Went here today for TSA Precheck through Clear+. Had an appointment for 12:30. They did not honor it, and put me behind a walk-in, wasting my time. Then, they charged me for Precheck (meant to be included with the Clear+ bundle), making me have to call Clear to get it resolved (and wasting more of my time). Don´t believe anything this store tells you. I called to see if they recycled TV´s and they told me yes, to bring it on it. It was not a small feat to put it in the car - I´m elderly- and take it out there. Once inside the Assistant Manager said he could not accept it- he did not have room for that size TV. I told him what I had been told and that he should stand behind what his employees say. This Store is the absolute worse. The customer service is horrible. They don't greet you. Leave you standing there feeling/looking stupid. No acknowledgement or anything. I hate this store. I hate that Amazon chose to even contract with them for returns. Even the customer service desk when purchasing my printer from their store was the same way. I won't be retuning. Today I had a terrible experience at the TSA Application and Renewal Counter inside the Staples on Merrimon Ave. Jennifer, who informed me that she is the only government employee on site, was quite passive aggressive and unprofessional. Although, she told me that she was a great employee and proud of her work. Yikes. She took customers who showed up after me ahead of me. Additionally, she sneered when I asked to speak to someone in charge after I waited for 30 minutes past the time of my scheduled appointment. The young male Jennifer referred me to for my compliant also lacked professional customer service skills. He didn't seem to care that many people had long wait times past the time of their scheduled appointments. The TSA application and renewal service counter appears to desparately need more than one agent on staff. Also, agents who are not jerks and delusion about their skill sets. Other people waiting indicated that the line had been backed up all morning. Jennifer said that this was typical as several individuals are able to sign up for the same time frame, which frequently creates ongoing waits for service. I filed a formal complaint with TSA. read more

It should be noted that during the summer TSA is busier than other times in the year. One agent can only serve one customer at a time. With that being said if there are 8 customers all scheduled for the same time slot or a time slot even 10 minutes apart, there will be a wait. This doesn't mean the said agent is not working as quickly as possible to get all customers taken care of. With one device and one agent, there is no way to speed up the process. Agents cannot turn customers away and must take walk ins on top of regularly scheduled appointments. If you go to an appointment to see a doctor, even if your appointment is scheduled at a certain time, you still end up waiting past your appointment time. If anything, it is a benefit to go to Staples for TSA versus going to the airport! More people are traveling now so wait times are increased in the summer months! read more

These bad reviews don't match my experience at all. Matthew was my cashier and he was so kind and efficient. I identified myself as a teacher and he even took extra care because of his connections to teachers. He even thanked me for my work. Always takes a while to ship anything. The staff are usually friendly but there are not enough of them to take care of the ups desk. Except the one that seemed really irritated that I wanted to hear the pricing differences for various shipping speeds. I've been in there three times where the staff did not know the password to the shipping computer and took at least five minutes to figure it out. Today it took me 20 minutes to ship a tiny envelope that fit in the palm of my hand. Not a quick errand. read more

Awful service....PLAIN AWFUL. I came to have a picture printed from my phone. it was sunday afternoon and the place was almost empty. The two people in the printing area were both looking very unavailable. I asked this woman when she could come help me. She was disinterested as she barely even made eye contact with me. Told me to send my email to their address and then she'd be able to show me how to bring it. This took quite some time, (as their internet service is also AWFUL....and, after several times asking her how much longer I'd have to wait...(and several answers back from her that that was all that could be done)... I finally asked her her name, just so she'd know that a review was brewing. She (Sherry), seemed to get my drift that I would write this one up, and all of the sudden had another email address for me to send it to.. But that didn't work, and she looked at me dumbfounded....saying,"it can't be done". Hey! this is Staples ....it's a print center. Are you kidding me? I left, and remembered that there was a Fedex close by to my home. I went there, and in 5 minutes, I had the copies I asked for, all done with a SMILE. I don't understand how a store like that can stay in business....because after all, customer service is what it's all about .. Go to FEDEX. read more

Literally the worst experience. Walked in and was completely ignored by a worker until a nice woman who noticed what had occurred told the man that I had a question, I then asked him and he was rude and directed me to the copy and print station which made no sense to me, because all I needed was 11x17 paper. The woman there said that it made no sense for me to be directed to the copy and print station, and I explained to her that I was directed there. She then proceeded to get me assistance in which I waited 10 mins and then she finally came back to me and said I would have to wait longer. It was all completely disorganized and the workers there were rude and seemed stressed when the store was empty. I ended up walking out of staples and drove an extra 15 mins to Office Depot where they assisted me immediately and I was in and out there in under 10 mins. read more

This is my go to destination for office supplies and print services. Over the weekend I placed an order to be printed and picked up the next day. I used their online portal and was able to easily place the order and pay for it. I was out of town and hoping to swing by before they closed the following evening but as the day progressed it became quite clear that I would not be able to make it back into town before this Staples closed. I called to find out if it would be possible for me to send someone in my place to pick up the order. The gentleman that answered the phone sounded confused from the get-go. I explained my situation and he put me on hold which is understandable. However, I was surprised by just how long I was on hold. After the fourth minute I decided that perhaps I'd been forgotten about. I hung up and called the Staples once again. The same gentleman answered the phone as though we were continuing the conversation. I was impressed! He told me that there would be no possibility of having someone come to pick up my order. He explained that someone would have to show up with the original card and identification to prove that they were the person that had placed the original order. I asked if I could provide email proof by taking a photo of my ID and my credit card and giving the full name of the person who would pick up my order. He sounded confused once again and told me that I could speak to a manager if I wished. I spoke to the manager and explained my situation. She sounded surprised. After listening to everything I had to say, she explained to me that it was completely acceptable for someone else to pick up my order on my behalf. All they would need was the name of the person that was picking up my order. No ID's, no credit card. She continued to say that this is exactly what she had told the employee who I had originally spoken with. What? I was, unsurprisingly, a bit taken aback. This gentleman had just told me the complete opposite. I gave the name of the person I was sending on my behalf and they picked up the order that evening with no problems. For a nationwide chain I would expect a little bit more professionalism from the staff. I don't really have a choice of whether or not to patronize this establishment, it's one of the only places in town that I can acquire office supplies or print jobs out within a 24 hour period. Until another option presents itself I will continue to be a regular customer of the store. I will be a bit wary when dealing with the staff though. read more

The cashiers are the nicest people in Staples. Everyone else, including the manager, is rude, unhelpful, and condescending. Especially, the people who work in the print section. They act like they don't want to help anyone who needs something actually printed; whether it be from a phone or at the copier. I have read other reviews, and it seems like I'm not the only one, across the country, who has had nightmare experiences at their local Staples. My local Staples is on Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC; and, it needs some major improvement with staff in the Print Department. In the 10 years I've been living here, I've had one good experience at Staples. That one good experience was with a young man in the printing department who actually knew what he was doing and how to help the customer. He was polite, respectful, and efficient. Absolute WORST experience ever. Deserves less than one star. Store was run down... we waited for almost 10 minutes for someone to help us with a laptop special that we had found on Slick Deals. The computer 'guru' Garrett was already complaining about his 'job' when we walked in... He finally walked over to me and asked how he could help. After I told him what we were looking to purchase - he tried to 'up sell' a couple of features. I explained him 'no thank you' and in his third attempt I told him that my husband was an IT specialist and that we did not need the anti-virus software 'additional guarantee' and he looks at me and said - 'then why are you buying a laptop at Staples'. He was so condescending and I looked him in the eye and congratulated him on losing our business. What a jerk. I actually also tried to speak with a manager and he tried to intercept the meeting by meeting me by the door. That did not go so well for him. read more

Absolutely no customer service. I told the people working at the print and copy station that I'm not good with tech equipment and their response was "aw I doubt that". They pointed me to the machine. I was at the copier for almost an hour trying to figure it out. I was vocalizing that I was getting upset as I couldn't figure out how to use it and not a single person offered to help me. read more

Of all the retail establishments in Asheville, this is without a doubt the dirtiest. The floors are completely unswept. Gross.

I purchased an office chair from Staples that had an in store displayed price of $199.99. I paid via credit card and when I got out to the car and reviewed the receipt, found out that they charged me $229.99. I went back inside immediately and told the store. They made a phone call and supposedly credited the $30 back to the card. I received an original email saying that I had paid a total of $246.09 and after the store's phone call received another email from Staples saying they would give me the $30 credit. I thought everything was fine until I got my credit card statement. My card statement had the original $246.09 charge and not the $30 credit even though it all happened in the same billing cycle. I chatted with Staples support 3 different times and finally was told to call another department. (They couldn't transfer) The person on the phone said they only charged me $216.09 originally. I said that my credit card statement says otherwise and that I had an original invoice and email to go along with the credit card statement to prove it. They said that they don't have a way to look up actual charges and that I would have to dispute the entire charge through my credit card company. I asked if this was the order charges/credits department and they confirmed they were part of that department. That department can evidently only confirm invoices and has no audit trail capabilities. Overall, absolutely terrible customer service. I would only go back if they are the only place that has what I am looking for and they have that item in the physical store. I'd make sure to double check their bait and switch pricing tactics if I ever have to go back. I will definitely give Office Depot the first chance at my business in the future. read more

This is my go-to print shop for my business and they are TERRIBLE. They have never failed to mess up my order. Seriously - that's over 20 orders this year, and all of them were wrong when I picked them up. They are unprofessional, unorganized and seem generally incompetent. The only reason I continue to print here is that they are one block away, and when they mess up my order I keep both the corrected prints and the wrong ones (which can often still be used) and only get charged once. Generally they print the wrong file or print the right file on the wrong paper, so I get the prints I need, and an equal number of usable "drafts" included in my order. Overall though this is not the ideal way to do business, and if any print shop opened up nearby I would never go to Staples again. As for the store aspect, they seem to have a good selection of supplies that is well-organized. I just can't forgive the copy/print center. Horrible. read more

Staples on Merriman is by far anything other than customer service driven business. Go in for an order that was to be done by 8:30 PM on Saturday, 14 December, get there at 10 AM on 15 December and I am told they never done it even after coming on the 14th they said that they would have it done by 8:30 Will ask for a discount the lady behind the counter stated that's not something I can do you would have to talk to my manager, the manager then walks up. The manager then ensues to tell me that he can give me a $15 coupon I state that I would like to have it off my order. In which he tells me he doesn't have the ability to give a discount on an online order so he calls the corporate one while texting on his phone. After the money is returned I asked the manager how can this happen when the order was right there, he states very plainly and very uncaring sometimes things just happen. In a world where you can order things online through Etsy or other prints enabled websites please use those facets instead of this store read more

Zero star if it was possible. Went in this morning on my way to an interview to get five (5) copies of my resume printed. Waited for the employee to get off the phone with another customer. She asked how she could help and I said I needed to print five copies of my resume quickly - that I was running late for an interview and admitted I didn't plan well - chuckle/embarrassment, etc. She proceeded to ask the person behind me how she could help them then looked at me and said it will be a few minutes. WHAT?!!!! I was first in line. I explained my issue and threw myself at her mercy and she stomped all over me. Needless to say - I walked out. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS PLACE AND EXPECT CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

The print center is pretty hit or miss. Some days they can do what you ask no problem, other days that technology never existed there. After so many pleasant and failed times, I'd rather find a reliable place that could use my money then spend another 15 minutes to be told they can't print something on paper today. read more

This store has been nothing short of exasperating. My wife and I fell for Staples' iPhone battery replacement scam. Don't you fall for it! My wife's iPhone was so badly damaged by an inferior battery that it swelled to such a degree that the phone was damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced. Guess what? Staples put the same type of battery in the phone and the battery swelled again. Each time it went in for repair it had to be shipped to California and was gone for 12 and 13 days respectively. She had to go almost a full month without the phone she uses for work. My iPhone took awhile longer to have its problems. When I brought my phone in the store manager had the audacity to say problems with their batteries are 'extremely' rare not knowing my wife's phone had twice been sent in for a repair because of their inferior batteries. My iPhone battery swelled to the point of cracking the screen and I went through the same fiascos my wife did. I was without my phone for 12 days. Several months later this replacement battery swelled again and I was another 12 days without my phone. I don't know about you but my wife and I rely on our iPhones for calendar, GPS, internet searches, staying in contact with work, family, and friends, and so much more. For us to be without the use of our phones for a combined total of 49 days was inconvenient, aggravating, and unacceptable. Staples can claim their batteries are comparable to iPhone batteries from now to eternity but they will be trying to pull the wool over your eyes. On top of it all, their store is difficult to get in and out of and it's dirty and grungy. I will not go back, ever. I will go anywhere else other than Staples. read more

This has been my go-to place to print for my business, for the most part because it is geographically closer than other print shops, so it "saves me time." However, I am now considering the fact that driving somewhere more efficient with modern technology may actually save me time. I have attempted to use their printers through their "print me" email function and through a USB, and neither of these methods worked because Staples doesn't have an updated version of Microsoft Word (??!!) The straw that broke the camels back: Thinking it would save me time, I ordered and paid for a "print job" on their website. I paid for 15 black and white copies of a simple PDF file. I appeared at the store 3 hours later, and was told to come back in 4 HOURS to pick up this print job. 7 HOURS to print my PDF. The person "helping" me (I believe she was the manager on shift) was also extremely rude to me, as if my asking about the print job really inconvenienced her. I offered to wait 40 minutes in store since I didn't want to make another trip, and she was like "I don't know what to tell you. It won't be done for 4 hours." Another employee saw me sitting in the print job waiting and asked the manager about me, and the manager whispered something to her and laughed. The customer service is just really awful here. I have never spent less than 15 minutes in this store, even if I am just picking up something simple, like a pack of paper. In fact, even if I'm the only person in the checkout line, it invariably takes forever for the person to ring me up. I don't know what's wrong with the training, hiring, or management at this location, but it's really been a terrible experience for me. I encourage folks to find another print center, as I will be doing so. read more
