The food is not bad, but man, the service is horrible here!!! Not sure what happened. Service used to be excellent here. Now, they treat their customers like crap. Our waitress was completely inattentive. Our food arrived...waffles but no syrup. Reminded her that we needed syrup. Also had to remind her that we were still waiting for our drinks. Drinks are supposed to arrive before the food! A few minutes later, she brings syrup. Waffles were a bit cold by now. Whatever. Still no drinks and she is nowhere in sight. 10 minutes into our meal, our drinks finally arrive. We ask her for cream cheese for the bagel. She said, "I will have to charge you." That's fine. We'll pay. What's a bagel without cream cheese, right? But a tiny scoop of cream cheese took forever too! My wife was done with everything on her plate, except the bagel, when the waitress finally brought the cream cheese. Very disappointing meal throughout. To top it all off, the cashier was rude as hell too. Without making any eye contact, or saying a word, he snatched my credit card out of my hand. I stared him down, but he didn't even notice because he didn't even look at me. Then, he slams a pen down on the counter for me to sign the bill and says, "thanks, man," still without any eye contact. Thanks, man? Thanks, man? Wth type of place are they running here? Mediocre breakfast and mediocre service. It's your typical breakfast place which did not wow us in anyway from the moment we got here. The only thing I can say that was good was that there was free coffee outside while you wait. It took a while to get seated, which is fine since it was a weekend. However, once we were seated, it took forever for anybody to take our order. Once we received it, before we could ask for other condiments such as cream cheese for our bagels, the server left. We tried to flag down our server and other servers for cream cheese, and by the end of it, they ended up giving more cream cheese than we needed (considering that they dropped it on the table and left and didn't give us time to interject that we already received it). The best part of it was that they charge us for all of three cream cheeses we received, when in reality, we only needed one. Now it's really not a big deal in price (50 cents each), but it's the principle. I understand it's busy on a weekend, but take the extra 10 seconds to see how your customers are doing. Food was nothing to marvel about, which would be okay if service made up for it. Overall, save your time and money. We stopped in during lunch and decided to check the place out. We were seated right away. We only had an hour so we didn't have a lot of time. The waiter didn't really check in periodically and had to often wave him down. I ordered a sweet tea and of course it came back as unsweetened, which I don't have a problem with. Just let me know that it will be unsweetened so I can order something else. Tea is definitely hard to sweetened once it's cold. I order the king-crab panini. It was good, but I was expecting a lot more flavor with this being King crab. It was rather bland and I had to end up adding some salt and pepper to the panini. I've been to stacks multiple times over the years, it's been a staple of Burlingame. With so many new breakfast/brunch/lunch places opening on Burlingame Ave, it's become apparent that stacks is losing its appeal. I visited this location on a Saturday morning around 11am, and I was surprised the wait was not very long. We did wait about 5 mins for them to clear a booth inside. Once seated, the service was great. Our server came by and dropped off a pitcher of water and a thermos of coffee (the thermos was apparently broken so coffee came out at a moderate pace). We ordered a skillet and a crepe. The egg dishes come with a bagel, but that can be switched out for toast if you ask. The food was sub-par. It was edible but felt a little bland. The food also needed some seasoning, but I guess ketchup and hot sauce did the trick. Overall, the restaurant was clean, service was fast and attentive, but the food was lacking. read more

I am not a fan of this Burlingame breakfast favorite... which makes me sad because there are reasons why I want to like this place. It is very conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Burlingame. It is large and able to accommodate a crowd, which is a bonus especially around busy brunch hours. And lastly it has outside seating, and on a warm sunny day like today, it is nice to sit outside for a meal. It was because of all these reasons we came here today. There was a little gathering of people waiting outside, but after speaking with the hostess, I was told it would be about 10 - 15 minutes for our party of 2 to be seated; and we were called in about 5-10 minutes! After a short wait, we were approached by our waitress for drinks. She was friendly, and took our drink as well as our food order. But this is where things started going sideways.... it took A LONG TIME to get our food... like an hour, and then only one of our plates came out. We flagged down our waitress so she could notice we were missing a couple things and she went to find my food. It was probably about another 10 to 15 minutes, and after eating all my friends fries as well as some of his salad, before my plate came out. I ordered the lox and bagel plate. My toasted bagel was cold, the lox looked a little fishy (lol) and the onion slices kinda had white spots and looked like they had been cut awhile ago. But the worst part was the white moldy spots on one of the three tomato slices. I showed the waitress and she took my plate back to fix it up. When the plate came back, the only thing different was the tomato slice with the white spots was gone. I thought about eating this food, but the more I looked at it, the more I thought that it was not acceptable. I would not serve this to a guest at my own house and I really didn't want to pay for it at a restaurant. Besides this is Downtown Burlingame and there are many delicious restaurant choices. The waitress removed it from our bill and we walked around the corner in search of another place for Sunday Brunch. I have eaten here a few times and am not impressed with the food. Our server Anna seemed very nice until I told her that I didn't know cream cheese was extra charge and I didn't even touch it, so it would be good to know. She responded that when she asked if we want to add cream cheese, that means additional charge. She also asked if we want any pancakes or waffles after she took our order. We answered a side of French toast. Then she responded an order of French toast. Guess what, we got a full order of French toast. Bottom line, she should have at least informed us that they don't have side of French toast. Very unpleasant experience. She was not nice at all after I told her it would be good know about the extra charge. For sure she built at least $15 more on the check from us. But it isn't good of doing for the business. I really didn't want to tip her well but I still kindly standardized it 20% minus the charge for the side of cream cheese. After we left, I still felt awful about the experience. She should have at least apologized it even if she didn't remove the charge REALLY.... An hour later, I had diarrhea. I was pleasantly surprised by Stacks. While it looks like a glorified IHOP, and the menu certainly reads that way, I actually had a pleasant and tasty meal here. I got the portobello chicken crepe and it was good - stuffed with mushrooms, grilled chicken (slightly dry), mozzarella, and topped with pesto. Filling but not overly so, and the ingredients tasted pretty fresh. I got a side salad and fruit, which was varying levels of ripe. For two around noon on a Sunday, we waited about 20 minutes. This is a popular place - even on a recent weekday it was full at early lunchtime. The omelettes and the fritattas were pretty good - but the pancakes were the star of the show. They were big and fluffy and had great flavor - our group tried both the regular and the blueberry pancakes - both were excellent. All the breakfasts were served with a plain bagel and not one person ate their bagel, so that felt a bit like a waste. And they had breakfast potatoes, but did not offer traditional hash browns. I came here around 10:30am after bringing my car to Putnam Chevrolet for an oil change, and was seated quickly. I ordered and all meat omelet and hot chocolate which had the tiniest amount of whip cream on top. As we walked in the front door we were greeted with lots of greenery, lights and Christmas decorations. We will need to come back and see what is here all year. Our server assured us they regularly change the decorations. Today we went mushrooms style starting with the weekend Eggs Blackstone special consisting of poached eggs, mushrooms and bacon. We swapped the English Muffin for sliced tomatoes to remind us of a favorite breakfast place in Los Angeles. The flavor combination worked nicely together and is worth trying. Our second mushroom dish was sautéed mushrooms and garlic with melted cheddar-jack cheese. This was good but a little too much liquid and not crispy enough for our liking. The restaurant adds a nice touch by supplying coffee for waiting customers. One of the yelp reviews stated this was his favorite breakfast place outside San Francisco and we can see why. read more

There is a difference between a restaurant being crowded and densely populated. Stacks was both, but the population density somewhat detracted from our otherwise enjoyable meal. There are so many tables crammed into the room, that the space between said tables is dangerously low. Getting up to walk through a tiny aisle is a problem. I felt terrible for a young mommy that was having a real tough time manipulating her stroller from the middle of the room to the front door. The aisles were that narrow. Anyway, our lunch was great- a really nice fruit crepe with bagel and hash browns for $11.29. I had an eggplant panini ($9.29) that came with a small salad- it was terrific. The food is 4 stars or more, the service was fine, the decoration is way over the top if you like a floral motif. The menu goes on and on -very ambitious. So I was informed that today is National Comfort Food Day per my fellow Yelp Elite friend so I decided to go to Stacks for some comfort brunch food. Everytime I'm here, it's usually hit or miss. I can't say there's one solid thing I get here that's always good cause most of it tastes pretty average...until today. I decided to try the Crab Frittata and Banana Coconut Macadamia Nut pancakes. The pancakes were super dry, such a sad day for pancake lovers because I was expecting so much more from these. The Crab Frittata however was actually really good!! They use real Dungeness crab and the avocado and tomatoes on top pair so nicely together. Overall, I won't order the pancakes again but I'd definitely order the Frittata again. Service was good and the wait wasn't too bad at 1:00pm. Reason for 3 stars, the Frittata is probably the only thing id get again. Stacks will always be a favorite breakfast spot of mine. There is street metered parking all around, but do get there early! Not only will you avoid the long waits (that you could experience depending on time) but also there are some free parking spaces, so you wouldn't have to pay for meter! My boyfriend and I came here, and I told myself I wanted to try something different since I normally always get the same thing every time. (Chocolate Divine Waffles with a side of potatoes. TRUST ME. So good!) Since the pandemic, we actually didn't feel comfortable eating anywhere that offered outdoor seating, but it was our Anniversary, so we chose to have breakfast here. The Staff all wore masks and gloves. We actually noticed either the food runner or the other waiter had hand sanitizer on him. As soon as we saw the table near us get their food, they were asked if they liked some sanitizer. Unfortunately, we were not offered hand sanitizer from our waitress. Our waitress was super nice, friendly, and informative. So there was nothing wrong with her, but we just thought it was cool that the other waiter offered the other table hand sanitizer before they received their food. We strongly believe they either should do that for every table, or not do that at all. It's just a better look to be consistent when it comes to things like that, especially during this time. Finally, the food we ordered! Let me start with this. Our waitress convinced us to try the Wheat Germ Pancake. So we ordered the Banana Wheat Germ Pancakes. You guys.. You would think gross or hard pass? BUT NO! The texture and the flavor was pretty dam good! I poured that syrup and went right in. It has a nice crunchy crisp on top, and the flavor/texture combination together were just perfect! It tasted like a healthier pancake that shouldn't taste as good as it actually does! So you feel really good about eating it, but shocked because of how good it is! (If that makes sense?) I do recommend trying the Wheat Germ Pancakes if you were feeling you wanted a healthier pancake that's still just as good as a regular pancake, if not better! We also ordered the Eggs Louis. I saw crab, hollandaise on english muffin and instantly got so excited. It also comes with spinach, which i'm sure would taste really good together, but I ordered without it. I LOVE crab! The presentation of the whole plate was nice. However, the crab was a little more on the fishier taste side than I like. The combination of everything together was good, especially when you get the crunch and that butter from the english muffin. It was just the crab by itself, I was just a tad disappointed. I'm sure others would still think it's amazing, it just didn't end up being what I imagined. But overall, I'm happy I tried both items, and tried something different! Father's Day. Busy and understaffed, so my family is understanding with the long wait to be seated, the long wait to be greeted, the long wait for our drinks, the 30 min wait for our meals and the additional 10 minutes it took for them to bring my daughters breakfast out. My $27 eggs Louis was cold and mushy. They did not cook the English muffin. All of our potatoes were cold and mushy, even though we asked for crispy. When I told the stressed out server about my breakfast, he took it away without a word. No apology, didn't ask me if I would like another eggs Louis or something else. When he dropped off the check, he said bitterly, "I charge you half". I took two small bites and I'm charged half for my cold mushy breakfast?! Dirty bathrooms, dirty restaurant, rude staff and inedible food for $130. This was our go to place for years, but this is the second time we've had a bad experience with no one trying to make it right. We're done with this location. read more

Stacks is one of my favorite breakfast places in town, I usually go the Burlingame Location. It can be very busy on Saturday and Sunday morning so prepare to wait a bit if you do then. They provide free coffee and water when you are waiting which definitely keeps me patient. The seating is decent, some of the booths are on the small side but in general is a good size place. The breakfast is delightful , many choices from specialty omelets , French toast, skillet dishes, and my all time favorite banana macadamia nut Pancakes.
