When I did finally seek help, attendants were available and helpful. This store is also in close proximity to other excellent store in the area, so you can shop a lot of stores at once, so you're not going out of your way just to stop at this DSW. They have a very large selection of just about every style of shoe that you want. There's a limited number of sizes of every style, so you may not find your size in the style you want. They tend to have higher quality shoes than someone like shoe carnival or pay less, but the ones they carry are marked down by maybe $30 for a $120 boot. Sometimes they are 20-40% off of that price, but again you might not find it in your size. There's extremely limited customer service so you'll have to hunt on your own unless you happen upon a really nice salesperson that's not busy restocking shoes. Staff is very helpful and friendly and the store is very clean with shoes and other offerings well displayed. DSW is my "go to" place whenever I need shoes!

I chose it due to the fact that it is close to where I work. I went there during the middle of my lunch break on a weekday and was astonished at how busy it was. this store doesn't have an area devoted to return items, so I had to stand in line with the rest of the people. I estimated that I stood in wait for around 15 minutes. Finally, when it was my turn, the cashier agent asked reasons I was returning, and I told why. She examined the shoes to ensure they hadn't been worn, scanned the bar code, and asked me to swipe the card that I paid with. The issue I didn't have a physical card with me, but because their device supports NFC, it can accept my digital credit card copy and it works perfectly. I didn't have time to tour the store because I needed to hurry back to work. I was irritated that I had to wait so long just to return one item. The only thing I can say is that the return process was made simple.

Unbelievable customer service here!!! You do need to sign in and wait your turn, but it will be well worth the wait! You can even call ahead of time to set an appointment. Irwin helped me and I have to tell you that he is wonderully patient and kind, not to mention extremely knowledgeable!!! I thought the days of having someone measure my feet were in days gone by! I have been suffering with foot pain for many years and have worn orthotics for 2 years. The pain was relieved only slightly with my orthotics and I now realize that if the shoe is not good for your specific issues, the pain will always be there. Irwin taught me that the orthotic can not make a bad shoe good!!! Irwin put me in a extra-wide super supportive shoe. He told me to go home, wear them in the house for a few days to see if they are the correct shoes for me. He was very clear that I have 10 days to bring them back if there is a problem. It turned out that the right foot was still hurting my foot, so I went back and Irwin assured me that we would find the exact right shoe for my problems.....and he did just that! Just in time for summer, I can now go for walks without pain. Not only no pain, but these shoes are ultra comfortable it feels like I'm walking on a cushion... I do admit that I went in to the store once and was treated rudely by some other man there so I left and waited for a day that Irwin would be there.....so ask for Irwin, you will not be disappointed. They really give you as much time as necessary to solve your foot problems. Bottom line: Don't give up, there is someone to help you find the perfect shoe for your feet. read more

Joe, Sales Associate, greeted me as I came into Waxberg's Walk Shoppe in Niles. He listened to my concerns related to my left foot pain that I've been experiencing for a while. He measured both feet and made recommendations as to what I need to alleviate the stress/pain on my feet. I'm very happy with the gym shoes and orthotics purchase I made. I love Waxbergs, in my opinion it's the best place to buy shoes, these people are all professionals, I see Bert all the time when I go there, he's very helpful and knows what the customer wants and needs. The moment we walked in we were greeted even though the place was super busy (it's a madhouse on weekends, apparently) and the woman came by to help us within a couple minutes. This store has been in business since 1961, passed through the family, and it's clear why they've been around so long what with their great service and merchandise. It was the first time that both our kiddos had ever had shoes. She measured them both, and explained what we should look for in shoes; the brand I bought, Stride Rite, she said is usually pretty true to size but if we went with one of their other brands they'd have to go up a bit. Both babes walked (or rather, strolled and were carried) away with a pair of shoes and we'll be back in August to re-size. They have a couple of toy stations to keep bored kids busy, which is a great touch. Since my baby is still just at the creeping stage and standing assisted, she doesn't wear shoes so that she can get used to the feel of her feet and the ground beneath them. But when we go for a walk or something they'll be good for her to have on her feet while she's being strolled. So although the shoes are not cheap by any means--I spent more on her shoes than I often spend on mine--I was ok with it since she's only going to have one or so at a time. And they're good brands, high-quality shoes, which is important for growing feet.

They have a variety of shoes brands including Stride Rites and some some other brands that are highly recommended by pediatricians. They now have loyal customers for life or at least until our kids no longer fit in kids shoes.
