Contrasted with my recent experience at the copy and print shop on 330 7th Avenue in Manhattan, Park Slope's Staples super center falls painfully short of satisfactory. My trip here was necessitated by the fact that someone hadn't spell checked the names of award recipients BEFORE I created the awards. Also, the frames I'd been provided were 8 x 10", and I had a stack of 24 certificates that were 8.5 x 11". Completely paranoid, I called first to make sure that I could use the printing station with a gift card and use a paper cutter for free at their self-service work area. Walked down to the place, which shared a desolate lot with PepBoys behind a chain link fence. Right away, I knew the service here was complete crap, because I accidentally thought that a girl at a table was at her proper place at a customer service desk. When I timidly walked up, she said, "Sorry, ma'am, you're not allowed to step behind the counter." She then waited what to me seemed like a deliberate amount of extra time before getting up from doing NOTHING to help me. She seemed to have a smirk on her face, but she pretty much seemed like a teenager, so I tried to cut her slack. She told me offhandedly that the printing computers would accept my gift card (though I already knew this wasn't true), then told me that I couldn't print heavyweight paper in the laser printer because if it jammed, I'd be held liable. She also told me that to submit ONE PAGE for printing by their industrial grade printers, I'd have to submit it as a job with one day turnaround minimum. I didn't have one whole day to get this done, so I told her I'd take my chances on the laser printer. I realize that the content of what she was telling me was what she in turn was told by management, but it was the WAY she said it. When I asked to see a manager, she just repeated her justification for why she was saying what she was saying. She remained behind her desk, about 30 feet away from the computer. I asked her where the manual feed was. She told me to pull the printer out from the console. I didn't know what she was talking about, because there was this huge printer. In a fraction of the time it took her to patronize me and tell me from a distance what to do, she could have just fucking walked a few steps over and done her job and helped me. "Could you please help me," I said feebly, and she smirked, "I'm helping you right now. I'm telling you how to do it." Thank goodness that a bit later, I got a different girl came to help me, setting me up with a card to count my time and prints for payment with a gift card later. But she ran off ASAP, too, and when I asked her what tray to select under printing properties, she strained to hear me, unwilling to leave her seat behind the counter. I printed the damn page without issue, then spent the next hour cutting slivers off of all the certificates to fit them to the frames that were waiting back at home. Again, no one was around, so I had to ask some customer - apparently an architect - to show me what was what. I was so happy to LEAVE the place, but ended up having to come back a couple hours later because of another inconsistency in a name. The same snide girl whom I'd first encountered was there, and just sneered at me, while another guy slooooowwwwwwlllllly finished someone's order. At the first moment that he looked up from his "work," I asked if I could get a card for the printer. After a too-long pause, he said, "Just give me a second, okay?" But already, I got that helpless feeling. Another girl walked by. I said, "Excuse me?", and I KNOW SHE HEARD ME, but she ignored me and power walked away. So I was left to watch the snide girl and the slow guy slowly be slow and do fucking nothing, really. Finally, the guy gave me a card, so I raced to the printer, did my thing, and came back. I'm all for the employment of America's youth, but I think at least one of these employees should receive more rigorous training or make way for the leagues of hungrier people who are ready to snap-to and be somewhat of a help. Two stars just for the fact that (1) the location was a walkable distance from my home, and (2) it had a large self-service area with equipment (tape, paper cutters, rulers) free for the using. I will avoid this place from now on, or if I'm forced to go and see the same b.s., I will actually file a complaint with the manager despite the time cost to my own life. read more

My review is just for the Copy & Print services! First of all, I love coming to this place, because I almost feel like I'm in the suburbs, thanks to lack of tall buildings nearby & the big parking lot. I personally love the location because a) I live really close to it and b) it's right across the street from a huge art store (I usually go to both hand-in-hand). When I graduated from college and moved to New York, I realized I didn't have anywhere to print my art anymore! Staples is perfect for that. I always send my prints over through their website and choose same-day pick up. The prints are always ready when I get there. It's always the same guy working (I tend to go nights), and I wish I remembered his name - he is SO helpful & nice! He always lets me check the prints to make sure they're okay, and then he rolls them up really neatly. One thing that's great is that they're never rolled up too tight - this keeps them nice & flat and easy to work with when framing. The colors always come out beautifully. There may be a lot of places to print in New York, but I trust Staples with everything! Also, I really appreciated their extended hours during the Christmas season! Yeah, the employees on this particular morning were not the happiest bunch of campers. I ordered a printer cartridge online and the cashier seemed terribly put out by that. Then she didn't seem to be excited that I had 7 HP cartridges I was turning in. So I bought a small Bluetooth speaker here, and after about 5 weeks of occasional use. 2 Times per week, it stopped holding a charge. I brought it in with a receipt, and was told by a manager, via a cashier, that I should've bought an extra warranty. After asking if there was anything they could do, they flat out said no. I have been working on a project for non-profit organization and I have been unbelievable impressed by the staff at this Staples' Copy & Print Center. They have really made it easy to print over 40 posters, hundreds of flyers, programs and a variety of other items needed for the event. The department manager, Michael Pruitt, really has a great handle on what his department can (and can't) do and how fast they can get it done. The rest of the store isn't as organized as it should be and at this time of year the school supplies are a picked-over mess, but this didn't stand in the way of having a really good experience with a very complicated printing project. Although they may cost a bit more than some smaller operations, I also am appreciate that their hours are better than many of the local printers and that they are open 7 days a week. That was probably the biggest reason I decided to work with them in the first place. read more

If the world was ending and I had to print out a simple 8.5x11in, black and white image with instructions how to escape and survive the impending doom then I WOULD NOT GO TO THIS STAPLES. And if the world was on the brink of destruction and Staples was the only place that had a printer... I would go here just to save my life. BUT guaranteed their printer would mess up a simple black and white 8.5x11 print out. And I would die anyway, thanks to staples. This place is depressing, the copy/print center is unhelpful and worthless. In short the last place you'd want to spend your time or money. Stay away. Even Fed Ex/Kinkos is better. Or nearby there's Copy Cottage...more expensive but so much better. I wish I was allowed to give no stars for this place. First of all, the folks that work there harass you to get insurance on the products and give you and attitude when you decline ... And then persist to tell it again to you. What kind of customer service is that. Also, we have been here three instances to buy a product and try to get price match. Yes , key word was TRY. Because everytime we try , they find some absurd reason not to deliver. Difficult and unpleasant. Staples, I am not sure if this store should speak for your company's reputation. I was very concerned about being able to buy the last HP-brand printer they had available. Gus and Jeff were extremely accommodating and helpful as they agreed to hold it for me for the one day where I would have access to a car. Gus let me know my warranty options and never seemed like he was pressuring me into buying anything other than what I felt I needed. I have never written a negative review for anything in my life. Until my visit to the 4th Ave Staples today, I really had moral qualms with negative reviews in general. People mess up and the Internet is forever. But the Print and Marketing department here is utterly atrocious. I came to pick up 16 copies of a 70 page document, I was handed one of their large cardboard totes filled with pages. I confirmed with their salesperson that the tote did in fact contain all my copies. She assured me it was all there. I later discovered (once already in Manhattan), that 5 copies were missing. I called, was on hold for forever, and was non-chalantly informed "oh yeah, they are here." I traveled all the way back to Brooklyn eager to be refunded for the cost of those copies. The inconvenience and incompetency was staggering. I was offered 10 percent off my next print job. Extremely disappointed with my experience and the sloppiness of the service. read more

Always served well here. Tonight the supervisor was particularly helpful, even though I came in 5 minutes before closing. Consistently plenty of help finding things, getting questions answered, etc. Pretty standard, well-stocked Staples, but that supervisor sets it apart! Worst staples I been to, I need to make colored copies of 10 different pictures. I usually send the pictures to their staples email and they print it out for me. This staples said they don't offer that service and told me to use their color machine and send to their print me machine. The print me machine only copies 1 picture at a time. I don't have time to click on every photo and print selected pictures one at a time. Worse customer service too at the printing area. read more

Sigh. You know that friend you have that has moderately (OK, for the sake of this analogy, VERY moderate) good intentions but is generally inept most of the time? This Staples is that friend. So in my latest foray to The Place Where Copy Dreams Go To Die, I go to the copy center desk and tell the woman (verbatim is important here), "Hi, I'm here to pick up two bound-book projects I created online." She goes away for a bit, comes back with a (stapled shut) package, and goes to ring me up. I ask if I can look at the project first, open it, and I see that only one of my projects is there. I tell her that. She looks puzzled. "Two jobs," I say. "I have the emails Staples sent me indicating both are ready," I say, queing up my Blackberry. Her: "You have two of those emails? We printed both projects?" Me: "Yes." She recruits a male employee to help her look. "You created both online?" he asks. "Yep," I say. "I have the order numbers if that helps." He says they alphabetize them by name. I spell my name again (nicely). Ten minutes go by. I browse the strangely extensive gift card selection (Bloomingdales at Staples? Huh.) and overhear a woman who had also created a job online complain to an employee that the colors are printed entirely wrong for a graphic design project she created. The employee does not seem to grasp that purple is not, in fact, blue. (I say a silent prayer of thanks that my project is almost entirely text.) I hear the man finally exclaim "here it is!" and hand me my package. I thank him and we go to the register, where he attempts to ring up the package, which is also stapled shut. "May I have a look at that first?" I ask for the second time during The Best Visit Ever. He obliges, and I see that it's just a bunch of pages in a bag. Not bound. But hey, I think, I created the project in a semi-rush, I may have skipped denoting that step online. I check the order sheet. Nope, right there. I show the man. "This indicates bound, right?" (In Staples' world, who the hell knows.) He tells me that yes, it should have been bound. I'm nearly late for another appointment, and am about to give up, so I tell him I'm happy to come back in a couple hours. To his credit, he insists on binding it immediately. He seemed like the only person with a brain in the facility, so I don't blame him for the rest of the idiots he seemed to be surrounded by. However: I think I would've strangled somebody if I'd walked out of there without checking my orders (twice, mind you), and seeing how fucked up they were, so the moral of the story is CHECK AND RE-CHECK YOUR COPY CENTER ORDERS. Do not even THINK about paying before you make sure it's perfect. Two stars only because I don't know of anywhere else in the immediate Park Slope area you can create a semi-complicated job online and pick it up within a fairly short time frame. If you have a place, though, for the love of all that's holy, I demand that you let me know. I have officially used way too many words to talk about this effin' Staples. read more

Why does the USB reader only work on one printer?! I had to wait 30 minutes to print 2 pages, while this guy in front of me printed manuals, ugh! But they didn't mind that I brought the pup in, so extra stars all around. read more

The worst customer service I've ever encountered. They don't even deserve any star!!! One of the employees in the printing department was very rude not only to me but to other customers as well. I was asking for a type of paper available for printing as I need to know and feel the material. She just slammed the folder in front of me with an attitude. I was so shocked!!! Have to admit that a lot of these office supply stores really suck. But I really don't like ordering stuff on line. So after searching numerous stores for my Dell printer. I hit pay dirt. Been in this store numerous times, customer service and check out were pretty quick. Especially like the fact that the ink section has a cash register, so it makes things move. I had a print job to pick up that I did online. Very easy job: print a 300-page pdf on white paper double-sided (no cover, no binding, no nothing). When I picked it up, it was not double-sided. The associate checked the order and it was indeed supposed to be double-sided. I know it is not a big deal, but it doesn't seem like a complex thing to double check the order before processing it. The worst thing was actually the associate's attitude: no apologies, no "do you want us to reprint", just "$14 debit or credit?" Rude, apathetic employees .... read more

To make sure that they have in-stock a low priced laptop that was advertised online, but only available in-store, I called before I went to the to the store, and I was told by the easy tech guy that it is available, and he agreed to hold one for me. He said "just come up to the easy-tech department, and I'll have it ready for you". I wanted to pay, but he said we can't do that; but will hold it for you. When I got to the store, after an half hour driving in traffic, I headed straight to the easy-tech department to get my laptop, and lo and behold the guy at the easy-tech desk acted as if I just arrived from Mars, and said that they do not have it in stock for a while, and that no one called to inquire about it. He then just tried selling me some another more expensive laptop, which I guess is the reason why he wanted me to come down. will never again trust this store. Just be aware not to trust what they tell you over the phone. read more

This particular Staples seems to be run by con artists, and I only go here if I really have to, but am always ready for them, I'll explain. The con at this Staples is that when something is on sale (I receive their email flyers), it NEVER rings up at the same price. At least not for anything I ever buy here. In the past year, I've bought I think five sale items, and they all rang up at the non-sale price. Then the routine begins. The cashier will tell you the sale price is for a "different item" of some similar sorts, and they hope you buy that lie. What you have to do, is make them go on their computer to look at the email flyer. Then they give some line about how you were right, and sorry. Unbelievably, it happened yet again yesterday. I go in to buy a Staples 16g flash drive for 5.99, and it rings up 12.99. Same old routine - they tell me the sale price is for a similar but different item (how many Staples-brand 16g flash drives do they sell?). However, I am quite used to the routine, and tell them to look at the online flyer, which they do, and then "oh yes, you were right, sorry." My advice is if you are going in here to buy a sale item, just be prepared to tell them to check the price because otherwise, you aren't getting it. Staples has been becoming less and less attractive a place to shop at for various reasons the past number of years anyway, and as I said, I only go here if I really have to for some reason. Worst. Dismal, rude customer service. Sale items (and regular items) rarely ring up at the correct price, and then they argue with you about it! Copy and mail center is a joke. If your able to get someone's attention, they appear shocked/annoyed when you say that you have to mail something. Imagine mailing something, at a mail center! The other day I had the pleasure of witnessing a customer explain to a dead-eyed employee what "media mail" rate was. From now on, I'm going to mail my packages at ...wait for it....the post office. Given that the post office is roughly equivalent to the seventh circle of hell, that's really saying something. read more

He really knows his stuff about printing, and goes out of his way to make sure the customers get the highest quality end product. I will continue to come here for ALL of my business printing needs. This is the worst Staples I have ever been to. The staff hates their job and you can tell. The rep erased some important information off of my brochure then gave me a half assed apology. They seem very great!! I made a mistake and thought that if I bought 3 or more of an item, the items will cost less, but in reality it was every additional item after 3 would be discounted. The cashier who served me did not seem to know at first but she's only human - I don't expect every single person to know every detail about the vast selection they have over there. The worst customer service!!! I've visited there two in the past three days only to be met with lies and bad attitudes. I went there Sunday for 3 poster sized copies to be made a laminated. The first 10 minutes was a guy with a bad attitude. Eventually he did his part while I guided him through printing out two copies. He was to bothered to try and convert a PDF to jpg. He asked me to fill out a comment online and did since he was having a crappy day. Next, the cashier wouldn't look me in the face or smile just hurry me through a transaction even though no one else was in line. The next day, I went and was told to come back and maybe someone would help me. I asked for a job to be completed then and then come back later. The pregnant lady took my jpg and filled out and order then said she would notify me when it was done. I never heard from her again. This place is full of people that hate their job. read more

Initially hesitate about placing an order at this center after reading all the nightmare reviews, I must say I had the most amazing experience with Ms. Stephanie, one of the staff at the Print & Marketing Center. Anxious about printing a 36x44" poster the day before a medical conference (which apparently is nearly impossible to print without outsourcing to a third-party within a 24-hr range), Ms. Stephanie was extremely patient, professional, understanding, and supportive. Not only was I able to print my poster in time, but also it looked fantastic! One month after attending the conference in late April, I'm back just to leave a fair and honest review. I can not give a more laudatory review to express my gratitude. read more

The staff is friendly and helpful, but items are out of stock, higher priced and sometimes only available online. This review is specifically for the copy center. I gave them 3 chances and all three times they screwed up. When you get to the counter no one even looks at you to help. You say excuse me they look at you and STILL don't help. FINALLY when they did my order was not ready even though I selected the 4 hour turn around. Time does stand still at Stapes. Matter does not exist at Staples. Glaciers melt faster than getting customer service at Staples. Watching paint dry can actually be more enjoyable, than waiting In line for a rep to notice you are actually standing there. Actually, if I blended into the wall and had to be scraped off with a spatula I would be more noticeable than standing at the service counter at Staples. I recall hell freezing over before someone actually came over and noticed I was waiting at the counter for a half hour. Eventually, you will be taken care of. If you are blessed with the only human being there that actually has a pulse and a partial brain. Either way, may heaven help you at the copy department. The journey and experience will be long and arduous. If you want to double down on an experience in purgatory, try to call the store first. This will be comparable to Dante's journey to purgatory. Very mixed experience at the Staples on 4th Avenue. Some staff people desperately need customer service training. I came in on Friday with a small-to-medium sized job (160 copies of six pages to be copied two sided and stapled). The clerk asked if I could come back for them on Sunday and I said I could. I came back Sunday afternoon (yesterday) with my child in the car. There was a staff member standing in front of the store yelling and cursing loudly, arguing on a personal call on her cell phone. I went in and there was another person behind the counter just sitting on a stool not making copies or anything. I asked about my order and she was very cranky. She asked if I had gotten a call and I said I had not, but I left the job on Friday so I assumed it would be done by Sunday afternoon and even thought I had said I could come back Sunday afternoon. She asked if I had given it to a man or a woman and I did not immediately recall, and she acted exasperated. She looked for the completed job and then looked as the pending jobs and could not find it. She asked me impatiently if I had the file electronically and said she could do it if I had it electronically but I didn't--as if it was my oversight. (I brought the original there and had seen a sample and would not have wanted to start over with a PDF and risk a different quality level.) She said she had to call her supervisor and it turned out to be the same person who had been yelling in front of the store, who also turned out to be the person who had taken my job on Friday. She walked in to the store still on her phone and still in the middle of her argument. She then hung up to help me and proceeded to scold me that she had not called me and that she intended to run it before she left that day--like I should know what hours she works. She found the original paper copy right away, I don't know why the other woman could not find it. I told her that I did not remember her telling me to wait for a call. She said it would take an hour to do the job and I said it could not wait and started to leave, and she called me back to the counter to insist that she did tell me that I was supposed to wait for a call and that she never promised it would be done by noon. She certainly did not gain any customer service points by continuing to insist she was right. On the other hand, the next day (today) when I went back to get the job the person who helped me, a guy whose name tag said he was the manager for the print and copy section or something like that, was extremely professional and nice and helpful and also cheerfully rang up other purchases for my son and me at that register. If I had not had that experience today I certainly would never have returned. I hope someone reads this and provides some basic customer service training for the staff. read more

If your idea of customer service is to have an employee grunt at you (and not look you in the eye) when you politely interrupt her with a quick question while she's busy talking to a fellow employee, and if your idea of a solid response to your question is an eye roll and a barely audible "I dunno," then this is your kind of place. Does no one bother training these young men and women on how to deal with the public? Of course, there do appear to be a few people here who know what they're doing. But they're thin on the ground, and they seem to be doing the bulk of the work while the rest of the employees wander trying to avoid customers and their pesky questions. There is zero reason to shop here, unless you know exactly what you want, you know exactly where it is located in the store, and you know for a fact they they actually have it in stock. Otherwise, forget it. read more

Great place for supplies, its never crowded, good customer service

Clint was excellent with his customer service. He was walking by while he was going to his break, but took the time to stop and help me. I felt badly interrupting his break, but he insisted he was happy to help. Clint is an asset to Staples and I hope they give him positive reinforcement for having such a friendly personality. The Staples copy center failed on a very easy task and they announced their failure to me with complete indifference. They most distressing thing was that they had at least 4 employees working in a copy center with no jobs being printed....nothing except for 2 large stacks of jobs in process. Never again. Nothing for sale in stock. Very frustrating. I went with their sales circular in hand to buy a laptop computer. I asked about three different ones. Salesperson has to go back into storage room. Comes out 10 minutes later. "Sorry...we don't have any in stock. But we can order one for you." I said, "If I wanted to order something I'd buy it from Amazon. I want to pick up one now. And these are items that you specifically are advertising in a print ad." He rolled his eyes and said, "Yes. This happens all the time." No wonder all these companies are going out of business.
