THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! I've been to many coffee shops (not a Starbucks guy) and this is by far the best overall. I would come here on nights that I needed to read, study for tests, or just wanted to give away. All their specialties coffees are amazing, I couldn't even tell you my favorite because they are all so good. The customer service is great, and always fast with your order. Their prices are reasonable, and worth the money. This place will always be a memory that I cherish during my time in college, and anytime I come through lufkin I will always stop by. This is a very authentic little coffee shop in downtown Lufkin. Instead of cheap Folgers and a get in - get out mentality, you get a warm, welcoming space and some fantastic coffee. This place seems to relish being a part of the community, and is very open to being a hang out. They serve coffee to go in whole bean or ground form, so you can make it at home if you must. The grump short-haired woman taking the money was in such a hurry, even though we were the only people at the counter. After being chastised because I didn't immediately know which 'to go' cup size a macchiato 'for here' should be in (isn't there only one size it could come in?) I instead opted for a standardcappuccino. Unfortunately what I got was burnt and undrinkable. I guess tattoos, a nose ring, and a sense of entitlement doesn't automatically translate to making passable espresso drinks. My partners regular coffee was decent so they get a star for that. Blueberry muffin was average and clearly came off a Sysco truck. You've had this blueberry muffin before at truck stops and gas stations all across America It's surprising that this may be the best coffee shop in Lufkin. It was quiet and a great workspace - I'll definitely be back to try this place out for longer than an hour. Their chia latte (which I judge everyone by) was just "okay" and kind of weak. The day I was there, the computer was lagging where you tip and sign. Somehow by $4 chai turned into almost $7. I'm guessing the tip was hit at some point when the computer was lagging. Next time I'll bring cash unless that can tell me the computer won't lag and charge me so much for a latte. The staff was really friendly and smiling. He acknowledged everyone that came and left. The bathrooms are single use and very clean. I was impressed. You can tell a lot about a place about the cleanliness of a bathroom. They have outdoor covered seating. Fantastic coffee and love the atmosphere of the building. I've been coming to the coffee shop since about 2013. Now there is new staff but the coffee is still amazing. I'm only giving this review a 3 star because a staff member was not friendly. She had long red hair. No greeting at the door or even when it was my time to order. No smile. Just stared at me. Even after I smiled and greeted her. I used to be a co manager of a store. So customer service is the upmost important me. Once I received my coffee, I asked if it was a medium. Just because I'm so used to mediums being bigger elsewhere. The employee looked at me in a negative sense and gave me a short "yes". I kindly thanked her and walked out. I'm to my car and realized I left my keys inside. As I walk back in she throws her arm in the air to show me she has them but still has that negative look on her face. Once again I thanked her. She just gave me keys and turned around with out saying again. I mean it's great coffee but it would be even better if the vibe was more welcoming. read more

Loved the unique building and employees are super friendly, welcoming and very nice! Beautiful porch to enjoy the view on. LOVED the BUILDING, but I came for the coffee. I did feel that the coffee seemed to be watered down on the first try. Not being a fan of *$ I went back to try again and this time paid attention to how the iced coffee was made. When they make the ice coffee the syrup is put in the cup along with a little milk (ugh). I appreciate the hot espresso poured into the syrup and find when you pour cold milk into syrup it is inconsistent and does not mix well. Back to the milk and watery coffee (sigh). After the syrup, milk, stir, espresso a little more milk is added. When I say a "little" milk I mean a 1/2 inch (maybe, if) up the cup. Little being important as it is not enough milk to fill half the cup, possibly / maybe a third of the way (if) up the cup is filled with milk. The rest of the cup is filled with ice giving a watery cup of coffee taste (sigh). Not a fan of *$ and when I always find a local coffee shop to visit. Great coffee shop! I was passing through Lufkin on a Sunday afternoon and I decided to stop by this coffee shop. I heard about it on Facebook, so I decided that it could be worth a stop. The building was renovated to put in the coffee shop, and they found/kept an original wall with a large Coca-Cola pharmacy advertisement as on of the inside walls. They have classic Coke fridges with glass-bottle Coke/Sprite/Dr. Pepper, and many original spins on classic coffee drinks. The prices are about what your local Starbucks will run and the service was great. One of the employees was playing guitar when we walked in, and told us that they have live music several times each month, and also host indie movie nights and theme nights. I had the "Standpipe", a classic mocha/hazelnut/something magical to drink. These barista's know exactly what they are doing, and experimented with flavors until they found exactly what they were looking for. If you buy a t-shirt (they are pretty sweet), you get a free small drink! If only we remembered this before we finished our drinks and grabbed a shirt on the way out (and ANOTHER tea for the road)!! While Lufkin is not somewhere that I regularly frequent, I will definitely be returning to the Standpipe next time I'm in town. read more

The boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night for live music. The Sugar Moons, a western/swing group, were advertised to perform. I've never heard of them before, but I'm always searching for new music/genres, so this sounded fun! This was my first time in downtown Lufkin, so I was surprised to see how barren the streets and sidewalks were. I was glad to have the boyfriend with me, otherwise I would have just stayed in my car and drove home. It was a different story the moment we walked into Standpipe. It was well-lit and filled with friendly greetings from the staff. It definitely had a hipster vibe with the exposed pipe ceilings and wall murals. After a few minutes, I finally decided to get THE STANDPIPE (super original, I know =]), an espresso with chocolate, caramel, and hazelnut. The boyfriend got a blackberry Italian soda WITHOUT cream. Our drinks came out pretty quickly, and we found a small table to sit at behind the chairs they had set up assembly-style for people to watch the Sugar Moons. The atmosphere during the performance was very low-key, and people came and went as they pleased. Both of our drinks were VERY sweet, which is to be expected with the soda, but I could hardly taste the espresso. I like to taste my coffee. Next time I will ask for them to make it less sweet. read more

Part of the pleasure in visiting Standpipe is that it's become a local treasure. In recent years, downtown Lufkin has gone from a forgotten clutter of buildings to lively bunch of restored history. The story behind Standpipe is that they were gutting some of the buildings for renovations when they discovered this large, beautiful Coca Cola mural. And now you can see that very mural along the walls of Standpipe. Rich in history, cozy (if not a bit hipster) atmosphere, free wifi, fast service... This place has become one of my favorite places in Lufkin! As for the coffee... Well I'm no expert, but I've tried most of the drinks and haven't had a bad experience yet. I'm a hazelnut fan though, so usually I order The Standpipe. It is a bit sweet (for those who prefer less sugar), but I wouldn't say it's overly sweet (I'm looking at you double chocolate chip Starbucks drink). In my experience though, the standpipe tastes best when ordered as a large. The barista told me this once and I thought it was a sales tactic, but it turned out to be true. I'm kind of between "A-OK" and "Fan." Cool location, cool art, cool music, cool staff. This place has been awesome, 99% of the time, but the last time I was there I was with a friend who had a child, and we were treated differently. She was from out of town, so she would not have noticed the frowns and glances as a difference, but I sure did. I haven't been back. For grown ups and people who want to feel cool in a small town, it's great. For people with children, maybe think of going somewhere more kid-friendly. I'll probably go back because I love the free WiFi and the atmosphere in an older part of town, but I'm not yet over the way they interacted with my friend and me the last time we were there. read more

My husband and I are completely satisfied with our visit to this quaint downtown Lufkin coffee shop. Besides great coffee, it provides blazing WIFI. We also enjoyed the classic country and R&B recorded music. We are difficult to please coffee drinkers (persnickety even), but we immediately ordered a specially ground decaf/full caffeine mixture for home consumption. After explaining to them that it was equal parts steamed milk and espresso they promptly made me a latte. The gentleman was understanding and courteous when I asked him to try again. So then they gave me something that looked correct. I took a sip and burned the shit out of my tongue. Won't be tasting anything else for the rest of the day. Thanks! After taking the lid off and letting it cool for 5 to 10 minutes, it was still way too hot to drink. Seriously, steaming milk is not the same thing as murdering it with heat. Standpipe is rad. Iced Americano is perfect...dark and rich, and it mellows as the ice melts into it and your coffee thirst begins to subside. I also snuck some sips of a friend's blackberry Italian cream soda, and it was TOTALLY AWESOME. I've never had anything like that before, and it kind of blew my brains as to what a soda could be. Get one if you visit standpipe. I got some mudslide whole beans to take home, and even among all the fancy coffees I buy from my favorite Houston, uuh, beanery? it stood out - no creams needed to bring the flavor to life. The people are super nice (and the people this place brings out are awesome, also!), the building is fantastic, and they have live music a lot, including punk rock shows. In Lufkin. Punk rock shows in Lufkin! I'm looking forward to the next time I pass through nearby so I can stop by for an Italian cream soda. Plus there was an (almost) nonstop loop of the Cantina Song when I first walked in. read more
