Adj: Expansive, but sometimes Expensive, except for the Bin Wins Staples has become a little bit of more things each time I stop by. Today was another Amazon return, just a small item. The Hubby told me about the bins in the back so after checking out Party City displays again (graduation season is almost here apparently) and a quick look at phone cases, I took some time to go "treasure hunting" at the back of the store since it happened to be a Thursday and everything drops down to the lowest price of the week. Bin wins is what this section called, the bargain hunting, "falling prices"-like bins. Very interesting and truly a mish mash of items, a real deal seeking and random finds type of experience. I ended up finding some cute erasers from Valentines day that comes with little boxes that I plan to save to fill with candies and give the INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED (wasteful but perfect in this case) animal erasers to the Samaritan's Purse Operation Child Christmas Shoeboxes project or a church we know who goes to Mexico at least once a year with similar Christmas shoeboxes filled with gifts for children in very hard to reach areas of Mexico. So that was a perfect find. There was just so much very random and some bizarre items, and of course items from as far back as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas so that Valentine's Day items seemed not so long ago, lol. Still it was kind of fun. I even found a box of individually wrapped ginseng and other Chinese herbs tea and dried fruits and goji berries that even have little bags to put them into for infusing/ steeping, that should be a healthy tea. One thing you can do is check for reviews on Amazon since these items are all returns or overstocks from there. The tea had good reviews and were still being sold online. Overall, it was a fun but kind of overwhelming experience as there were like 6 large bins or so, and while there was quite a lot of repeats, the FOMO was strong and caused me to want to check everything in every bin (almost). Hubby was right, it was strange in a good way, but the deals are there if you took the time and happen upon some things that you actually need and which have been discounted deeply. It is very much like falling prices according to a friend, but I've not gone there yet so I can't say for myself yet. At Staples, who knew?! read more

Staples is usually just an office supply store, right? Yes. But now it's much more than that. While going to return a couple of items from Amazon for the family, I decided to wander around and window shop a bit. What do you know? There's a new thing going on. Yup, a new feature at an old store, that makes it maybe worth visiting more frequently. Starting every Friday, bins in the back area filled with Amazon (and maybe a few other vendors') leftover stuff for $15 and going down each day until on Thursdays what remains gets priced down to $2. Really anything can be in these bins from holiday decorations to clothing to even phone protective cases. I'm going every Friday to check the bins in the back now. That aside, this is the place for office equipment and free e-wasting for electronics. We were helped by Robert today when doing the Amazon returns and then again when purchasing a few of the bargain bin finds, and he was an excellent and super friendly associate. Props to him for his great customer service, positive attitude, and hope we see him more in the future. read more

I absolutely love this Staples location! Anytime I need a banner or poster printed, this is my go to spot. The online ordering process is super easy. I can upload my images directly to the products I need, and everything is clear and simple. They're always quick with my orders, and I've never had an issue when picking anything up. Even if there's a line, it moves fast. The print jobs come out bright and high quality every time. And if they notice something looks off, they make sure it gets fixed before handing it over. I am greeted when I walk in and an employee checks in with me to offer assistance if I need it. I was informed about their recycling program with markers so I have been saving my inked out markers to take them in. I appreciate when businesses do this. They need to get more help specifically for the Amazon returns. It's not fair to the customers or the employees that the cash register person is expected to go and handle Amazon returns after cash register transactions. No matter what there is a customer that has to wait. It makes the employees grumpy and rude and guess who that spills over to yep you got it the customer! I take all of my Amazon returns there and I'm tired of being treated poorly because their management makes one person do the job that two people should be doing. I know the easy thing to do is just to go somewhere else for my returns, but I think the greater lesson here is that customer service is a very important role and Staples needs to get better at theirs. went to the Elk Grove ,Stockton Blvd store on Friday, March 6 and felt unfairly treated by a clerk. I called for the manager. The manager came and was ruder and cut me offf stating that he would help me and he would do it for free every time I would start to talk he would talk over me I I'm going to do it and I'm doing it for free. I had sought for service .at the counter he clerk said he couldn't find my other item on the computer and ask me 2 resend it and started to help others . When I received the code I moved close to the counter do that I could be helped and then all of a sudden told me that I could get the help that I needed at the self service, he said this while helping another customer I called for the manager,the manager didn't really listen to my complaint but told me he was going to help me for FREE and took me to self service where a lady was making @ 30 copier and only 1 machine was working the manager made me wait for over a half an hour a portion of that time he was charging up my iPad went and other cashiers. One of them had helped me earlier in the day and gave me excellent service. I finally tired of waiting, picked up my stuff and left the helped other customers that came in after me and sent them on their way. They were asking for self serve I was asking for counter service. He actually took them to the counter, had the clerk to help them while I waited for somebody to finish at the self service I had waited long enough. I wasn't feeling well and I was tired. Awful service. As someone who has shopped with Staples for over 10 years, I am disgusted with this location! The managers seem to be training every time I go in, with the same people. I'm sorry but if we are still training after 3 months it gets to a point. I came in earlier today for an amazon return, the young asian man looked blankly at me. Came to drop off some electronics as I read online they take them for free. Went into the store and was told their bins are full and they couldn't accept anymore electronics at this time. This location keeps improving its services and has become a great place for many things. I dropped off some e-waste and received a $5 store credit. The best and most reasonable service is their short run printing. I've bought printing throughout my career but the digital age has made it convenient for some good and bad suppliers but this shop is very well run. For my little 340 pieces it was the best purchase. The paper choices are limited but what they keep on hand is just beautiful. They turned my project around the same day, and because I registered with their app I received a huge discount. It can't perform some of the unconventional folds or folds on heavy cover stock but for small runs I managed it on my own. I've also used this stores' shredding service but my only concern is that the short staff cannot secure in its dumpsters immediately and my documents end up sitting on top of the receptacles behind the counter until they have time. Despite my previous bad experience, I chose to give this store one more try. I came in with a digital file of a picture that I wanted printed. I went over in detail with the sales representative the printing options we selected various aspects such as paperweight and lamination. She quoted me a price of $66 and I came back today to pick it up. They printed it incorrectly without lamination and they mounted it on foam core. When I pointed out the mistake, she said that lamination was not ordered. I told her they made a mistake and I asked her if she could laminate it and she said yes. That made me happy until she told me that I would be charged an additional $16 for the lamination. So in true fashion at Staples, they made a mistake in with zero customer service did not offer to fix the mistake which would cost them less than a dollar they tried to charge me to fix their mistake. Anyone looking for printing services I've heard that Walgreens on Freeport does an excellent job for half the price. read more

This is a convenient location and I can recommend it for basic office supplies (ink, pens/pencil, paper, usb Ports, printers). Grab and go stuff. However, I've been consistently frustrated and disappointed in their self-serve copy station. Even when I was the only person there, the machines still don't work quickly, efficiently, or at all. I had a ton of stuff to copy as I'm trying not to burn through all my ink during wfh. It took forever and a day....like literally 5 minutes to print a 2 page document from a usb. I had a ton of docs to print and tried to stay patient...was there for 40 minutes and printed about 150 pages. Ridiculous. That's inefficient and kinda scary when I'm trying not to stay in a store for a long time during COVID. The staff is nice, but it can't make up for inefficient and clunky old xerox machines. I sent this review to Staples corporate based on my experience and thought I would share it with you all: I was in the store today at 12:15. When I walked in, I saw two associates at the front. I did not receive a greeting, which wouldn't be expected but it's relevant because of the incident and indicative of what's to come. I had three items in my arms that I was returning for Amazon. I said, "I am here for Amazon returns, do I go here?" and I gestured to a table area to my left. "Go over there," an employee responded. The employee in question was a short heavy set Asian female in her 20s. I walked over to the copy/scan area where there was a sign that stated, "Amazon Returns," and waited for my turn. The nice employee at the copy/scan desk let me know someone would be with her shortly. Great! After she acknowledged me, the short heavy set Asian female marched over from the cashier area to the Amazon return desk. As she was walking over, she was frowning and huffing/puffing and stuck her index finger out pointing at the "Amazon return" desk, then abruptly says, "Over there." I thought to myself, "I'm not an animal, don't talk to me like that," but I also need my returns processed and refund issued. I walk up to the counter and was waiting for her to give instructions. She condescendingly says, "you can put your stuff down." I follow her instructions and pull up the barcode for the first item. The employee rudely takes my item, puts the label on, and throws the item into the box. She then proceeds to stand at the computer with the scanner gun and stare at the screen. We are both standing there for what seems like an eternity - maybe 10 seconds. She does not make eye contact but is looking annoyed at her screen. Finally, she says, "ok, do you want to return the other items?" At this point, I dropped my politeness and said, "well of course, why do you think I'm here?" She says, "I don't know, I was waiting for you." I replied, "well why didn't you say that?" She then started to aggressively scan my Amazon return codes and putting the labels on my other two items. She was also aggressively tossing the items into the return box. Finally, she gives me my receipt after hurrying away from the desk and says, "that coupon is not good for ink," and walks away. I just left the store and no employee said anything to me. Long story short, I hope you're aware that you have a lot of competition: Walmart, Amazon, Office Depot, and other retailers. This particular Staples location is not very busy. With employees like that, I wouldn't be surprised if this Staples has a, "going out of business sale," soon. Thanks for listening to my feedback and I hope you take it seriously because at this point, I'm not sure I'll ever use that coupon because I would likely take my business elsewhere if employees like that exist. read more
