I went to this location based on the positive reviews, hoping to get a key copied. I walked in and asked if I could have my E-bike key copied and the owner aggressively said "no", without any explanation. He said it with a tone, as if I asked for something taboo and I immediately wonderned of I had said something wrong. I don't have any problem with them not offering the service, but as a customer its just good business and communication skills to explain why a service is not offered and to then provide alternative solutions. I felt very uncomfortable about the exchange and his abrasiveness. read more

Should be your go-to place for key copies, and any other hardware needs! Super friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable staff. I came in at 6:30pm one night for 2 key copies that were giving me trouble at brand name stores, and left at 6:35 with my new keys in hand. & they were less than a quarter of the price of what they would've cost at the other brand-name stores too! on Tuesday, November 4 at 9:45 AM I went into Rittenhouse hardware to get some circuit breakers like I have many times in the past... and the person working was rude and disrespectful like I have never encountered before. He basically threw the circuit breakers at me and was talking under his breath as he walked away. I'll never go back to the store again because I had no idea that they employed such assholes like this. read more

I love these guys. This is how a hardware store should be. Knowledgable and friendly, these guys ALWAYS help, they always have ideas, they always know where things are. Contrast - There are times when I reluctantly have to go to Home Depot. It's useful for large things sometimes, but the people there are barely literate and never helpful, even if you can find them. The staff at Rittenhouse Hardware is the BEST! On many occasions, my boyfriend and I have stopped in with an assortment of issues we are trying to resolve at home (mounting a tv into a wall that is backed with brick, etc) and they always have suggestions and product options that would do the trick. The price point is not the cheapest option, but not the most expensive either. If you live in the neighborhood, the convenience factor is a huge pro when compared to the larger, chain options that require a car ride to get there. In the early summertime they have a great selection of outdoor plants. I recommend snagging them when you see them, because I made the mistake of waiting and going back later and everything I had seen was gone! They seem to restock often though. read more

Perk: They had a store dog greeting you, his name is Carl. Another perk: Friendly associates. Context: I needed to throw out my old mattress and per the Philly Sanitation website, if you're planning to throw it out on garbage day, then it needs to be put in a mattress bag. I entered the store, I was overwhelmed and amazed at how much stuff they had, all organized neatly on walls and shelves. I asked one of the associates where I could find mattress disposal bags and they found it for me. I was in the store for 5 mins max. Just popped in here today because we had a leaky u-bend under our sink. Thought maybe we needed a new sealy thing, but no! After chatting with one of the guys here he explained we just need to move the pipe up because it must have dropped down with all the vibration of the garbage disposal. So we spent $0 but saved ourselves water damage and calling the landlord/having a plumber come by. I'll say it again: this place is a godsend. AND now they have a shop doggy! (Or at least the last two times I have been there, there's been a doggo.) read more

And while I haven't done a penny-to-penny comparison of their prices, they always seem reasonable to me. This store is stocked as if it was in Diagonal Alley; not one inch of the wall/ceiling is wasted. I barely know the difference between a nail and a screw, but all the guys here don't care and are so kind and patient as I list off everything I need and say, "I don't know" and "I'm sorry" between every item. Although, I'm sure they can go toe to toe with the most experienced handyman alike. COVID experience: Everyone has masks on the store, and they are monitoring how many customers enter. Never a shortage of gents to help you find what you need! I always try and get what i need for home improvement or investment properties here, before i head to the Big Box Stores ( B.B.S.) where one could walk front to back and not be able to get customer service. Many items cost the same as in BBS's , but often are cheaper! And on that stray occasion when an item might be .50 or 1.00 more I happily shell it out. Great local hardware supply. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. They have a lot of staff in the front of the store. This can come across as somewhat intimidating when you first walk in but they are genuinely helpful. They keep me from needing to drive to a big box store or order online. Wow I wish my tiny apartment was as organized and efficiently utilized as this cute hardware store. They had so much to offer and it was very tidy. The employees were attentive and asked me if I needed help the moment I walked in I had my keys duplicated for $2 each. They had all kinds of key rings and key gadgets if you so desired. They werent able to duplicate one of my keys and recommended a locksmith because it was a hard key to come by. They finished duplicating within 3 minutes. 5$ minimum for debit or credit but because I had no cash on me, (my total was $4.50) they let it slide. So nice! As I went to a locksmith after with. $25 minimum and made me walk a few blocks to an ATM for a $20 key duplicate. read more

The keys they cut always work, glass always fits in the frame and if you bring in the broken bit you are looking for 99/100 times they have it. Good, old-fashioned hardware store! The guys there aren't always warm & fuzzy (though some are!), but they're more personable than folks at big-box stores. They also are always helpful and have a LOT of what you need in a pinch, from special light bulbs to plants & garden supplies, pond pumps, and room fans. They give advice to those of us challenged in the fix-it department, and even lent me, once, a bolt cutter when I couldn't find keys to a lock on my basement windows. They stayed open through out the pandemic, which was a Godsend. I'm super-grateful that they're there! read more

This is the greatest hardware store ever (maybe greatest store...period). I've come there with so many random requests & needs -- anchors for my very (Very!) weak walls, frame hooks, plant care, bolt snaps, questions about my outdoor space heater / propane tanks, command strips, more plant care, help with a reupholstery project, you name it. And EVERY TIME the staff is generous, helpful, knowledgeable, kind & creative with their solutions to my problems. I resist going to a big hardware store at all cost now. These guys are the absolute BEST. Every single time I enter their store, someone is ready to help. And they are all very knowledgeable. They have just about everything you need at very good prices. They are also very helpful. I had a small home project that required a particular cutting tool that I did not own. It was a simple cut. I brought in the item that needed to be cut and they cut it for me. Really, super nice people here. Great store and very helpful people. I needed to replace an electrical outlet and came here to buy a replacement. The store is so much nicer to shop in than those big box hardware stores! Small but has everything you need. And someone happy to show you where to find it! When I tried to swap in the new outlet I couldn't figure out how to wire it, so I came back and the guy there explained very clearly. I did what he suggested and it worked like a charm!
