I scheduled service for an in house cleaning for a 5 x 7 oriental style rug. I was told on the phone I could get the in-home service for about half the price of the off-site service so we proceeded. Our window was from 8am-1pm, after calling several times, the team didn't arrive until 12:58, considerably after we were told they were on their way around 11:40am. Upon arrival they said they parked far away and didn't want to bring the machines over, so they rolled up the carpet and said they'd do it at the van. We are still unclear if they laid it on the street/sidewalk or what they did, but it wasn't what we expected. I wasn't home, but when they first returned the rug, my fiancé said it smelled fresh and looked vibrant. They advised it was still damp and needed time to dry so we hung it over some chairs to let air circulate around it. Within a few hours it began to smell terrible so he opened the windows. By the time I got home around 5:30 our apartment smelled like wet, rotten eggs to the point where we had no choice but to go hang it in the garage. We are extremely unhappy and will be in contact with them for resolution. read more

We asked for and was given an estimate for carpet cleaning. I re-confirmed the estimate when Stanley Steemer called to see if we wanted to schedule an appointment. When your technician showed up today and looked around for a moment, he said that he had to call his manager. A few minutes later, your tech said that the price would be $600 + tax and not $200 + tax as quoted. What was the point of having one of your representatives come in and give us an estimate....if on the day of the scheduled service, Stanley comes back to us with a price of 3X's the estimate. This is an outrageous way to conduct business and was a complete waste of our time. We will be making a yelp review in order to warn potential customers of your business practices. I just bought a house where the previous owners had pets, so I paid Stanley Steamer to clean and deodorize the carpet on 2 sets of stairs, in one bedroom, and in the basement. Walking though the front door after the cleaning I immediately knew they had not deodorized the carpets. I then looked at the carpets and sure enough, found dog hair still in them. I reached out to Stanley Steamer customer service about this and after a few days was followed up with by a local manager. He was very nice and professional and scheduled a re cleaning for me the following day. The next day a cleaner came, said he was there to deodorize and rake the carpets if he found hair... not re clean them. He then sprayed some deodorizer on the carpet, said he couldn't find any hair in the carpets, left a bottle of deodorizer for us to put on ourselves then left. So the carpets still stink, I'm going to have to pay another carpet service to come and do a proper job, and when I use my basic old hoover vacuum I am still filling the bag with pet hair. All in all I'm out $350.00, and still have carpets that smell and are full of pet hair. Cheers. 10/10 would not recommend. read more

Be very careful with these people. They pulled a straight up bait and switch on me. I was quoted one price for 6 rooms (about 600.00), then they told me it was 8 rooms. Ok, what could 2 rooms cost another 200.00 maybe? Ok go ahead. 1) They didn't move any furniture 2) They supposedly cleaned an area rug, which had a table and chairs on it, they didn't move the table and chairs, but charged me to clean a rug? 3) They didn't clean the floor under the rug. 4) The team they sent bare spoke English, they couldn't understand me, and vice versa. The list goes on and on. I was charged nearly 4 times the amount of the quote, and what does the scum of the earth from SS say when he calls? "Well, we have your signature". Sure you do, because if I didn't produce a credit card, things would have turned out a lot worse. Completely unprofessional. This Yelp review is just the beginning, I'm hitting every part of social media to spread the word of what scum this guy is. I have hard wood floors, for the amount they charged to do a "cleaning" I could have had the floors sanded, stained and varnished for the same price, and I'm sure the furniture would be moved. I was so disappointed with Stanley Steemer. I asked them to work on two couches (no carpets) and gave them a heads up that there would be a lot of pet hair and asked whether that would be an issue; they never responded to that. The day of, however, the two people working on the couches used a scraper that got up some -- but far from all -- of the hair. Now, granted -- there was a LOT of pet hair. But I felt like they did a very cursory job and really rushed through it. At the end, they said "the hair was too embedded in the fabric" -- so after they left, I got out a $2.99 hair roller and finished the job myself. For what I paid, I would've been halfway to a new couch! The only good thing is that whatever deoderizer they used really worked well on the pet odor. But for the price, again, I could've just bought a can of Febreze. Save your money -- go someplace else or handle it yourself! read more

Beyond disappointed with this company right now. The first time I got my carpet cleaned 2 years ago, they did a fabulous job. But... I scheduled them today to have my baige carpet in my bedroom cleaned. The time frame was anywhere between 12noon to 6pm which is a pretty big window of time. You'd think they'd call you to inform you when they're on the way or give you an approximate time once the day got started, but they didn't which really turned me off. I let them in and it took them 12 minutes and said they were done. I honestly sincerely saw no difference in the carpet whatsoever. We contacted (Clifton, NJ) Stanley Steemer to clean several rooms and a sofa. When on-site, my 9-month pregnant wife was pressured into adding an area rug cleaning service, which we did not request originally, nor need. After some back-and-forth, one of the servicemen said they would do it for free, to which my wife responded (quite specifically) "well if its free, then why not". When the service was finished and the bill presented, my wife was horrified to see a massive charge related to the area rug cleaning (the largest individual part of the bill, which was not a service we originally requested). Upon questioning why it was on the bill, the servicemen backtracked on the original statement of it being a free throw-in, saying they would love to do it for free, but they don't make those decisions. My wife - being highly non-confrontational, 9 months pregnant, and intimidated by being alone in the house with 2 grown men who had just performed services but were not yet paid - begrudgingly signed off to get the men from the home. I came home later to find out what had happened and immediately called the company to dispute what had happened, despite it being after-hours. When I was called back today by the company, they refused to refund that aspect of the service (i.e., just the area rug cleaning) in any way (by way of cash, credit, gift certificate, etc.), only offering a small, fractional token gift card but nothing more. read more

My appointment window was between 12-6 pm est and I asked for an update. They replied with a between 4-5pm and showed up at 630pm. My building doesn't allow work post 6pm so I asked to reschedule for following day and they said Monday. I called the local Stanley Steemer to have my air ducts cleaned. I was in the process of having my broken AC unit replaced and was instructed to first have the ducts cleaned by the AC installer tech. So, I figured I'd call Stanley Steemer and set up a duct cleaning appointment. During the call I mentioned to the rep my situation saying the current AC is no longer working and is in the process of being replaced I asked if that will be a problem, the rep said no. A man from Stanley Steemer showed up the next day to check out the duct work and give me an estimate. Again, it was mentioned to the Stanley Steemer rep that the AC was getting replaced and currently didn't work. The rep said that wouldn't be a problem. A visit was scheduled with the cleaning crew for that weekend. The Stanley Steemer cleaning crew arrived and they told me they couldn't clean the duct work because the unit had to be running - WTF? Long story short, I found a coupon from a local business named Envirogreen cleaning. Their tech showed up on time, said the ducts CAN be cleaned if the AC wasn't running and he did a fabulous job. Envirogreen Cleaning charged $100 less than Stanley Steemer's quote and my new AC unit is scheduled to be installed this week. I will NEVER call Stanley Schemer for anything again nor would I recommend them to my worst enemy. I would however refer Envirogreen cleaning out of White Plains, NY to anyone who needs a duct cleaning service, they were very thorough, polite and quite professional. read more

Stay as far away as possible from these guys. They ruined a chair that was ok, damaged the stained chair even further and are incredibly helpless and work with a rude insurance company. I had them come to clean a stain off a west elm leather chair. Since i have two they recommended after cleaning the stained one, i should then protect both of them. The guy who came ended up rubbing so much on the stain that the color lifted around the stain (stain still intact) and actually damaged the texture of the chair so it now looks like suede in that spot (more rough not smooth and silky). after the chairs dried from the protection, i noticed tons of streaks all over both chairs.. almost like when you clean glass and see the vertical lines. They sent over higher up techs the week after who said there is nothing they can do to fix the damaged cushion or the streaked chairs and they would need to send to insurance who will then pay to reupholster or replace fully. After a month and a half of going back and forth with their 3rd party insurance adjuster who was incredibly rude.. hung up multiple times on me, never responded to my emails, wouldn't let me speak with a manager. The woman from the clifton location who was handling my case is MIA/unresponsive. I called Stanley Steamers customer service and they elevated it but all they could do is have the insurance adjusters manager call me. They are only giving me 2k to correct the chairs. its about 3,100 to have them reupholstered and 3400 to have them replaced. So a chair that was perfectly fine and a chair that i knew i potentially had to replace BOTH need to be replaced so i am officially out more money then when i began. Its ridiculous. read more

This review might be long and almost comical, but it is worth a read. Stanley Steemer was recommended to me for stripping and sealing our tile floors. I run a medical clinic, and to complete this job, I have to close early to move equipment and have staff come in early to put it back. We scheduled to have it done during our vacation week, so they would have plenty of time to get it done. When we returned, I'd never seen such a horrible job. They sealed hair, dirt, and whatever was on the floor because they didn't clean the floors before sealing them. This makes me think stripping the floors didn't happen either. They did not do anything to the lobby bathrooms at all. I asked for the key to be placed on the back counter, and it was lying on the floor next to the back door. I called and sent photos they scheduled to come out and correct the job. Between these two visits, I did receive an invoice for a little over $1100.00, which I did state I would not pay until they completed the job correctly. The Tuesday before they came out for the second service appointment, I called and asked which day they would come by to pick up the key. I was told the manager would get back to me. Instead, the lady returned my call, stating they would not be coming this weekend. The person that was coming is having emergency surgery ( I was told a root canal). I did ask If there was someone else that they could send to complete the job. She told me no. I asked to speak to a manager immediately. You see, I already closed down our clinic schedule to accommodate the moving of equipment. The owner, Duke, did call back. He was a bit condescending and told me he was trying to "work something out if I'd listen." when I was voiced concern about using them again. I should've gone with that gut instinct. Take two was just as bad as the first time, well, a little worse, honestly. The crew stripped the floors and didn't reseal half of them, and the ones they did seal had hair and whatever else was on the floor locked into them again. Imagine having to close early twice and have staff come in early twice to move heavy equipment and find the services half and poorly done. They again did not touch the lobby bathroom tile. I waited until the following day to talk to them about how the floors were left this time. Chris, the manager, returned my call and was very nice. He called me "sweety" several times, which is unprofessional, but I let that go because all I wanted was the FLOORS fixed. He told me to pick any Saturday. He and his crew would move all the equipment. I told him that would not be a good idea because the equipment was costly, and if something were to happen, they would be responsible for it. So I told him we would move it and let him know when I figured out the best weekend and call back. Today I called Chris. I asked when was the best weekend for him to make the trip to fix the floors. He said pretty much any except this coming weekend. Could you do it on New Year's Eve or Day since our clinic would already be closed? He said yes, so I started arranging the provider's schedules so we could move equipment again. While I was at lunch, Chris called back and said he didn't think he could come on that day. So I, of course, asked why. Was it your guys? Do they not want to work that day? He said no, it was him. I said I'm sorry if it is inconvenient for you guys, but I can't be any more accommodating for you to fix the mess made twice. He did agree he would just come on New Year's Eve and pick up the key that week. Now about 10-15 minutes later (that's a guess), He calls back and now wants someone to be there to sign off that they did the job correctly. I said Chris, this was not required the last two times, and I'm not asking someone to come in on their day off. (If you are still with me, you wouldn't be able to tell until the floors were dry). He said, well, they should've had that happen the last two times. I explain this is not a problem for any other company. We wouldn't be in this mess if it were done right the first, let alone the second time. I asked Duke, the owner, to give me a call. Well, guys, Duke didn't call but made Chris call me back. Chris said, "sweety, I have some bad news. The owner doesn't think we will ever make you happy, so we will need to part ways." I promptly said, ok, as long as you both know, I will let everyone know the quality of service you guys give. I did ask if Duke knew we would not pay for incomplete services. Chris responded by saying they do not expect payment. Chris then apologized for not being able to fix the problem. I replied that it is on you and the owner, and I will let everyone know what to expect from Stanley Steemer. The lesson today, kids, is don't call Stanley Steemer. I scheduled a tile cleaning and color seal online for my combined kitchen and dining area a week in advance with an arrival window of 8am-1pm. On the day of the appointment, the technician did not arrive until 1:30pm. When he arrived, he informed me that he did not have the appropriate brushes, nor did he have the color seal to do the job. He took pictures of my floor and suggested rescheduling for tomorrow so that he could do the clean and seal all in one day. I agreed with the understanding that the price would not change (I asked for clarification several times and he said the price would not change). He showed up this morning (an hour and a half later than when he said he would be here) and informed me that the price had to be increased, to nearly TRIPLE what I was quoted online. He used the justification that I technically had two rooms that needed to be cleaned, so I would be charged the cleaning fee and the color seal fee for both (despite it being one open room with one tile pattern). He also tried to further bait me by telling me he was able to get me a discount to bring the bill to just under $500. It is beyond me why he did not inform me of the price change yesterday so I could have declined the services rather than wasting his time and mine for a second day. Beware of the prices you get quoted from this company. They use a classic bait and switch tactic and if I had known that the cost would be nearly $700 (when I was quoted $260) for a standard sized kitchen to be cleaned and sealed, I would have never scheduled anything with them! read more

Terrible service today. These guys were a big disappointing mess. Unlike a previous experience with different SS cleaners, who did a wonderful job successfully cleaning my tile and grout kitchen floor. I paid over $213 for the same service plus additional wood floor cleaning and they failed horribly. I had to call SS management to complain and then proceeded to clean my own floors on hands and knees. These upload photos to show you all-- be appauled. I even asked for additional services of cleaning my wood floors in Dining room. All they did was put water on the floor and vacuum it up. Afterwards, I still saw surface dirt on the floors. I even scraped stains off with my fi get nails to show them. They remained insistent and denied trying to reclean the floor. My mom called Stanley Steamer to have some carpets cleaned in an apartment she owns because the old tenant was moving out and a new tenant was moving in. The carpets were cleaned just six months previously. I go in and out of that house myself to do maintenance and was there about two weeks ago. We are very aware of the condition of the house and the carpeting. The Stanley Steemer representative shows up, and before he even goes in the house he calls and says that in addition to cleaning the carpets he needs to do a deodorizing treatment for an added fee. If we don't agree to the deodorizing treatment he won't do the job. My mom tells him to go inside and take a look before he even makes that decision. Obviously this company puts pressure on their employees to upsell at every turn. The employee probably even gets a commission. The guy goes in and inspects the house and says he definitely needs to do the deodorization. My mom really pushes back hard and says she doesn't want the deodorization. She explains she only wants the carpets cleaned. The guy calls the main office and then calls back and says that if they don't do the deodorization they won't guarantee the job. My mom says fine, she doesn't care about the guarantee, she just wants the carpet cleaned. Then they make their final offer. They say they will clean all the carpets and deodorize the carpeting on the stairs for free, but we will have to pay for deodorization of all the carpeted rooms. Do not know if this is the same Stanley Steemer. Yelp goes as the bird flies. We are in Westchester County across the river so better find out if this is the same outfit! The Hudson is a short distance in a straight line (radius). We used Stanley Steemer many times in the past. These guys were beyond TERRIBLE. They were hired to clean two upholstered chairs and a carpeted stair case (runner). They wet them (chairs and carpet) before applying cleaner (required pre-spotting) left the chairs wet and the wooden stair case was left soaking wet. Stains were not removed at all. Chairs were as dirty as before. Did not wear shoe covers or masks. They walked along the outside path before entering our house wearing the same shoes. We had to clean their mess after they left. Stanley Steemer should remove them from their list altogether. Stay Away! This is not the same Stanly Steemer that we used multiple times before. Perhaps this will be the beginning of them going out of business...TOO Bad. Considering all of the money spent on advertising, this may be their downfall. I have cream colored carpet and had the guys come about 2 months ago to clean the stairwell, hallway, and 2 rooms. They did a good job, but I wasn't totally satisfied with the brightness (there were only a few dark spots), so they were kind and courteous enough to come a second time to go over the carpet once more and after that it looked great. They did not give me a hard time, but were friendly and fairly easy to deal with, understanding my concerns. I didn't expect it to be perfect, just that they try once more so I know we did all we could. They were very professional and cooperative. I would use their services again, for sure. Terrible Service and Experience. Had Stanley Steamer (Clifton, NJ) come out to clean our tile. Tile had been covered in carpet runners since installation. Reason for Stanley Steamer was to help remove double stick tape holding carpet in place. Stanley Steamer left our tile with white chips all over the top of the tile and in some places black chips that were deep in tile. Went back and forth with Stanley Steamer several times. On two occasions, they sent a "manager" and "assistant manager" to inspect. Assistant Manager agreed the tile did look bad. Neither followed up. After a decent amount of following up on our behalf, a tile "expert" (which is highly debatable) was sent from the insurance company to inspect. Eventually, both Stanley Steamer and the Insurance Company denied claim, stating their machines did not cause damage. The tile had been 95% covered with carpet runners since installation up until 2 days prior to them cleaning. Our tile is completely ruined with chips all over the place. They introduced themselves and were very polite. They also explained the process. I had a newly inherited couch and a lazy boy chair cleaned,protected and deodorize. Looks great and very pleased. There was a little upsell for the area rug in that room (basement). I get it I am in sales. But you know what ? It really really needed it. I saw the dirt on the sample patch they did. Additional cost wasn't horrible. Glad I used them and plan on calling their Boss to tell him how awesome they were. Will have no problem recommending them to my Clients. Hello everyone, I needed my home that I was selling carpeting cleaned by professionals so I went with a company that have been in the business for many years. I called around and they were higher than private companies but I went with them anyway. The representative first looked at the job that needed to be done and he stated that the different types of cleaning could not be done do to me waiting too long in between cleanings and the amount of traffic in certain areas. The carpet was too matted and the marks on the carpet had been there too long and even if he did the job it would not turn out as a new refreshed carpet. So the job could not be done. This representative saved me the aggravation and the money that would have been wasted doing this job. He was like a mechanic that would say you do not need a new whatever now but in six months to a year you might want to think about it. Honesty! That is what I want more of in all the different companies out there. Stanley Steemer really holds value in my book and whoever trained this representative did a fine job. They are lucky to have him. In the future, I will definitely call this company on my new house when it needs a good cleaning. If I could give Stanley Steemer NO stars, that would be my choice! I made an appointment for cleaning of HARDWOOD floors. I spoke DIRECTLY with an agent about this appointment. I was made aware that I should remove objects such as photos, breakables, etc. from the rooms prior to the service. That was the extent of the conversation. I received an EMAIL confirming the appointment, which gave info about what to expect during the service. As expected, I emptied the rooms of all but the furniture and waited for the techs to arrive. Stanly Steamer came out to clean my ducting throughout my house, They came with a big Stanley steamer vacuum truck but never used it to suck out the dust. They only used compressed air with a thin attachment that fit through the grates on the vent slits (they don't even remove the vent covers (only removed the return vents) and a small hand held vacuum cleaner to suck up what was blown down the duct. They showed me what they were going to vacuum up but it didn't seem like very much as this was the 1st time in 20 years that the ducts were cleaned and we have always had cats and dogs in the house. I looked up the vent after they left and it looked dusty and dirty to me. Plus I spent an additional $300 on an antibacterial solution that was suppose to give my home a clean fresh smell but when the heat kicked on it didn't smell fresh or any different then it did before. I'm doubting that they even used it. WAY WAY WAY overpriced for what they did, it was a complete rip off!!! Would never recommend Stanly Steamer for duct cleaning. read more

I moved last week and scheduled a carpet cleaning. Stanley steamers had to come out three times and each time their carpet cleaner did not work. I was moving out of state and couldn't reschedule the cleaning. As a result, I did not receive my security deposit back because my carpets could not be cleaned at the scheduled appointment. After taking a day off work, my window was 12-6pm I was told. Customer service called me and said they were running late, and would reschedule or come between 6-7pm. I could not take another day off so I said okay. They arrived at 6:50pm and said they could not clean my rugs and tile because my hose connection outside was not working. SS had cleaned my rugs 4-5 times and never had this problem. They filled containers in my tub and brought the water out to their truck. These two service people were unwilling to do that. Having very mixed feelings about this service, I booked online and was given 12-3pm but the didn't show till 4 and as soon as the guys came in it was high pressure up sale time. I was thinking about getting the area rugs done so I let myself get talked into it but they charged me double for the basement and it is not a big area. They tried to get me to get my grouts done for my bathroom. Had to be firm to get him to back down about extra services. The guys were very nice and works hard but the carpets don't look that much different than other cleaning services. I thought big company would do a better job. Next time I will go with the little guys. Not worth the big $$$$ read more

I give this location zero stars. I had an appointment scheduled for Saturday May 8th for wood floor and carpet cleaning. They gave me a five hour widow from 8 -1. called the office three times and the second time I called was told they had no portable units to do the cleaning and they were going to be an additional 45 minutes late. After waiting till 2 pm I called and finally cancelled the appointment. I have a disability and had to hire some one and pay them to help me move things around so my carpet could be cleaned. They rushed cleaning our floors. Wanted us to pay them extra to do the closet and extra areas but would only accept it in cash. Those areas were suppose to be included in our quote. Did not feel safe with him. He kept asking me when my caregiver was leaving. Only spent 50 minutes cleaning the entire house. the whole house is carpet. Did not feel it was worth $500. read more
