culture. Who knows? Also by observation, we have to bring our own water, which sadly we didn't. There aren't any hoses or fountains. Or at least we didn't see any by the entrance. Again as a couple from San Francisco, perhaps we should have done more research on the "customs" here. We went to a few other dog parks in Colorado, all of which we liked better than this one, but it seems to have a nice group of regulars. It's a good starter park, and I'm glad we worked our way up during the rest of our trip! read more

This is a nice, large dog park. I like that it has benches with overhead shade. It doesn't have a ton of shade, but compared to other dog parks in the area it's pretty shady. It's a bit farther for me than other parks, but I prefer it when we have the time! My only complaint is that people allow their dogs to dig here and don't fill in the holes. Overall I really like this dog park. My only issues would be that there's very little shade and don't bring your small kids! That rule is stated on the sign at least at one or two of the enter an Ed. I understand that lots of people have kids and dogs but, take them to a human park maybe? Or separately take them.. heres the thing.. Your little kid could get ran into, knocked over, and yes-- some dogs don't like little kids just running up and grabbing their ears.. so they could bite? Why put that possibility out there? This is a dog park. Not a park for children. I've had to leave several times because a family will show up with small kids running all over. My dog likes dogs and people, but she's a rescue and I have no idea how she'd react to a child. The issue isn't a small human, it's how unpredictable they are. They run up and touch, and the parents think it's cute but really it's an invasion of the dogs personal space. I shouldn't have to dodge a kid for twenty minutes because you the parent, won't get your kid to stop coming after my dog. Otherwise, no issues so far at this park. I had wanted to check out a dog park I had not been to before. So I contacted the Duchess (Jenn B.) about going, convinced a friend with a dog sadly in need of socialization to come, and we set up a doggy play date. This park was not what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised. When I hear the word sand, I think dried out and poorly maintained (like a few parks I have been to). Instead, this was like taking your dog to the beach, if you ignore the fact that there is no ocean. Just keep that mental image in your head, instead of asking, "Hey, isn't this basically a giant litter box?", and you will do just fine. The dog owners here seem as friendly and easy to get along with as their dogs. The place is large enough to do laps within. I was worried the sand would be an issue (clinging to paws and coats) but it was not that bad. I think the sandy surface allows the dogs to expend more energy while providing a softer surface for spills and crashes. There were multiple entrances to the area, and plenty of bags and trash cans. read more

I'm honestly not sure when this dog park took a turn for the worst. I have been coming here for a year and a half and have had no problems. Except for today a man who was twice my size decided that it was OK to get in my face and start screaming at me because my dog was barking at his dog through the fence. I am a very small framed female I don't know who told this huge guy that it was OK to get in a woman's face like that but if this is the type of people that is in the Stapleton area I will not be going back to this dog park. read more

Now that I've been in Denver 1+ years, I feel as though I can now say my pup and I love this dog park. It's a sand based dog park and is always in great condition. My pup runs her tail off and plays with all her pup friends. It has become a dog park family. We all know each other and the dogs, most of the time we know each other by our pups names - not a big deal since our pups are our kids. My pup leaves tired and hungry, the best thing for an owner to see, her dog passed out on the floor after an hour at the dog park with her dog family. This is a great local dog park and such a wonderful place to socialize and let pups romp around. I come here 5-6 times a week and sometimes more than once a day. This was my first time ever hauling the woof machine out to Stapleton for playtime. I had mixed feelings, although she was a happy (and tired) furball at the end of our afternoon. We were there on a Friday (late afternoon). Plenty of parking, several entrances, and lots of friendly pups and their well-behaved humans. Compared to other reviewers, I didn't have a problem with the "sand" approach to the dog park. My Aussie is very good at tearing up her paws from running on sidewalks/trails/rocky terrain, so the sand was a welcome change for her princess feet! The only issue is that doggy #2s can get lost in the sand piles and leave you with unexpected surprises on your shoe. Which leads to a gentle reminder to dog parents, PLEASE pick up after your dog, and bring fresh water and pick-up bags to share with others (we're all in this together so we can enjoy the parks). The dog and I loved this dog park! It's big and well kept. Most of it is sand with a few small trees. We visited late morning on a Saturday and it was pretty busy but the park was long enough we could have found some private space to play if we wanted. The people and their dogs here were wonderful! Everyone was friendly and my dog made lots of friends. There is a trail of sorts along the length of the fence with some covered park benches on concrete slabs. Plenty of water bowls near these benches as well as a fountain near the main entrance. My dog was full of sand when we left which I didn't mind but something to keep in mind when you're planning a visit. 5 stars from us! read more

His Park has plus and minus. It is huge so if you have a puppy that is still learning it can be good and bad. Good that they have tons of room to run, bad because they can run so far. Love this park! Just don't go after the snow melts or obviously after the rain bc it can get pretty muddy considering it's mostly sand. When you go around those implements. It's awesome it does have sand bc it's easier on the joints and hips for pups to run on compared to hard ground surfaces. My pup is always super excited when he gets to go and does really good! He is super submissive so he is never the problem. But you have to keep an eye on other pups and of course your own. If you notice the owners simply allow their dog to try n dominate your dog or others around. Speak up and say something! I'm good at noticing cues of my pets and dogs in general. So I don't hesitate to say something & neither should you! I've never had any issues besides one lady who's dog kept trying to dominate mine telling me my dog should be neutered & that's the rules. I obliged since I'm new and didn't know any better but when I came back next time. I read the rules and it says nothing about your dog needing to be neutered. && I'm simply not going to neuter my dog! He's a show pup (conformation) and he's NEVER the problem. So next time I see homegirl. She can get a blunt F**k OFF! Have fun and be prepared for some love-able dogs demanding your attention! You don't like the sand? Tough luck because chance is... your dog LOVES it. 3. You find a rogue poop now and again? HURR DURR, it's four acres large and sorry but unless you feel like sprinting the four acres back and forth the whole time alongside your dog... Chances are you might miss something now and again. Be the bigger man and clean it up when you see it like I do. It's not hard. You scratch my back I scratch yours. That's change at a community level, whodathunk... 4. No shade? boo hoo. stand by the tree, bring a parasol, or *wear a hat* if the sun is inconveniencing your day. Welcome to Being Outside 101, I'll be your professor... 5. You wish there was more grass? Do you think your dogs care that much about it not having grass? Dog poop is much easier to clean up out of sand than it is on grass. Blessings come in strange ways sometimes. 6. It's not partitioned off into separate areas for small dogs? #whitewhine at it's finest. That being said, here is the second part of the review. I love this place, my dogs love this place, and it's ran by the community overall. You get what you put into it. I'm pretty sure we've beaten the topic to death on Yelp, but yes... It's sand. Your desired end state of bringing your dogs here is to wear them out, exercise them, and socialize them correct? Have you ever ran in sand? It's pretty strenuous. It wears your dogs out in no time, be thankful. That being said, the sand took care of two of those goals. There is almost always dog poop baggies available. Most people bring extras and leave them there for the community, pretty neat. The place is ginormous for a dog park which is great especially for large breed dogs like my Alaskan Malamutes. It was not made with toy breed dogs in mind, so think rationally people. If your dog was bred to be cute inside of a purse, or smaller than/equal to the size of a house cat... This is probably not the best place to bring your pet. Keep them inside and let the dogs be dogs here. There is almost always a great amount of different dogs here. Rule of thumb is, if people bring their dogs to a dog park, they're amiable enough to be around other dogs. Rarely is this rule broken, but it happens. That's reality. Every time I've been here there has been a host of dogs of all sizes (mainly medium/large to XXL breeds) with owners responsible enough to look after their own dogs, as well as yours. The one thing I think could be improved upon is water availability. I bring a gallon with me for my dogs/the community every time I go there, and so do most people. But it would be nice to have a functional tap there Overall, this is the largest free community dog park I've encountered. The pros outweigh the cons infinitely and all of the "cons" can be answered by simply looking out for one another, lending a helping hand, and using a couple dashes of common sense. If you want a great place to bring your dog to socialize, play, and bring home a happy pup... This is your place. read more

I have an 80 pound puppy (Bernese Mountain Dog) so we need to get her out and about regularly to let her run and pounce and play because a) she'll do that in our house if we don't and b) she also starts digging if we don't give her exercise. So, Stapleton Dog Park is one of our more regular destinations. It's a really big dog park so that's nice because there is plenty of room to run around and usually quite a few dogs for her to play with. The biggest downside is that it's suuuuper sandy. I always leave with sand in my shoes and stuck to my clothes. Big dog + slobber + sand = a big mess. But, it's kept pretty clean in general (read: rarely have I seen left-behind dog poops) and there are water fountains with dog bowls by them so those are nice touches. And there is an age limit, no one under 12 is allowed in. So, it'll continue being a regular destination for us, at least until Ellie runs out of steam. read more

Just as non-smokers never get the joy of huddling around a flame in the dark of January, so do cat people never get the pleasure of standing in the wind-swept expanse that is Stapleton Dog Park, in blizzarding snow, watching dogs play. It's a beautiful experience. This place is dog heaven. It's huge, it's sandy (not muddy), and it's perfect for dogs who get cooped up in the winter time because bad, wussy owners skimp on walks when it's below zero. Sorry, Chelita. Usually there are bags available, and water dishes that are... totally gross. Bring your own. More important than the space itself, this place is frequented by large dog people who understand that dogs are there to brawl, not sit nicely, do tricks, and have tea. This is where dogs get to just be dogs- they can bare teeth, run laps, chase balls, body slam beta dogs, and basically just do their thing. Folks, Fair Warning: this is probably not the best spot to take small dogs or puppies. read more

I don't have a doggie of my own (yet), but I love coming here on warm days to creep people out by sitting silently and watching their dogs play. I know it's weird, but I'm an apartment-dweller and it wouldn't be fair for me to get a dog yet - but I still have to have my fix! I also like to perch above the rubber fruit play area at The Cherry Creek Mall and watch the spastic kids running around, so apparently there's a pattern here....Moving on. The Stapleton dog park would benefit from a little grass and maybe a pond or something, but it's nice and big for a city dog park and the pups seem to have a fantastic time playing there. There's a distinct odor of pee that's soaked into the dirt lot - not sure if anyone ever rakes this place up and throws some more sand down. But, if you're purposely going to a location where dozens of dogs run around freely, you're going to expect a little pee stank. What always amazes me is that the dogs are rarely interested in the tons of people there - they'll barrel toward you, looking like they're about to knock you down, then take one sniff, realize you're not a dog and move on to find their next play partner. I also enjoy watching the politics unfold between particularly yappy and aggressive small dogs and the lumbering big sweeties that are just trying to play. I've only seen a few fights break out here, and the owners are always on it in two seconds and know how to get their dogs to calm down. I'm impressed with how safe it feels with so many dogs running around. Looking forward to the spring so I can return to the benches to creep all of you out! read more

An expansive dog park with plenty of room for your dog to run, walk, roam, sniff, play, and frolick. Indeed- grass doesn't gave a ling life when there's chronic dog poo involved, but a dog park consisting mainly if sand can be quite irritating. It gets everywhere and us incredibly difficult to expunge from every crease and crevasse in you car, house, and clothes. I even had sand between my toes. I was wearing closed toed shies. Not bad. Lots of dogs to play with here. Probably not the best for small or timid dogs since they don't have their own area. Very sandy and dusty. Avoid on windy days or right after a rain or snow melt. Lots of pretentions people here on my visit bragging about their trip to Vail while another two were disturbing the peace on their cell phones. There is a water fountain here at the entrance near the tennis courts and it has a dog level bowl. There are also community pots that people fill with their own water. Three separate entrances and on street parking. Not horrible but not the best. I'd probably come back because of the shear number of dogs that use the park. Denver needs more off-leash parks and the use of this one shows why. Denver also needs to consider supplying more potty stations if they want to make sure people will clean up after their pets. I gave it another star because I do like the sand now that I think about it. It tires my dog out a lot faster. She also seems to enjoy the number of dogs here. So I'd recommend it, still probably not for small or timid dogs because we want our dogs to be dogs and not to have to watch out for a small dog to get trampled. For the lady who was surprised kids are not welcome here under 12 - that is common among all the area parks from Brighton, Commerce City, Thornton and here. Under 12 should not be there - they don't know how to tell a dog NO or knock them down and they take off running which dogs find a nice game of chase. Since most of you won't watch your kids I shouldn't have to when I am in an area specifically for dogs - not kids. read more

Honestly, I wasn't sure how great it would be because of the fact that it's 100% sand. When they say sand, it's really sand... the beach minus the water. However, it turned out great! My dog tired out MUCH faster from running in the sand and the park is so large that there's definitely ample running space for even the biggest dogs. However with that said, I definitely would not bring small dogs here as there is no area set aside for just them. The day that I was there, all the dogs were at least the size of a lab, some that day seemed to have some growly tendencies, but nothing too alarmingly aggressive. They do have poop bags near the entrance gates with trashcans nearby. Even so, you do run into poop since there are just lazy people out there. One good thing though was that since it's all sand, the poop doesn't stay moist very long and it's much easier to clean up after your own dog as well since it doesn't smear or stain the grass in any way. I would also bring your own water. They do have some bottles of water on the benches but I wouldn't count on it always being there. The area is also very residential and nice, definitely a park I'll be frequenting. The only downside for me was they have a small area of what looked like sewage water or something. They tried to fence around it but the water slowly creeps out to one side creating a pool of water that my dog decided to drink and splash in. When I took a closer look, it was just a pool of stagnant water covered in green algae - I just wished they blocked it off better so that I didn't have to take home a wet dog covered in sand. read more

One of the nicer parks Ive been to. Having a white dog, he tends to get pretty dirty at most dog parks; however, the sand at Stapleton Dog Park is great in that he comes home pretty clean and, most importantly, exhausted. Everybody Ive met has been very friendly and pretty laid back. I did see an old lady get taken out by a mastiff and a great dane scuffle, but she was helped up and she shook it off like no big deal. This park doesnt provide poop bags so some dog owners will tie up plastic garbage bags to the fence. Unfortunately, the city comes by and takes them down because they dont like the way it looks from the street....so bring your bags. read more

I give this place 4.5 stars. Stapleton Dog Park loses half a star because the water fountains do not work, and since they have the room, there should be a small dog section. Otherwise this place rocks! I have two medium (40 & 50 lbs) size dogs that love to run and play. This park is so huge they can't even cover the whole park in one visit. It is mostly dirt, completely fenced in and has several shady spots for hotdogs and hothumans. You should bring your own water and poop bags for the pups, but people seem to regularly donate water jugs and bags to the park. I am so glad to be close to this place. read more

One of the reasons this park gets a 3 star from me is because it isn't so close to my house. It is near my school though, too bad I can't take my babies to class with me. The second reason is that they don't always have the water fountains on, even during the summer. The park is pretty much dirt and sand, but that is ok with me. My dog Leia is a little fluffy white dog and not much of a carouser. She generally just acquiesces to any dog that challenges her. The owners at this park are pretty good about keeping control of their pets. I have only had one pretty bad experience here where a grumpy old guy with two piranha Dachsunds did not have the slightest idea how to manage his dogs. One of his dogs walked up and lunged at my dogs throat and I grabbed her before he could make contact and the damn dog bit me!!! The owner didn't even say I'm sorry. He just walked of with his little bullies. That is one experience out of probably 20 though, so it doesn't taint my perception because it could have happened at any dog park. read more

My doggie Ralphie loves this place. Yes it's a big sandbox, but trust me it's a much better surface than actual dirt. When Ralphie was a puppy, he would get a bit dirty being slobbered on by the other bigger dogs and then rolling around in the sand. Now that he's grown up, he doesn't really get all that dirty. It seems that the parks with dirt surfaces always result in a bath afterward, no matter what. I love the vibe at this park. Everyone is super friendly and most of the dogs are well-behaved and nice. On occasion, a not so socially developed dog will come and may cause some trouble. But owners here are typically proactive and stop issues before they become big problems. There are a lot of nice people here who randomly drop off water and balls for ALL the dogs to use. However, I would definitely recommend bring water for your little guy just to be safe. The park is a lot bigger than many of the other ones in Colorado and I think that plays a big part in the overall happy attitude the doggies have when they come here. There are many regulars at this park and I try to make a drive down there at least once a week. read more

Best dog park that isn't cherry creek/chatfield dog park. Water fountains work in summer but are winterized in winter (obliviously). Most people are very good about watching their dogs and keeping them under control. I have lived next to the park for 4 years and many of the same people are there which is a nice little fellowship. This dog park is huge, which is great when you have two Siberian huskies that love to run, but I'm not a fan of there not being a separate area for small dogs and large dogs, like most dog parks I've been to in the past. If your small dog has a little man (or woman) complex and acts aggressive towards larger dogs or is scared of larger dogs, that's not anyone else's or our dogs' faults, so don't treat us as though our dogs have done something wrong for trying to play... at a dog park. The first and only time we came here, another dog was aggressive towards our boy when we first entered the park, and even though we were in the process of breaking the situation up, I kid you not, the owner ran over and stomp kicked the dog and started yelling at it right in front of my husband and I and several others. I was speechless. We'd love to visit regularly, but I don't want to deal with other owners that don't understand that dogs sometimes play rough, but just like humans, not all dogs will get along and how to recognize the difference. Sadly we usually end up with some sort of nasty look or comment combo about our huskies. If you don't understand a breed, please educate yourself before you judge what you do not know. read more

This dog park makes both me and my dog happy. I recently adopted the sweetest pooch around and was a little hesitant when my girlfriends suggested a date at the dog park for the ladies and our furry friends over the very first weekend I owned him. Little did I know that this gem of a dog park was so close to our guys! For a dog park, this space is quite large. Yes, it's sand, but that's the norm. Plus, I've seen my fair share of digging dogs having their fun. There is usually at least one group playing fetch. Sure, you may hear a snap or two, but it's usually just dogs playing around and doing their own thing. Humping happens occasionally, but hey, they're dogs, right?! As for the owners, I've had nothing but good experiences. If you want to chat, plenty of other owners do too. If you want to walk the perimeter solo or with your pooch, that's an option. Now that it's so much colder out, plenty of people bring gallon jugs of water to contribute to the dog dishes. Much appreciated. Do your part and contribute when you can too! Beautiful park. It was huge and had enough space for pups and owners. It was not a good fit for me yorkie. I didn't see any small dogs and they didn't have a small dog area. Looks nice for big dogs. read more

I wish I could leave 5 star review. First of all unless your an adult that doesn't have a job good luck. No kids under twelve. A lady let me know in a not so nice tone as I was leaving with my toddler. I later read the long list of rules and found it there about 50 rules in... The dogs here are great and so are some of the humans. Seemed a little snobby for my taste though. Hey but that's okay cause I let you pet my "pretty" dog. I also found that this park is not the best place for a germaphobe. It's all sand and smells terrible. Poop everywhere and wet sand leaves me wondering if it's pee or rainwater. A good snaitization of myself, kid and dog was a must. I guess when they say you get what you pay for this is true in the Stapelton Dog Park's case since it's free.. If you want to actually pay and really enjoy yourself go to Cherry Creek in Aurora. It huge and pure with nature. My dog fit in great with all the other sporting breeds you'll find there. read more

Huge dog park in a nice area of town for our two pups to run around. While the terrain is sand, the dogs seems to enjoy it and I think it helps them burn off more energy. We just so happened to make our first visit hours before there was a big dog brand sponsored event going on. The event staff were friendly and kept urging us to stay or come back for the event going on a little later in the day. All types of dogs and dog owners come here and everyone seems to enjoy. We don't love the idea of sand, I get worried with my adventurous corgi that she'll stick her head in a hole and get trapped, but the park is absolutely gigantic and fenced in giving our dogs plenty of space to run. Looking forward to returning soon for some more puppy fun! read more

Great dog park!!! We've tried the one by East HS and the Lowry dog park and this one wins hands down. The most important thing for me is that this park has great owners and plenty of dogs. Lowry is very nice but frequently has very few dogs. The one by East has now been taken down but had very fussy owners. Stapleton is great for all kinds of dogs, but big dogs do very well there. Primarily because the owners are ok with rougher play and monitor their dogs while they play. In the 2 years we've been going to Stapleton we haven't had any issues with aggression. A great place to go for your dog. read more

This dog park is huge but it's sand and not grass. The sand gets in your shoes when walking around and all over your dog too so be ready to get sand everywhere! It's always pretty crowded so be ready when you get there. There is no division for dog sizes either. We've taken our little almost 7 pound yorkie here a few times and have not had any issues. When we took her this time, there was dog fight after dog fight. It was actually kind of scary. The dogs are usually well behaved and owners have a good sense of when the dogs are having fun and when it's about to get too far. There usually is a lot of dog poop around and this time I noticed I didn't even see one so it's getting better! This place is great if you have a big dog that needs to burn some energy but I would not recommend it for little dogs at all. We won't be taking our little princess back. read more
