My wife and I recently visited Stable DC for dinner and had an overall good experience. However, the meal didn't get off to a good start. First we ordered the Famous Stable Wings: the very first item on the menu that asks to "Please allow 10 minutes for preparation". This dish sounded like a must order but was massively disappointing. The wings and accompanying sauce (which was inexplicably poured at bottom of the basket under the wings) were completely flavorless and some of the worst wings I have tried. Luckily the next appetizer we ordered, Raclette Toast, was delicious. Rich salty ham and soft flavorful melted cheese sat on crisp toasted bread. Finally, we had to have the Cheese Fondue. We ordered the version with dried garlic and black pepper. This gooey flavorful lightly peppery cheese was perfect for dipping soft bread and savory potatoes. Definitely order the fondue. read more

Authentic Swiss food is hard to come by, which makes Stable a true gem. I visited the Little Stable outdoor dining popup for some air-dried meats, cheese fondue, and glühwein/apfelwein. The heating lamps and fondue experience kept us nice and warm. The staff was very attentive and kept the bread coming. Rest assured, you will not leave anything short of full. This place is so unique and unlike anywhere I've ever eaten before in any city. Stable is tucked away off of H Street and looks a little inconspicuous from the outside, but the moment you step inside it's like you've been transported to the Swiss Alps! Stable is one of my favorite places for brunch. They have gone through some growing pains in a good way. The back they have converted into these little chalets, like little private rooms, way cute and socially distanced. I had no idea this place was this good... but considering I love bomboloni, and seeing what I thought was one while walking by, I made a quick stop to pick up what they call a Berliner instead. And well... their Berliner, while smaller than a typical bombolini, would give the Italian counterpart a run for its money! There were three types - and I picked the vanilla cream and praline and, honestly, it made my day. Took the streetcar north of Union Station for free to the restaurant. Reserved a chalet room. The restaurant ambiance is wonderful. All the staff on the way to our table greeted us with genuine smiles and greetings. Server checked on us often. The fondue was the best flavor I have ever had. We added salad, apples and potatoes. If you're looking for a good fondue place, look no further! We ordered the traditional and pear fondue (which did have a subtle sweet pear flavor). They come with bread but you can order extra things to dip into your fondue for a small additional price (ex: potato, apple slices, etc). We also ordered the Vol-au-vent which was essentially chicken dumplings in a puff pastry - this was tasty but a little bland and the portion was small. I would personally stick to the fondue, and I've heard the raclette is a good order as well, definitely trying this one out next time. They have cute little ski chalets in the back of the restaurant which is great for covid (like a private room)! They also come with blankets too if you tend to get cold like me :) read more

Stumbled across this place by walking down H street doing some day drinking activities lol. It's a cute place :) I had the wings on the appetizer menu and 2 of the Schnapsicle drinks. It's basically an alcohol popsicle in sparkling rosè (see pictures). We sat at the bar which you can see all the food being cooked right there in the kitchen (felt like I was watching a live cooking show). Everything looked great! Yesterday, my friends and I had lunch at the restaurant. We had waiter, K'Von A. We came in with an extra person and the restaurant accommodated them at the table. We were being introduced to a Swiss dining experience by our Swiss friend and were told we had to order Swiss food by the friend. We ordered 4 pulled duck leg sandwiches with apple slaw/mayo and salad. And, one dish was sausage, potatoes, and cheese. And, we ordered desserts to eat in and several to take out. Our dining experience was incredible with the excellent service, delicious food, and wonderful atmosphere. This place is an authentic Swiss resturaunt. The breads were so fresh and tasty. They have a selection of Swiss beer that you can't find anywhere else in America and it was scrumptious. I had the Eggs Benedict on a traditional Alpine "Rosti". I really enjoyed it. The owners are from Switzerland and it shows because the food is on point and the place is run like a Rolex! The fondue is tasty but only comes with bread - getting other sides is extra (and you can't get a mix of them - like a side of a bowl of potatoes or a bowl of apples or a bowl of pickles) and would have liked more variety. We purchased some extra - the apples and potatoes - the potatoes were a little hard and completely flavorless (needed some salt in my opinion) - still tasted too plain even in the cheese. The table is a little small to not feel cramped. Overall, it was a good experience but we probably won't go back. My wife, friend, and I went to Stable for a Saturday brunch at 10:30am. It was a holiday weekend and we walked right in without a reservation. By the time we left at noon, there was a healthy flow of people. Here's what's to love about Stable: 1) Atmosphere: You're transported into Switzerland. The wooden decor, the bread baskets at the bar and the iron spiral staircase in the back dining room, creates atmosphere. The front room has a wall that lifts up in warmer weather giving diners a view of the historic Atlas Theater across the street. 2) Service: Perfect balance of attentive, friendly, and giving you your space to dine with friends. 3) Food: My Stable Casserole was perfect- creamy, balanced, and the fried egg cooked to perfection. After moving here from Switzerland 20 years ago, the only way I could get legit Swiss food was to travel all the way there again. However, since stumbling across Stable DC, I no longer need to cross the Atlantic Ocean to get delicious and authentic Swiss food! The Veal Bratwurst and Rösti plate was great. The flavors and textures were exactly as I remembered from Switzerland. The rösti was cooked perfectly with naturally flavorful potatoes and a nice, crispy golden crust. The wine sauce tied everything together wonderfully. And while I grew up eating Berliners (sugared doughnuts filled with jam) as morning or afternoon snacks, rather than with a meal, the ones here were so fresh and delicious that I rapidly inhaled both of them along with my entree. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner during my visit - turns out he and one of the chefs both came from Switzerland! It was lovely to speak with them and to hear their stories. (I initially suspected there had to be at least one Swiss person on staff when I noticed the server pronouncing the food names correctly.) Overall, great food and great staff. Ordered the Fairy Milk, which they kindly added a little cocoa powder too, while my friend got an elderflower spritz like drink. Both drinks were great! Split food, and ordered the raclette (the plate version), which came with the cheese over baby potatoes and pickles. Split a quiche, which had a crispy top and was EXTREMELY CHEESY, I normally don't enjoy just cheese quiches but this was amazing. The salad that came with was well seasoned. We also added on a pretzel and a side of bratwurst, which they were kind enough to accommodate! When we walked in, we were immediately enticed by the pastries. The berliners did not disappoint. We got one cream and praline one and one Nutella. The cream was very custardy while the Nutella filling was light and fluffy would highly recommend both. Visited Little Stable & it was the most fun I've ever had eating fondue! I went in a group of 5 hungry girls & we wanted to try 2 cheeses (garlic pepper cheese & pear cheese). Each fondue pot must have at least "2 orders of cheese). We ordered a "two person serving" of the garlic cheese & a "two person serving" of the pear cheese and it was a lot of cheese. Our favorite was the garlic one, so next time, we will order one pot (with 3 servings) among the 5 of us. Each serving is around $30, so 3 serving split among 5 people would be $18 per person (pretty good deal) and they give you UNLIMITED cubes of bread for dipping! Apparently Stable is the first Swiss-American restaurant in DC?? Very cute ambiance (seemed like a great place for an intimate dinner), clean interior, and friendly service. Located off of H street it was pretty easy to spot and street parking wasn't that bad either (Sunday around noon). My friend and I ordered the Schnapsicle (Apricot and Raspberry), while my other friend ordered the Bloody Mary. Out of the 2 flavors we tried the Raspberry definitely tasted better. These drinks were cute for pictures but taste wise/convenience not that much. I had to take my spoon and break apart the popsicle inside so I could actually drink the rose at the bottom. My friend left hers until it completely melted and drank it after, but the drink became way too sweet... My friend enjoyed her Bloody Mary and the presentation was nice (was on the spicier side). For food items we ordered the Chicken Liver Pate to share (5/5 if you like Pate), Smoked Salmon (4/5 nothing special- just smoked salmon on toast), Egg Benedict (4/5 again tasted no different from other brunch places), and the Grilled Veal Bratwurst and Rosti (5/5 this was the most unique out of everything we ordered entree wise). Nothing really stood out for me where I wanted to come back asap (especially because location wise it is a bit far for me). Stable DC is the place to go when you are craving ooey gooey cheese fondue. My family and I recently dined there. We enjoyed sitting in an adorable mini chalet with curtains you could pull closed if you wanted privacy. The service was friendly and extremely helpful. We devoured the traditional cheese fondue and added sliced apples, salad and potatoes to the bread that comes with it. Do not be fooled. The fondue is totally a meal within itself. You won't leave hungry I promise you. For those not interested in cheese, Stable DC has other items on the menu to choose from, but it's the fondue that seems to keep customers coming back for more. The service was excellent (both from our server and management) and they're doing their best during COVID, but the location right next to the H Street Trolley is just SO LOUD. I'm not sure I'd prioritize coming back here until we can eat inside again. It also took quite a long time to get our drinks outside. That said, the Mountain Xanax was AWESOME and tasted just like I was in the Austrian Alps. The chicken liver pate was super smooth, creamy, and sweet, just how I like it. The cheese roses were a bit too salty to finish though. The Belper Knolle (garlic-pepper) fondue was really good but the flavor wasn't super strong and the sides were really disappointing. The sausage was a little too tough and dry. I felt the cheese broth could definitely improved though. It was kind watery and bland for my liking. The staff did help by recooking it and adding more starch and salt. I saw a video of this restaurant on social media and had to check it out! I got brunch with my fiancé and we really enjoyed it. It's not your typical brunch food obviously as it's authentic Swiss food. We ordered the chocolate croissant from the bakery and the chicken liver pâté to start. Both were very tasty. We also ordered the zopf french toast and the grilled veal bratwurst and rösti. The french toast had a ton of sugar on it, but was still very delicious. I liked the rösti as well though wasn't a huge fan of the bratwurst. My fiancé, who is from Germany, grew up eating this kind of food, so he loved everything! The atmosphere of this restaurant was adorable. We ate inside in our own private chalet. The chalets were decorated so cute and were COVID-safe. Did the Raclette brunch with a group of friends yesterday. It was fun and delicious. I only wish that for $35 we got a wider variety of items to grill. The $35 includes mini pickles, potatoes, bread (yum!) and onions with cheese for melting. Meat is an additional $5 per person. It was fun to try once, but I don't think I'd do it again. Came here with friends on a Saturday evening as a big group of 9. Our service guy is very friendly. My drink pearadise is really good. We got the cheese fondue to start. It's plenty of cheese for 9 of us, we just asked for extra basket of bread. Tasty and amazing. The cheese flower thing is interesting, the pairing tastes like fig bar and the cheese doesn't taste like cheese. The sausage appetizer is pretty good. I got the Pan Seared Branzino, the fish was very well cooked. The paired endive is a little too sweet for me. The duck leg entree my friend got is very flavorful. We were on H Street celebrating a friend's marriage over drinks at Sally's Middle Name and wanted to grab a bite nearby. I of course turned to Yelp, which surfaced Stable as the top restaurant nearby with a solid 4.5 average rating. My friend had heard good things about it and its gooey Raclette cheese (which my iPhone keeps trying to autocorrect to racketeering cheese), so we headed two doors down to check it out "DC's first Swiss-American restaurant". Stable is narrow but long space (like a row house) and has what I'd call modern picnic decor--wooden slats on the wall, rustic wooden tables with red and white checkered napkins, simple metal chairs. There are plenty on glass windows on the front facade and back skylight to keep it feeling airy. Our server Cameron was pleasant and prompt. We got started with some drinks and continued to scour the menu to select our alpine comfort food. The cheese puffs were all out ah-maze-ing could've eaten a few plates of those warm cheesy yet crunchy treats. The puff is powered by puff pastry, so it's light, crispy and buttery gruyere goodness. We were so enamored by the cheese puffs that we didn't turn our attention to the roasted root vegetables for a few minutes, which didn't do this sad dish any favors. The neglected plate was lukewarm, and that also summed up our feelings for it. Pretty, but a very meager portion with a few carrot wedges and slices of two other veggies, and grapefruit segments with a few pomegranate seeds sprinkled around. Disappointing on its own, and even more so with a $10 price tag. The two main dishes saved the meal. Vol-au-vent seemed to be a Swiss take on the pot pie, and it was good. More puff pasty and creamy mushrooms, and what the menu calls chicken dumplings. We were puzzled by the little perfectly round white balls of chicken that looked like marbles--until our server explained that they were little chicken meatballs. They weren't browned like regular meatballs which I think is why we were imagining someone with a melon baller scooping out a chicken breast. Mystery solved. The cheese spaetzli (pronounced shpets-lee for the non-deutsch speakers) was the solid comfort food we were expecting, and it had big shoes to fill since we didn't order any Raclette after all. Spaetzli is an egg pasta whittled into chewy little pieces of paradise and then pan fried with cheese and topped with crispy onions. You can also get them across the street at the H St. Biergarten if the rest of the Stable menu isn't a draw, but these tasted legit. Two apps and two mains were enough for two women with a few bites left over. Portions were more petite than you'd see at a typical hearty German (and yes, I understand this is a Swiss restaurant and that they're two separate but neighboring countries) as this strives to be modern Swiss-US cuisine and not a hefty plate to keep endless steins of beer company. A nice experience with some unique takes, but can't say I'm clamoring to go back as there are so many other options on H St. read more

We ventured to Stable for the first time to try their boozy Scnappsicles and they did not disappoint. I tried the raspberry and sampled the pear as well. I was so impressed to find the boozy frozen treats to be refreshing and bursting with real fruit flavor and texture and not overly sweet. Our bartender was so attentive and helpful, especially after mentioning that I was avoiding dairy (which is a bummer because y'all the raclette looked so unbelievable). We ate the wings, smoked salami, shrimp cocktail, and nibbled on the fresh bread that came after we ordered. Everything was so fresh and the flavors were rich and vibrant. The sauce that came with the wings was so unique, to die for.
