I was looking for some veggie options and found plenty of choices - don't forget to ask which might have meat pieces in them if you're actually vegetarian. I went Twice on the weekend ,food was good,BUT,a particular light skinned older lady with a lot of make up was agitated and used a negative tone over a small error of misunderstanding and communication,I hope she get it together,I hate knocking black businesses,but for some reason we don't have good customer service!I wanna say more but I will leave it at that! First time. Food wasn't too bad. I was really hyped for the Turkey Leg and it was just not seasoned at all and a little tough. I like my Turkey legs to fall off the bone. I was pleasantly surprised by the food served at this restaurant. I usually go to another soul food spot in St. Louis but they were closed and I was in the mood for soul food so I went to Jaden's. The good was EXCELLENT and I will be back. The service was quick and efficient, they had the assembly line rolling and they got me in and got. Fantastic food and really nice people. The variety of choices at this "cafeteria style" diner was impressive. I wanted to try some of it all because it all looked so delicious. However, I ended up with perfectly cooked braised chicken, creamy Mac and Cheese, green beans and a better than average piece of cornbread. I ordered pork steak and gravy with cornbread dressing and sweet potatoes... Omg Delicious and the Portions are the largest I've ever seen... My dad had the Short Ribs and Mac and cheese and cabbage with cornbread... I had the smothered pork steak w/gravy, mac & cheese, and dressing. The pork steak was HUGE!! It was very tender. The gravy was ok. Oh I also had one chicken wing, it was absolutely delicious. The mac & cheese was not good. It had lots of cheese but it didnt taste like real cheese, more like powdered or from kraft deluxe. The dressing wasn't any better. It tasted like stove top with too much of the chicken flavor. The peach cobbler was crazy good. I probably won't go back, but try for yourself as all our taste buds are different as you can gather from the other reviews. read more

Okay I'll dock one point for the greens but overall this place wad great! I had the smothered chicken, pinto beans, and greens with cornbread. The chicken was sooooooo freaking good and seasoned so well. The pinto beans too. The greens... ahhh not so much. I can't tell what it was but no hot sauce or seasons at my house would do it for me. I will definitely be giving them another try to redeem themselves on the greens. The price was reasonable too. 10.95 plus tax.! Mac & Cheese, Pinto Beans, chicken wings, liver & onion, mashed potatoes, ox tails (yes oxtails) pork chops, black eyed peas and a huge slice of cornbread, sweet tea and lemonade. Hungry yet? Ja Den's is what Sweetie Pies is supposed to be. It's a down to earth, linoleum table cloth, buffet style soul food place. It's cheaper than Sweetie Pies too. I had the fried buffalo fish which was fresh out of the frier. With three soul food sides and a piece of corn bread, I brought a whole meal home with me. read more

Not necessarily moved by "Soul Food" restaurants, since we grew up eating it every time Grandmother cooked! Heard about another soul food establishment, and asked, who was the next best? The Restaurant "JaDen's" was suggested. Needless to say, tried JaDen's first. Never made it to the so called #1 This place is exactly how it is suppose to be done. Quite good soul food. I stuck with sides (being a vegetarian), but others raved about the ham & chicken. The sides I had were 'well done' and on the heavy side. It is buffet-style, pay per item at checkout. Tables are set up in long rows, so be prepared to eat with the crowd.
