This filling had lots of chunks of chicken, and the vegetables and gravy were a flavor bomb. This was the best that I've had in a long time. We went on a Saturday evening and we had to wait around 20 minutes for a table, so if you are planning to go on a busy time, definitely try to get a reservation ahead of time. Our waitress was outstanding, helpful, and kept our drinks refilled constantly. The restaurant is small(ish), but has indoor dining, a four seasons type of room, and outdoor seating. We'll be back!

We were seated quickly and our waitress, Karen, stopped by for drink orders and asked if we had dined there before, that was an affirmative. Karen was no nonsense and efficient, telling us about the special and answering questions about the pot pie. We happened to be seated next to a table from someone I knew, so we didn't have to pretend not to stare at the food they ordered, lol. We just talked about all that we ordered. Their Piccadilly fish looked amazing as did the rib special. I ordered the chicken pot pie, I had been thinking about it, and craving carbs to boot and it didn't disappoint. Karen informed me that it had lima beans and corn, so I wasn't shocked by that. Came in a bowl draped with puff pastry. Pastry was flaky and lightly browned, the base was creamy with lots of chicken chunks, carrots, corn, and lima beans. I haven't had lima beans before and I liked them. I had ordered the soup of the day, Tuscan white bean that sounded great, but I thought it was just ok. Husband ordered the fried chicken with slaw and mashed potatoes. The chicken was HOT! I enjoyed the leg piece I snagged off his plate, the breading is thin and adhered well to the chicken, the slaw was creamy, I didn't try the potatoes. Great home-style food, nice atmosphere, efficient service. Try the pot pie!

I went to Chez Ali's at the Foundry since I was in the mood for jerk chicken, and it tasted okay,…read morebut like a lot of reviewers on this site found that quantity was the problem and not so much the quality of the jerk chicken. The seasoning was fine on the jerk chicken although I've had juicer and tastier jerk chicken elsewhere. But I had a problem when I discovered they only gave me one little chicken leg, (that was slightly dried out) along with three pieces of chicken back meat which was like three small pieces, almost morsels. However, the two sides that came with the jerk chicken that were rice & beans along with boiled cabbage tasted good and plentiful so I didn't leave hungry but I'd still say the amount of chicken left me wanting more. I won't likely be going back to this place especially with so many quality dining choices at the foundry. The foundry building is very cool and my server at the counter was okay as well. But although the food tasted decent I wasn't floored by anything about this restaurateur at the foundry STL.

The workers were also friendly and helpful. It was my first time in St. Louis and at the Foundry, and it was my only ordered meal in the city (short trip). So glad it was this satisfying. My only "complaint" is that small bones hide a bit in the food, but just be careful while eating and you're fine.

I also hadn't realized it was a buffet style restaurant (when I bought a certificate for the place on restaurant.com, they had a whole menu to order from. Imagine my surprise when we got there to this lunch lady cafeteria looking place. They need to update their info on restaurant.com so people will know what to expect. The food was COLD, had no flavor, what they called dressing was stove top stuffing, the macaroni was dry as hell with burned cheese on top. There was a tray that had what looked like tiny cubes of potato floating in some greenish water. The lady told me it was steamed broccoli. No ma'am, that's the part of the broccoli we usually throw away, where's the part that looks like a tree? Honest to goodness, that was THE worst spaghetti I've ever eaten. Not only did it taste TERRIBLE, it had the mouth feel of applesauce, super mushy. You could tell it was not only really cheap pasta, but they obviously boiled it for an hour and 45 minutes. The jiffy'ish corn muffin was so dry it just crumbled. And the sweet potato...notice I didn't say candied...was just a chunk of boiled sweet potato, no seasoning, no syrupy sauce, no butter. Our plates were still almost just as full when we left as they were when they served it to us. There was a sign stating only one dessert per customer. The guy that served us our food at the buffet kept hovering around us until my friend said she couldn't take it anymore. So we asked if we could just have our dessert to go, they told us there would be an upcharge for takeout. I will admit, the fried fish was EXACTLY the way I like it, not still soft and/or wet, but not cooked to death, a nice light hard fry. And the weird murky colored tea was flavorful, again, a real southern soul food cook would NEVER serve powdered tea mix, but it was pleasant tasting. But $5 for a glass of tea? The fact that the place was totally empty on a Friday night at 7pm should have alerted us that folks ain't busting down doors to eat here. The decor was pretty nice, the people were very sweet, but that cooking...smh. I've never gone to dinner with a friend and been in and out of a restaurant so fast. I think we spent a total of 20 minutes there. My friend paid, but later told me the bill was $60. That was $52 more than what it was worth.
