I love this place. The atmosphere is what drive me to keep going in. They're what Homedepot was when it first open the door. They had knowledge person in each section. Well Stanley has it all the time, 24-7. I went to buy a wall socket in Homedepot and they had a girl employee that didn't know Neg from Pos. i just had a positive experience here i wanted to share. So i purchased a item here and it broke before i installed it. I called ahead and they assured me that that would help me. I was a bit nervous because things are going up and businesses are more reluctant to give you your money back. They helped the entire time. No receipt but the guy found my purchase with just me remembering that i purchased a Red fly swatter with my mirror. And i got a high five for remembering too. I just love stuff like this it makes the place more memorable and makes you select this store before others. A great little hardware store with a big impact. I needed a part for a pipe and i couldn't find it well i actually didn't know what i was looking for anyway the staff helped me for at least 20 minutes. So, I live about a half mile from this place on the Manayunk, Roxborough border, and I've gone there a few times to pick up various things, as I like to support local business and avoid the big box stores if I can. As such, I've been willing to put up with the horrible parking lot situation and what have generally been marginally higher prices than at the big chains. Well, today, I developed a leak in my bathroom sink faucet (an American Standard) and determined I needed to replace the cartridge in it. I looked up the model online, and saw that generally the part sells between $10-$15. At the "orange" store, it cost 14 dollars. Shipped direct from American Standard, it would cost 20 bucks, with postage. It's a common part, so I figured Stanley's would have it, and they did. But with tax, IT WAS 35 BUCKS. This is almost how much the whole faucet would cost to replace. Looking at other cartridges they had in stock, including other American Standards, they all ran 10-20 bucks, so I figured it might be a mistake, so I went up to the counter and after waiting in their ridiculous line setup, eventually got to the counter, where I was greeted by an older woman with curly hair. I asked her if the price was correct, and she said that yes, that was the price. I then said it's 14 bucks at the other place and asked politely if there was any room to move on the price. What was the worst that could happen? She could tell me the store didn't price match, or the manager could come over and say sorry, but they couldn't do it, right? That's not what happened at all. Instead, she shot me a nasty look and just said "H*LL NO." I put the part on the counter and walked out. This was one of the rudest interactions with a clerk I have ever had, even for a rough-edged town like Philly. Totally uncalled-for and UNPROFESSIONAL. One of the main points of going to local places is to deal with your neighbors rather than a faceless and nameless corportation. Well Stanley's has a face, all right, and it's the face of a total jerk. read more

I want to say this is the best informative and helpful hardware store in town. The igniter to my furnace broke in the middle of the snow storm. Not only were they open first thing on a Saturday morning, but they had the replacement part! Thank you for saving us from freezing during this blizzard! This is a "damn-I can only rate 5 stars when it deserves 500" kind of place. This is another frequent stop for me when I am staying with my grandparents. It's an Ace Hardware but it veers so far away from a typical chain store I can't even think of it as one. Over the last 7 years, I must have shopped here more than 90 times; for myself and for my grands. Not once did I get brusque or indifferent service. Every single time I have been in here, at least 3 people ask me if I need help as I am walking around. Now that may bother some people, but not me. I am a 10 thumbed gay boy who knows how to execute a cute French tuck and make a dull living room spiffier than *that* (snaps fingers) in 30 minutes but I can't change a washer in a faucet or properly replace a roll of paper towels. The first time I was here was during the Polar Vortex. My grandpa had put something down the garbage disposal and it was clogged and non-functional. His wife insisted it needed fixing immediately. Warren to the (gulp) rescue. I put on ice cleats and walked to Stanley's in a huffy mood. It was open and as soon as I walked in, I was asked if I needed help. I explained what was going on. The man I spoke to told me he did not actually work there but knew the owner, lived close by and was filling in because several employees didn't make it in due to the severe weather. He said I looked worried (I was-my grandmother has a fierce temper) but he would make sure I got what I needed. He walked me over to the big counter towards the back of the store, introduced me to the young man working it and explained my issue and what he thought I needed. He said he needed to greet other people coming in but told me to check in with him before I left. Counter guy asked some good questions to hone in on what was probably wrong then walked me around to a few different aisles to get exactly what was needed for the task. He was never rushed and he did not talk down to me. He even got me a basket for supplies; something I had forgotten to do when I entered the store. He escorted me to the cashier, told me I should have everything I needed but added if I had questions when I got home to absolutely call the store and someone would be glad to help over the phone. After I'd paid for everything, the man who'd initially greeted me was at the front so I went over to thank him for calming me down and being so kind. He asked if I was new in the neighborhood. I told him I was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. XXXX. He laughed and said he'd gone to school with both of them then asked if my grandma still had the temper of a harpie. Yes, sir, she certainly does. Philly is the second-largest city on the U.S.'s East Coast and the 5th most populous city in the U.S. yet here I was, getting small town treatment and friendliness in a "chain" store. Hardware stores are not my jam. I know essentially nothing about anything DIY. However every time I come in here my anxieties melt away. Everyone is so kind and helpful here. Compared to going to a Home Depot where I consider hiding in the lighting section and crying a bit. Stanley's hardware is always somewhere I go when I need something for a diy project/when I'm looking for anything I need for around the house. The staff is and has always been unbelievable. Whether I need help finding the right paint, sand paper, bolt or simply my way around the store they are always there to help. Even when I do not need help, it is always offered. It is impossible to walk around the store without at least 3 different employees asking you if you need any help. That can not be said about large chain hardware stores (or most stores in general theses days). This store is one of the best around with extremely helpful and knowledgeable employees. I dropped off a door screen for repair only in the area once a week and was on a tight schedule . I mentioned that to the clerk. He said they will call when they are done. I had a change of heart and ask for the screen back. Another employee said they can rush it. Ok then I asked how much for the repair he said $16.00 I thought that was high but never had a screen repaired before. They never called and I had a appointment . Week later I pick up the screen it took them 10-15 min to find the screen and raised the price. I mention this to the cashier at check out and she said you can go back there a have it out with the them. My response was I don't have the time or patience. I remember this hardware store when they were a small shop. The prices were reasonable and the staff were genuine. This place is overpriced and gave me lousy service. Will never return!! read more

Convenient, good selection of tools and hardware but the service is poor quality. I have come to this Stanley's hardware multiple times because it is conviently located and the traffic is much less than what I would incurred driving to the nearest Lowes or Home Depot. I will say every time I have gone they have had what I am looking for which is great; however, the employees I have interacted with have not been of high quality on 2 occasions. One visit I was in need of some copper pipe fittings and valaves and needed some assistance, I wandered around the store looking for an employee and found a group of three standing at the back. I asked for some help and one responded no problem I will be right there. He proceeded to drink his coffee and converse with the other two employees, around 7 or 8 minutes go by and I am still waiting. I circle back by the individual who stated he would be right over and he is still talking with his coworkers laughing and having a great time. I ask for assistance again and he sternly responds "I said I will be right there." He then follows me to the isle and when I explain my project and the size fittings I need he told me I was wrong. Not making a suggestion of any type just flat out stating I am wrong with what I stated I needed. He left off with a "I don't know what to tell ya" And walked a way. I found another employee that was more than happy to help me and was very knowledge and ended up pointing out what I needed, and it worked. Overall this is a convient store and location but the one employee mentioned above really made it an unpleasant visit and occasionally you'll have a lady at the check out stand who when is having a bad day let's you know it. When I checked in to Stanley's for the first time from the parking lot, I couldn't believe a hardware star had earned a perfect 5 star rating on Yelp. I thought it had to be a fluke, because what could be so great about a local hardware store? I'm here to tell you it is not a fluke. Stanley's is perhaps the most accommodating, wonderful shopping experience I've had just about anywhere. The staff is amazing - so many super friendly folks who are always checking in to see if they can help you out, yet they're not overbearing and leave you alone if you say you're good. They have a seemingly endless knowledge base, and answered every question I came up with. Stanley's has an impressive selection for a bit of a smaller store (compared to the super big box chains), and we managed to find pretty much everything we needed for a weekend of DIY projects around the new house.
