We're big fans of the fried pickles that they put on top of most of the burgers. Parking isn't too hard to find if you go down the street a little. The shakes were good minus the abhorrent customer service. After waiting 30min past reservation the 'hostess' became verbally belligerent that we had made her job difficult. Asking when will a table be ready 20 minutes after the time is not difficult. Anyway, after being berated by the hostess the wait seemed worthless. I've driven by several times and found the outside of the building appealing, but tonight the service was bad and the food was greasy and over priced. We arrived about 5:30pm and expected that we would get right in for a burger before the Bucks game. The hostess told us right away that there was at least a 15 minute wait, so we dediced to sit at the bar. After waiting 15 minutes at the bar, we still did not have a single person come to us and even say hi. We did notice about 6 servers standing around chatting at the end of the bar, and wonderded what the deal was. 20 minutes in a new bartender came over and asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered spotted cow drafts and menus, and we were finally served. After just a moment after looking at the menu I ordered the Portobello fries. When they came, they were bland, greasy, and overcooked. We ate them, but talked about how we wouldn't order them ever again. Shortly after that our dinner order was taken. We waited and waited. Finally the food came out. While sitting at the bar, we had to beg the bartender to put on the Brewers/Cubs game. Evidently, another customer wanted to watch the Michigan/Minnesota hockey game. Sheesh...what is takeing so long? This was a burger and fries for heaven's sake. Why did it take nearly 40 minutes? Starving, we chowed down. The food was just okay. Our bill was $50 bucks. I stopped in after a great afternoon at the Milwaukee Chili Bowl and I was hoping to find a turkey burger that I could bring home for dinner. I bumped into a few people that were actually at the same event. We ended up have a few beers (great selection), a couple shots, and an array of tasty appetizers. The friend pickles and the hummus were outstanding. The service was above average and the turkey burgers were dynamite. I will be back for sure! read more

I have seen a few bad reviews that kind of boggle my mind. A big complaint is waiting at the host stand. Whenever I go there I seem to notice that big red sign that says to seat yourself. I guess I am a reader. Another is wait time. Really? Do you expect them to kick people out as soon as they finish eating? They have no control over turn over people. To me this says the food is good and worth the wait. I have never had a server be unprofessional, maybe a bit casual, but the product is taken seriously. And that is what I want and expect from this type of place. I will go eat somewhere else if I want stuffy waiters and linen. It is what it is, and they do it well. Here's a review of not going to Stackd. Called to make reservations for 6 people at 6 o'clock. The girl who answered the call couldn't have been more unhelpful. Look, it's busy with March Madness, I get it. She was all flustered, said we are really busy and she couldn't take any reservations the rest of the night. This was at 4:30 in the afternoon. After getting the amount of people and for what time wrong several times over I just said I'll find some other place. That said, Good City Brewing makes an awesome burger and had outstanding beer. What an upgrade! The former Social is now Stack'd Burger Bar, and it's awesome! Nice renovation inside...gone are those odd acoustic panels of Social days...very open concept now...great long couch-like benches are a comfy addition...and a freakin' pool table right in the middle of the dining room, how cool is that? (Though I gotta believe getting a stick in the ear while dining is a bit annoying...so watch out!) The back room...not sure what they're trying to set this up as...but very nice...very loungey...hoping to see this room utilized in future visits...maybe you can book a private party back there??? As for the menu it's rather kick ass for a place that came out of nowhere...well, not exactly...this place has something to do with the bar at Iron Horse (at which I've panned the food...and service)...this is the complete opposite! First, there's a pretty massive list of beers and wines and there's a few specialty cocktails and there's also GREAT spiked shakes they make here too! Try the Cream City Vanilla (with a cognac vanilla liqueur) or the Golden Caddy (spiked with Galliano and Creme de Cacao)!! For starters everything looks to be a HIT! The loaded potatoes are a HOME RUN when it comes to "potato boat" kinda offerings...you're used to the same old dry, stale, almost plasticky sorta thing when you order this, am I right? Well the "Loaded Potatoes" here will have you swearing off all other comers. Also delicious are the Fried Pickles with a great blue cheese dipping sauce and the Buttermilk Onion Rings! They advertise the onion rings to be a foot high on the stake...so bring your rulers! Salads looked good. On the menu. Hey, I came here for burgers people, not a salad, so sue me if I didn't order one. I'd have to say the best sounding salad is the Seven Layer Stack--WITH the bacon! As for the main attraction--the burgers--damn, the pretzel rolls they put the burgers on are HEAVEN! Finally, FINALLY! A bun that goes with a nice juicy burger! No wimpy my-grandma-made-'em rolls or some crusty old hard roll--no, these are PERFECTION! Tell me I'm wrong!? The German stack...a beer brat patty here with onions and kraut...about an 8 out of 10. Don't Mess With Texas (cuz GW sezs so!)...bison with BBQ sauce, Mozz cheese and topped with one of them aforementioned buttermilk onion rings...DING DING a 10! Fahgettaboudit...eh, I don't know...I just might next time...about a 7, nothing over the top here...their take on a meatball sandwich maybe. The Pulled Pork Stack...DELICIOUS pulled pork sandwich (not really a burger) with pineapple...a 9! The Hangover Stack...A MESS...a 10! This is the best burger on the menu--if you dare! Rather messy...loaded with fried onions, bacon, cheddar cheese and a FRIED FREAKIN' EGG! Oh, and a mini bottle of Tabasco sauce! You can also Build Your Own if none of those sound good. My only wish is that their fries were a bit better...they remind me too much of Fuddruckers and at that they aren't as good as Fudd's. Eh, small complaint there I guess. The mac n cheese they offer as a side is pretty good! Service, despite it being their second day, was good. We had no less than four people wait on us (we were at the bar), which is a good sign for a new place! This place is going to live up to it's name I bet. Decided to try out stack'd again since it had been awhile since we've visited. The gluten free menu was enticing as I have a stepfather with celiac disease. The hostess was amazing a very friendly. Unfortunately, our waitress was new and despite being friendly messed up on quite a few things. I understand being new but there were some bad outcomes because of it. The food was pretty good but my order came wrong. The waitress apologized but never offered to send it back. My glass came out with lipstick stains on it too but I never said anything about that. My stepfather explained his severe allergy to gluten and was told she thought there was a separate fryer. The waitress was going to check for sure and he would have fruit if there wasn't a separate one. His order came with fries with no check. He ended up getting severely sick the next day- in his words "gluten bombed" from cross contamination. He only ate at home the next day so it had to be from this meal. He also never received his side dipping sauce which we were charged for and my mother who was asked if she wanted to sample a beer was given an entire glass and charged. The real problem was I tried to use a visa gift card which my server said didn't work. I paid on another card yet my gift card balance is now $0. It took three calls to 2 separate managers over a 4 day period to be told the transaction was cancelled and my money should go back on the gift card- I still have yet to see if this holds true. The first manager mentioned giving me a gift card to the restaurant for my troubles but the 2nd manager just said sorry and never took my info. They have grassfed beef burgers here....piled high with fresh toppings on a pretzel roll (or classic roll or whole wheat or whatever bread you want) which is toothpicked together with a couple of fried pickles on top. YUMMY. They have standard sides like fresh fruit (the grapes were SO SWEET), fries, onion rings, mac n cheese (it was a little bland) and coleslaw. They also serve turkey burgers, bison burgers, chicken, steak sandwiches, brunch fare and shakes. And for the vegans in your life - they also have black bean burgers, portabello sandwiches, humus platters and other vegan gluten free friendly fare. Eveything is local (cheese, veggies, meat, beer, etc) and ultra tasty. The burgers start around $10 and tops out around $15. The service is friendly!! we went mid-day before the Brewers creamed the Diamondbacks yesterday and it was loud... we were one of maybe 8 people and they really could have turned the music down. On to the food: Hubs ordered the black bean patty on the g/f bun which he really liked a lot. I tasted the patty and the flavor was really delish. We all ate our fried pickles (except hubs: no gluten). Mom had chicken w/ swiss and sprouted bread (she's conservative) w the slaw, Pops had asian bbq ("different") and the kicky beans. He loved his pickles... I had the bison burger but switched to beef and a pretzel bun. The jalapenos need to be seeded. TOO hot. Their pretzel buns are nice and soft, not too chewy. I had onion rings that were very nice. Our service wasn't bad b/c it was mid day, but I can see where it could be a problem. we have a gourmet burger place in Elgin that we eat at a lot (Prime Burger House) and it was similar. Stack'd isn't my favorite burger place. Their black bean burger is overly spicy and without much other flavor - plus it falls apart so easily that it's easier to eat it with a fork, which is just not what I want in a burger. The macaroni and cheese tastes more like macaroni and mustard (and I love mustard!) than macaroni and cheese. read more

Stack'd, you let me down. I brought my parents here and my stepdad is a hamburger lover and eats more of them than Wimpy from Popeye. I figured I couldn't go wrong here. They did do some things right, like the onion rings and fried pickles. Delicious and I liked the presentation of the onion rings. However... I ordered the 14 dollar Hangover Stack which sounded like THE signature burger of this restaurant after reading the description. It just wasn't really that great. Absolutely nothing to write home about. Not only that, I ordered it medium and it came back practically rare. If I wanted Steak Tartare, I would go to Lake Park Bistro. Blecch! Anyway, I thought it was overpriced and no one with me was really impressed with this place. I thought I was gonna score big with the rents, but to no avail. I had heard Stack'd being compared to Kuma's Corner in Chicago, and the only explanation I have is that these same people have never actually been to Kuma's. We came to Stack'd for a rehearsal dinner prior to my friend's wedding so I cannot talk much about service and ambiance as we were in a back room and somewhat distracted. I also arrived after the appetizers were mostly consumed so you will get my unadulterated discussion about this one dish, the ridiculous and amazing Hangover Stack. It starts with a 1/2 pound burger made up of Tallgrass beef cooked to order which is my first area of discussion. Top it with some aged Wisconsin cheddar and thick cut bacon and you've got yourself a burger! But wait that is just the beginning. Next they add fried onions, lettuce, and tomato and an egg supposedly fried to your liking. Lastly they let you pick from your choice of bun and with server consultation I settled on the pretzel bun. She really twisted my arm. They top it all off with two fried pickles and then I took my wife's and added them to the middle of my burger, why not! Inconspicuously laid next to the burger were some of the most wonderfully fried onion rings. Hot and crispy and not greasy in the least. I excitedly cut my burger in half so I could 1. get a picture and 2. figure out how to eat it and was both pleased and disappointed at the same time. The burger looked gorgeous, perfectly cooked to my mid-rare expectations, juicy and inviting. The toppings were well done, the lettuce crisp, and the tomatoes fresh. The one issue was the egg. This was the first time I ever ordered and egg on a burger and asked for it over medium. Over medium means creamy, not runny and not solid. Creamy, so it gets all over the rest of the burger but not the plate. Sadly my egg was overcooked and you can see it plainly in the picture where it is solidly stuck right in the middle of the burger. Sad times, maybe next time I will ask for over easy to make sure I get some savory egg flavor soaked into the meat and the bun. On first bite you could tell that this was a serious burger at a serious burger restaurant. The meat was so juicy and perfectly cooked. It was without a doubt top shelf meat because regardless of the six different toppings the beef sang through. On the other hand, the toppings were awesome. The cheese was gooey and had a bite to it; the bacon was crispy and full of flavor. The fried onions strings and added fried pickles brought that greasy note to the party and the fresh vegetables cut through all the savory notes to make it all manageable. Without the lettuce and tomato there would be no way I could have finished the burger but I did! The egg was good and added some of the creamy element to the burger but I really wished it was cooked less. It just did not make the impact I thought it would. Now the pretzel bun...awesome! Nice and chewy and a little sweet it pulled the whole burger together. All in all this was a great burger, one of the best I've had. I would have given it a solid 10 if not for the egg issue. I also could complain about the fact that I didn't get my mini Tabasco bottle but I could have just asked if I really wanted it so I will take the blame for that one. This is a great place and next time I am in Milwaukee I will come back to see the main part of the restaurant. For a carnivorous/vegan friendly casual restaurant - this is about as good as it gets in Milwaukee. A homemade black bean burger on a Milwaukee pretzel bun + sweet potato fries? Yes please. Solid happy hour too - B1G1 rail cocktails - a steal given the Milwaukee beer first scene. My only suggestion would be to change up the place a bit - the decor has been the same since it opened. Visited Stackd 2 Fridays ago after reading a couple of online reviews that were (mostly) positive. Plus, I had a genuine intrigue with the fact I can build my own meal... this is mostly because then they cant mess it up if I tell them what I DO want as opposed to things I don't want on it :) I was super impressed. Great ambiance, great menu- food and drink. Impressive selection of options making an endless number of burgers to suit your fancy. I had the black bean burger on bed of greens, because lately i've been obsessed with black bean burgers-- but only ones made well. This burger was amazing. My dining companion had the bison on pretzel roll, with jalapenos, which was hands DOWN THE BEST BURGER I'VE EVER TRIED!!! no kidding. flavorful and done perfectly... and I am a picky jerk about food. We had the mushroom fries to start, and they were so lightly fried that it didn't over power the mushroom- because on their own, mushrooms lack that ka-pow flavor... so the fried-ness didn't mess them up. Service was decent. The young college gal was peppy enough that it didn't totally get on my nerves, but had we stayed longer, it would have. The place was dead at about 830ish on a Friday too.. I usually like to 'go where people go'...so it felt weird to be 2 of maybe 12 people in the restaurant. read more

1) The food is simple and excellent. The burgers are fresh, hot, properly cooked (when you order medium, you get medium), covered generously with delicious toppings, and sandwiched between some incredible bread options. The twisted mac and cheese is the best mac and cheese I have ever had. Fried pickles on top of the burger were a pleasant surprise, which is even more surprising because I generally don't like fried pickles. 2) Our server was awesome. I threw all kinds of crazy tasks her way (what kind of person gives the waitress multiple orders and asks to be surprised with one of them...I do). My soda glass was never empty despite drinking like 8 cokes during the meal. She just took everything in stride, was friendly, fast, and funny. 3)Atmosphere was really great with a modern space in an old building, cool decor, good music at a good volume. Being able to see into the kitchen was nice. 4) Only downside I can see is the price. $9 is the cheapest burger, which struck me as a bit on the expensive side, but they did have some cheaper options like a grilled cheese with Gouda, Cheddar, and more that my friend had and it was "very good" according to him. read more
