We loved Thompson Moving until our last move in December 2025. I actually wrote a review earlier, praising Thompson Moving. I was shocked when we again requested the company to move us a very, very short distance from one place in our rental community to a larger place in the same rental community. From the very first meet my husband and I felt uncomfortable because the man in charge came in with a nasty attitude. Lance spent more time in our restrooms obviously avoiding moving our belongings. While he was in our original apartment, he announced to us that our couch was oversized and he would NOT be able to get it upstairs in our townhouse. Lance had never been in our new townhouse so how he made that determination is still baffling. He claimed that we would need to leave our couch down in the basement. My husband removed the chair rail himself and lo and behold, the couch actually fit. One of his minions, kept telling us that Lance was an expert and knew what he was talking about. Lance was lazy and for every 10 boxes his helpers carried up, Lance brought one. Of course, that was when he wasn't hiding in our bathroom. At one point I couldn't take it anymore and finally told him that I was shocked by the way he kept dropping everything on the floor, unfortunately, so did his helpers with the exception of two of them. I overheard him outside telling his coworkers that he was tired of my "smart mouth". His coworker apologized to my husband and I for Lance's behavior and comment knowing we had obviously heard it. Thankfully, there were two guys that had a work ethic. A few more words about Lance. Lance continuously complained about how cold it was outside, which it was, yet none of his coworkers were whining. One of the guys was struggling with moving our couch at which point it dropped on his foot. That had to be extremely painful, but he continued to carry on. Later, Lance got scratched by a staple in our couch and so overreacted that it was comical. Keep in mind the poor guy that had the couch drop on his foot and then this large grown man practically melting down over what was equivalent to a paper cut. The other thing we noticed was that Jacob had talked about giving us a deal as returning customers, however, Lance actually charged us extra. I recommend that you ask Jacob ahead of time if Lance will be the one sent to you. If so, make sure you have toilet paper in your bathroom because that's where he likes to hide. I actually saw another review prior to our move and realized too late that the reviewer was referring to Lance. Hopefully Jacob has let him go, but unfortunately, the damage has been done and most likely we will not ever use Thompson Moving again. read more

TERRIBLE. we booked our move 6 weeks ago and the DAY OF OUR MOVE, they cancelled on us without any apologies or attempt to help find other movers. they said the driver got a flat tire and was waiting for roadside assistance (if you're a mover... wouldnt you think you could change a flat tire?!?!) and i tried calling for more information, he said he would update me and then I got no updates and he wouldnt pick up his phone. seriously, i hope they go out of business because there was just NO consideration for us as humans or customers. they didnt care at all the insanity and stress they caused and we had to scramble to get movers for the same day read more

I would've given a higher rating as the movers were very nice and accommodating but there were 2 things that occurred that prevent the higher rating: 1. We were moving out of state and they left our home to go to the new house without saying anything to either me or my partner. This was a problem because we weren't finished and once we noticed they left, had to scramble to leave and a lot of stuff was left behind that we had to come back and deal with several times. 2. We had a new television that was mounted to the wall, they took it down and put it in the truck. Unbeknownst to us, they did not wrap it properly and the screen cracked and therefore it was ruined (see attached photos). We called to tell them about it, talked to someone in the office who assured us she would pass on the message when the manager returned to the office - they still have not gotten back to us - contacted 3 times over the last 2 weeks - about compensation/reimbursement for the damage. Additionally, they returned with a second truck the next morning and a few young men to help that on our observation should've been supervised more closely. This move was very expensive and we are disappointed about the poor customer service and lack of attention to our issue. These movers were overall great for an out of state move. I got a bit nervous because they were over 45 minutes late arriving and, being a Saturday, I couldn't get a hold of anyone at first. When they arrived, they said the truck needed extra time to start up; it had snowed the night before. They made up for any initial worry-- after that initial hiccup, everything went smoothly, no issues at all. Very polite and professional service. I especially appreciated their fair pricing with no hidden costs. I researched a lot of movers in the Bel Air, MD area, and they gave me the best quote by far, and then came in under what I had budgeted. Several friends and family recommended them as the best. I hired Thompson's Moving to relocate me from a studio apt in NYC to MD. I had learned of Thompson's from a furniture retailer in MD. The retailer couldn't deliver the furniture I purchased because of the discounted price. They mentioned Thompson's as a local mover who was familiar with the area. I arranged with Thompson's to pick up my furniture from the retailer and deliver to my MD apt., which was under 1 mile away. I had not yet relocated to MD. The 4 pieces of furniture were moved with no hitch. About a month before my 01/28/10 move date, I contacted Thompson's to inquire about moving me to MD. I explained although almost no furniture was to be moved, only clothing, 2 computers, & personal items, I needed packing services due to disability issues. I was relocating to be closer to Johns Hopkins Medical Center. As of the moving date, they still had not returned with a quote. Thompson's called on the morning of the move to ask if I completed my packing. I reminded her I had requested they pack because of disability issues. She recalled I had discussed that, but it was too late as the driver had already left with no boxes for packing. They reduced the number of staff members they had sent to 1 driver as they needed the 2nd person for a larger move in NH. The driver called several hrs late. He couldn't find my address. After hearing him describe the area, I realized he was in Kings County (Brooklyn) and not New York County (Manhattan). Upon his arrival, I explained Thompson's called & notified me they had forgotten about the packing. The driver stated he was not equipped to pack anything as he had no boxes & no other staff were with him. We called their office. I suggested we reschedule as they were not prepared. Thompson's wouldn't reschedule unless I requested it. I feared they wanted me to request a reschedule to justify additional expenses. They instructed the driver to proceed with the job even though he was not equipped. The driver had 1 box in the truck, which had broken dishes in it. He kept loading it with my clothing, bringing it to the truck, & returning with the same box to reload. After about 2/3 of my property was loaded, I instructed him not to load any more. I was concerned how he had been loading my property in the truck; my possessions, including a computer, had been dropped several times; & I feared further damage. I arrived at my new MD apartment the next day to find my possessions left in piles scattered throughout the apartment. I subsequently discovered my Alienware laptop ($5,000.00) was missing. 2 days later, I received a call from Thompson's asking when & how they were going to get paid their $1,200.00. I explained that was the 1st time I heard the figure $1200.00. I also explained I wanted to get advice on how to address this. I would contact them within the week. They hung up. They proceeded to put through an unauthorized charge of $1,000.00 on my credit card. (They had the number from my earlier furniture purchase). I called my bank, who indicated a claim process would necessitate my hiring a certified mover to evaluate how the move was handled. As this would've been an additional expense I couldn't handle, & as my disability was making the move difficult enough, I couldn't proceed with the claim process. read more

Showed up on time to move a one piece 5ft 330 lb sink vanity. Ordered for a bathroom renovation project and needed to be moved from garage storage to the second floor. They totally wrapped the vanity in pads, cardboard and shrink wrap then moved it up a three turn staircase. They covered all the carpet area and removed and replaced a large mirror on the stairway. Absolutely a professional job and very affordable. Highly recommend this company!!! read more

Thompson's Moving Inc is the absolute right choice if you need someone to move you. I called two moving companies in the Baltimore metro area. One gave me a price over the phone. Another came to my house and gave me a higher price and told me they do not move pianos. These companies added more stress to the monumental task before me. Then I found Thompson's Moving Inc! My first contact was by telephone with Jamie Thompson. Right away I felt I was talking with someone who knew what I needed to make the big move and how they could make it happen. Jamie's "can do" attitude and the belief and confidence in Thompson's Moving she conveyed put a smile on my face. I realized I had found THE RIGHT MOVER. It gave me great joy to deal with a Harford County company. Tom Thompson came to my house to estimate my cost. Not only did he answer my questions, he gave me information I didn't even know to ask about. It became quite obvious to me that the Thompsons are certified and experienced in the moving industry. They loaded my piano a couple days ahead of the move. They had all the what-ifs and timing down perfectly. As we approached moving day, I realized I wasn't going to get it all packed in time as I was doing it solely. No problem, they said, and they sent a crew in to finish packing. They were thorough and meticulous in their work. They were kind to me. I arrived to settle on my GA house on a Monday morning. Thompson's Moving made the 730+ mile trip and arrived at my new home immediately after. With great care, they brought my belongings, including my baby grand piano, in to my new home and took effort to place items where I wanted them. Thompson's Moving excel at customer service by providing the best for their customers. It was no easy task and I thank the Thompson family and their team for doing what was needed to be done. Through their efforts, they delivered me and my belonging safely to Georgia. I highly recommend Thompson's Moving. I was lucky they were available to provide the most important service needed in any move. I trusted them and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Thompson's moved my mother from Carroll county to a storage facility in Harford County and it could not have gone more smoothly. A crew of three men (Josh, Preston, and Tyrek) were all very professional and did a fantastic job. They were on time and very careful with all of her belongings, even laying blankets on the floor in the entryway to protect it. Each piece of furniture was carefully wrapped and moved and they took time to ensure items were stacked in the truck and storage unit to maximize space. As a result they were able to fit all of her belongings on one truck. We could not have been more pleased. Don't let the sweet lady at the front desk fool you. They took 9 hours for a 2 bedroom move that was 2 miles down the road from me. If you want movers that take their sweet a## time, when you're paying hourly, then higher them. They sent one efficient guy and one not at all efficient - nor was he strong for hauling. He took 6 or 7 smoke breaks and left cigarettes on my lawn. Good luck if you higher them. read more

worst experience ever today my brother moved he hired them to move his 1bedroom appartment it was two guys one guys was great but the guy Rob was lazy, had an attitude and the hold time and stayed on the truck 85% of the time smoking making the move twice as long. they did not have no tools. a friend had to leave and go get a power screwdriver just so they could work. I was very unhappy with the customer service of this company. I went with them since they are a local family run company, but I guess that was a bad decision! The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the movers were great guys and did good work. Otherwise I would rate 1 star. First off, I was given a Quote over the phone for 1 truck and 3 men. Then we decided to also have them stop at our storage unit so I called back and was told I would need to add another truck and man. Obviously the price went up, which is understandable. However; the day of the move the movers arrived 30 minutes late to start. Then when they left my house to go to the storage unit the door wouldn't close so we could not leave. It took over an hour to locate them and have one truck come back to the house to fix the door. Apparently they were eating lunch and also did the office didn't call them. Who knows! After we finally got both trucks to my house to unload, the guys were great. They took care to not hit the walls etc. When it was time to pay I was given a paper that had a different amount than I was quoted for as well as more hours of work. I was told that I needed to pay for travel time and their breaks. This was not communicated in the original phone quote. When i questioned the rate I was told to call the office (a woman). She answered and told me I was wrong and no one would have ever quoted me that price! The other thing that is very frustrating is that she told me I'd receive a 10% discount if I paid in cash so I made sure to have enough cash to pay them as well as tips, but with this new price I didn't have enough cash. So I had to pay more plus no discount because I had to use my credit card! She basically said tough luck. And here I am with a bunch of tired sweating guys who worked all day and just want to go home to their families. So I begrudgingly paid them. After the dust settled we realized that one of my husbands expensive tools was missing. It was in a giant sealed box- no way it would have gotten lost. Our China cabinet was also scratched. When I contacted the company I was told that someone could come out and try to repair the China cabinet and help us look for the missing tool! Really?! You don't think we can see things and need you to look through our things?! I'm so frustrated with this company and really disappointed that I chose them for our move. read more

2 prior moves with this company were great. This move worst move ever!! Driver got angry because he said he was told incorrectly where things were going (having moved to 2 different locations). He went on an angry rant about being called a liar. We called the company while driver was there to complain and the owner told us if we didn't pay for the move in cash in full beforehand , they would take all of our stuff off the truck and leave on the driveway of our old house. Needless to say, with our things held hostage, we paid, but only had our belongings moved to one location. No way we were continuing any further beyond that. Couldn't believe this was how the owner responded to us calling about his employee's angry rant!! I plan to tell every single person I know and meet from DE to DC about this company and how they do business. Now we are left having to hire another mover to move our stuff from storage. We moved with Thompson's Moving at the end of August, 2016, and are still trying through phone calls, messages and letters to resolve several lost, broken and taken items. The company refuses to address the problems, and we are at the point of a Small Claims lawsuit. If customer service is important to you, this is not the moving company to use. read more

I was very dissatisfied with my most recent service from Thompson's Moving of Street, Maryland, and I would not recommend them. I had used them previously for a quick job to move furniture to a new apartment, and they did good work at that time, so I used them again. However, there was a big difference in service the second time around. I hired Thompson's Moving for two men for two labor hours, to load up a rental truck. I would have done the work on my own, however I had some large, heavy furniture that would require additional labor, and I did not have anyone available who could help lift the heavy items. The crew who loaded the truck did so incorrectly. I have moved several times, and the truck rental companies always recommend that the weight be distributed evenly and horizontally across the back of the truck. Thompson's crew did work quickly and they worked hard. Yet, all of the material was loaded vertically to the ceiling and towards the front of the truck, with a four to five foot gap of empty space near the exit. There was no attention paid to putting heavy items on the floor with lighter items at the top. Heavy items were placed at the top of the pile. The crew did alert me that a rope would be needed to secure the contents. However, I did not have one, and the truck was my only source of transportation at the time. I was going to tow my automobile with the rental truck, and my car was parked at the rental truck agency, to pick up after the truck was loaded. I offered to buy a rope from the crew, but they said they did not have one. I drove slowly about five miles to the rental truck agency to buy a rope there. When I opened up the back of the truck, a good portion of the load had shifted. Boxes had fallen and opened. There were literally glass dishes strewn about the back of the truck; luckily none of them broke. I had to spend an hour in the rental truck agency's parking lot re-organizing the back of the truck. This was only after five miles of transport; I had a one-thousand mile trip ahead of me. In addition, they overcharged me for the work, for $380 total. When I had called regarding an estimate, they told me it would be a two-hour minimum at $95 an hour for two men. This is higher than the average rate. I paid the bill and called them back later. I talked to the same woman on the phone, and she changed her script, telling me there was a four-hour minimum, and it was a 45 minute drive from Street, Maryland, to my location in Perry Hall. With two hours of labor, that is a $190 cab ride for a relatively short trip. This place is a ripoff and does a poor quality job. I have had other movers do a better job with the same amount of labor and time for one-third of the price. I would not recommend doing business with Thompson's Moving. If you do, make sure you get the estimate IN WRITING. read more
