I made a solo breakfast trip on a 6/8 to the Stan's Donuts & Coffee close to the hotel where we were staying near Mag Mile. It was a Monday morning. I'd seen a number of these shops around the city, and wanted to check it out. This Stan's in River East is in an office building. You can enter from either a revolving door entrance off the street or from within the office building. When I entered, I saw and immediately headed to the ordering kiosks. I ordered the OG Sandwich and Hashbrown Combo with an Iced Coffee. Their breakfasts are made with cage-free eggs. I liked the breakfast sandwich. The hashbrown has a nice seasoning on it. The iced coffee is refreshing on a summer morning, but it's not strong coffee. I would come back again. I'm hoping to try out Stan's Donuts next time I visit Chicago. read more

Worst donut shop ever. Customer service was beyond rude. If you order something and then give you something else, they tell you that it's your fault not my fault from the from their point of view. If there's like more than one item they staff should be asking the question not you being very specific because how do you supposed to know there's other items in there? Would highly recommend not to come here at all even if you're gluten-free being all that they don't give a care. Came here on a Sunday and it was so nice. It's attached to northwestern hospital. We tried their strawberry matcha with soy milk and it was so good. Disappointed that the picture shows it was pink foam but when it came out you can barely see it but the taste was great. We also had their hash browns which tasted just like the dunkin donut one but this was just one big piece. It's small inside but can get pretty busy. They only have one kiosk to order from and only two workers there when we came around. Overall this is right downtown which is convenient to come by if it's raining or if you're just taking a stroll. read more

After some reaving reviews, I was excited to try the donuts here. We waited in a decent line, and ordered 3 donuts. We proceeded to the cash register and my husband ordered the original combo. The cashier was dry and unpleasant. We wiped down our own table and took a seat. I began with my croissant donut. It had a nice custard inside that I wasn't expecting. It was good. My husband's Boston cream donut was smashed in the bottom of the bag and the paper took off most of the chocolate topping. The was barely any cream inside. He said he didn't particularly want to finish it. We were going to split the blueberry old fashioned donut but it was terrible. Dry and very artificial tasting. My husband's breakfast sandwich came out and was burned. The hashbrown was decent, a similar but more mild taste of Dunkin's. Because the blueberry donut was so terrible, I ordered a breakfast sandwich and hashbrown on the app. I took it back to my hotel to eat. After several bites, something tasted weird, or the texture was off. Upon a closer look, the croissant wasn't even cooked through. Please open in Los Angeles. I could stare at the donut case dreaming of each freshly baked item for days. I wanted a real breakfast and sugar and i got it all and more. I got a croissant sandwich and it was so fresh and so delicious. The croissant was flaky, warm and fresh. The eggs fluffy and the cheese melty. It felt made for me and not just eggs from a big batch. I was in heaven. I also got an apple fritter. I loved all the crunchy parts and the soft apple parts. It was very good as well. This was the cutest location too. Review Visit: November 26th, 2018 I stand by these delicious donuts. As my sister and I drove closer to our destination in Chicago, we spotted Stan's and I made a mental note to check it out in the future. While I helped my sister with some family things, I found myself with about 90 minutes to kill. What did I do with that free time? Explored, of course. I pulled out my phone and found Stan's on my GPS. Once it pointed me in the right direction to walk, I booked it there. Upon entering, I noticed how packed the place was for lunch. Not worrying about that, I hopped in line and started to pour over the selection of baked yummies they had on display. Not only did they have donuts but they had bagels and things I wouldn't classify as either a bagel or donut. Being the ever-indecisive person that I am, I let a few people pass me in line as I couldn't decide what I wanted. Once I saw the Peanut Butter Pocket, I instantly knew that is what I wanted. Peanut butter is my weakness. I ended up ordering that and a medium house roast coffee. While I was waiting for my coffee, I quickly snagged the last free table. Whew, I was worried I would have to eat my donut while walking around Chicago. After settling in, I went to town on the donut. It didn't stand a chance against my hunger. While I didn't eat all of it, I did put down most of it frighteningly quick. The only thing that was quicker was how sticky my hands got. Luckily there were plenty of napkins nearby. As for the donut itself, I did taste it while I vacuumed it down. Haha! It was filled with peanut butter, as I expected. It was pretty good. Donuts aren't usually my thing but if it's a unique place like this, I will definitely make an exception. As the donut disappeared, I scoured the area on my phone for a place to grab lunch. Once I settled on a place, I quickly cleaned up the table and left since it was busy and I didn't want to hog a spot. What about the coffee? I actually didn't start drinking it until I got to Bombay Wraps. It was pipping hot and I used the cold walk to speed up the cooling down process. Once it cooled off, I was able to try it out. The coffee was on par for what you would expect for a house blend. It didn't blow my socks off but it also didn't disappoint either. It definitely warmed me up after the cold walk a few city blocks to my lunch destination. Chicago is a massive city. You could explore a new place every day and never run out of places to try. If you do undertake a massive quest like that, make sure you hit up Stan's near the start of it. If you happen to find yourself in town for a day like I was, definitely stop in if you are craving a donut. read more

Stans was quite possibly the best donut I've had in the last 30 years! I had the chocolate dipped one and the frosting was the perfect balance to the cake donut inside. My husband had a sour cream donut and said it was the first time since he was a child that he could actually taste the sour cream in the donut. I took one star off because they were unable to make breakfast sandwiches on this day and the guy behind the counter seemed sick of everyone's shit. When we ordered a breakfast sandwich he said "yeah, not doing those today" so I said "ohh ok I'll need one more second." He rolled his eyes and walked away. It's important to note we were the only ones in line so it's not like we were holding him up. He came back and we ordered our donuts and coffee (which was also great, very balanced dark roast) without further incident. We will be back to Stans as the donuts and coffee were delicious. I just hope whatever that young man was going through on this day he's better today. read more

This is my go-to place to reward myself after a successful doctor's appointment here at Northwestern Memorial hospital. Staff here is always very happy and friendly and polite and calm. The donut shop is always clean. They serve La Colombe coffee, I believe. Donuts are expensive, but they are four steps above dunkin' Donuts if you're willing to treat yourself once in a great while. read more

You know what the best thing is about Stan's Donuts? Their brand and packaging! I give them real kudos for the brand they've developed. But developing a great end product - not so much. The cruller was too moist....to the point of almost wet in the inside. Donut had the taste of all sugar - no donut flavor to create that donut harmonious blend of flavor. Also had a regular glazed donut. The bit and chew was tough. With then, so much of so so bland cake flavor to the inner potion of the donut. Place (not) worth the time of day....and that's too bad. We got a few different donuts to try - which included their pistachio, cronut, and something that looked like a twisted glazed donut. I also ordered a chai latte. The atmosphere and staff are super cute and friendly. Even though it was busy, the staff was efficient and quick about service. We were able to get seating easily and appreciated that the bathrooms were clean. The donuts themselves were ok. I found them to be a little too sweet for my liking. Same with my chai latte, a little too sweet for me. This spot was recommended by a few friends so I definitely wanted to check it out. The only reason it doesn't revive 5 stars is no fault of their own...the lines were too long! I was on a time crunch but really wanted to try the coffee since it was so crowded! LOL. I took advantage of the kiosk to order and was able to get 2 large cups of dark blend to go while the line was still long. Luckily it was just across the street from the hotel. I enjoyed the coffee! Will definitely visit again! My only advise would be to put some structure in to manage the long line, like a divider the create 2 shorter long lines! Sounds like a good problem to have! read more

It's alright. I've visited a Stan's in the suburbs before and didn't think it was anything special, and that opinion hasn't really changed much. I think when I visited before they only did donuts at the time (I could be wrong about that, maybe I just didn't have an interest in anything else). I stopped in to grab something to have for breakfast and it was fine, if overpriced. The hashbrowns are just a triangle of hash brown, not worth it. The croissant sandwich was good, but again i think it was 6-7 so I'm not sure about paying for that again. I got a maple long john because I've always struggled to find maple donuts around here (especially without bacon included), and maple is a staple in my hometown so they've always been my favorite. This one was ok but the wrapping they put on it pulled a third of the maple off. It wasn't as pillowy as I like in that type of donut, but that's just a personal preference that is also harder to find in one of these. Overall, it cost just under $13. But steep, and while I'm glad it was easy and convenient when I needed to pick up something to eat, I also won't be a destination place for me. I'm not sure I understand the popularity outside it being the Hot New(ish) Thing (Einstein Bros was once very popular too!). It's a glorified Dunkin that's more expensive. read more

This is the Stan's Donuts located at Erie and Fairbanks in the Lavin Pavilion at Northwestern Hospital. I've been here quite a few times since I have multiple doctors I see regularly in the building. The donuts are always tasty and they actually make a decent cappuccino. Service is quick too. The gentleman that checked me out yesterday was super nice and chill - gave me a laugh when he noticed my cat's photo as the background on my phone.
