I went here last weekend and was so kindly greeted. The manager was peppy and welcoming. They got me in the back and tested my eyes quickly. The technician who did the test wasn't very talkative and didn't really explain much. When the virtual optometrist appeared, the screen froze and we had to start all over, but they fixed it pretty quickly. The manager helped me with the frames and was super great! She was cheerful, explained everything well, answered all my questions, and also helped me decide on a pair! She deserves an award! read more

I live right around the corner, so I thought I'd give this place a shot for a contact lens exam. FYI: if you like nice glasses, and/or have any sense of self-respect or sense of style: stay far away from this place. The glasses are cheaply made and mostly hideous, which is why they cost next to nothing. They are functional, not fashionable, which I do know that's all some people are looking for -- but it could easily be argued that their cheap mess of a frame selection is neither. When I arrived for my contact lens appointment, the two "customer service" people who were sitting behind the desk were both deeply engaged with texting and staring into the abyss of their cell phones -- and not the least bit interested in why I was there. Suffice to say, strike one. The exam itself lasted all of 5 minutes -- the shortest eye exam I have ever received. Granted, I think the prescription I got was OK -- it was the same as the one I arrived with -- but it certainly didn't feel thorough. Note to self: I wonder why it was DRAMATICALLY cheaper than any other place in town? [Strike two]. They only carry crappy (read: CHEAP, the running theme) brands of contact lenses, which I didn't know when I scheduled this exam (and would have deterred me from doing so), which was disappointing. They could not order or write a prescription for my preferred brand of contacts. (My fault for not researching more carefully). What REALLY downgraded this experience even more is the fact that they did not follow up with trial contacts they were supposed to order...and told me they call once they arrived. [Strike three, as if I needed to mention it]. I never heard from them again. Likewise, they'll never hear from me again, either. read more

I made an appointment for an eye exam in Santa Fe, NM location yesterday, and I called them and made sure they accept my insurance before my visit. However, I was charged full price because I didn't buy a pair of glasses there. I have VSP insurance (eye exam co-pay: $4), but I end up paying $ 48.80 for my eye exam. Classic Bait and Switch! My experience was so bad that it doesn't even bother me that I paid an exam and prescription and didn't use it! When I went in (now a couple months ago, check that, a year ago!) my exam was VERY brief, but if that was the worst of it, I wouldn't even mention it. After the exam I was given 2 different pairs of contacts to evaluate and decided to wait to pick out my glasses. When I went back to choose frames and lenses, I knew from experience that it would be much more than the "$59 for 2-pairs!" as advertised, but not THAT much more! The unhelpful and snarky woman drew out different options, option 1 was close to $800!!! Option 2 was $650 and be bare basics #3 was still North of $500!!! I'm a realist! I was prepared to pay several times the advertised price. But this wasn't even close... not in the ballpark, town, city and maybe even state! I left because I wanted to think about it, before I spent $500-600 AT A chain cheapy eyecare clinic and to decide if I want to go with contacts. A couple of days past, I tried the second pair of contacts and accidentally ripped one on my way to work. I stopped in and asked if I could possibly have 1 replacement lens to continue to evaluate them. The aforementioned snarky woman said "No I'm afraid we have given you as many samples as we can." If that is company policy... So be it. But I sincerely doubt it. Customer service skills were sorely lacking! I cannot think of another occasion that I have thought about how horrible someone's customer service skills were for so long. I paid for the exam and the extra contact lens exam. I have not stepped foot back in that establishment since even though I visit the Starbucks nextdoor nearly every day. One of the worst experiences as a customer I have ever had. read more

Stanton Optical I will never go there again. I usually go to America Best. (much better). I didn't want to make an extra trip so I went to Stantons. 59 for two pair of glasses was false. It cost me almost 494.00. And no I didn't go fancy. They were suppose to mail them to me because I live almost 100 miles away. The lady that helped me wrote it on the order. Well 3 weeks later I tried to call and couldn't get a live person. Called at least 6 times. Checked on line at least that many times. Said I didn't have an order. Finally online said I did. I went to Stanton Optical because I needed a fast solution to my vision issues so I could see to work. First they told me they could provide same day glasses. Then it was seven to ten days. Now it has been over two weeks and I had to call six times just to get through to customer service to check the status. And now they tell me that they meant business days not just days. However they are open on Saturday and Sunday so I guess they don't understand the meaning of business days or what their actual business hours are. Everytime I called and was transferred to the front desk I was hung up on. I will never go back again nor ever recommend this place to anyone. They do not do what they say. Had they told me it was going to take longer than a week for my glasses then I might have been ok but I asked and was told seven to ten days. Now I get excuses. read more

I give two star because i was able to walk in and get an immediate eye exam after my glasses broke. I was helped to find a nice pair of frames. I showed them my glasses and asked to replicate what I had including transition lenses, thin lenses, bifocals etc. The first pair came and was incorrect as the lenses were not the same as my current lenses. (Not the ultra thin that I need). They reordered and ate the cost of the incorrect lenses. A week later, they came in with the correct ultra thin, but then they left out the transition in the lenses!! Ugh! Do not bother! Made appt on line showed up on the day of appt with time to spare go to eye exam section no appt they said but they would try to fit me in. Showed them I did have an appt on my phone they said sorry website issues. Dr. I saw was great wish I had went to his office rather than to Stanton. Bought glasses paid for them promised in 5 to 7 work days. Called a week later and told by electronic system there was no order associated with my phone number. Called the direct number on web site next and was told order would be 4 to 6 working days...so I asked her why was I told 5 to 7 and given a promise date if I was now looking at 9 to 13 days and told she did not know was not up to Stanton when delivered up to lab making glasses. They made a goofy mistake. We drop the glasses for repair and somehow they fixed the one pair and made another set of lenses. (Mistake wAs the order was for two pairs with progressive lenses but made one bi-focal with the line) granted i had purchased the insurance, they also called when they were ready. read more

I paid to have the 2-year warranty on the lenses. Get this: Your lenses get messed up with scratches, you've got to go to the store and turn in your scratched lenses before they order a new set for you; then you wait 14 BUSINESS days (3-WEEKS) for the replacement lenses to arrive. 3 WEEKS with no glasses!!! THERE IS NO REASON WHY THEY SHOULDN'T ALLOW YOU TO ORDER AND PAY FOR THEM IN ADVANCE, THEN WHEN THEY ARRIVE, GO AND SWAP THEM, so you could have the scratched lenses until the new ones arrive. NOTE: FOR SOME REASON MY NAME HAS A DIFFERENT LOCATION LISTED UNDER IT AS CALIFORNIA. I DO NOT LIVE IN CALIFORNIA BUT I LIVE IN HORSE SHOE, NC 30 MINUTES SOUTH OF ASHEVILLE, NC. I was going to pick up my nephew at the airport in Charlotte and had to have contact as I had run out. Hadn't had an eye exam in over a year so I though I would go to Stanton Optical. Never Again! When I walked in the "Coordinator" at the desk in the back told me to fill out information on the ipad. Once I had that filled out she then had me fill out another form on a clipboard. Once I was done with that and I handed it to her, she threw in the chair next to her and told me to have a seat that she would be with me in a few. She called me in the back and usually they will tell you what steps are going to happen next and what each machine does as you sit in front of it. Not here, and it only gets worse. As I sat in front of the first machine she told me to look in to the center. There was then a puff of air that was shot in to my eye. I had no clue this was going to happen and it was not explained to me what the machine was doing or why, The next machine that I sat in front of, she told me to look at the hot air balloon. I wasn't told why or the reason for doing this. After we were done at this machine I asked her if I should take my contacts out. She then cursed and said, "When I ask people if they have contacts in they say no, and then the first person I don't ask has contacts in." She then tells me that we need to go to the next room, remove my contacts and start over. When we get back to where the machines are at, she tells me that there is no need to do the eye puff test again as it was already done. That doesn't make sense because the eye puff test was done with contacts in and can't be accurate at that point. She tells me to start with the machine that has the hot air balloon and look at it. Once we are done with that one, she then tells me to move over to another machine that will take pictures of my eye. As this machine is operating she pulls out her phone and starts texting on her phone until this machine is done. Once this machine finishes she tells me to wait in the hall way with all of the chairs and the doctor will be right with me. Once I go in to the exam room where they move the lenses in front of your eyes and you read the letters on the wall, there is a monitor in the upper right hand of the room that has a small camera on top of it that would be used for a home computer. The "coordinator" tells me to sit in the chair, moves the lenses in front of my face and then tells me the doctor will take over. This was a joke. I am now sitting in the chair and the female doctor has a very heavy Indian accent. She is telling me to read the letters on the wall and is controlling the change of lenses remotely and at times she can't hear me. Once the exam is over she then tells me my "coordinator" will be right back in and then just shuts down the video call with any type of conversation at the end. almost as if the phone is being hung up on you. The "coordinator" then comes in to the room with this 6'4" dude and she tells me the following, "I want to show him how to work this thing." I said , uh ok. She then proceeds to instruct this person on how to remove the lenses from in front of my face and then once she does that stands there for 30 seconds looking at him and says, "it's that easy". He then looks at her knowing it is unprofessional and says, "is he finished?" She says, "oh yes he is done." I then see this guy 10 minutes later mopping the bathroom. Is he a janitor? Is he a "coordinator"? Now comes the straw that breaks the camels back. As I am finished I am told that wait in the lobby, pick out a pair of frames while the doctor finishes the prescription. It takes 20 minutes for this indian doctor to write this prescription, WITH NOBODY ELSE IN THE PLACE! Not only that, two people come in the door with complaints that their glasses were made wrong or they have wrong frames. I was given a trial pair of contacts and an exam for $89.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HECK!!!! AND WITH THAT TYPE OF SERVICE! I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AND I WANT MY MONEY REFUNDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY RIGHT CONTACT AS I CAN'T WEAR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to go to America's best to get the best deal, but since Stanton has moved to Asheville I'll never go back to America's best (which after my last visit I'd consider them the worst). Stanton offered me a same day visit (about an 1 after the time that I called) and when I got there they called my insurance company that they didn't accept and MATCHED my benefits! How awesome is that!? This is a very organized business and the employees are very helpful! Everyone who knows anything about glasses shopping can feel my pain when I say choosing frames is the worst, but the woman who I worked with was very patient with me and even gave a great honest opinion about the ones I tried on. She never once tried to sell me a pair that even she didn't like, she would honestly say, "maybe not those or lets try these instead"! I can't stand trying to pick glasses and everyone I try on the employee half heartedly replied oh yeah those are nice. Ugh! Anyhow, after choosing my frames and getting the lowest price possible With my insurance (80 for the entire visit), the woman told me my 2 frames and 2 new sets of lenses would take 1 hour to finish!!!! All right folks those of you that are like me have had nightmares trying to get your eyeglasses correct I'm here to tell you Stanton Optical on Patton avenue has a technician Michael Metcalf that will absolutely do you write in all my years of wearing glasses I have had the hardest time finding someone just how to correct my eyewear this gentleman is a miracle worker realize my optics in my lenses prevent me either to see too far or to close to me which created my eyeglasses to go farther down on my nose so I can see correctly he adjusted my glasses and I can actually say I see one thousand times better with my new glasses explain to me I would see better with my sunglasses if I would use them first thing in the morning to let my eyes adjust to the new prescription which work great now I have two pair eyeglasses that I can truly use not just one and have to deal with it if you guys have a problem go see Mike he's got your answer this is the second year I have used Stanton Optical to get my eyeglasses I truly believe they have one of the greatest technicians around and if you happen to be in Spartanburg Stanton Optical go visit Victoria which is also another great technician that I've gotten to meet up here in Asheville but those two technicians you can't go wrong and I do not give this review lightly I am the world's biggest critic when it comes to getting the best help and Stanton Optical I finally found one in Asheville North Carolina and one in Spartanburg South Carolina read more

Never ever using them again. Automated system is the worse. Had exam on 5/9 and waited two weeks for call that glasses were in. No call received. Finally got affirmative on automated system. Had asked on5/9 why my contacts prescription was not multifocal. Never heard back until visit to pick up glasses and they had rewritten my contact script but didn't have them in stock to try. Had to special order. Estimated price $600+! For one year. 6/9 still no call that contacts are here I decided I was firebird screwing around with them and ordered contra is Discount Contacts for $228. Hope they work. Customer service here is fabulous. Super friendly and personable staff. They do walk in eye exams as they are able to and Jay even sat down with me with a calculator to help me explore all my options until we figured out the cheapest way to order everything. I only give one star because the staff here are extremely nice. I have waited 3 hours across 2 days for an exam for my son. The corporate scheduling system is ridiculous. The computer tripe schedules appointments leaving staff with zero ability to provide appropriate customer service. Staff is left completely unsupported and unable to give accurate information. Stanton corporate clearly does not consider my time as important in any way. Do not come here with the expectation that you will be seen in any kind of timely fashion. Just avoid this place. I went because it was close to my house and they took my insurance. The first time I went in for an exam, they had to scramble to let me know that the optometrist was sick and they had to cancel all of the afternoon appointments. I rescheduled. Had my eye exam, picked out glasses, went on my way. Glasses took 3 weeks to come in, conveniently just hours after I called to ask. A week later, glasses broke. I took them to get fixed, not fixable, but they let me use the warranty for $50 to get a new pair. Original frames discontinued. Picked new frames and left. 2 weeks later, got 2 calls saying my glasses were ready for pickup. Went to pick up, and was there for 20 minutes while they scrambled, rushing from room to room, lots of whispering. No glasses. They didn't know what happened. Those frames were discontinued too. Pick out THIRD SET OF FRAMES, and they threw in a free pair of prescription sunglasses to make up for the inconveniences. While they were free, the frames are beat up, and the lenses have some sort of engraving on them. I dread having to walk in there AGAIN to get the sunglasses fixed. Props to Tiffany though - she did the best she could, and was really nice. read more

Yes the local team tries: but finally two months after the initial order (not cheap!) and round and round with their automated robo-call system to nowhere finally did get a call after 5 days beyond a supposed "escalation" just to find out anything,.. they're in: well the prescription (their remote "Dr" loose term for sure) cooked up was so far off i couldn't use the glasses - so we set up a retest and once again no calls, etc regarding the fact that still a "real" in person Dr who was suppose to be in (+another week) to find out it'll be another week.... argh! this is the worse company I've ever had the unfortunate opportunity to try and work with... now to see if I can get the final refund from my pay for their incompetence... DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! I've worn eyeglasses for 10 years now, and have an exam and new glasses every year. This was the most horrible experience in all 10 years. The first pair came in with a small crack at the top. Then the second pair came in with transition lens that I did not order or want. Out of the ten years I have NEVER had a pair of glasses to get scratched. These have and I contacted them during the first year ... no response until I contacted their home office and said I was going to have to contact the BBB. Then the mgr. in Asheville lied and told them that she had tried to call me -- I did NOT have any missed calls. After I finally was able to speak to her, she assured me that she was taking care of me that it will take 7-10 days for the new lens to arrive and then she would place them in the frames and ship them to me. That was 2 months ago! Now the first year warranty has expired!!! I am going through with contacting the BBB to help other in having this horrible experience! read more

This please was so far lacking in every way. The receptionist at the back desk has the personality of a wet dishrag. She seemed bothered that I was there to check in. Lots of eye rolling and attitude when I presented my insurance card. My insurance says I get an annual eye exam for $25 and was still charged $65 for the exam. The Dr was not thorough. The entire exam took 5 minutes and he had trouble figuring out how to turn the lights on on the machine. I walked out with the same prescription that I walked with, but that's fine. The sales lady in the front could only sell me either a 6 months supply or 1 year supply of contacts at a time. That was a little ridiculous, my contacts are expensive and usually can only afford 3 months at a time. So I left without contacts. Getting Stanton to fax my prescription to another provider in town was irritating, and in the end, I ended up having to go to Stanton to pick up a paper copy of my prescription. I got an eye exam and she asked if I had vision insurance and I said I'm really not sure so I gave her my insurance card. After my exam I still had to pay $79 for my exam. When I got home I looked up my insurance benefits and I get a free eye exam each year. So I call the manager this morning and she was very defensive and said my insurance was out of network even though it's listed on their website so she was going to look into it and give me a call back, still have not heard from her.
