Set design, costumes, choreography, singing, music, acting were all top notch. Some of the things you should know before you go. 1) Parking can be a challenge because they don't have their own garage. There are several garages nearby (about a block walking distance), but you will want to arrive really early to make sure you have time to find a space, make your way to the theater, and find your seat before the show starts. We were coming from Richardson, so we knew we would need over an hour to travel there, but because of the parking situation, we left even earlier at 11:30 am for a 1:30pm show time start. 2) The building is quite modern. They have several entrances, but you may be asked to wait on the street in the elements before they open the doors and start scanning tickets. Be prepared to stand in the elements. 3) The seats are quite narrow and the arm rest is shared with your seat mate. If you are an average sized American, you might find the average seats quite uncomfortable. The person next to me was blubbering through her seat into mine. She was also very enthusiastic tapping along with the beat. Both things were unpleasant for me. There are box seats that have independent chairs. If I return to this venue, I will pay for one of these to avoid feeling like a sardine. They have an amazing line up of shows. I wish they were closer because I would definitely be a season ticket holder so that I could enjoy every single one of their amazing shows.

An Unforgettable Night of Theatre…read more I recently saw Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical at the historic Uptown Theater in Grand Prairie, Texas, and it was an incredible experience. Many years ago, while serving as a soldier in Hawaii, I had the opportunity to see a professional production of Les Misérables in Honolulu. That experience stayed with me for decades and became my personal standard for what musical theatre could make an audience feel. I never expected a production in an intimate theatre in Grand Prairie to bring me back to that feeling, but it did. Somehow, this production made a smaller theatre feel like a full-scale Broadway experience. Director Michael Brown and the entire company created something special. The production flowed beautifully. The actors didn't simply enter, deliver their lines and leave. The production seemed to breathe. The music, lighting, costumes, movement, staging and performances all worked together to bring this dark Victorian world to life. Brendan Reimer, portraying both Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde, was fascinating to watch. I have loved the story of Jekyll and Hyde since childhood, so watching one actor bring both sides of this character to life right in front of me was something I will remember for a long time. After the show, I had the opportunity to meet Brendan. After watching him portray so much darkness and conflict onstage, I found him to be kind, sincere and gracious. That conversation was a wonderful ending to an already remarkable evening. And I have to mention Poole! After a lifetime of being fascinated with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, somehow Poole became my favorite character of the night. I definitely didn't see that coming! To Michael, Brendan, the entire cast, musicians, lighting and sound teams, designers, technicians, volunteers and everyone working behind the scenes, thank you for reminding me why I love theatre. From Les Misérables in Honolulu to Jekyll & Hyde in Grand Prairie, some performances simply stay with you. Five stars from me. What an unforgettable night. SPECIAL THANKS & TRIBUTE As a special thank-you to Director Michael Brown, Brendan Reimer, and the entire cast and crew, I created a special Dr. Steve Jinky YouTube Short as my personal tribute to all of you. Consider it my small gift of appreciation for the much bigger gift you gave your audience that evening. Watch my special Dr. Steve Jinky tribute on YouTube. Copy and paste this link into your browser: https://youtu.be/CY6xtk-tqDc Thank you for the inspiration, the memories, and for reminding this lifelong Jekyll and Hyde fan why a great story never really ends. Prior to doors opening, you can have a alcoholic beverage or burger at the Backyard, which is a small bar under string-up lights. They have live music playing. The artist we saw playing, Don Burke, was very talented. I've got to admit I was very confused as to what was happening for many of the scenes but was able to get the general gist at the end. Let's just say- if you don't already know the Peter Pan story, I imagine you would be hopelessly lost. The live music was wonderful, fitting, soothing, and carried great for being in an outdoor theater. The acting was very sincere.
