I've been here before for Happy Hour, but this is the first time I came solely for the food. Let me tell you it was worth the trip! Their Fish & Chips hit the spot, crispy and tender fish & chips. As you can see the fish is a big portion, we actually got 3 orders and they were all consistently sized. The other item (no photo) was also delicious, the Guinness steak pie. Service was great, love that they had lots of seating outside if you don't like the dark ambiance inside.
One of my favorite pubs on the Peninsula and definitely a place on my list when I am in Mt. View. I remember going their regularly in the 90s. Besides the big LCD TVs, it remains the same. It still feels like a place where locals go. After trying to walk off fried calamari, burgers and beers, me and a buddy decided to have another beer at SSG. Nice. I hadn't been there in a little while and it was a reminder to keep it fresh in the memory bank. We got to catch up for a while and talk about days gone by. The place wasn't crowded and it allowed for an easy conversation without having to shout. Oh, yeah. Here's a pic.
Popped into St. Stephens for a quick pint of Guinness and was happy with it. Proper glass, proper pour, and a nice creamy refreshing pint. There is lots of seating outside in the street since the main road is closed to cars. Inside, there is a big bar with plenty of tables throughout the space and lots of TVs, making it an easy spot to watch a game. The vibe inside felt a little quiet when we were there. A few people were on laptops and there was not much conversation, so it felt more mellow than lively. Service was great. Kind, quick, and easy. A solid spot to stop in for a good Guinness and relaxed atmosphere.
This really should be a higher rating for the food, but because of serious service issues I have to knock this down a notch. A group of six of us came here on the day of the German Christmas market. We originally intended to pick up some Wurst or Schnitzel at the market, but the lines were really long and we thought we could get a quicker meal in a more comfortable environment by walking down Castro a bit. We came across this place, and while it wasn't the Teutonic fare that we had planned to eat the menu seemed interesting. Though Castro was quite crowded with people, there was ample seating when we arrived shortly after 1pm. We had our choice of tables and scrounged up a couple menus. There are certainly a lot of Irish and British choices with a few outliers (e.g. fish tacos and a quinoa bowl), and we made our selections carefully, then waited for someone to come take our order. And that was a problem. There was only a single server working the entire dining room, and she had to clear tables, take orders, and deliver food and drinks to the customers. After a good long while (over 15 minutes after sitting down), I approached the server to let her know that we were ready to place our order. She was very sweet and apologized, but it still took a while for her to make it to our table. We placed our order and she disappeared into the dining area, which was starting to fill up quite quickly. We chatted and watched some of the games on the many televisions as we waited for our food to arrive. But that was another very long wait. In the end, it was well over an hour from when we entered to our meals to land on our table. But the food was very good. I got the Guinness steak pie which had a nice flaky top crust and was filled with large tender chunks of steak and served with a side of fresh steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The gravy was rich and flavorful with a hint of malt from the beer. I had the opportunity to try the jumbo Irish breakfast roll, which was also quite good. We shared a side of lemon almond Brussels sprouts which was crispy and flavorful, but I missed the opportunity to sample the Scotch eggs that looked fantastic and received glowing reviews from my companions. The fish tacos got a bit of a meh reception from the person who ordered it. By the time we left, we had spent over two hours at the restaurant. It was a good opportunity to catch up, but we were quite famished when we arrived (especially the two people who had run a 15k race earlier in the day) and we would have preferred faster service. But this was certainly not the fault of the lone server on the floor. Despite the crowd, she kept her composure and was always smiling. We gave her a hefty tip for her hard work. I put the blame on the restaurant manager for not having more staff both in the front and back of the house. Would I come back again? Probably, if I know in advance that I have the time to spend here. After all, I still need to try those Scotch eggs.
Visited this pub for mother's day drag brunch, and the performances paired so well with the great food. Ordered some pretzels, fish and chips, and a full Irish breakfast. The pretzels were really soft and I liked the cheese sauce that came with it. The fish and chips were a little expensive, but it came with a pretty big fillet. It was a little overcooked though. The breakfast was pretty standard.
We had discovered this place during the Mountain View Taste event and loved the shepherd's pie and the cozy vibe, so my friend planned a surprise birthday dinner for me here. Sadly, the nice ambiance pretty much ended at the entrance. The shepherd's pie was still incredible--honestly, one of the best I've ever had. But the curry chicken wasn't our thing at all. It was way too sweet for our taste. Maybe that's how it's meant to be, considering it's an Irish pub, but still, it didn't work for us. To be fair, they let us change the dish without charging extra, which we appreciated. The portions were big and hot, so food-wise we were fine. But the AC in our section wasn't on. It was there, just not running. We had to ask for it to be turned on, which felt unnecessary in the middle of summer--it was hot and stuffy until then. Service was pretty slow. Our server was nice, but he spent way too much time chatting at the bar. One of our beers sat there for 10 minutes while he talked, and my friend ended up grabbing it herself. And the biggest disappointment? The surprise cake. We were just stepping outside for a breath of fresh air and were planning to come right back. But the server ran after us and said, "Wait! I'm bringing the birthday cake!" So... that was the surprise. Ruined. And yep, I was the birthday girl. We ended up leaving and going to Eureka afterward--and honestly, we wished we had just gone there from the start.
Really cozy spot with a classic pub atmosphere. Plenty of TVs if you're into watching sports, and the beer selection is solid. I tried the fish & chips -- super crispy and golden, though it could've used a bit more seasoning. Still enjoyable overall. Service was a little slow, but the staff were warm and welcoming, which made up for it. Great place to hang out casually. Would definitely come back for the vibes and a drink!
First half of the World Cup everything was normal, then they saw how many people showed up daily to watch the games and they wanted to profit off that. Round of 32 they started making everyone do a reservation online and charge $50 a person.
Come for the drinks stay for . Danica , Luis, Katie, and Pablo! Drinks are amazing as always. Fridays nights and Saturday nights are club nights. Overall good vibes , cool chill bartenders and great food. Oh and i can't forget about management Mark and Karen as well!
4/3/2025 St. Stephen's Green 223 Castro St Mountain View, CA 94041 I went there on a Thursday afternoon to try their Happy Hour. The Happy Hour menu is extensive and includes the Fish and Chips. It's at the north end of Castro St. with standard city lots or parking structures nearby. The interior had the dim, cozy pub feeling similar to my experiences in the UK. Since I was a single I sat at the bar and ordered the Fish & Chips and an Oakland stout from the Super Happy Hour menu. The beer was about a half pint and very smooth and tasty. My food was brought to me by one of the kitchen staff. The filet was huge on a generous bed of fries. The thicker part my fish was extra crispy and when it got cold was hard as a rock. The fish itself appears to be frozen, some parts were flaky and some parts mushy. The Happy Hour was an okay value but I would try something else a next time. Definitely would not get the Fish & Chips again.
Went to Stevie's for the Champions League final. Paid the cover! Fortunately I had cash - me the CC processing fee! It was a great atmosphere. Lots of people. Lots of TVs. Very energetic crowd. Got an Irish Breakfast. YUM! 10/10 recommend. The bartenders were super attentive and nice. Had an Irish Coffee. Forgot to take a photo but it was delish. Thanks for a fun time.
I go here a fair bit - only because the bar staff are great - they make up a bit for the management, quality, and overall attitude at the place though. Recently, I went there to watch the Champions league final. Arrived during the half time around 10am and they were charging $20 cash or $25 for card. A bit steep, but I didn't push on it. I asked if I could check if there is space inside first and they rudely refused - again not a big deal. Getting their high from acting like they are night club bouncers. I paid the cover and then sat outside. It wasn't very busy but took forever to order - wait staff just hanging out watching the game rather than serving. But where it went overboard - after 5 minutes of paying the cover, they removed the cover charge stand and people came and sat for free ordering nothing even for the whole game. Blocking views, drinking water. At the end of the game and settling my bill, I mentioned the issues to the manager. Their response: We charge an extra $5 for credit card, because of the fees -- that is a straight lie. He wants to claim credit card companies charge a 25% surcharges? I joked about it and then mentioned the cover charge going away, and they said 'we always remove the cover after half time'. I suggested that maybe to be friendly to customers, mention that if they just wait a couple minutes, the cover will go away. Their response: 'why would we do that if we can make money. Too bad for you'. The management have always been crusty at this place, but this was beyond what I would have expected at all. A normal person would say something like 'yeah that kinda sucks, can I get you a beer? or fries'. Or even just acknowledge it. but that last answer basically summarizes the attitude of the management and thinking on service. 'too bad for you'. I'd pass on this place for games - there are better places to go.

Celebratory ambiance in the air & people come to enjoy outside patio, play music & sing songs! Space Dust beer, Irish whiskey, life's good! A little bit of business, a tad of relaxation! Stephen's Green offers Super Happy Hour SHH 4-5:30 & Happy Hour HH staggered over it 5:30-6:30. Would you've guessed we stayed through both, you'd be 100% correct! Was in Mountain View for my wife's piano recital on Sunday (6/9). Decided to try out St Stephen's Green out of a whole slew of options. The lamb burger caught my eye. My low rating was solely because of the food. The ambiance and staff were top notch. The greeter went above and beyond what one would expect from a greeter, inviting us into the establishment. Our server, Samantha was very attentive. My son had the Kobe burger. He tells me it was ok, but nothing out of the ordinary. My wife had the Chipotle lime chicken salad. Again ok, but nothing out of the ordinary. I ended up eating half the salad as she could not finish it (nice size portion). I concur with my wife. As for me, I had the lamb burger. I had ordered it medium, but it seemed more like "well done (how most others would describe it). To me it was simply over cooked....as if left under a warming lamp while preparing the other dishes. One would assume the lamb fat would have kept the meat moist. We did not order drinks despite the place was a pub. We were just there for the food. Might return, but definitely will not be ordering the burgers or the salads. Maybe the Shepard's Pie.... read more

MUST come at 4-5:30PM for the (SHH)Super Happy Hour, some of the food price at (HH)Happy Hour 5:30-6:30PM are the same as ordering off the regular menu although the drinks are cheaper but what is the point in drinking on an empty stomach! Sausage Rolls: pastry is super flaky although the sausage part lack a bit of seasoning but there is this overpowering mustard sauce on the bottom so overall ok. Scotch Eggs: I called this the meat lover delight, the boiled egg is covered with mince meat, roll in breadcrumbs and deep fry. Super delicious! Shepherd Pie: buttery smooth mashed potatoes I can eat that just by itself, the meat filling was a bit on the salty side but goes well with alcohol. I would just order this basic on that mashed potatoes. Steak Sandwich: overcooked steak although it comes with a mountain of fries which kind of makes up for steak, still will skip this next time. Bread Pudding: ok, a bit tippy at the end to remember this... Our server Andrew was phenomenal, when we arrive there it's only few customers but when we leave it was already 90% full, and he was still the same attentive & friendly self so thank you Andrew! It is an Irish pub looking pub with lot of TV but it was clean, no sticky table or un-sanitize bathroom, their bathroom are definitely cleaner then most of the other establishment on Castro Street. A group of Germans and Brazilian decided to stop by today to see the Brazil versus Chile game. This place has a TV facing outside so you can watch programs under the sun. Only problem was that they were playing music and we wanted to hear the game. So we spent half a game inside and half outside. But the server was super courteous. Everyone enjoyed their food and beers.I was looking for a dark lager or a German bock style but had to settle for the Kona. I ordered the shepherd's pie and it did not disappoint. This is a great location to see games and the vibe is not pretentious. There's just something about the Irish hospitality makes one feel welcome! read more

A friend of mine was here last week and they told me about patio seating being open at this place. Since I hadn't been out and about for almost five months, I was interested in getting drinks in a socially distanced setting. My buddies and I were able to get a table real quick. There's a bar code on each table which when scanned shows the menu. We ordered a Mai Tai, a couple Irish Mules, a hummus plate and some fries for the table. The wait staff were all wearing masks and the silverware were wrapped with paper napkins. The tables are spaced apart and everyone was maintaining distance as best as they could. The drinks were alright, the fries had a nice crunch and the hummus plate had a nice assortment of sides. The pickled onions and hummus were standouts. Overall i'd say it was nice to hangout here and feel normal again. 8/10 would go back again! read more
Named after a famous park in Co Park Dublin Ireland where people would go to gather and get away,it really does keep up with that history. I have been coming in here for years off and on since 1999. Nestled right in the lovely S Peninsula town of Mt View, on the famous Castro Street, this Irish pub is a great place for a simple, yet delicious lunch or dinner. This is the home to where years ago I went with my lovely cousin and had my first Snake bite drink, a mix of Guinness and Cider topped with lemon. It was made to perfection Today we stopped in, and they have wonderful outside dining with your Total Covid19 spec's all in place. I had the Spicy Castro Burger which was made to perfection. So its a half pound of Angus Beef topped with chorizo and pepper jack cheeses, sauteed onions, some chiles and served with Steak Fries. I am so dam picky about food, but it was great. My friend ordered the same which he loved, his wife ordered the Stephens Burger, with a side of vegetables, as she was said it was great! This place is also known for its awesome Fish N Chips that is a must, I have had it years back, and it was awesome. They also do a Smoked Salmon on Irish Soda Bread which is amazing! So many great plates. If you are a beer drinker they have over 35 beers on Tap and the Best of the Best. Love this place. Again our staff was wonderful! Many thanks to Kate for being that great hostess to us, and all the other wonderful staff that were there to make our experience at St Stephen Green awesome. You need to head there during the week or take advantage of their weekend dining. You are going to love this place. I always felt I was guided here by a friendly leprechaun. read more
We enjoyed a nice early meal here. It was quiet and the service was great. I ordered the chicken fettuccine in Vodka tomato cream sauce. My husband had sausages with mashed potatoes. We shared a beet salad with a citrus sauce. The salad was made more interesting with the addition of pistachio nuts and tangerine segments. It came with feta cheese, which I do not care for, but since it was thrown on top, it was easy for me to pass it on to my husband's plate. They used both red and yellow beets in the salad. My husband enjoyed his sausage, which came with a mustard gravy & the mashed potatoes, which included leeks and onions. I liked my pasta as well. I was surprised that the vodka sauce had a bit of a kick; I don't like spicy things, but this was tolerable for me. read more

Happy St. Patrick's Day! It's the time of year when everyone is Irish even if you are mostly a Japanese American family! We ordered many things from St. Stpehen's Green such as the required Corned Beef and cabbage which was ok. Very little cabbage was given. Meat Pie was ok. Everything was just ok. Nothing special but still fun to have on the weekend before St. Patrick's Day. read more

Stopped by for an Irish car bomb, and ended up buying a Guinness as well. Bartender was attentive and helpful! Huge selection of liquor. Lots of TVs with plenty of sports, would definitely come back for a bite and a beer! read more

Your typical neighborhood Irish bar. Down to earth, friendly bartenders, loud atmosphere, TV's everywhere to watch games. Decent beer options, decent cocktails, didn't order any food so can't tell you how that is. Had to take away 2 stars for our sad irish car bombs we ordered. The pint of Guinness wasn't even half filled. It was so laughable I had to take a picture and write a yelp review. Tip: There's an english guy around the bar with long hair that looks to be a regular here. Works at Facebook or something doing AI stuff. Really cool guy, even bought us a round of beers. This was my first indoor dining experience since the pandemic began. Though I'm completely vaccinated I'm still cautious about my surroundings. We were a party of 6 and had our own private area across from the bar, so I felt very safe. Our waitress was masked and very friendly. Our food was delish. Hubby had a beet salad and fries. I had the smoked salmon(generous portion)on Irish brown bread. Friends had the salmon salad, AEB sandwich and the Monte Cristo. Thought the food came out a bit slow considering we were the first customers in the morning. But the food was worth the wait. read more

I went during winter when it was cold and they had an amazing selection of flavored hottie toddys, spiced/alcoholic ciders, and holiday drinks. Man talk about all the flavors of Thanksgiving and Christmas + an outside heater and a dark cold evening. The flavors, weather, and heaters set the mood. I did order chicken strips and they were nothing to exciting like kiddie frozen ones but I will say they have some delicious ranch and honey mustard. Our waitress was nice, attentive, and we chatted about the flavors of the holiday drinks since we both had a thing for them. I had a good experience here. Came randomly on a quiet Friday night months ago for drinks and left happy. Thanks for the good service and the toasty heaters! I probably wouldn't have drank there or stayed without the heaters. read more
We can finally be inside!!! Enjoyed the ambience and beverages. Very friendly wait staff. They checked on us regularly. Everyone wearing masks. It was a cold, rainy Sunday and we we were able to get toasty inside. Fun place! Parking lot in the back with plenty of room. read more
