10Th Street Hardware Ace - Hardware Stores Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I always had a positive experience at 10 Th St Hardware I have purchased many things there a week ago. I bought two plants for my balcony and unfortunately they died. I called 10 Th St Hardware to see if I could with my receipt come in and get two more for the two that shouldn't have died within a week and they told me that it was not in the return policy to take back any plants to die I find this so unacceptable. They are seasonal potted flowers and there was no reason for them to die. There was also no reason not to exchange them. I will not be returning to 10th St. hardware because of their customer service. read more

Saved the day by having a nut I needed for my car. Very helpful service and a good price.

I've been here once. Bought a plunger and screws. Very friendly staff. The store is small and lanes are tight but you can find most of what you need here. read more

Great hardware store. Amazingly well stocked. Neat as a pin. Excellent attentive and fast service.

Once again we had fantastic service from one of the owners of 10th Street Hardware. This time it was Steve DeShong. He spent a goodly amount of time on Saturday trying to figure out how to fix a broken soap dispenser (purchased elsewhere) we had brought in. Even though he couldn't get it to work (and we ended up buying a new one from his store), we were impressed with his determination to help us. We have been loyal customers of this store for years and value the fantastic advice and help we get from Steve and his partner Troy Usnik. read more

I'm updating my prior review because it seems as though the store may have changed management, and it became a fully aligned Ace Hardware. However it continues to be great - with very helpful knowledgeable service, and although it's pretty small it almost always has everything I need. And contrary to expectation, many of the items are not more expensive than what you find at Home Depot or Lowe's. That has surprised me. I bought a grill from Home Depot and then was sad to see I could've got it here locally for exactly the same price! I bought a set of grill tools here for less money than a lower quality set was at the big box store. And for small or specialty items like screws and hardware you can't beat the helpful service that this place provides. It's great to have a local hardware store like this read more

What kind & efficient SERVICE! The reasons you go here and the sister location at 3rd Street. I wanted to purchase a toolbox and stock it for my son-in-law who lives in Manhattan (he's a lawyer) Why? Because last Fathers Day, his first , I forgot to acknowledge it, to even give him a card . So I did my homework, went on Home Depot's website, made a wish list. Wanting to cater to my favorite local proprietor, I gave him my list. He not only saved me 40% over "big bad" HD prices, he had 98% of what I wanted, and had it all ready for me to pick it up on Memorial Day . I love hardware stores and the people that run them. They're right-up there with policemen & firemen, if you ask me. Thank you Troy & Steve. You GUYS ARE THE BEST! read more

This place has been my saving grace twice in one week! Hooray for 10th street hardware! I was on search for a showerhead since my one at home broke. Both Target locations were a bust and I didn't want to travel all the way to South Philly for Wal-Mart. A few minutes walk from the MFL, this hardware store had exactly what I needed. Not only did I purchase a great showerhead, which I absolutely love, the employee was willing to order me another model that I first caught my attention. However, I didn't want to wait three business days. Behold, on my way home that very night to use my new showerhead, I lost my house keys! Guess what? The next day, I went back to 10th st and got an awesome set of keys made. Quick and easy, in no time flat. The guys are really helpful and will walk you through anything you have questions about anything, step by step. It's a small family owned business but is as huge as other chain hardware places. It's perfect. read more

10Th Street Hardware Ace - Key design - Hardware Stores Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I love this store. It's conveniently located half a block from a PATCO station so on the way in and out of work, it's amazing that I have this adorable little hardware store on my route. They pack in a LOT of stock in a very small space - literally, it's floor to ceiling high. If you don't see what you need, ASK. I was on the hunt for a small little heater I could bring to my office without having to lug it on the PATCO ride, so I initially responded online messaging to see if they had it in stock. The response was quick and the next day, I was able to purchase the heater for less than what I had seen it in a few nearby shops. Win Win Win. read more

Have been coming here for quite a long time and recently have realized its really not that great unfortunately. I have been making lots of purchases lately doing some odd jobs around the house. The people there are nice enough, but several times now they have not provided me with any useful advice. For example, I was buying a towel rack. There was no indication as to what was included inside (screws, size, dry wall mount, etc). He just said "I don't know" and that I should buy the other parts separately. Once I got home, indeed everything was inside and because of their 7day return policy, I couldn't get back to the store in time to return the extra stuff. I figure they should know more about what they're selling. That's fine if you don't know all the answers, but then your return policy has to be more flexible because frequently, home improvement doesn't go the way you think it would. Recently was asking questions about what size screw I would use for something and again, got no useful help other than a shrug and that I "don't need a masonry screw," which was obviously since I don't have a cement wall. I just haven't gotten the vibe that anyone cares that much about me there. I always feel very rushed when I'm shopping there too. The day after my latest shopping trip to 10th street, I went to Home Depot and I hate to say it, but everyone there was so much more knowledgeable, helpful, and nice. When you're an amateur and trying to learn about this stuff and figure things out, thats what you need. They do indeed have a crazy amount of stuff for such a small shop. Very impressive. If you're in a pinch and don't have time to get out to a larger hardware store and you generally know what you're doing, they'll almost definitely have what you need. Otherwise I'll be heading out to the burbs from now on for my hardware needs. read more

There probably isn't one thing in 10th Street Hardware that appeals to me. Paint, keys, locks, cleaning products, hoses, wrenches. No thanks. I will say though, when I do need any of the aforementioned items, there's no other hardware store I prefer to shop at. It would've been 5 stars if they had given me the correct paint both times I needed it. Instead, my newly painted wall dried in 2 different tones of grey. Then again, it would've been 3 stars if Andy hadn't given me a gallon of the grey for free. As far as your neighborhood hardware store goes, this place is pretty great. read more

Helpful. friendly. Much more pleasant than Home Deopt (no shade to Home Depot, but... you know...). Considering this place is smaller than my center city apartment, they have EVERYTHING you could ever need! read more

I have been a huge fan of 10 St. Hardware ever since moving to Philly seven years ago. It is a clean well-organized spot with good service. Today was an egregious exemption! The guy who "helped " me was rude, dismissive and uninformed about their stock. I guess he missed the staff training day when they covered courtesy. I hope to continue shopping at the N. 3rd street location and will skip the place on 10th Street. A real shame. This young man reflects very poorly on the owners. read more

Well ran an attentive , clean and has large selection fo such a small store , keep supporting local small business when ever possible

Look, I'm not handy. So when something breaks I need someone who knows more about fixing it than I do. These guys always have what I need and I'm in and out in a matter of minutes with expert knowledge. I can't say that they are super pricey but I have never had sticker shock when at the register... probably because I don't have a clue what hardware purchases should cost. It's a small shop but it's organized and if you ask for help, you'll get it. They're not super friendly but they're super efficient. Their hours are convenient (unlike Rittenhouse Hardware) and I've always left satisfied. read more

I'm upgrading my review to 5 stars! The other day, I came here to buy some supplies for one of the hardware store employees, John to do some work at my apartment, what a great experience! John met me here at the store and walked me through the store, told me everything I needed and my options for him to do the necessary repairs and other household items. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices of the items- $30 for a handheld shower faucet that's good quality, would've been $5 more at another nearby hardware store, $13? for a Brita pitcher- very reasonably priced, could've easily been $5 more elsewhere. They have a good selection of items too! I started liking Meyer's Clean Day Soap and they have lots to choose from, many options of cleaning chemicals, a good assortment of hooks, nails, etc. I'm really pleased with John's work in my apartment- he is my new odd job/handyman, and I'm very happy! In an hour and a half- he installed a shower faucet, sealed off drafts from windows, assembled a floor lamp, hung pictures, caulked areas- I'm really impressed! I didn't pay much either, it was affordable, he was prompt, reliable, responsive to texts and I will definitely use him again and give his name to friends in need of a handyman! Really happy with John and 10th Street Hardware!! read more

I've shopped here many times. Convenient and close by. Never had an issue. In April, I purchased 2 gallons of grey wall paint. Normally when mixed paint is purchased, the associate puts a small dab of paint on the lid. That didn't happen. Didn't think it was a big deal. Due to remodeling delays, I started painting in June. When I opened the paint, one gallon was considerably darker, almost black. I called 10th Street Hardware. The Associate that answered said they don't allow refunds or returns for mixed paint. I tried to explain but he became very rude. The associate then said I should have confirmed the color immediately after the purchase. I asked to speak to the manager who couldn't have been any nicer. The manager said they would remix a new gallon at no charge. I arrived a the store. I told the Associate that I had called. His response "Yup". He then proceeded to mix the paint. I was checking email, looked up and notice the remixed gallon on the counter along with a stir stick. No "here you go". Not a word. The Associate had stepped back from the counter and was cleaning up. I took the paint and said "Thank you". The Associate responded "Yup". Rude read more

I needed some keys copied one day, so I dropped by 10th street. I used to live nearby, have since moved a few blocks away, but still use them for all of my hardware needs. Anyhow, I get my copies made, head home, test out the new keys and... they get stuck in the lock. Really stuck. And I shear off the handle trying to get it out. I know what you're thinking. All that trouble and still he gives them five stars? Well the saga continues. I call them up, let them know of my woes and ask if they can recommend a locksmith nearby. Instead, the owner comes to my house, fixes the lock FREE OF CHARGE, and even gives me a ride back to the store for a replacement key. All of this service for a customer who only spent three bucks on some key copies? That's going above and beyond. That's worthy of a sixth star. read more

As a new mom (a new working mom), I try to get all of my "to-do" items done during my lunch break, b/c packing the 3-monther in the car seat, re-upping his baby bag, putting him in the car, occupying him while the car is stopped at red lights, and then hooking up the stroller and getting him in the store ... doesn't seem worth the trip to Home Depot to get a key copy made! This morning I figured I'd see if Market East had any options and found this place on yelp. Ran over during my lunchbreak and had the fastest service at a price tag of only $2.15. Of course, I will not officially claim victory, seeing as how I'm not 100% sure that the key will actually work! If not, I will be sure to update accordingly... Update: the key worked, hence 5 stars. read more

The selection and price are good but it is the people working here that make it 5 stars. Laid back but they are always first to say hi. Because the floor in my new apartment is uneven (in Philly?) and it was messing with the slats I had to find a solution to brace it here and there. Long story short the guy figured those cylindrical wooden dowels would fit and offered to do the cuts for me on the table saw in the basement. No charge, no whining, no "see ya later good luck with your problem." Well done fellas. read more

The guys here are patient and they know their stuff. I arrived, parts list in hand and they were able to get me exactly what I needed to make my project a success. I didn't come in here looking to stop a draft under my door or handle other well known apartment issues. I came in looking for parts to build tiki torches out of old wine bottles. I had a parts list and with the assistance of the staff, we started gathering supplies. I needed threaded bolts to use as supports and they had exactly what I needed in stock. They even cut the bolts in half for me and re-created the threads on the ends so that it would be easy for me to assemble my finished project. We also discussed heat issues and they were great about offering alternative solutions to the minor issues I ran into. By the end of my visit, the staff of 3 were all interested and excited about my project. They asked for pictures which I will gladly furnish once the torches are installed. This is a great store and a perfect reason to skip a trip to the big box stores on Columbus. 10th Street Hardware is one of the reasons that buying local is awesome, it's their care, knowledge and customer service that makes them shine. read more

The good: Customer service! It's not often that you find people who seem to be really dedicated to helping customers. This little store is stocked to the brim and employs people who are willing to help you get your job done. In such a small store, the salespeople really have nowhere to hide. The bad: Not all their advice has been good advice. The grafitti remover they sold me... didn't remove my grafitti. As for the screw and bracket set, well, the screws don't fit through the brackets. At least they tried though. I guess the alternative would be to have poor service. If that was the case, I'd blame myself for my mistakes rather than blaming them. I went back to get new screws as the ones that they sold me didn't work, and they offered to replace them for free! The guy at the counter remembered who I was and did his best to help. All in all, they seem to have everything that I need to make minor home improvements and repairs (i.e. shelving installation, window shades, coat rack installation, grafitti removal, etc.). It is nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood, as not all of us have cars to use to drive to Home Depot. read more

I have used this hardware store multiple times since moving and this last occasion made me thrilled to be a customer. I showed up around 7:01pm (right after close) and the store attendant was outside getting ready to head home. He saw me get bummed out seeing the store closed. I told him that I needed a wrench and after talking for a little bit he was gracious enough to reopen the store so I could get my needed wrench! Thank-you for being a great neighbourhood store! read more

10th Street is generally convenient and pleasant. I've been going here for years. Tonight I went in for a replacement air filter and left very unamused. I was in need of a standard 16x20 flat filter. They insisted that I purchase an entire case of 12, and it would run me $20. Unlike this type of filter though, the other more premium filters were sold by single quantities. I said I'll take the case of 12, out of principle that didn't really matter to me. I'm going to use them eventually. The case was brought down, and was totally open and missing one. They tried to ring it up by deducting the price of one off, however clearly the only way it got reduced to 11 was because someone sold a single filter at some point. So I asked if you're going to deduct one off, why in theory can you not sell me 2 or 3? They insisted this is how the "owners want to sell it." My question to the owners: why did you insist on having your employees sell this to me as a full case, when clearly that rule was previously broken and, to my understanding, most people buy a filter or two at a time. I'm bummed because typically you guys are really accommodating and reasonable, but this was obnoxious. read more

My first instinct was to give this place 3 stars, as my most recent visit there was just average. It is half a block from my place, so it is extremely convenient, but the space is cramped and even though I walked into the store before 3 other people, I was last to get waited on. The reason it is getting 4 stars is because when I first moved into the neighborhood, I had some overflowage in my bathroom and ran to the hardware store to buy a mop and bucket. It was slow in the store and the sales guy was nice enough to come back to my place and give me an education on how to deal with said overflow. read more

I was there the other day and the employees were using a blow torch to make toasted carmelized peanut butter and banana sandwiches. These guys need their own reality show. They have everything. I began using hardware stores regularly in college. A plastic tube, a nice big funnel, you stick them together and you're the life of the party... for about an hour until you passed out. Nowadays I find myself at the hardware store for one of two reasons, I want to build something or I've F'd something up. I've been to 10th St, HW for both. When I first walked in I thought, there's no way they'll have what I need, this place is way too small, but much like an M. Night Shyamalan flick I was about to get my mind blown. My first trip was due to a sink jam. I thought I could put kale stems down the garbage disposal... a lot of kale stems. After all the traditional fixes failed I decided I'd dissect the pipes under the sink but I needed a pipe wrench. A friendly gentleman and I walked over to the wing bolts and then the wall moved exposing another layer of bolts, and then the wall moved again and there they were!! Shiny red pipe wrenches. How many layers were there? I explained what everything looked like and they picked out the right one for me. I tried to up sell myself and tried to buy the bigger more expensive one but they were like, trust us you'll be fine. And I was. The second time I went I needed to build a divider in my automatic cat feeder bc the dominate cat eats all the food and then the other cat spends the rest of the day reaching up the trap trying to get fed (much like myself in Genuardi's circa 1988). Again I tried to up sell myself by using composite wood but they gave me paint stirrers and said give this a try since they're free. They didn't work but I was very appreciative of their attempt at saving me money. If I can give a tip to anyone thinking of going here, think about what your project is and what you might need and then plan on letting the guys there know because there ain't no way you'll find it yourself. You may also gain some helpful tips along the way. read more
