We loved Thompson Moving until our last move in December 2025. I actually wrote a review earlier,…read morepraising Thompson Moving. I was shocked when we again requested the company to move us a very, very short distance from one place in our rental community to a larger place in the same rental community. From the very first meet my husband and I felt uncomfortable because the man in charge came in with a nasty attitude. Lance spent more time in our restrooms obviously avoiding moving our belongings. While he was in our original apartment, he announced to us that our couch was oversized and he would NOT be able to get it upstairs in our townhouse. Lance had never been in our new townhouse so how he made that determination is still baffling. He claimed that we would need to leave our couch down in the basement. My husband removed the chair rail himself and lo and behold, the couch actually fit. One of his minions, kept telling us that Lance was an expert and knew what he was talking about. Lance was lazy and for every 10 boxes his helpers carried up, Lance brought one. Of course, that was when he wasn't hiding in our bathroom. At one point I couldn't take it anymore and finally told him that I was shocked by the way he kept dropping everything on the floor, unfortunately, so did his helpers with the exception of two of them. I overheard him outside telling his coworkers that he was tired of my "smart mouth". His coworker apologized to my husband and I for Lance's behavior and comment knowing we had obviously heard it. Thankfully, there were two guys that had a work ethic. A few more words about Lance. Lance continuously complained about how cold it was outside, which it was, yet none of his coworkers were whining. One of the guys was struggling with moving our couch at which point it dropped on his foot. That had to be extremely painful, but he continued to carry on. Later, Lance got scratched by a staple in our couch and so overreacted that it was comical. Keep in mind the poor guy that had the couch drop on his foot and then this large grown man practically melting down over what was equivalent to a paper cut. The other thing we noticed was that Jacob had talked about giving us a deal as returning customers, however, Lance actually charged us extra. I recommend that you ask Jacob ahead of time if Lance will be the one sent to you. If so, make sure you have toilet paper in your bathroom because that's where he likes to hide. I actually saw another review prior to our move and realized too late that the reviewer was referring to Lance. Hopefully Jacob has let him go, but unfortunately, the damage has been done and most likely we will not ever use Thompson Moving again.

Top Notch was indeed the tops! They were absolutely wonderful to work with from start to finish…read more We had a tricky move in that we moved from big home in Baltimore to a couple storage units until our renovations were complete at the new home. And the new home is on an island not accessible by car! Top Notch handled it ALL!! The crew packed everything up in Baltimore to be kept safe and sound in storage through the winter. When our new home was move in ready the following May, they took care of the move from storage reassuring us there was no need for us to make the trek back down to Baltimore to "supervise". They assured us and took care of everything on that end for us. Then they coordinated with the barging service in Portland, Maine, drove the 10 hours north in 2 full trucks, and as tides demanded, boarded a 6:30am boat across Casco Bay for the hour-long boat ride in some Maine spring weather. They arrived with smiles on their faces and unloaded the 2 trucks in record time so they could make the barge off at the next high tide. The crew was fantastic, the management helpful, reassuring, and responsive and every single item arrived in perfect shape. We could not have done this multi-stepped, complicated move without them. I highly recommend this company. Alexa Gilmore

The downside is that they don't always have enough carts; and despite all the things that are positive, they have raised my monthly rental fee several times since I originally contracted with them about a year ago which has been quite disappointing.

Our new rent for $568, a 19% increase. On a square foot basis, that is about 10% more than a nice apartment in Bel Air, MD with a pool. 2. Service has gone down. They went from the office being open seven days a week to 5 (closed Tuesday and Sunday). There are no restroom facilities when the office is closed. 3. The light in our storage unit is out. Since the office is closed on Tuesdays, we are stuck. 4. A pedestrian cannot get out of the yard, even if the office is open. This is a problem if you want the restroom in the store across the street. You have to drive. 5. A pedestrian cannot get from the building to outside the yard without setting off the alarm if the office is closed. They can only get to the yard, and the is no exit from the yard. 6. The elevators are awful. There were two elevators when I was there on September 2, 2025. One was out of order and one would periodically go to the wrong floor (see pictures). 7. I met a gentleman who said he got stuck in one of the elevators a while ago, and had to call 911 to get out. He ended with "I can't wait to get out of this place." 8. One of of the exit signs in the building was destroyed (see picture). 9. When I complained the first time, they asked me to email them. I did twice with no response.
