The menu is limited and for good reason as the focus here is placed entirely on the food...as it should be. The tacos are basically large street tacos and they explode with flavors and some heat. The tortillas? Freshly made with a splendid corn earthiness. I had the tinga chicken tacos and my spouse had the birria tacos and both were excellent. In Winnetka all the pleasant surroundings might prop up the food a bit so it's very refreshing to put all that aside and experience a level of Mexican food culture that is rarely enjoyed this far North of the border.

I'm glad more restaurants are opening up as this spot has gone been through two other restaurants. I'm rooting for you! Overall, I thought it was just ok, but I need to order more things. Mexican rice - good Pastor taco - just ok. Potato flautas - it was soggy by the time I got home (I highly recommend you ask for the sauce on the side so your food can stay crispy). Overall, just ok. Being from California, we get a lot of great Mexican restaurants. In San Diego, they have rolled tacos that are delicious. This place does not have a wide selection on the menu compared to La Taquiza or Guanjuanto but I want to come back and try some other things. The elote salad looks good.

My personal favorite is the crispy camarones (shrimp), the combination of all the ingredients create this happy harmonious taco. Truly my favorite taco ever. I also like the chicken taco salad. Oh, you need more? Okay... The tacos are worth your time if you're close by. You walk in and there is a menu on the wall and you order at the counter. They're fresh and satisfying with a side of salsa that's the perfect partner to give you that flavor boost you might be missing. And let's not forget the real Coca-Cola in glass bottles--nothing like it to feel like you're living your best taco life. That said, expect to pay a pretty penny for your tacos. The portions aren't as generous as they could be, and the flavor didn't exactly pop but for now living off their laurels and minimal competition makes Taco Nano the tops for this neighborhood. As for the dining area? It's basic--no bells or whistles. You'll see no-frills booths and a few tables. It's not much, but hey, it's all about the tacos here, right?

I started with the guacamole, which I got spicy, and the shrimp soup. The guacamole had good balance and texture, but I didn't get a lot of spice from the flavor that I requested. The shrimp soup had a nice, spicy broth with well cooked shrimp. However, I would have liked the shrimp to be more abundant and chopped up. Also would've liked to see some more substance in the soup such as avocado or maybe some corn. The entrees is where it really stood out. The steak burrito was flavorful and the steak was tender and the ratio of steak, cheese, beans, and other fixings were perfectly executed. The enchiladas were delicious as well with the mole sauce having an exceptional flavor and spice. Beans and rice that came with the enchiladas and burritos were both good and cooked well. The tres leches cake was outstanding! The balance of sweetness and the tart berries layered in the cake gave great texture as most tres leches cakes can sometimes be one dimensional. The cake is a MUST if you come here. Delicious Mexican food here, a nice change for me to try, and I will be back.

Our waiter could not have been less attentive or more unbothered about anything. The salsas they brought out were completely tasteless with their stale chips. I ordered the crab ceviche, whatever you do, do not order this. It is completely without taste or texture or anything. When I asked him what the skinny ceviche was, he said shrimp and that's it. He didn't give me any other description. The queso fundito was half melted, so not that good. Plus, it came out before our drinks even got to the table. I had to wave at our waiter to ask for another round, he could see I wasn't eating my ceviche and said not a word. I can't believe this place even has three stars. I can't believe people in Winnetka even eat here. It was so bad. i'm getting two stars because my husband had enchiladas con mole, which it wasn't even on the menu, and it was pretty good. The beans and rice, on the other hand, horrible.

We are a family of 5 and my boys eat enough for a family of 17, but it was the perfect amount of food. We even had some leftovers for my husband to eat for lunch the next day. The rest of my family was just as big of a fan as my daughter. My youngest is pretty picky and he told me ahead of time that he does NOT like fajitas, but helped himself to many servings....and told me he really liked this meal. High white ceilings, pale wood, and the indoor tree give the café an unusually polished presence, while excellent coffee keeps it grounded in daily life. Every visit I've made has found it buzzing, with the easy social energy of a true neighborhood gathering place. In some ways, it feels like the next-generation version of what Foodstuffs in Glencoe represented years ago: cosmopolitan taste translated convincingly to the North Shore. Its character becomes even more apparent in the way the space shifts naturally from café to event venue to community gathering place. Spin classes are a particularly clever touch, and the Home Alone decorations during the holidays are a wonderfully self-aware nod to Winnetka's place in popular culture. Something is appealing about a place this refined having enough confidence to be playful, especially when the humor is so specific to the town around it. If I lived nearby, this would be an easy regular meeting spot: elegant, useful, and unmistakably of its place.
