You've got creatives, people working, people connecting--it's cozy but still feels open. It gives community, not just coffee shop. The barista was so kind and helped me and my sister-in-law through the menu, but we're matcha girls through and through, so we went with our old faithful. And baby... it did not disappoint. I decided to stop by St. Noir while visiting New Orleans after seeing some of their drinks online. The Wedding Cake Latte and Cookie Butter Chai both caught my attention, so I figured I'd give the place a try. The cafe itself is cute. It has a cozy coffee shop vibe and seems like the kind of place where you could grab a drink, sit down, and relax for a while. When I visited on a Saturday evening, it was pretty quiet. There was one girl working on a laptop, a group of friends who looked like they were catching up, and a couple waiting on drinks they had already ordered. Other than that, it was basically empty. It also appeared that there was only one employee working, so it was a good thing there wasn't a long line or anything. Customer service is a huge part of my experience when I visit a business. A place can have amazing drinks and a great atmosphere, but if the customer service is poor, it affects the entire experience for me. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted or acknowledged at all. Not a "welcome in," not a "hey, I'll be with you in a minute," nothing. I stood at the register looking over the menu while the employee finished making drinks for the couple who was waiting. Once she came over, I smiled and said, "Hey, how are you?" but didn't receive that same energy in return. There was no smile, no friendly greeting, and the interaction immediately felt very dry. Since it was my first visit, I asked what she would recommend for someone who likes sweeter drinks. She responded, "Everything here is sweet," but even that was said in a tone that felt annoyed and dismissive and didn't really help me narrow anything down. I was trying to decide between the Wedding Cake Latte and the Cookie Butter Chai. I then asked whether the Wedding Cake Latte actually tasted like cake. The reason I asked is because I've had plenty of experiences at coffee shops where a drink sounds amazing on the menu, but when you actually get it, it mostly tastes like coffee with only a tiny hint of the advertised flavor. A lot of times I end up having to add extra syrup because the flavor is so subtle. When I asked if it really tasted like cake, she responded, "Uh, yeah." In a tone that came across like a "duh" response. From the lack of greeting to the tone of responses, to the overall energy of the interaction, it all felt cold, dismissive, and like I was bothering her just by being there. I'm not from there and it was my first visit, so I was simply trying to make a decision, but I left feeling very unwelcome. I honestly considered leaving and saying don't worry about it because the interaction was that off-putting, especially since it wasn't busy at all. I decided to order anyways because I had already been anticipating trying it on this trip and had already drove all the way there. I ended up order the Cookie Butter Chai and it was really good. The flavor came through well. I just wish it was a bigger size. One small thing I noticed was that the drink came with whipped cream, but I wasn't asked whether I wanted it. It wasn't a huge issue because I don't dislike whipped cream, but I typically decline it when given the option. Since I didn't know it came with it and wasn't asked, I didn't really get the opportunity to choose. Overall, the atmosphere is cute, and the drink itself was good. However, I was genuinely surprised by the customer service because I had seen reviews describing the staff as friendly and welcoming, and my experience was the complete opposite. Saint Noir Café is definitely worth the visit, even though it's a little further out from the main areas in New Orleans. The entire vibe of this place is what makes it stand out. Inside is super cute, casual, and chill -- with workspaces, couches, art, merchandise, and plenty of spots to just relax or hang out for a while. You can tell why it's gone viral. The coffee was really good. My husband and I shared a simple vanilla latte since we weren't sure what to order for our first visit, and it was solid. They also have mimosas and other alcoholic drinks, which adds to the fun atmosphere. The staff wasn't the friendliest during our visit, but honestly the overall experience and ambiance still made it enjoyable. I ended up getting one of their shirts too -- I think it was around $35 -- and the merch was actually really cute. Black owned coffee shop in NOLA. So while in Nola we wanted to get coffee and remembered this place. They have a variety of coffee, teas, and pastries to choose from. I got the vanilla matcha and it was pretty good. It was my first time having it and it was different but still good. My friend got a lavender lemonade and she said that was really good. Let's get this small gripe out of the way. I'm not a fan of when restaurants overload drinks with ice--it always feels like you're getting less for what you paid. I've learned I need to start asking for light ice or no ice upfront. That said, the Ms. Rose drink itself was a 10/10. I tried it during a Yelp Elite event and was genuinely impressed--especially since I'm not usually a coffee drinker like that. It's the right amount of sweetness, smooth and toasty. Ubered here from Canal St three mornings in a row because i was that pleased with the drinks and atmosphere. The last morning (a Saturday) there was a children's book author there selling her books and signing. I noticed 'regulars' here too who were friendly, made it feel like a true neighborhood spot. I enjoyed a matcha with lavender syrup, a bit on the sweeter than i'd normally take it but not overly so. The St Roch Fog and the Oak et Pear tea lattes were perfect though. St Noir has been at the top of my list to try lately and I was able to attend a recent Silent Book Club here. It's the perfect spot to bring a book (great lighting, plus they have stands at several of the tables). So sparkling and beautiful inside, but I can see myself sitting at one of the sidewalk tables on a nice day as well. My drink of choice that evening was their irresistible beautiful blue magic matcha, which comes iced. It's sweet (not overly so) and creamy and delicious, especially when you get it with oat milk. I'm seeing from reviews that they have a strawberry matcha drink so I'll be back soon for that. Props for a vegan baked good option (banana bread). They have wine, mimosas and espresso martinis too, so as day turns into evening, they got you. Note that it closes on the early side, 8pm most nights, 4pm on Sundays. It makes me wonder, though, will it live up to its name in the future? Regardless, I'm a big fan of St Noir and appreciate its presence in my neighborhood. read more

I was so torn on what to try because I've heard good things about their matcha and the menu looks delicious. But given my previous experiences with matcha, i opted out. I went with the seasonal latte (spiced caramel apple) and it was soooo good! The place was pretty busy, but the single barista did her thing! She was quick and courteous. This is a community cafe that you can come listen to music to free your mind or study for a big test coming up. They offer some unique lattes, teas, and a few treats to eat. They also offer alcoholic beverages such as match margaritas and espresso martinis. Some nights they host entertainment such as poetry and author meets. They have nice staff and small but cozy areas to seat inside and out. There is free street parking along the roads but be cautious of the streets because they could use a little touch up. The tables on the back wall all have computer stands on them to place your laptop or device and adjust height, which I thought was super cool. I ordered an iced matcha latte sub oak milk with sugar free vanilla. Price was $8.47 plus I added a dollar tip. This coffee shop is such a vibe! There was only one person working when I walked in, but he was really patient and nice when he rang me up. The inside is very aesthetic and had a chill atmosphere. Because of Yelp Elite, I was able to try sample flights of 3 of their drinks: Espresso Martini, Ms. Rose, & Magic Blue. They were all so good! You can definitely taste the authentic matcha with the Magic Blue. The Ms. Rose has a subtle floral hint, but it blended well with the coffee. You can never go wrong with an Espresso Martini. It wasn't overpowering, but it didn't lack flavor at the same time. The flavor was right in between just the way I like it. My personal favorite would be the Ms. Rose, but all of them were good. There's only street parking available, so just be mindful of that. Overall, I would recommend trying out St. Noir Cafe if you're in the NOLA area. I'd definitely come back again. I finally got my chance to visit St. Noir and on Juneteenth! I'm always happy to support a black and woman owned business but it was a special day to do so. I was on a morning bike ride and this was my first stop. I had an iced chai with oat milk and an apple danish. Both were just the fuel I needed to keep riding and exploring the city. The atmosphere was very chic and relaxing even though the space itself was very busy with patrons at nearly all of the tables and in line ordering.
